What a wild trip this story had been. I really miss Sahoko and Kouta, even if the huge digression of Emika and Kanato has proven to be pretty fun and a lot friskier to boot.

It’s real hard to describe the crazy that happens this volume without feeling like I’ve had a concussion, starting with an entire chapter devoted to a Cinderella parody that gets points for having Kouta as one of the wicked stepsisters (even imaginary Kouta can barely get himself to be evil) and highlighting one stupendously ugly squirrel.

The second chapter is about Kouta and Kanato meeting during their youth as potential idols and really highlights the differences between them and how they became friends. Does an okay job.

Next up, Emika’s story of becoming an actress just so she could meet Kanato. This one has a gut busting laugh thanks to her acting coach and his demands for Emika’s use of her voice that involve property damage. It’s so out of left field that I nearly cackled.

And, finally, Emika gets transported into a second manga, one which has yet to be translated here. Despite this and it being about a student-teacher romance, there are some dumb funny moments here.

The fourth wall being ripped asunder is tricky with me, but the way it plays out visually with the mangaka enacting retribution for a character’s jab was kind of genius.

Honestly, this chapter is entirely funnier than it should be. When Emika gives advice on being sexy, something she’s just learned herself, to somebody even more clueless than she is, the results are… memorable, to say the least.

Hopefully this sort of explains the manic energy of this volume, which has no plot and hops all over backstory that nobody was actually asking for. Yet it remains engaging and damn funny, to the point where it renders my complaints moot.

3.5 stars - knocked hard for not being about, apparently, anything, but also given a lot of leeway because this many laughs from this book deserves some sort of acknowledgment. Round down if you have no truck with such nonsense.

Series review:
Volumes 1~5 follow the main couple, Sahoko & Kouta’s story. I definitely liked the original pairing the most and I felt confused when the author changed main characters to Emika and Kanato from volume 6 and forwards. This manga had so much potential to portray Sahoko & Kouta’s relationship, however it felt like the main story was fast-tracked within 5 volumes (meeting, dating, proposal) and the author lost momentum/ideas. I wish the manga spent more time focusing on the main couple’s story instead of the secondary couple.

Volumes 6~9 follow Emika and Kanato’s relationship. Volume 10 felt like a side-story extra volume. As much as I love the artwork, by the end it felt like the author was running out of ideas and the manga lost the original spark of a romantic comedy between a fan and a J-pop star. Emika and Kanato weren’t nearly as interesting as the main couple, Sahoko & Kouta. Their love story felt superficial and they went in circles trying to get together. It was disappointing how this manga progressed and it would’ve been better if it just ended at volume 5 instead of dragging out the story for no reason.

Since this was volume 10 of a series that I've generally enjoyed I went into this volume with excitement...and then to my utter disappointment this was not a continuation of either couple's story but instead was weird cosplay? I read til about halfway and then skipped to the author note at the back to see that they had taken reader's cosplay suggestions to make this volume. My question: WHY?! Those could have been bonus stories at the back of a couple of volumes instead of the entire thing. Honestly, I might end the series here. :-/

bold move to use the “it was just a dream” trope twice in one volume—with only four chapters in it 🙄

This one was really just okay. The four chapters 2 are flash backs for the second couple both of those were cute really. And we got our cry baby back on the page and I loved that. He is adorable. The other two were fantasy kind of. One was Cinderella which I hate that story so didn't like it and the other was to intertwine this story with the teacher series by this same author and I have no knowledge of it. I want our main couple back I hope we get some cute stuff with them in the last volume when it comes out eventually.

My short review: An entertaining read featuring the other main couple of this series. Looking forward to the conclusion of this series.

It's pretty clear the author was out of ideas for the series. I'm surprised this was allowed to be published as an actual volume instead of just side stories somewhere.
