Rate this book
Introducing the Geologist's Primer, a system-agnostic illustrated guide to real-world crystals, minerals, and metals. Inspired by 19th-century field guides and the millennia of folklore, myths, and legends, it brings a wealth of easily-accessible, organized information straight to your gaming table.

From demon-binding agate to immortal zircon, the Geologist’s Primer is rooted in scientific geology, ancient folklore, legends, myths, and old-school alchemy. This fully-illustrated (and thoroughly-researched!) guide provides information on 100 minerals, metals, mineraloids, and crystals, along with their properties in both fantasy and modern settings!

Each entry in the Geologist's Primer provides basic geological information, notes on where to find and how to extract these materials, along with their industrial, decorative, magical, and sometimes even culinary properties. Each entry also includes a short, handy description. So if you’re just browsing for information, you won’t have to read through pages of text!

Meant to be a referential book for me when running campaigns of D&D, as well as a clever joke for my wife as she is a geologist, the book was surprisingly robust with information that can lead to some really cool and unique world building mechanics, and helps those of us who didn’t get into rocks and minerals as a hobby/career understand different aspects of everything listed.

Genuinely impressed with this one.
