Every action has its own consequence…

Cora Whitley has learned the hard way that there are some choices you can’t escape, you merely survive. And she is, surviving that is. She’s living, breathing, eating, sleeping, working, all of the things you do when all you’re trying to do is get from one day to the next without truly remembering who you were.

Jake Ferrari recognizes Cora the minute he sees her. Maybe it’s because somehow he knows she’s as broken as he is, or maybe it’s because when he looks at her he sees that the life he thought was over when his elbow blew out and his pitching career came to a halt can now be something different. Something better with her.

But nothing comes for free, not even love. Follow Cora and Jake as they piece together their lives and deal with the consequences of falling in love with the one person they know they can’t have.

I am the youngest of three daughters and I think this is the reason I enjoy writing about love so much.

I come from a family of high school sweethearts, save myself (thank God), and I have watched how finding love, the real kind, can make a person stronger. My parents have inspired me every day because they found each other at eighteen, got married at nineteen, and never looked back. Now, 35 years later they are still going strong and it makes me realize that love really does aide us in all things.

I write young and new adult books because I think it's the time period in our lives that is the most difficult and I enjoy love stories because we all need hope. Reading about love gives me hope, so I hope my writings about love do the same for any reader who happens to glance at the pages.

I have a daughter, a Great Dane, and a beautiful husband. I love books, coffee, and my family...and shoes. Just saying.

*I kindly received an ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review*

I didn't finish the book and I don't think I have the strength to finish it either. Like I mentioned in previous review before this, I guess the reason of my poor ratings partly lies in the fact that I took so long to finish this thanks to hefty amount of work I have.

The story was ok but it seemed unoriginal. It had the same old boring story-line as of many other New-adult books. The characters weren't strong enough to draw me in and the story fell slat after like the very first few chapters. I didn't enjoy this one as much as I would. Also FOR ME the cover was misleading. I thought it'll be this really nice calm story but nope it's one of you regular college romance novel.

******* 4.5 STARS *******

This novel deserves 4.5 stars for the author’s commendable writing style and wonderfully-woven plot that will make every reader cry, smile, and want to fall in love.

A boy with a shattered dream…
A girl who found herself lost in her desperate search for love…

One wants an escape.
One is done escaping.

Two broken souls destined to find and heal each other.

Jake and Cora.

Two hearts in one great love story.

“A year ago I was a wreck, a shattered mass of bad choices and even worse outcomes, and when I stopped being that person, when I learned how to make better decisions and actually think about what my choices would do to me and others, I promised myself I would never lose myself to my need for intimacy and connection again.” -Cora

“The only thought worse than never having Cora is having half of her.” -Jake

This book murdered me, but it also resurrected me.
Sorry for the drama queen in me, but this was really how I felt upon finishing this book, and don’t get me wrong because it is actually a compliment.

The story is just so good and engaging and gripping that I couldn’t help but be so involved. I sympathized with the heroine (Cora), and there were some points in my reading that I actually wanted to hug her, or shake her, and sometimes do both at the same time. My heart broke for her and Jake countless times and those broken pieces were also restored as soon as the two found their healing. I became whole as Jake became whole again. I found myself as Cora found herself. My heart flipped and danced as Cora and Jake found their happy ending.

I personally believe that the true measure of good writing is the ability of the author to capture “real” human emotions, put them into words and make the readers feel the “realness”. The fact that the reader feels every pain and every joy the characters in the narrative feel, shows that the author effectively accomplished this. This novel will do that to you. It will take you to an emotional journey…and it won’t disappoint.

The reason why I only gave it 4.5 stars instead of 5?

Here’s why:

I do not “condone” self-destruction when someone is in pain and hurting (yes, even in fictional characters). I don’t get why people ruin themselves out of rebellion. If people see you unworthy of love, the last thing you would want to do is to prove them right. In the story, Cora made a lot of bad decisions in the past and ruined herself as a way to escape pain and emptiness. She was admittedly weak in that point of her life. Anyhow, I like the fact that she helped herself heal and that she gradually grew stronger as a person. That transition from being weak to strong is highlighted in the novel.

