Maisha Oso writes stories to empower, entertain, and encourage emotional intelligence in young children. A former strategy & analytics professional from New York City, Maisha is currently working in her most challenging role to date: a stay-at-home mom of three tiny humans.

When she’s not writing, you can find her wrangling her kids, binge-watching an unhealthy amount of reality television, or belting out lyrics from the Hamilton soundtrack. After living abroad for several years in Africa, Maisha and her family have recently moved back stateside to Alpharetta, Georgia.

A delightful rhyming picture book that leans into the cuteness of Halloween rather than the frightening. Told with humor and engaging illustrations, this is such a sweet book.

Nicely written. I really enjoyed the rhyme scheme. Great rhythm.

I also love the inclusion of baking with pumpkins, not just using them for jack-o'-lanterns.

The artwork is adorable. Love the colors and details.

A great read for getting ready for Halloween. Happy that this will be a whole series. Very well done.

Really wanted to like more than we did. Rhyming and great illustrations, especially of neighborhood but wasn't engaging enough for T and had "questionable" Halloween characters and references like ghosts and ghouls. Not bad, just not great.

Decorations, costumes, treats...oh my! There's so much to do to get ready for the big, spooky celebration, and these pages let that fun fly.

It's almost time for Halloween, which means it's time to get everything prepared...because that isn't something done just in one day. Decorations need to be hung, costumes need to be made, and plenty of sweet treats have to be ready for ghosts, ghouls, and more to devour.

The most fun is often in the anticipation and preparation, and these pages let that ore-Halloween excitement flow. The little girl is putting her heart into getting everything ready for the big day, and it's hard not to feel the joy right along with her. Plus, this books showcases the various activities readers/listeners can do themselves to get ready for the spooky day. So there's inspiration worked in as well. The ending holds a fun surprise, which jolts in just the right way to draw one last smile.

The entire thing is written in rhyme, and this flows seamlessly. The length of the text is well suited to the intended age group and makes this a very nice read-aloud. The illustrations are bright and as energetic as the girl's excitement. They also hold plenty of details for listeners/readers to search through and discover something new each time. Plus, there are a few, small surprises built in these as well.

It's a cute read to raise excitement for the holiday and a lovely way to open up to preparations.

I bought this one before reading it and shared it on Halloween with my Kindergarten and 1st grade classes. It is so colorful and fun throughout the story of preparing for and celebrating this holiday. Tom Knight and Maisha Oso have created a fabulously fun holiday book that nods to sequels in much the same way Lisa Wheeler does in her beloved Dino books. My students were riveted and begged to borrow this one. It is still being borrowed and will likely keep being borrowed this whole month. I love when my students find such joy in a read aloud that they clamor to share it with their families!

I’m reading the It’s Almost Time for… series out of order. I discovered this series after I read It’s Almost Time for…Thanksgiving! and had to read the other books. It’s Almost Time for…Halloween! was just as fun as I expected it to be. The rhyming flow of the story makes it easy to read and enjoy. The illustrations are fun and colorful. There’s even a little bear side character who’s helpful and a little naughty. (He really is excited for a different holiday.)

It’s Almost Time for…Halloween! does a good job of getting kids ready for Halloween. With a recommended reading age of 4-8, this is a story that little kids and adults will truly love.

**Personally, purchase a hardcover copy of the book.**

This book depicts a Halloween costume parade (might be fun to use the book to explain what we will be doing during storytime) and is a good overview of modern American Halloween traditions. Not the best book ever, but a good tool for explaining different Halloween activities.

This is a fun read-aloud for the classroom, which gives kids the giggles and brings the anticipation to the highest level. Maisha Oso's mic drop of rhyme allows kids to catch on and join in!

The children tried to convince me this book was about Christmas. Silly kids, it’s Halloween time! They enjoyed it.
