I was born in Overland Park, KS, in the heart of Tornado Alley, and my life has been a bit twisted since. Actually, it’s not all that twisted, but I’ve always wanted to use that line. I grew up in St. Louis, MO, went to school at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and moved to Bloomington, IL, fresh out of college, after my husband got a job at State Farm’s corporate headquarters. I’ve worked as a high school/junior college teacher, personnel recruiter, office manager of a jewelry store, and, for the past ten years, as a lunch lady. I like to karaoke and attend rock concerts. I am actively involved at church and spend too much time on Facebook. I am the mother of a eighteen-year-old, and sixteen-year-old triplets, and have been married to my husband, Don, for over twenty-four years. I have been a writer all my life. My first book, which was co-written with Mary Ellen Murphey in second grade, was titled The Black Cat, and was written on blue hotel stationary, hole-punched, and bound by white yarn. I believe it is currently out of circulation. When I turned forty, I had an epiphany of sorts. I realized those bigwig publishing houses in New York were now probably run by people younger than me, so I shouldn’t be intimidated by them. At about the same time I was watching one of those award shows, and Jaclyn Smith got up to give a post-humorous award to Aaron Spelling. She credited him for encouraging her to go into acting, saying something brilliant like, “Reach for your dreams.” Nothing new. Almost even seems a little Jiminy Cricketish. But, for some reason, it struck me that night. When Aaron Spelling was thirteen, he was probably just like any other acned thirteen-year-old. But he worked to achieve his dreams, and became a household name. So, I began to write. Once I finished my first book, I wasn’t able to stop. I would rather write than do just about anything else. After all, you get to make people (characters) do what you want and design your own happy endings. What power! What a privilege.
ROCK ME, GENTLY is the latest release in M.J. Schiller’s contemporary, adult, Rocking Romance series about the bad boys of rock and roll. Every story is a stand alone and not interconnected. This is Josh Dunningham-front man for the rock group Money Back Guaranteed and advertising executive Cassie McCallister’s storyline.
Told from alternating close third person POV the premise follows the building relationship between Josh and Cassie, and the eventual discovery that someone is targeting Cassie for destruction. Josh and Cassie first met in Las Vegas where Cassie and her friend were in town for a little R&R. Josh is a bit of a man-whore and Cassie was his next intended conquest but Cassie ran before anything could happen. Josh could not get Cassie out of his mind and sets into motion a plan to make Cassie his own.
Josh is the epitome of a rock and roll god-alcohol, drugs and women but something about Cassie pulls at Josh and he intends to discover the who and what of Cassie McCallister. As one band mate considers retirement another considers revenge and uses everything and everyone to get what he wants. Money Back Guaranteed, for all of their success, is a band on the verge of falling apart.
Cassie and Josh’s relationship is tumultuous in the beginning. Cassie has a difficult time trusting anyone with her heart and Josh has a past that considers Cassie expendable and that past sees Cassie as standing in the way. When threatening letters turn to physical violence, Cassie’s safety is compromised by the lifestyle of the man who has stolen her heart.
MJ Schiller pulls the reader into a fast paced, emotional and sometimes humorous storyline of one couple’s journey towards a happily ever after. The secondary characters including friends, family and wanna be’s are colorful, dangerous, and drive a portion of the premise. We get a revealing look at both Josh and Cassie’s background: from emotional childhood drama to their adult successes and failures. No one’s past is without a few skeletons in the closet.
Rock Stars are always used to getting what they want, when they want and they never have any shortage of female company as they are forever having females chucking themselves at them. What will happen though when lead singer of Money Back Guarantee and Yes - they actually have given people their money back due to not enjoying their concerts, finds himself rejected by the one person he seems to be attracted to - Cassie McCallister. After a night in Vegas, Cassie finds herself being chatted up by none other than Josh Dunningham - the hunky lead singer, she can't believe her luck. However, Cassie isn't like the other girls Josh chats up and he will find himself going back to the hotel with an empty bed. The pair go their separate ways, but Cassie without realising has cast a spell on Josh and Josh can't stop thinking about her - the one who got away. He has never felt this way about a girl before and now all of a sudden he is overwhelmed with lovey dovey feelings for Cassie. Can Josh prove to Cassie by putting aside his bad boy ways , that he is the right person for her or will Cassie always view Josh as someone who just wants to put another notch on his bedpost. If you love Karaoke, Music and a Rocking Rockstar romance then Rock Me Gently by MJ Schiller is the book for you.
