Pretty Wiccan Rebecca Colby borrowed money from her father to start her bakery, and now he’s calling the loan due. When she learns he fell off the gambling wagon and owes big money to some scary people, she has to start making a profit—quickly—and hope the loan shark takes payment plans before anyone has an “accident.”
Hot Cowboy Dru Tanner is looking for his missing sister who left Texas to explore their New England Wiccan roots. She’s the only family he has left and losing her is not an option. Dru has to hide the fact that he’s not Wiccan long enough to infiltrate a Portsmouth, NH coven, which is the only lead he has.
Dru needs a job and a place to stay. Rebecca needs cheap help, and he’s willing to work for nothing. Perhaps he can pick her brain about Wicca and she can learn how to run a business from a ranch foreman—if lust doesn’t drive them crazy first.
Ashlyn Chase has been a registered nurse for 20 years. During those years, she wrote articles for professional journals and a thesis, but eventually, thank goodness, discovered the joy and freedom of writing fiction.
Ashlyn considers herself lucky. Her degree in behavioral sciences is a combination of psychology and sociology, so she has worked with and studied people most of her life. She never has to write out exhaustive character sketches to understand her characters or predict how they will behave. That doesn't mean they don't surprise her. Sometimes they take her on grand unexpected journeys. For her, it gives "character driven novels" a whole new meaning.
Ashlyn has learned to go with the flow. To enjoy the journey is not only one of her writing goals, but also a challenge in life so she tries to follow where the story takes her. As such, she has lived in 17 different places over the years. At last, she's all settled down and comfy in New England.
Is there a grand design or do we decide our own fates? Perhaps if the powers-that-be have a plot, then they also give us the right to revise it. Ashlyn has certainly made detours on her path, but she thinks she's better for it. She's having fun at any rate and hopes that if she enjoys the journey, so will those around her—including her readers.
Eh. I don't know if I'm a bit too cruel with the stars but I just can't give it three stars.. I remember reading the second book and really loved it as a teenager, so when I see a set a two books (this and the second book) I decided to give it a try. I personally find it hard to get into the book, as the first two chapters just abruptly get into witches ritual lalala without any information if this book has different world or is it a wiccan community within our world? I find it very confusing. Thankfully there's no insta-love or I will have to reduce a star Also I absolutely despise Mike or Duke or whomever that was that rich guy. And April or Sashta or whatever that girl was. I just despise when some amnesiac person so carelessly fell for someone they didn't even know. Like heck. Every time I read something like that I would be like: Wow, such an idiotic airhead :)

Lots happening in this story. We meet Dru Tanner and Rebecca Colby - this is mostly their story. We meet Rebecca's Coven. We finally meet Dru's sister, Shasta or April as she is now called, and an assortment of characters that are a hoot. There's a wee bit of intrigue, some Italian witches that I think I've met before, and the cutest (and sexy) love story. And then there is the unHoly Grail... It's book one of what I hope will be more stories about the rest of the Coven. I enjoyed.
Now this author I have met, and this is the first book I got of her’s - and it was just as expected - fantastic.
This book has witches, it has magic, it has baked goods, it has a bit of suspense and of course a fabulous love story.
Rebecca and Dru are the epitome of friends to lovers — I loved these characters - and all the others who make this story a joy to read.
There is a bit of suspense, Dru is trying to locate his sister, and comes to Portsmouth on a lead, Rebecca owns and runs a bakery, and her cinnamon rolls are blue ribbon worthy, you can taste them through the book…..
I love the obstacles with family, funny characters, stupid characters and of course you have the jerk —-
This book was so wonderfully written and definitely needed after reading a very dart book….
Go check out Ashlyn - she is a true talent and wonderful human.
She is a witch. He is from a Texas ranch hunting for his missing sister. She owns a bakery in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It is a Fun story with loan sharks (her father is a gambler and he loaned her the money to buy her home in which she set up the bakery, then he lost money he had borrowed from the sharks and wanted her to sell and give him the money. Meanwhile, there are the coven members and finding his sister, and her boyfriend. Lots of twists a n d turns--and, of course, magic!! Can hardly wait to read the next one.
Picking up a book by Ashlyn Chase is like receiving a phone call from one of your favorite loved ones back from vacation. You know there's going to be plenty of laughs as the escapades are shared with you. This one touched pretty close to home as my oldest once had a fugue episode so I could identify with the reaction from a loved one all too well. Ashlyn's ability to touch on such issues while remaining light hearted is just one of the reasons she's earned herself a place on my must-read list.
A really good book. Loved Dru and Rachel's story with side story of April. Great fun with the coven and their powers! I'm sure you all can enjoy Ashlyn Chase's series!
A fun, fast paced magical romance. Was it the love spell or just instant connection? It was a little too fast paced for me, both for April & Dru's romances. But it was fun and filled with humour.