Another thing that made me love this story is Jake’s character. He’s just the perfect book boyfriend. He’s sweet, sincere, funny, patient, understanding and kind. And seriously, who wouldn’t love a boy quoting poems, who plays baseball too? A geek and jock rolled in one.

When I first decided to read this book, I thought it would just be another mediocre read. Honestly, I also don’t like reading books with broken heroines/hero in it, because of all the drama and issues. This one is not overly dramatic. I actually love how natural and smooth the storytelling is. It is a wonderful story that explores numerous themes: family, friendship, self-worth, dreams, pain, healing, acceptance and love. With this book, you will cry, you will hurt, you will fall in love, and above all, you will learn life lessons. Lots of lines here left me in awe.

“Sometimes you can see the end before it even starts, and still, what we get in those brief moments together is enough to make the ending worth it.”

This novel is highly recommended not only for New Adult lovers, but for all the readers who love emotional, complex love stories, with sweet happy ever afters.

4.5 tangled in love stars The Light of Day took me on an incredible journey of heartache, healing, but most of all about love. It was about the lives of two people who were capable of being their own worst enemy. Jake and Cora met at the very point in their lives where they were each at a crossroads, and their goals of becoming whole were right within their grasps. It was painfully obvious how they each were treading so lightly as they worked through their choices. While headed in the right direction, any little thing could send either of them back to their demons. The focus was healing, but suddenly they were both caught off guard by how drawn to each other they were. There was some crazy-insane-huge-sparks-flying-chemistry and immediate emotional connection too. However, moving ahead cautiously was key, and my friends, this story gave me big time damaged goods characters with a whole lot of angst and oh my oh my, you know I was in heart clenching heaven.

The whole “fixing themselves yet healing each other” made for blurred lines of what was the best choice, but then throw in an epic love and the lines were even more blurry. The process tore my heart out. It was done brilliantly. I knew Jake and Cora each needed to do some of it alone, but yet being without the other was gut wrenching. HOLD ME. Ms. Kehoe’s words were magic and I swear I lived Cora and Jake’s ups and downs right along side of them.

But enough about sad stuff. Let’s talk about the swoony Jake Ferarri. He was divine. I can almost feel my cheeks flush and heart flutter as I think about him. He was sexy, strong, kind, and oh my god deep. But my favorite thing about him was just how impulsive and honest Jake could be. It worked. This was insta-attraction but not insta-love. Jake went with his gut feeling initially and my heart was pitter patter all over the place. I loved how he was suddenly alive and inspired and it was all because of that spark, that draw that he felt to Cora with his whole being, mind, body, and heart. Their chemistry was amazing, and so very real. Gah, just thinking about it gives me goose bumps.

But I didn’t just love Jake. I loved Cora Whitley too. I love how damaged each MC is. Cora had secrets yet she owned her flaws and admitted she was still tempted to give in sometimes. So often character flaws and weaknesses make for annoying characters but here they made them whole real multi faceted people that I needed to get to know better. And I sensed too that they could save and inspire the other.

The pages turned effortlessly and this book was that gem I have been searching for. At one point my throat constricted and I am telling you, I felt the devastation. I would not be as brave or selfless as Cora and Jake. They really were stronger than they gave themselves credit for. I was rooting for them so much it’s not even funny. Yes, I was so vested!

The ending….oh the ending. It was over just like *that*. Yes, we got an epilogue, but I really, really, realllllllly needed more. I needed to roll around and bask in the glory of that happy ending we had to work so hard to get to. I felt like I got a little ripped off. What can I say? I want to live, breath, and have that happy ending coming out of my pores. I’m a greedy reader!

Rec it? A million times yes. My bruised heart, it was torn apart but the healing process was so worth it. This was my first Kristen Kehoe book, and now I can’t wait to read more of her words, I’m a huge fan.

Happy reading!

After reading Life, Interrupted, I knew I would pretty much read any book Kristen wrote. That book hit me hard - and only an extremely talented author could purge so much emotion out of me.