In yet another rockstar tale, this author has written a story of deception, jealousy and crazed fans! I wavered on a 5 star vs 4 star. It was good but I thought it was too predictable. The characters were great and written well and, although short appearances only, I especially liked Heather. She was a strong, no nonsense woman I would have liked more of.
Rock stars are real people, just like the rest of us. The rock star is this book is amazing, with all his ups and downs. He is a real person (a real fictional person at least). Both Josh and Cassie are so real that they are easy to relate to. Everyone has previous heartbreaks that can make you hesitant. Both characters are very well written, we slowly learn about them as they learn about each other. You are there with them through it all. You laugh with them and cry with them. Maybe not all rock stars are real. I hope there aren’t any like Lanny. From the very beginning, I did not like him (more like hated him). The way he treats women makes me just want to throw something at him again and again. But he makes the perfect bad guy, dark and evil (silently sitting in a corner). The characters are great, the story is great, and the romance is sweet and sexy. The plot twists are captivating. The villains are nasty. If you like rock stars, romance or stalkers, you will love this book! 4.5 STARS
Rock star romance without a unique storyline are getting tiring for me. Someone in Josh’s life is trying to kill Cassie so they won’t be together. Also we have the usual catching him getting it on with a groupie..come on, do better please…
ROCK ME, GENTLY is a tale of a rock star who gets his world turned upside down when he meets a girl who will change it all. It has love at first sight, sweet and steamy love scenes and a bit of danger to keep you on the edge of your seat.
Josh Dunningham of Money Back Guaranteed is a rock star, and he has been living like a rock star. Sex, drugs, and rock and roll all the way. Women chase him, throw themselves at his feet, leaving no challenge left for him. He's getting bored of the same old, and wonders if it's time for a change. His answer comes in Vegas in the form of a beautiful tequila shooting girl.
Cassie is an ad exec, who's had her heart broken leading to trust issues in herself and in men. She is hesitant when Josh Dunningham hits on her at a bar in Vegas. She is so not that kind of girl. She can admit he's hot for sure, but Cassie is not the one-night stand kind. In spite of her doubts, she follows him up to his room and prepares to have a crazy night of no strings attached sex. She however loses her nerve and leaves him with a note on the pillow and heads back to her hometown of Chicago.
The first chapter of this book really drew me in I liked Cassie and Josh's flirting in Vegas and wondered where it would all lead. When she left him. I was stunned. Is she crazy? But then we find out Cassie has been hurt before and just doesn't have it in her to do a one-night stand even with a hot rocker. But little does she know Josh has decided he is not looking for a one-night stand with her. He is actually looking to explore something real with her, something he has never experienced before even with his own parents....love.
Along the way Josh messes things up with Cassie, he doesn't know how to do emotions. He messes up and then goes above and beyond romance. Pulling the kind of romantic gestures all girls dream of. I loved reading the conversations between Josh and his best friend Ryan when he needs advice on how to deal with his feelings for Cassie. Their brotherly relationship was really endearing. There are also a couple of other problems that come into Cassie and Josh's way that they have no control over, and that's where the danger comes in. I have to say I held my breath waiting to see where the author was going with that part of the story. It was a bit crazy but began to work the more I read.
If you like hot rockers, love at first sight, whirlwind romance give this one a read. It's worth it
Josh Dunningham is a HOT Rocker. I loved this book. I am a huge M.J. Schiller fan. As with all her other books I love her men and Josh is just another fine example of a beautiful character she writes. I read this book in one setting.
Josh and Cassie meet in Vegas and have the beginnings of a steamy night. Cassie gets jumpy and leaves Josh before they can get to the good stuff. Josh cannot quit thinking about her and Cassie is just as taken with Josh. Cassie has past relationship issues and is reluctant to all of Josh’s advances. Josh has commitment issues because of his childhood. Finally they get a good thing going.