THE CUPCAKE COVEN is a light and humorous PNR that will surely tickle your fancy.
It's been a while since I've read an Ashlyn Chase book but this listen was cute and reminded me how fun her writing can be. While the story was enjoyable what really hit me was all the little setting details. I used to vacation in the area that the book takes place so certain things just seemed to jump out at me. In fact those little tidbits gained a half point rating for the book as I would normally have given it a 4.
Rated 3.5 Stars - Also posted at my blog, TBR Mountain Range, along with other books I've read.
Entertainment abounds when a coven of witches whip up a few spells to help their friend hold onto her bakery while losing her heart. Can a long distance romance work between a cowboy and a baker if they believe in magic?
Dru Tanner takes a leave of absence from his job as ranch foreman in Austin, Texas, so he can search for his missing sister, Shasta. The last time he heard, she was traveling to Salem, Massachusetts, to find out if it was true that one of their ancestors was a witch. It's not like Shasta to stay out of touch for so long so Dru suspects something has happened to her.
On his way to search for his sister, Dru makes a wrong turn and arrives in Salem, New Hampshire. It's possible Shasta is near so he finds a coven to join in Portsmouth. Since his sister is Wiccan, Dru hopes someone has seen her or knows about her.
Rebecca Colby belongs to the coven that Dru joins in Portsmouth and she owns a bakery in town. That night each member writes a spell and Rebecca's centers on her business, which is failing financially. Her father loaned her the money to start the bakery but for some unknown reason he is insisting that she pay it back immediately. Rebecca needs to make her business profitable quickly in order to pay him back.
When Dru offers to help Rebecca at the bakery, she accepts because he will be able to search for his sister while he hands out samples for her. If they're lucky, or the goddess is willing, they'll both succeed in their goals. Are they both ready for more than cupcakes heating up the kitchen?
Dru is a Texas cowboy completely out of his realm in the city, surrounded by the charming men and women in the coven. Rebecca fumbles with magic and her business savvy, trying to make a profit while pleasing everyone without asking for help. Dru can't resist becoming invested in Rebecca's success and he enlists the coven's support. When trouble brews, can the coven outsmart the evil focused on destroying Rebecca's hopes for the future?
THE CUPCAKE COVEN is a bewitching launch to Ashlyn Chase's new series. A lighthearted romance combines with a suspenseful plot, magically entertaining readers with laughter and a sweet love story. Even though the story is sweet, the heat doesn't always stay in the oven. Rebecca and Dru's passion for one another burns up the pages amongst their caring nature for friends and family. A cute story for the happy-ever-after addicted!
Book Review Of “The Cupcake Coven” by Ashlyn Chase
Rebecca Colby has started her own business, baking muffins and wonderful desserts from her bakery called Bewitching Bakery. Rebecca had to borrow the money from her father to start her business, but now her father has come calling for the loan to be paid back in full. Rebecca is wondering why her father needs the money so bad, and quickly starts to wonder if he is back to his old habits of gambling?
Rebecca is worried that her business is not doing well, and decides to do a spell at one of her monthly wiccan groups to bring her more customers. Rebecca’s wishes are granted but, just not in the way she expected!
A hunky Texan cowboy named Dru Tanner shows up at the wiccan gathering and can’t stop starting at Rebecca. Dru is not at the gathering because he is a new witch, he is there to gather information in hopes of finding his sister who has gone missing. Will Dru be tempted by the lovely Rebecca and her delicious desserts, or will he learn the whereabouts of his sister?
Will Rebecca’s spell work, and will she bring customers into her bakery, and start make money or will she losing everything including her father, and her business?
Delicious desserts are not the only treats that will be baking in this novel. Dru and Rebecca are about bake up some sweet passion in Ashlyn Chases novel “The Cupcake Coven.” Wonderful banter and romance grace the pages of this novel. I love the Wiccan aspects and spells in this novel, and I also love the devotion that Dru shows towards Rebecca. He never leaves her side, no matter what. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series!
Cupcake Coven by Ashlyn Chase has the perfect blend of humor and romance that kept me turning the pages. I loved the quirky but sensitive Rebecca she isn’t your typical heroine and that made me love her more. When she gets into trouble the world’s most unlikely hero steps up to help her.
Dru, a cowboy with Wiccan roots. He needs a job and place to stay Rebecca needs cheap help. It all works out. When Rebecca is threatened Dru will do whatever it takes to protect the woman he is starting to fall for. I liked his heart and soul; he is a hero right now to his leather boots. Heart of gold that he will deny he has.
Ms Chase brings me a great story set in New England that I didn’t want to end. I hope to hear more about this great town and those that live there in the future. I fell in love with everyone in this book. This book kept a smile on face as I read it.
