When I inherited my uncle’s old house, I expected the chipped paint, dust bunnies, (sort of) and a sprinkle of nostalgia. It was the sweet escape from a parent’s house every thirty-something year old woman needs. What I didn’t expect was the charming, pleasant, and tea loving force that would turn my world upside down.
The force in question came after reading a seemingly whimsically innocent nursery rhyme I found from a book long forgotten from childhood. A demon, who I unknowingly helped jailbreak.
What else was I supposed to do when faced with a handsome demon, but invite him to tea? I didn’t anticipate the fast friendship that blossomed between us. When the demon asked for my help to break his contractual obligation, I couldn’t resist. Except I didn’t realize agreeing to be his fake girlfriend would blur the lines of pretend and reality.
His freedom is on the line … but so is my heart.

This was cute! I was a bit thrown off at times due to the writing, I feel like the book could have been edited a bit more. I caught several grammatical errors, even your/you're, and they always influence my reading experience negatively. However, I found the story entertaining and the romance was sweet. The smut was not quite to my liking, but I really enjoyed the dynamic between Davina and Mendax. The pacing of the story also threw me off a bit, seeing as it takes place over several years with several large time skips. All in all enjoyable, but not a new favorite.
I don’t give out five stars easily, but this was a five star read for me by the end of chapter two—before it even got to the good stuff!
Davina has ADHD and her thoughts are so vivid and relatable. I was cackling.
And then we have Mendax. Oof. Gentleman is the streets and demon in the sheets. Listen. The mouth on this man…demon👌👌 10/10
I love the spice level in this book, there’s a good build up before and just enough of an overarching plot to keep ground the world and make it all make sense. I LOVED the side characters, they were so different from each other and the MCs.
I loved it so much that I convinced my GF to read it and she has been in a massive reading slump for almost six months. Reading this book is currently the only thing she wants to do. She has it up on her kindle every time there’s a lull in the day or any time she takes a break from work, before bed, if she can’t sleep, while I’m making breakfast in the morning. All. Day. She keeps giggling and kicking her feet about it, too.
So, if you need a spicy romance with a side of expert tea knowledge and a mouthy demon, get this book. You won’t regret it.
Absolutely fantastic!! Perfect spooky season, feel good, rom com with a side of monster romance. What's not to adore?! Plus....it made me giggle out loud quite a bit so bonus points!
This was a delightful romp that blends humor, fantasy, and a touch of romance.
When Davina inherits her uncle's old house, she expects a quiet retreat, but instead, she stumbles upon Mendax, a charming demon she accidentally summons through a forgotten nursery rhyme.
Their unexpected friendship evolves into a hilarious fake-dating scenario, where Davina navigates her feelings while trying to help Mendax break free from his contractual obligations. The witty banter between them is a highlight, offering both laughs and heartwarming moments.
With a relatable protagonist who has ADHD and a quirky pet bat that steals the show, this book is perfect for those who enjoy lighthearted banter and romantic misadventures.
The clever storytelling and endearing characters make this a must-read for fans of whimsical romance!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Oh my GOSH I devoured this book! As a self-described tea addict, I was immediately drawn to this book by the themes. I also love a cozy fantasy with spice, and let me just say: this DELIVERED on all counts. It's heartwarming, it's cozy, it's FUN, it's funny, it's hot as hell. (Pun intended).
Who Invited The Demon To Tea? quickly became one of my top reads of the year. I can't wait to see what Moser does with possible spin-offs. I already miss the world and the characters-I need more!
I wasn't sure what to expect but the depth of the main characters, how their relationship grew, and the wild supporting characters made this a new favorite! It is difficult to put down and keeps the reader fully engrossed. Some great laugh out loud moments and a bit of introspection for balance.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I got this book as an ARC!! I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK!! Davina accidentally summoned Mendax, who is a demon. They became best friends over tea, eventually tho they fell in love with each other. I loved them together so much!!
Cute characters and a nice story, but the writing just wasn't for me. The humour was mostly a miss (thankfully not in an awkward way), I hated when they thought out loud, and overall it was very slow. Bonus points for Gotha and all the tea. Rounding up to 3 in support of indie authors.
I will never stop gushing about this amazing work of art! I was completely entranced within the first few chapters. The FMC Davina is relatable on so many levels, her organized chaos, her laid back attitude. The MMC Mendax is a delicious mix of hot blooded Demon and heavenly gentleman. I absolutely fell in love with all of the characters, their banter and family vibes are something everyone dreams about. I can see myself and my fiance a heck of a lot in Davina and Mendax and it made the book even better! This book is going in my top favorites of all time and I will be on the look out for more of this author!
Whilst this book had its spicy scenes it was beautifully refreshing to read. I was chuckling to myself from the very first chapter as Davinas whole personality is similar to my own even to the way she speaks. The banter between Mendax and Davina is so cute and cosy but there's also a steamy side to the pair.. alongside a whole array of side characters that really bring this story to life not to mention an adorable little bat 😍.. I really did enjoy this book
I loved this book so much. I’m so picky and I’m a mood reader but this book itched my brain just right, it was exactly what I was looking for. The romance was tense but sweet, the conflicts were exciting and kept me on my toes. And the spice was honestly unexpectedly good. I say that because mendax was such a gentlemen until those sheets hit. Phew. I love this so much.
