Scrooge: A Billionaire Christmas Story

Rate this book
What does it take to ruin Christmas? One Scrooge of a billionaire, a fake diamond ring and a deep family secret.

The holiday season has always been magical for me, especially at my toy store. Tucker Toys is a New York institution, where every twinkling light and festive melody brings joy to children and families alike.

But my landlord, the notorious grumpy billionaire Alexander Jackson, has increased the rent to a level that’s crippling. I now understand why they nickname him Scrooge, because my family is facing financial ruin and he doesn’t care. Not one bit.

But then Alexander presents me with an offer I can’t refuse: be his fake fiancée for the season, and he’ll let me keep my store. I’m skeptical, but desperate times call for desperate measures and I owe it to my family.

What starts as a business arrangement quickly becomes something more. Alexander's touch is electric, and his kisses are dangerously real. As we navigate this pretend engagement amidst the holiday chaos and increased media scrutiny, I can’t ignore the growing feelings that blur the lines between make-believe and reality.

This Christmas was destined to destroy me, but I might find that the greatest gift isn’t saving my store, but discovering a love that feels as magical as the season itself.

Scrooge💰💰🌲🌲

Scrooge is a Christmas story about Alex and Haylee. Haylee works and runs her family business of Tucker Toys with her sister, mom and dad. When an increase in rent threatens their livelihood and business, the sisters decide to take action. Haylee accidentally meets the new billionaire who owns their building and soon finds herself thrown into an agreement which will save the family business🙌

Though the more time that Alex and Haylee throw into their “fake” relationship, the more it starts to feel real😍 I loved this concept of a Scrooge being unravelled by the heroine, who is also selfless and thoughtful and graceful…such a wonderful feel good read and story - honestly sorry that it finished as I’d love to read more about this couple.

I received an advanced copy and willingly leave my honest review💛

Review of Scrooge by Samantha Skye

I was so amazingly lucky to get a physical copy of this fabulous holiday billionaire romance from the gorgeous author herself. 5 stars and a big bag of d***s!

Haylee's family has hit a major dilemma. When the store's owner dies, his rich and powerful son increases the price on the building to the point her family would lose everything.
Not if she has anything to say about it.
It is by a twist of fate that she bumps into the very Scrooge himself.
Alex is all about business, work and money. After his father died, his goal is to make his father's business better. More profittable, really. However, that goal has also earned him a title and an image that is not well received by those around him. Pushed to change his image, all it takes is one young woman and an agreement.
It was all meant to be fake, but this holiday season is about to become the best Christmas Alex and Haylee have ever had.

Loved it! Our Scrooge opens up his heart to love, friendship, family and charitability. With Haylee guiding him, he does things he would never had dreamed of, sees how luck he is compared to others, and takes his own steps to helping out his fellow man. Poor Alex is just so closed off from his lack of a maternal figure, a workaholic of a father, no siblings and one idiot I wouldn't even consider a friend.
Haylee is a woman that shuns the faceless empty cold world that New York is becoming. She believes in heart and hard work and compassion. She takes time with people, treats those around her with care, and is not a push over. She's already had someone beat her down before, and she damn well ain't going to let that happen again. Hella strong woman!
Persuing career dreams, expanding your comfort circle, letting those into your heart, hitting a-holes who deserve it, man flu, shiny shoes and the best present ever!

I love reading Samantha Skye's books, and with this novella, she delivers the perfect Christmas love story.

Alex is your typical playboy. At least on the outside. On the inside, he struggles with depression after his father's death. He took over his father's company and started making changes. Sadly, those changes didn't help his employees; it only made their lives more difficult. Soon after that, his image is kind of ruined, and according to his advisors, he needs to do some drastic changes. A couple of chance meetings with Haylee gives him the perfect solution.

Haylee works for her family business "Tucker Toys" her whole life. Their whole life work is threatened when Alex's company raises their rent (after his father's death). If they don't do something, they won't be able to pay the rent, and the space for the shop will be sold. Her and Alex's first meeting is hilarious and funny. None of them knew who the other was. They keep meeting in strange places, and soon after that they realize who the other is. Surprisingly, Alex offers her the perfect solution that works in favor of them both: Haylee has to be his fake fiance for a while in order for him to clean his image, and she will be able to help her family's company. None of them is ready for this, but in the spirit of Christmas, wonderful things happen.

Through all of that pretending, Haylee manages to show Alex how his life could be different. How much better it can be when he allows love in his life. She makes him see that not everything is black and white, and when you add color to it, he can love and be loved. Most importantly, he deserves it all. She literally changed his life and became his true love.

He, on the other hand, gives her hope that true love does exist. With him, she realized that not every man is bad, and when you find the right one, you just go for it. Alex was that guy, and with his love and support, she could do everything. One thing is certain: these two needed each other in their lives.

This book kind of reminds me of "You've Got Mail" with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, which made me love Alex and Haylee's story even more.