When I was asked to review The Light of Day, I jumped on it. This book is on the more "mature" side, being a New Adult, and I couldn't wait to see how she would bring Cora and Jake's story to life.

I am sucker broken characters. Their journey to discover their self-worth is always beautiful and awe-inspiring. It takes a lot to step up when life gets you down, but imagine feeling completely broken - yet learning how to find your feet, your self (and love) and move on?

These are two of the most broken characters I have read about in a long time. Although their self-destructive pasts took route to different circumstances, they both want and need the same thing. To love. To feel wanted. To belong.

To Live again.

Cora has never felt love from her mother, and coming second with her father, she acted out for ANY kind of attention just to get her mother to SEE her. Her self-destructive path took a serious turn for the worst and she was forced to open her eyes and see what she was really doing. After a year in rehab; she is ready to move on, find herself and stand (alone) on her own two feet. Then she meets Jake.

Jake is in a recovery mode when he meets Cora. After an injury that could possibly kill his baseball career, he numbs his pain with alcohol and women. But something in Cora calls to him and he does whatever he can to enter her life.

I loved these two together. The relationship starts off as friends and slowly develops into more. They push each other just enough and break down walls without destroying each other. Jake knows that Cora has a past, but doesn't know just how deep her destruction and pain runs; and Cora's fear that she would self-destruct if she let Jake all the way in. Both tell themselves that their "arrangement" is temporary; fearing that they will hold each other back if they surrender completely. It was heartbreaking to watch, because you just know that it isn't the case.

My only peeve is that I felt the pacing was rather slow at times - and some parts felt redundant. Yet at the same time, this isn't a plot driven book at all. It's solely character driven, so while I did feel parts were slow, it was a necessary "evil". HA.

Overall -

I LOVED The Light of Day. I could go on and on all day about this book. Kristen's writing always brings so much emotion out of me, it boggles my mind. It flows naturally from the page and it's just... beautiful. If you haven't given her books a chance, remedy that ASAP.

In ‘The Light of Day’ we meet Cora and Jake. Both have been struggling with their past. When Cora and Jake meet everything changes. They both have been on a self-destructive path and now they don’t know how to get away from it. Although their lives are very different they both are desperate for the same thing: to feel, love and to belong.

From the moment I started reading ‘The Light of Day’ is was hooked to Kirsten Kehoe’s writing style. Her writing is fun, insightful, honest and totally addicting. This book is written from both Cora and Jake’s point of view and I loved that. This book is filled with raw emotion and through reading both Cora and Jake’s sight of the story it made me feel every bit of emotion even more.
Cora and Jake are both characters who need a little saving, but what they didn’t expect was that they could save each other. The relationship between Cora and Jake is so fun, sweet and at times so emotional to read. I loved how they made each other better from the moment they met, even though they didn’t realize it at the time.

The character I liked the most in this book was Jake. Not only is he a handsome, sweet guy, but he is also a reader and studies English literature. (Who wouldn’t love a guy like that?) And above all I loved how he treated Cora and how he was able to share his feelings with her. I loved how Jake was able to ‘feel’ what Cora needed from him and the way he was so ‘tuned’ into whatever was going on with her.

I just couldn’t stop reading this book and I really loved everything about it. I loved how the story developed and how the relationship between Cora and Jake slowly became more and more intense. And I also think the cover is really beautiful.

This book definitely gets my recommendation and I can’t wait to read more books by Kristen Kehoe.

The Light of Day is a beautiful story of two completely broken people who find a way to accept one another and help in the healing process. I got sucked in to the character driven story and just hated to let them go when I hit the final page. I laughed with Cora and Jake and I cried with them. It takes a special kind of story to tug at my heart and make me feel so much with the characters and this is just such a story.