I absolutely loved this book. Not only does it have comedy but also a great story. I fell in love w/all the characters. So that makes me want them to each have a book of their own. This is a new series by the wonderful Ashlyn Chase. if u loved her other books like Strange Neighbors, Werewolf Upstairs, & Vampire Next Door. I guarantee u will love this one. It did make me wanna eat pastries throughout the entire book, which I do believe was the point. :) Rebecca is a favortire of mine but Dru was my all time favorite. I'm a sucker for cowboys. I also really enjoy Myranda & Raven. I guess because we share the same names. :) I may be biassed on that. Ethan really had me laughing though. I suppose he is next in line as a all time fave. Just go by the book & dive into the bewitching bakery. :)
Really enjoyed this new series from Ashlyn Chase! I loved Dru and Rebecca! The Coven were awesome as well and Fayleen made me giggle, she's a fun character, kinda scary but fun! It was a really addictive read.
I was hooked from start to finish with Dru's search for his sister and him falling for Rebecca and trying to help her out with her troubles. I felt for Shasta/April in the story, she had a hard time of things considering she was suffering from amnesia and especially considering the reason for her amnesia. I also felt for Rebecca with the troubles she was having with the store and because of her father.
I love how it worked out in the end but I'd love to keep updated on them and what happens with them throughout the series! I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!
Very enjoyable read :). We have a cowboy, Dru, in New England looking for his missing (amnesic) sister, Shasta, who is Wiccan. So he joins a coven in hopes of locating Shasta. He finds he may have bitten off more than he can chew. But will not give up.
We also have a witch with a bakery that she funded from money borrowed from her dad. He is calling in his loan because of gambling debts. The loan shark wants to take the money out of Rebecca's bakery and threatens her when the dad doesn't cover his debt.
After meeting with the coven Dru appears at Rebecca's bakery and offers to work for her while looking for Shasta.
The Cupcake Coven by Ashlyn Chase is a first in a new series that I hope she keeps writing for a long time.
I loved all of the characters in this first book. Hanna/Hazel, Rebecca, Fayleen, April/Shasta and Dru were all well developed characters that were quirky and relatable - except for maybe Fayleen. Fayleen provided the the fun and humorous moments that caused me to laugh out loud while I was reading. The plot moved smoothly and so quickly that I couldn't believe when it was over. There is more than one mystery, gangsters, magic and some sweet and sexy love between Rebecca and Dru. Definitely looking forward to the next book in this series, TUG OF ATTRACTION.

Ashlyn is my go to author for feel good funny quirky supernatural reads. She has done it again with this book. Dru being a sweet smoken hot cowboy out to find his sister. HE also finds a little more then he realized with the coven. Rebecca borrowed money from her dad and now needs help keeping the bakery she loves. The heat between him and Rebecca is well scorching but they try and deny it often.Threw the twists and turns this book is a feel good time. At times I laughed out loud.
I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Coven of witches. check. Sexy cowboy. check. mystery. check. romance and hot steamy sex scenes. Check and check. Enough sweets to satisfy the most insatiable sweet tooth....check.
I am in love with this book. It has everything. Dru is such a southern charmer and Rebecca is so cute and quirky. I couldn't stop reading what was going to happened next and I was laughing all the way through.
Ashlyn Chase Has done it again! I’m telling you I have never picked up one of her books and been disappointed that’s for sure. She has a way with words. The Cupcake Coven is not any different. I love the story and the characters perfect mix of paranormal and romance, for any reader. Thank you Ashlyn Chase for another winner.
What a great book! When Rebecca borrows money for you new business from her father she thinks she has time to repay him, think again! Add in a few hitmen, a hunky newbie Wiccan and his sister with amnesia and you have a mix for a funny read that you won't want to put down! Cannot wait for the next in the series! Chase has done it again!
I just couldn't read another word.. I tried, really I did. I made it about 2/3 of the way through the book, but every time I turned a page there was a new justification to a problem in the story. It was disjointed, lacked cohesiveness and was an overall poorly written story. I'm sorry, I wanted to like it, but just couldn't
A story as sweet as the cupcakes Rebecca Colby serves, this book was entertaining without being too intense. Dru Tanner helps Rebecca while searching for his younger sister, who was researching her witchcraft roots. The coven's members are lively and likable and the story has a few interesting surprises. A pleasant read for a winter's afternoon.
For the most part, this was a very fun read. It really falls down at the end though when the hero and heroine have all their problems solved for them. It left me feeling as though none of the characters grew or changed. I'm all for HEA endings, but the way it was handled left me feeling lukewarm.
Cute premise and fun characters. ended too abruptly, leaving me somewhat puzzled as to how it was all going to be resolved. I got the general idea, but would have liked more epilogue to flesh it out.