Loved this book so much. I want to try all but the rosemary tea. Loved the FMC & MMC and how they get their HEA. It's a slow burn to spicy & I loved it. The biggest complaint I had is the timeline. There is a jump in the timeline and it took me a bit to figure it out. Nothing big but was an issue. Definitely worth the read.
What a cute story! I loved it from beginning to end. The characters are adorable and you really get a feel for who they are throughout the story, not only the main characters but the side characters as well. The story is fun and endearing and I really found myself rooting for the characters. Such a charming read!
I would actually rate this a 3.5-3.75, but I rounded up. Yes, editing most definitely could have been better, but the story was overall very cute and fun! :) The open door romance was a nice level of spice and I enjoyed the dynamic between the FMC and MMC. I didn’t know what to expect from this book, but I’m happy I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would!
Oh my goodness!!! This book was so fricking cute!!!! I loved it so much! Who Invited the demon to tea is a wonderful cozy fall read! Don’t let the title fool you, this book is adorable, spicy, hilarious, and just all around great!
Who invited the demon to tea is the story of Davina who accidentally, well summons a demon with tea. Davina moves into her eccentric uncle’s house after his passing in which he left the house to her. When she gets her monthly tea subscription she immediately brews it before realizing the proper tea cups she has are some extra fancy ones left by her uncle. While reading a “silly little rhyming book” she found from her childhood, Davina settles in for a night of reminiscing and tea…..until she awakens in the middle of the night with a demon sitting on her bed asking how may he be of service.
Mendax is a charm demon currently under house arrest for a crime he didn’t commit. The one loophole tho? Being summoned. Which is exactly what happens out of the blue one day after immediately learning of his mother’s nefarious plans for his future. As Mendax realizes this human is different from others in that she truly didn’t mean to summon him AND she actually doesn’t want to make a deal with, a plan begins to form in his mind. Lie to the human about being stuck in her realm, while escaping your mother and getting out of house arrest on a technicality. What could go wrong?
Two individuals who couldn’t be more different form a friendship over tea and time spent together. Along the way, feelings evolve, but life is never that simple. Davina and Mendax cant simple BE together, they’ll have to fight for it. With countless plans against them, not to mention themselves getting in their own way…will they ever figure it out or will all be lost forever?
If you like rom coms, with spicy times with demons, found family, neurospicy normality, overbearing but well meaning parents, plots afoot everywhere , and love that makes you believe in it for real, then this book is definitely for you!
I received an arc of this book and am leaving a review of my own volition.
'Why does this tea party feel like it’s turning into a bed-and-breakfast situation?'
I absolutely loved this book! I always enjoy an accidental summoning paranormal romance- usually a recipe that goes wrong (or is it right? *wink*). But I loved the "nursery rhyme spell book." And Davina's reaction to first seeing Mendax was hilarious. I can't say I'd have had a different reaction, but it was a lot of fun to read.
I loved both Mendax and Davina. They were really cute together. I really connected with the both of them and they felt really relatable to me in their own ways. I loved Davina's personality and she made me laugh a lot.
'Usually, in the movies, this is where the victim yells out something stupid like “Hello?” or “Is somebody there?” before they’re murdered. Not me. I'm not brainless.'
Or the unsolicited 'D' pic scene. Or the spider scene (though I would have done the same!) I'd love to hang out with her!
Mendax's pet bat Gotha is adorable and I want one so bad! Especially after she flew onto his shoulder in the shower. My heart melted!
I loved how calm he was in contrast to her high energy.
'What did I just get myself into?'
I was completely hooked to this story! This is the first book I've read by this author and I will definitely be reading more. I would love to listen to it on audio someday! <3 5 stars.
I couldn’t love this book more if I tried!!!! When the first line made me laugh I knew I was in for a great time!
Davina is the most gloriously erratic neurosparkly character I’ve ever read! (She has ADHD). When she accidentally summons Mendax she handles it just how you would expect her to, entirely different to most “normies” out there.
They are the complete opposites that they each need in their lives. He’s the uptight, logical, think things through kinda person and she is the energetic, what feels right, spontaneous person and they each accept one another completely for who they are which is just so amazing to read about. I identify so much with Davina and it was literally like reading a book about myself. My husband is a “normie” finance guys and there were so many times I’d be slapping him on his arm and bouncing around saying “omg listen to this bit it’s so like us” lol.
This book also has an epic found family and I just love the found family trope. The side characters were all fantastic to read about and I fell in love with them all!!
This books has everything you need and more and you are doing yourself a disservice if you don’t read it immediately!!
This was such a cute read. It was fun, suspenseful, dramatic and full of such funny and witty banter between the main characters. Davina and Mendax have such a different relationship. This is a paranormal rom-com, slowburn romance building, friends to lovers, touch her and die, steamy spicy scenes. Loved the world building and the scene descriptions. Enjoyed the conversations she has with Mendax’ mother. They were hilarious!!