I rooted for the characters to get together throughout the story and cheered when they finally did. Once I got into the heart of the story, I couldn’t put the book down. Jake and Cora find solace in each other during a time when both are at a crossroads. Cora is one year sober fighting to stay that way, while Jake is fighting to get his pitching arm back after a serious surgery. Neither know what tomorrow will hold, but both are willing to find out together.
When they were nearing the inevitable end of their time together my heart broke for them and the unspoken words they both feared saying. It was so gut-wrenching to witness their last night together. Kristen Kehoe really knows how to pull the emotions from the reader. To find out how the story ends and go on the heart wrenching ride with Jake and Cora, you will have to read the book.
I give this book 5 roses and highly recommend it if you are looking for a great character driven story.

A surprisingly great read, Kristen Kehoe is a new author to me, so i wasn't too sure what to expect. I've ended up so happy with this read, the writing was great and each word held my attention and I found myself wanting more. I got lost in the characters stories feeling all each of their emotions. It's a beautiful story about overcoming what life hand outs, finding yourself and love. One of my favorite aspects of the story is that both Cora and Jake build a great friendship before they both give into their wants. From the moment they meet they are attracted to one another. I loved the friendship that they built with each other, when they finally gave in to their feelings it was so natural it didn't feel forced at all. In the end I loved this book I enjoyed every single page, and I think you will too.

I liked this book a lot even if it broke my heart seeing Jake and Cora, the main characters, drowning under the pressure of their sorrows.Fortunately during their journey they learn to live in the present without fearing tomorrow.
Kristen Kehoe is a new to me author and I'm glad I found her because her writing style is really good and their characters feel so real you become involved in their lives as they are your friends.

Please check out all of my reviews at http://ultraviolentlit.blogspot.ca!

The Light of Day is a New Adult novel, and within that increasingly popular genre, I would give it four stars. It is not the kind of book I usually review, so I won’t rate it by my usual scale (in which case, it would probably be more like three stars). If you enjoy the genre, you could do a lot worse than this novel, which is part of the “Beyond the Horizon” series – although I only read this one, and it stands alone.

That being said, I did feel that this novel contained realistic characters responding to each other in fairly real ways. This is what NA Lit should be like – real and raw, not sanitized for younger readers. While the premise of the novel is a little shaky – boy and girl meet at wedding with heavy emotional baggage and decide that the only way forward is to move to Portland together? – it does explore some serious issues in a very realistic way. Themes include the struggle with addiction and the pain of dealing with a family member’s dementia, and these themes are explored thoughtfully – not just as a tool to create more drama and angst between romantic partners.

Well, there is some angst – but it doesn’t stem from a place of disrespect or abuse of themselves or each other. The main characters are real people who actually care about each other, with meaningful dialogue and scenes spent together to prove it – they don’t just fall obsessively in love overnight. There is a strong and steady build up to their relationship (starting with an even stronger friendship) that makes their love believable.

Cora has been through a lot, but she is not encouraged to be weak – she works hard to make herself stronger before relying on anyone else. Jake is troubled too, but not in a way that is self-destructive just to create melodrama for his character. The dialogue between the two is well-written, with a great mix of witty banter and emotional moments to make it feel real. There were flaws in the plot, especially at the start, but the story hits its stride once Jake and Cora begin to interact authentically. Ultimately, it is a character-driven novel in which the plot is secondary to the development of Cora and Jake, who could easily act as role models for the NA Lit of the future.

My Rating: 3 out of 5 stars.

Disclaimers: I received a copy of this novel from the publisher in exchange for my honest opinion. I was not obligated to write a good review nor did I receive any compensation for writing this review.

Why did I decide to turn the pages? Look at the cover. That's why. I loved it. Then I read the synopsis and thought this is something I think I'll like.

My Overall Thoughts/Impressions: The first in the series was 99 cents on Amazon, so I decided to read that one first. I really loved the first one, so I was excited to read the second one.

The two novels are very distinct and different. The writing of The Light of Day seemed much more for an adult audience, whereas Beyond the Horizon seemed more for young adult readers. The Light of Day also had a much sadder tone and message.

It dealt with some heavy issues, which honestly, I thought the author could have delved into more.

However, having said that, this novel is an emotional, intriguing read. It was very different from what I expected...heavier even, and yet heavy in unexpected ways.

I thought the romance was well developed, but there was something off about the couple for me.