Josh is so sweet! When he wants something he knows how to swoon a girl. I loved the whole basketball game scene. Cassie is somewhat innocent but has a fiery personality. They compliment each other nicely.
I love M.J.’s writing she does not waste time with her characters they get straight into their relationship and we get to see more of the building of the relationship instead of a bunch of angst that drives me crazy sometimes. This book filled me with joy and had me laughing out loud several times. Josh and Cassie share funny banter amongst each other. I felt their love and felt as though I was right there with them. This is a sweet love story that is filled with just the right amount of steaminess in the love scenes.
Of course we must not forget that M.J. throws a mystery in her story as well and this mystery did not disappoint at all. I was sitting on the edge of my seat while everything unfolded.
All the books in this collection are stand-alones. I have read the entire Rocking Romance Collection and I have loved each book. Rock Me, Gently will not disappoint you for a sweet love story. M.j. Schiller is one of my favorite authors. This will definitely not be my last book by her.
Quotes:
“I’m not very good at showing I care. I’ve never wanted to before. I’ve never needed to before.” – Josh
He bent slowly in and kissed her; not the fast, fiery kisses that usually ignited between them, but deep, tender kisses. He released his heart with each one, squeezing her in his arms. She laid her head down on his chest again and swayed together, holding on like a lifeboat in a storm.
“You are not just another girl to me, Cassie McCallister.” – Josh
“My gosh, Cassie. You are so beautiful, you take my breath away.” Her eyes searched his as if the answers to the Universe lay there. “ I think I’m falling in love with you.” – Josh
M.J. Schiller knocks it out of the park with her latest edition to the Rocking Romance Series. Rock Me, Gently is a sweet romantic story with likable, well-developed characters and delicious chemistry between the two leads. The story starts in Vegas, where rock star Josh Dunningham meets the innocent Cassie McCallister who sends him reeling with just a look. Josh is a love ‘em and leave ‘em kind of guy and admittedly enjoys the sexual benefits of being a rock star. Cassie has had her heart-broken in the past and consider herself damaged goods. Both are vulnerable and searching for love, which becomes clear as soon as they meet.
There is so much to like about this book. Schiller has a knack for detail, using her words to effortlessly lead the reader right where she wants them. Her descriptions of everything, from the Josh’s reaction upon laying eyes on Cassie to his perception of her as a hummingbird, darting from one thing to another or just the simple color of the light pouring out from the kitchen windows is almost poetic in its delivery.
Both Cassie and Josh have a past that leaves both hesitant to trust the growing passion and affection between them. Despite their desire to protect themselves from heartbreak and commitment, they find themselves falling in love while battling their demons to find their happily ever after. The chemistry between the two is off the charts and in this day and age when so many authors are going for the “in your face, TMI” approach to loves scenes, Schiller takes the reader through scenes of sensuality where a subtle caress or an inexperienced but seductive removal of clothing leaves the reader breathless.
The secondary characters of Rock Me, Gently are fairly typical, but likable nonetheless. In addition to falling in love, Josh and Cassie also find themselves embroiled in a plot designed to break them up that takes a dangerous turn, but one that, in the end, only brings them closer. And, in the midst of love and suspense, there’s an understated story of the importance of family, whether it be biological or chosen. If there was one negative that I could point to, it would be the lack of background that led to Josh becoming a rock star. There’s not much passion in Josh’s approach to music other than a song that he writes midway through the book about Cassie, leaving the rock and roll plot to fall flat. Regardless, I’d recommend Rock Me, Gently to anyone who enjoys a good romance.

Rock Me, Gently is another great book in the Rocking Romance Series.
Everything happens so quickly it kind of felt like bam-bam-bam, but definitely in a good way. There’s no time to get bored; it’s filled with romance, action, and a fun-loving rock star.
Josh loves the limelight of being a rock star. To him there’s no thrill like being on stage. But one night, which hadn’t turned out as planned, has him missing someone he’d just met. It takes a best friend like Ryan to get him to realize why he’s in the funk he is and how to get out of it. Love Ryan!
“Matching red, lace underwear. Of course she did. God, don’t women know what that does to a man?”
