In this humorous, practical book, Joan Rivers shows every woman how to be the best she can be and stay youthful, healthy, and mellow at any—and every—age. Filled with entertaining anecdotes and stories, Don't Count the Candles provides down-to-earth, sensible advice on everything that every woman needs to be her best, from wardrobe and fitness to surgery and sex. Here is Joan Rivers's own unique take on Take it from Joan Rivers—you've got a lot of living left to do!
Joan Rivers (born Joan Sandra Molinsky) was an American comedian, actress, talk show host, businesswoman, and celebrity. She was known for her brash manner and loud, raspy voice with a heavy metropolitan New York accent. Rivers was the National Chairwoman of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and is a board member of God's Love We Deliver. Like the ground-breaking Phyllis Diller, Rivers' act relied heavily on poking fun at herself. A typical Rivers joke about her unattractiveness: "I used to stand by the side of the road with a sign: 'Last girl before freeway.'"
Joan Rivers was one of the brightest and funniest comediennes I've ever heard. Her wit was sharp as an ice pick and she often used it to skewer anyone who crossed her path.
This book is less a book of Joan's unique brand of humor and more of a self-help book, Queen of Mean style. Joan gives us her best advise in the varied aspects of aging, or how to do so without making a spectacle of yourself. Better suited to a middle-age or older audience, Don't Count the Candles is witty and entertaining, but not the laugh out loud rant I expected.
Nothing deep or earth-shattering here, I enjoyed the book as a fast, fun read.
Amazing woman! She's so right. I'm about to turn 30, and I'm NOT "counting the candles." I'm going to keep living like I'm turning 20 tomorrow, no matter how many fabriche eggs I own.