Anyway, if you're looking for a book that tackles serious issues without diving too deeply into them, this book deals with depression, family issues, diseases, addictions, and many other issues.

A deeper novel than you'll find in many other New Adult novels.

The Characters: Liked Jake. Had a hard time connecting with Cora. However, having said that, the characters were intriguing.

Major Strengths: Surprisingly deep.

Major Weaknesses: Moved slowly at times.

So why 3 stars? I enjoyed it, but it didn't quite hit 4 stars for me.

Can I read the series out of order? It alludes to events from the first novel and characters from it are mentioned in significant ways; however, it can be read as a stand-alone.

Warnings/Side-notes: I honestly don't remember. I know it was for a more mature audience. 18 plus. But I can' remember if it was more on the young adult side or more on the adult side.

The Wrap-up: An intriguing, albeit unexpectedly deep read that I enjoyed. I'll be interested in what the author comes up with next.

Love,

"The trouble with being a hero is that there's always someone who needs to be saved and, eventually, you just get sucked dry until you can't fight anymore and you fail."

They meet in a wedding celebration of a friend in common, something arises between them, but Cora is not willing to lower her barriers with anybody, and Jake is not willing to leave without knowing more about her, both know that inside the other there's something dark, and pain. So when Jake suggest Cora to be her new roommate since her old roommate is getting married, Cora doubts at first but then she decides to give Jake one chance.

After a time of living in the same house, they learn to trust each other, and help each other to heal old wounds but not all is happiness, because when it's seems that they have what they've been searching all their lives, Jake has completely his time in rehab and he had to go back to play games, and Cora has to start to care for her mother, but this temporary separation serves them to end to close their old wounds and to realize that they need each other, that they need the support of the other and that not every thing in life has to be done alone

Teaser:
The mind is a funny thing, shaped, it seems, not only by what it experiences and remembers, but by our desires, fears, needs, and perceptions of everything around us. Memories take on different hues as time progresses, manipulated further by what we observe throughout our lives, who we meet, and how we view ourselves.
Although I’ve always thought of myself as a confident and strong woman, which I showed through unwavering opinions and a fuck you attitude, counseling taught me that hindsight is much clearer, and in actuality, what I saw as confidence was an innate fear that no one would ever love me, therefore, I refused to let anyone try. (Therapy can be a real bitch when it works.)

He nods. “I get that, just as I get how scary this is for you. But you need to know one thing.”

I tense and hate it. Working to relax, I keep my expression calm. “What?”

“I’ve slept with other women—some more than once, some once, some I remember, some I don’t. I’ve had one serious relationship that I thought might be forever, and then I lost everything and I didn’t think forever mattered anymore.” Now he rests his weight on his right elbow and brings his left hand up to cup my cheek. “Blue, one glance at you all those months ago showed me that I might not be able to see forever, but I definitely want to see tomorrow if you’re there.”

The Light of Day by Kristen Kehoe is a stand-alone, new adult, romance novel. While the story is complete in and of itself, it directly ties in to a previous book of the author's, Beyond the Horizon. The main couple in that novel are the close friends of the main characters in this book.

Let me preface this by stating just how much I enjoyed this story. It was not an angst ridden story simply for the sake of being angst-filled. It was genuine and pure and a real pleasure to read.

Cora is a recovering alcoholic/sex-addict. When life went bad for her she would resort to partying, drinking, and numerous one-night stands. SHe has cleaned up her act and is working on her outlook on life when she leaves San Diego for a visit back home to Arizona for her cousin (and best-friend) Mia's wedding. While there she meets Jake.

Jake is the best friend of Ryan, Mia's husband-to-be. He has recently suffered a possible career-ending injury to his elbow. His hopes and dreams are in the toilet and despite being told repeatedly that chances are good he'll fully recover after the surgery and rehab he has lost all hope.

It turns out, all Jake needed was to lay eyes on Cora. From the first moment he laid eyes on her he knew she was his saving grace, the light in his darkness. Cora, however, is nowhere near convinced.