Mendax is suave, handsome, poised, charming, proper, attentive and just a 10 out of 10 for a man to be. Davina is an independent entrepreneur, not a damsel in distress, she was very likeable, snarky, witty, all with a sassy sexy attitude.
I would have loved to know more and get closure. Not sure if there is 2nd book, but I was left with questions at the end. Like what they end up doing together, where did they end up living, do they have kids together, was this a happily ever after.
I absolutely loved this book! Everything about it was entertaining. The characters were fantastic and the plot is great! Such a cool concept for a story and it was executed perfectly. I loved our FMC Davina. She's so funny and relatable. I loved her internal thoughts! Wish I could be bff's with her 🤣 Mendax was such a gentleman. I adored the progression of his and Davina's relationship, going from strangers to friends to fake dating to lovers. Such a whirlwind yet so fun to watch this relationship grow! This book also delivers on the spice, if that's your jam. Overall, this was a lighthearted, entertaining romance featuring demons and lots of tea. If you love a good rom-com, you'll enjoy this book!
Who Invited The Demon To Tea by Marilu Moser is a paranormal romcom. It follows Davina, who moved into her uncle's home and accidentally summoned a Demon. But not just any demon. He's a super classy, Tea drinking, hot demon, and although she freaks out at first glance, they end up becoming the best of friends!
I absolutely enjoyed this wild ride of a book. I mean, it's totally normal to let a demon move in with you cause he's essentially trapped in your house. Super normal.
Their blossoming friendship was so damn cute. The banter had me cackling so much. I also really enjoyed the little found family they created together, and I just wanted to be a part of it. You also get some family drama, a hot teacher neighbor, fake dating, friends to lovers, and spice!
Tropes: Demon MMC, Tea Connoisseur FMC, Accidental Summoning, Forced Proximity, Fake Dating, Friends to Lovers, Slow Burn Ending: A super cute HEA!
Squeeee!! What a fun story!
Davina inherits her favorite uncles house and all the fun stuff he collected over the years. Including the fairytale book… which turns out to be full of spells.
Like a summoning spell.
Ta da! Enter Mendax in all his demon glory. All he wants is to find out how he was summoned so he stays around and the two become friends.
I wanted this to be cute and endearing and funny but every page was just more and more of cringy millennial main character. And I get it, cringe recognizes cringe afyer all. But I could not get past the constant "quirky" mental notes or how childish this supposed 30 year old woman was. (No one is stripping off their clothes when they confuse sweat for a spider.) The whole "omg what am I'm doing inviting a demon for tea" thing was just too much. I know it's supposed to be a romantic comedy but the relationship still needs to feel real and nothing felt sincere about Davina and Mendax. Cute concept but the execution was subpar.
I received this as an ARC and it was such a delightful read. I really related with Davina as someone who recently got an ADHD diagnoses. Her and Mendax's relationship was one of the few friends to lovers that I actually enjoyed. Although I wasn't a fan of the initial time skips. Like when it goes from But their banter and the Miscreants group chat. This really shows you that demons aren't as nefarious as you thought they were.
What a wonderful read! I thoroughly enjoyed Davina and Mendax’s story. The world Ms Moser created was so much fun to dive into. I particularly loved the women with ADHD rep. This was a Stuff Your Kindle pick and I couldn’t be happier I grabbed it. My only quibble would be the lack of proofreading - the punctuation/grammar errors unfortunately took away from an otherwise wonderful book.
When I first downloaded this, I had a rough time getting into the story. I figured it was my headspace and that I needed to step away and revisit the story later. I AM SO GLAD I DID. This story was adorable, hilarious, and I flew through it within 24 hours. Mendax and Davina have a great dynamic and the banter from their friend group had me cracking up. I’m not one to highlight things in books, but I highlighted quite a few passages in this one. Also, Gotha is a precious little queen.
I got this book when it was marked as free in Kindle. Im glad I got it. It was a cute, quick read. I will say I expected Blake to be behind some of the shenanigans with Mendax, but glad he wasn't.
I definitely related to Davina's character - quirky and scattered. Mendax loved her regardless. The character development was stellar. I found myself waiting to see how everything played out.
4 stars due to some editing errors in the Kindle version.
The author thinks a 5’7” size 6 is thicc, treats AuDHD as a quirky personality trait, and needs to get somebody to proofread their novel before they publish it. The MMC gets a personality transplant during sex, which is even more annoying because in so many other ways, this book tries really hard not to be a typical instalove romance, even going so hard as to make the MCs separate with no contact or explanation for a YEAR to earn their happy ending.
This book was so beautifully written and the spice certainly spiced. This was my first book by Marilu. Davina was a whole ass vibe and everyone needs a Davina in their life. The banter between Mendax and Davina was refreshing to read and was so easy to relate too. I love the little bat and how cute it was. I overall enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend to others.
A really really nice book. Lighthearted and fun, slow ish burn, a good bit of spice, and some hilarious bits. An ADHD FMC makes it relatable and amusing. Despite including demons, the characters are realistic and diverse. There are a few typos but the storyline moves well and kept me engaged the whole way through. Absolutely recommended.
