‘Big bro, I've learned one thing from being a woman: the creatures on this planet called men are truly disgusting.’ Even the aliens could tell 🙄 I loved this series! It was fun, silly, and quirky. The artwork was beautiful, and while the storyline wasn’t perfect, it was still great. I'm so glad the brothers reunited in the end. Alien bros, don’t worry, we humans still don’t know how to human on this planet either. ‘This is one interesting planet, Fuyunosuke. I find something new every day.’

This is the final volume. Alien brothers Fuyunosuke and Natsutaro have been promised that if Natsutaro can get a girlfriend, their planet will invade earth. But since they don’t really understand girls, they decide to become girls. It doesn’t really help, but that doesn’t matter, because their leaders inform them that they’ve already found a new planet. They won’t invade earth and the brothers should come to the new planet.

It’s a crisis for Fuyunosuke who goes off the deep end, with the result that he loses most of his natural form and can’t transform into a human anymore. For his part, Natsutaro doesn’t want to leave his pets, and earth is still interesting. There’s nothing to it but for the two of them to part ways. In the end, of the two, the clueless brother adjusts to his new life better than the cool one. But maybe the new planet isn’t very appealing to Fuyunosuke either.

This was a good end to the series. I don’t think there would’ve been more life to the story than this. I’m still not sure I liked the series, but I’m satisfied with how it ended.

I received a free copy from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

The vibes for this one felt like this...

This volume got more serious, but it perfectly encapsulated the ups and downs of life. The story focused on finding joy in the little things, quiet depression, and how the connections we make reveal more about ourselves. Though I fell in love with these characters somewhere along the way, I think a short three volume series was enough.

It's funny; the third volume seemed to anticipate some of my complaints from the first two volumes. It starts off with the protagonists marveling at the differences in gender on the human world, in comparison to the relative lack of genderedness in their species. They decide to try being girls for a bit, and one of them seems to prefer it, until misogyny gets in the way.

Still, that wasn't enough to win me over. In the end, I would say that this series is just OK, and I would advise readers to try "Hirayasaumi" instead, which I personally found much more enjoyable. In "Tokyo Alien Bros," the tone is somewhat ominous, even though it tries for humorous. The contrast between the two brothers is interesting, because the one who seems kind and cheerful has a hidden darkness/emptiness to him, while the brother who seems stiff and grouchy ends up having a heart of gold. I prefer the grouchy brother myself and found him to be much more sympathetic throughout the series.

The third volume does include a fair number of moments that feel climactic, which is nice for a finale. But overall, this isn't one of my favorite mangas. I'm glad that I gave it a try, but it just didn't resonate with me.

3.5/5

Book 1 felt a bit slow and the buildup took a while, book 2 started to pick up but book 3 really took off.

The art style felt very heart-warming and gentle but it created an interesting juxaposition with some of the events. One moment it was very slice-of-life, then, sudden pee drinking. That kind of unexpected weirdness is pretty charming imo.

Overall, I’d say it’s a wholesome read with a quirky edge.

now, vol 1 and volume 2 were meh to me, but I really enjoyed vol 3. I loved the character development of big bro and the way he adapted to live on earth, the way he started loving this flawed world and found happiness for the first time. I hope that they both get a lot of chances to smile, laugh and enjoy their lives!

the end of the tokyo alien brothers!!

although i’m sad this is the last volume being published of the series, it was if i’m honest, time for it to go. a sweet ending, but we seriously lost the plot by this 3rd book. i was highkey confused of where the story was supposed to be going.

still a great series & a romp to read!

This was a great final volume! It was interesting to see Natsutaro have a more sentimental side and Fuyunosuke feel disenfranchised with humanity. It flushed out their characters and made it more emotionally impactful. This was a fun series. I will watch for more works from this author!

A sweet sendoff for a nice, quiet series. It's definitely about Tokyo, and it's definitely about aliens, but it's mostly about brothers ❤️