The friendship that blooms between these two as a result of Cora refusing to date him is precious and wonderful and amazing. I know, I'm gushing, but this book just had ALL the feels and I loved it!

What I liked about this novel.....

This was definitely one of those novels that you will be pulled into the story laughing and even feeling their pain as Corey and Jake struggle with their past. I loved how this author was able to get into the heart with all of its emotional pull and give the reader some real interesting characters especially for Jake and Corey who find solace in each other when they both needed each other as one will try to remain sober and while the other who was fighting to get his pitching arm back. What will happen in the end for these two gives us their POV as they go on this emotional ride when it is so plain to see that they want or need to 'feel, love and belong?' With both of these characters needing to be saved...would they be able to save each other. I love this author writing style as it will pull the reader into a good read that will keep your attention all the way till its incredible end. Will these two individuals be able to overcome their fears and finally love each other? To find out the answer to these and many other interesting question you will have to pick up this good read to see for yourself who well this author delivers it all to the reader.

OMG I LOVED this. i loved Jake and I loved Cora.

Cora is recovering. She's recovering from forgetting herself in the bottle an the men that follow. Jake is recovering from the damaged elbow that may have just ended his promising baseball career.
They meet at Cora's cousin Mia and Jak'e friend's , Ryan's wedding and instantly feel that spark. Cora is in the stages of her recover that she tries to walk away before being tempted into relapse by 'Handsome Jake'. Jake is warned off by Ryan who tells him Cora is fragile and shouldn't be used as another notch on his bedpost - of which he has many.

Over the few days preceding the wedding, Jake barges into Cora's world and insists they must share an apartment back in her home town of Portland where she's headed to face her demons and he's headed to finish his therapy programme.

As the week pass they fall into a comfortable friendship that gets deeper and deeper by the day until they finally begin to share their pasts and look to each other for comfort and support. As Jakes arm gets stronger, they know their time together is limited and begin to prepare for him leaving to go back to his team for a shot at the big time.
When the time arrives, Jake leaves Cora, as she knew he has to, to face her demons alone while he chases his dream. After 4 awful months apart and following an SOS call from Cora's friend, Jake travels back to Portland to save Cora from herself.

I really, really loved this standalone - although now I'm wishing it was a trilogy, book 2 for the wedded bliss and book 3 for all the big league stories and babies!

4.25 Stars!!

ARC kindly provided by publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I enjoy this book. It was quite deep and full of raw emotion. It is a very character driven story that draws you in until you are completely submerged in the story. I love when that happens!

I liked Cora. I don't understand the whole rebel so hard against others until it causes damage, but I haven't been through anything quite like Cora has, so I tried to put myself in her shoes to understand it better. She's rebuilding herself from the bottom up and learning to start over and become stronger. Completely understandable...

Jake! Oh my goodness....Handsome Jake! Swoon!!! This guy is absolutely everything you would want out of a man! He has some issues himself, but he is patient, kind, caring, smart, somewhat nerdy, handsome, and he puts Cora's needs above his own. He motivates her and keeps her grounded. I loved this guy!

The entire time I was begging for them to finally get together, and I really liked how they both waited until it mattered before anything happened. I felt their chemistry was jumping off of the pages! This is a great story about growth, love, learning to let someone be there for you and trust they aren't going anywhere, and most importantly learning to love and accept yourself. Knowing you are worth it! Great read! Put this on your must read list! You will not be disappointed!

The Light of Day by Kristen Kehoe is the very first of her novels that I have read. I couldn't believe just how amazing, the story was woven together. A new adult romance that can be read without having read the first book in this series. The characters are so life like it's hard to believe it is world of fiction beautifully crafted by a talented writer.

There is something special about The Light of Day. Readers will immerse themselves into a world so hauntingly close to our own that it's stunning. Two individuals are in rehab for two different reasons. A young woman does everything she can just to get her mother to notice her but then one day realizes what's she's doing and why. Just as she's about to take on her life with her feet planted firmly on the ground, she ends up meeting a man. Not just any man, but one who was injured from his career and is buring himself in his drinks and tons of one night stands. But there she is...a young woman who draws him in like a magnet. What will become of two broken souls and their undeniable chemistry? Kristen Kehoe knows exactly what to give her readers and how to entice them into her glorious world of romance. I am hooked. I can't wait to read more by Kristen Kehoe and would highly recommend her novel to all. I rate The Light of Day a five out of five stars.