Cassie doesn’t have a lot of experience with men, but the little she does have was enough to scar her and leave her hesitant and unsure of how to handle certain scenarios. She begins to let her walls down around Josh only to have him ruin what little trust she’d allowed him.
“It’s the thrill of the chase. I should just sleep with you and get it over with. Then we could both go our separate ways.”
Cassie may think she’s done with men, including Josh, but he’s determined to get her back by any means necessary.
“He didn’t think he could love a woman more. One who liked sports and could keep him in his place; now that was a find.”
Compared to the other books in the series, this one had more of a sweetness factor. Don’t get me wrong, it still has violence and light suspense, but it was more on the gentle side (with the exception of one or two crazy moments with slightly…okay maybe more than slightly…crazy people). Mix in an awesome best friend like Ryan, a crazy and loudmouth best friend like Heather, and you’ve got a book that’ll grab you from chapter one.
My Favorite Laughable Moments: The night they met…particularly the pool part, but I also loved it when they discussed ‘stalker’ songs. Then of course there’s karaoke night. That was freaking hilarious! Nothing like a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T!
My Favorite Moment: A special onstage performance orchestrated by Josh.
Thanks to the author I was allowed to read a complimentary copy of this book for an honest review. Have you ever read a book that really surprised you? This book was one of those. You see a book about a rock star and expect attitude, sex, etc. There was a little bit of attitude but for the most part, this is a sweet love story about a rock star that finds his soul mate unexpectedly. He hasn't had much love in his life so he isn't sure of his feelings and certainly isn't sure how to express them. This is also a story of a young lady that has had hard luck in the love department. Her one relationship ended in a most unusual way and left her heartbroken. Needless to say, she is hesitant to give her heart away again. The problem is that her sexy rock star doesn't wait for her to give her heart, he jumps in and takes it. As the story progresses, we get to see the growth in these two characters as they both realize what they want out of life. Throw in a little suspense and intrigue towards the end of the story and you have a great book. I will definitely be reading more of this author in the future.

In the news, you hear about record artists in the same breath as with sex, drugs, and rock -n- roll. Therefore, it's no big surprise M.J. featured all the above in this musical love story.
You'll also find Cassie the target of, not one, but two wackos. Jealousy is a bitch and she learned that the hard way.
The plot centering around the nut-cases was interesting. Not many stories have multiple villains. However, the rest of the story was just ok. I didn't like Josh and Cassie so much as a couple. Cassie seemed to fall for him too fast and forgave him too easily.
First, she claims she doesn't want to be a "one-night stand" or "only one in a pack of a thousand" but she shags him after catching him making out with a woman after a show. Nah, I think I would've let him work for my attentions before putting out. Yeah, they had a HEA but still she seemed almost desperate for love.
On a final note: M.J. wrote a catchy song and I'd love to hear a beat behind those lyrics.
Josh Dunningham is a Rock Star that lives life to the fullest with no commitments to hold him back. The last thing he sees in his future is a relationship.
Cassie McCallister is gun shy. She has had her heart broken before and doesn't want to go there again.
When Josh sees Cassie in the crowded bar he is instantly entranced. When he finds out she is not an easy conquest he just can't get her off his mind. Can Josh win Cassie's heart or is he doomed for a life without love?
The story keeps you on your toes as obstacles keep popping up from every direction trying to put a stop to their budding relationship.
It is a love story that takes you thru the pains of the past, teaching you to trust in the future and hope for a life filled with love and happiness.
The author takes her time and doesn't rush the story. The chemistry is off the charts good. It is a truly moving love story that leaves you wanting for more. I would recommend this book.
M.J. has a special talent in bringing out the human traits in her characters. So many of us see the rich and famous as posing, elaborate, eccentric people who live out of touch in the world. I suppose they put on their pants one leg at a time, just like we do. And M.J. brings that out. She also doesn't hold back. The antagonist in this book is the evil of evils. He is not for the faint of heart. When rock star, Josh, finds Cassie, he finds his home ... what he's been looking for without knowing he was looking. As usual, M.J. used her magical way of making this love story home-grown real. Way to go, M.J.! Kudos!