4.5 stars!

Do you love predictable, cheesy, romantic books? Books that have perfect characters and a perfect love story? Well, The Light of Day is none of those things and that is why I LOVED it! Messed up characters who have to accept themselves before achieving their goals are my favorite characters. What Jake and Cora go through will have your heart convulsing. The Light of Day deals with heavy issues and I honestly loved how the author handled it all.

After an injury to his elbow, Jake, can't pitch until it heals. Baseball is his life so you can see how hard this is for him.

Cora was an alcoholic and picked up men like they were free candy at a bank. After finally changing her ways, she feels like moving to Portland will help her. Jake feels like he should go with her.

What Jake and Cora have is...real. They become friends who help each other, understand each other, and unfortunately hurt each other in order to get where they need to be. Jake needed to do what he felt was right. I was a little worried about how this book would end but it gave me everything I needed.

I highly recommend this!

So I'm going to tell you a little secret. When I started this book I had no idea that this was apart of a duology.. or that I read this book before the first one :( I feel so ashamed

Other than that, it was a pretty good book. I just wish I knew there was a book before it--so thanks kindle unlimited for recommending me a follow-up book to a book I never read.

The Light of Day gives you pretty complex characters but in a easy-to-read book. I couldn't put it down!! There's Cora who is busy fighting her inner demons but she's a person who you can easily fall in love with. This is due to her ahh-mazing personality. Then there is Jake who is basically the hero of the day, month, and year.

Cora and Jake's love story definitely takes you into their life of chaos but it also takes you along the ride of their own personal growth. It's beautifully written and the characters are totally relatable and again loveable. I definitely don't regret reading this book first but I do hope they are at least mentioned in the first book--because it will break my heart if it's about totally different people!! I will not be looking at the reviews beforehand. Don't ruin it for me people (please!).

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

Such a strong writing style, the author has. This is a really heavy and emotional read, which I didn't mind because I like reading dramatic books with messed up characters. However, I mind that the characters are self-destructive. It's okay, I guess, since that's the only way they know how to cope but I don't support it so I was kinda turned off.

The book is more focused on the characters than on the plot so it has a slow pacing. I don't usually read slow-paced books because they bore me a lot but for this one, I decided to see what the characters' fate are in the end and I'm glad I did because I learned a lot with their decisions. I don't know a lot of emotionally drained people (or ones that are self-destructive enough to numb themselves crazy with alcohol and stuff), at least personally, so it was refreshing to witness the transition of these characters from bad to good and, eventually, to better.

It was good to read something out of my comfort zone. I commend Miss Kristen for her writing.

The Light of Day (a Beyond the Horizon novel) by Kristen Kehoe

This book was so enlightening and beautiful. You meet Cora & Jake and you can't help but feel for them and root for them from the very first page. They are both struggling internally & both broken from their past. I love that they both know that the possibilities with them are great yet they move slowly and they stall. You see them actually become friends and you see their friendship flourish its MORE. But at the same time they have this point where they need to do some character development on their own before they can truly be great and wonderful together. I also loved that this story touched on struggles that we have today as human beings without the book story background. It sheds light on them while also showing that even those who are amazing people have flaws. Loved reading this story thank you!

This book surprised me by how much I enjoyed it. You have two broken souls, Cora who had a strained relationship with her mother growing up which eventually led to a wild and crazy life style that found her in rehab. Then there is Jake, a handsome baseball player whose dream was shattered when he had to have surgery on his elbow and is not sure if he will ever pitch again.

I liked the pace that the author took while developing the relationship between Cora and Jake. It wasn't like they first met and are hopping in to a relationship. It had a realistic development that I appreciated. Also, I really liked the side story with Cora's mom and her illness, and AJ and Liam.

I loved Cora and Jake together and I really liked the style of writing from the author.

Bottom Line: This is a book about finding yourself. This book is a love story between two broken souls. Who should read it? Everyone that has ever loved.

I'm finding that there are many New Adult books that are leaning more towards character-driven stories, than plots that surround the "will they or won't they get together!?" question. The Life of Day by Kristen Kehoe is definitely one of these character-driven stories that I cannot stop reading.

Right off the bat, I felt connected with Cora, who, after spending time in rehab, is doing her best to stay sober. But when she meets Jake, she remembers how easy it is to fall into old habits and self-destruct, which is why she tries so hard to not let Jake in. Jake, whose point of view the story is also told from, has his own issues that he's trying to work through.

I've seen troubled characters come up a lot in New Adult, but I felt Kehoe's take on them was fresh, and just as heartfelt as it was heart-breaking. The voice drew me in right from the first page. Kehoe may be my new favorite New Adult author, beating out even K.A. Tucker.

Great book about two flawed individuals who overcome their fears and learn to love.
There has been mention of profanity and explicit sex in this book but I failed to notice the swearing and the sex scenes were pretty tame.
Cora and Jake meet through mutual friends and the spark between them is obvious from the beginning. Cora is a recovering alcoholic and she is hesitant to begin a meaningful relationship. Jake is a college baseball player who is working through a major injury. They both move to Portland to face their demons together.
I loved the Mother / Daughter struggle in the book. It really gave some insight to Cora's wild behavior in her younger years.
This novel will teach you that no matter what you were, you are not that person anymore. Everyone deserves someone they can lean on and love with all their heart.

I'm not sure what I expected from The Light of Day but I can tell you it wasn't this. It's been a long time since I connected so deeply with characters. From the very first introduction of handsome Jake and Blue I was hooked.

Two twenty-something's struggling to navigate life. Cora and Jake were completely relatable, they suffered from challenging relationships with their parents, the struggle of accepting failed dreams, battling addiction and losing themselves. Watching them grow together and apart had me flipping the pages faster than I had ought to have been but I couldn't help my self! I officially have a book hangover...

This is definitely on my must read list.

I loved, LOVED this book. It is new adult genre which has apparently become my favorite genre. And I just love when a book features a broken character. I love it even more when both main characters are broken and they are what saves each other. That was most definitely the case for Chloe and Jake.

I think what I love most about love stories featuring broken people is that they are always complicated, and that mirrors life. The best things never come easy. The best relationships take work. Overall, great story line.

I also really like the author’s writing style, especially the fact that the reader gets to read the story from both Jake and Chloe’s point of view.

I will definitely be reading more of Kristen Kehoe.

I gave this book 5 stars.

This is the second book of a series, and although it stands fairly well on its own, there are some obvious references to character back stories that mean nothing without the context. I found the style to be similar to Colleen Hoover, which will probably appeal to a lot of people (it's a bit slow for my taste.) Cora and Jake both had interesting back stories, and it was an emotional roller coaster, especially with Cora's mother, although I felt like the resolution of her condition was sort of a cop out. I liked Cora for the most part, but found Jake a little to melodramatic, and his "playboy"-ness was more off putting than attractive.

At the beginning of this book I was a bit lost and confused, having not read the other book(s?) in this series. I never figured out some these things, but it didn’t really interfere with my enjoyment of the story; it just meant I had to work a bit harder at suspending my disbelief in some places.
I liked the story and the characters, but I felt they were a bit too understanding of each other’s difficulties and talked about their feelings and emotions slightly too easily. Sometimes I found it difficult to accept that the characters were around 22; they’d already done so much living.
Overall, I thought this was a solid NA novel. Nothing more, nothing less.

Cora was the wild and free party girl with an addiction. She has started over now sober.

Jake is starting over as well after blowing out his arm, not sure if he will every play again. They are both broken, and Jake knows that they should be together and is willing to give Cora the space to realize it too. Overall I thought the story was good, and both characters were well developed and likeable. My only problem with this story is that I felt like I had read it before, not much depth and it dragged in places.