Let me start by saying I am not a huge fan of billionaire romances and I somehow managed to pick three in a row in the month of December (I guess that's what happens when I don't always read the blurb before starting a new book). As a result, I was worn out on this trope, so it took me a while to get into this one, but it was by no means the fault of this particular author or book (I also should have guessed with a title such as 𝑆𝑐𝑟𝑜𝑜𝑔𝑒 there might be a rich guy somewhere in there).

All that being said, I did enjoy this book once I was introduced to the characters. The female protagonist is not your standard stick-figure and mentions her "muffin top" a couple times in the book (always with self-love and never with shame), which I absolutely celebrate. But for someone who is often described as confident and stands up for herself, Haylee also blames herself . . . a lot. A few times, especially toward the end of the book, it felt unreasonably so, to the point that it was rather contradictory with who she was supposed to be.

***(Some spoilers follow!)***

In the Dark Night of the Soul beat where Haylee meets Alex's best friend, Logan, who then reveals his creep of a personality to her, I started to pump the brakes a bit. We had only met Logan once earlier in the book and then he's mentioned offhandedly here and there, but never really developed until this scene. Especially given that the perfect villain for this scene was already established via Haylee's abusive ex, Jaryd, I felt like Logan was an unnecessary vehicle for this part of the story. Her willingness to believe all Logan says and walk away without a word to Alex rather than telling him what Logan said to her was another part that just didn't line up for me.

Finally, there were a few minor threads that were forgotten (like how Alex gifts her a puppy at the end of the book, but she had mentioned that the reason she never had one was because her dad was allergic—who happens to be spending Christmas in the same house as them) and others that were more major or weren't utilized to their full potential (like the threat of her abusive ex, Jaryd).

Overall, I really enjoyed the bulk of the story, but the ending felt forced, like it didn't meet its full potential.

Sometimes freebies just come at the right time, and so did this one 😍
The book was just free, and I just happened to have read all my Christmas books from my TBR and was "available" for another one 😁

This book is definitely the typical cliché Hallmark Christmas billionaire book, and I love that 😍

Haylee was definitely not looking for a new relationship, not after what happened with her ex 🤬 Holy 💩 And the audacity this 🤬🤬🤬 has. I really don't know what to say without getting banned for what I want him to happen 🤬 But at the minimum 🍆✂️🔪 I think you understand 😉

But one thing is for sure, I'm not the only one who would have loved to ☠️ him. Who would have guessed that Alex would turn into such a man? Definitely not me. At least not at the beginning. He really is the typical billionaire you know from real life 🤬 (I've never used this one emoji that often in one single review 🙈). OK, maybe not completely like real-life billionaires, but a lot. I mean, who thinks "I pay enough taxes so there can't be real poverty? Homeless ppl just need to go to a shelter and get everything...". Sorry, guy, but that's not how this works 😔

But you know what? He just needed the right woman to shake him and see the real world 😁

This book is a must-read for everyone just right now, for Christmas time 🩷 As long as you love Hallmark Christmas movies 😎

What a treat this was! I normally dont get into the holiday spirit until (reading goes) until after spooky season, but honestly this book was what I needed! Alexandra and Halee were complete Opposites. Alexander was hard and cold and Halee was soft and warm. Watch Alexander learn and observe not only Halee but her family as well. Proving kindness and empathy goes a long way in healing yourself but also healing others. Samantha Skye really packed a punch in this holiday novel. Such a great fun and easy read. I received this as a free ARC in exchange for an honest review. I do follow and enjoy Samantha Skye as an author. I want to make sure I state that before I start the review.

As per usual, I was sucked into the story and couldn't stop until I was completely finished with "Scrooged". I'm always transported to the scene as if I have been there (I actually have been to NYC). This story follows Alexander after the death of his father. He is a broken shell of who he was, allowing depression to take hold. It's the holiday season so everyone is in good spirits. Not Alex! Haylee is the opposite. She is coming back into her own after a traumatic experience. Life is looking up! And when she bumps into a Scrooge in the middle of the holiday season, will sparks fly? It's a great story. I highly recommend this book. If you love the holidays, love stories, a great read, a little emotional drama, the perfect story, a great author who offers you an adventure, READ THIS BOOK!

Loving Scrooge . . .

Haylee Tucker has always loved the holiday season where she takes joy in seeing the children delighted by her toy store, Tucker Toys. But this year, things are looking grim when the grumpy landlord, Alexander Jackson, decides to raise the rent to an impossible high. Alexander needs to work on fixing his reputation, however, so he gives Haylee an option. If she will be his fake fiancée for the season, she won’t have to lose her toy store. Will their proximity begin to awaken feelings for each other? Will they find a HEA together this Christmas? Or was this simply a short-term business agreement and nothing more?

the blurb sounded like the genre

It’s a great pity this book with its catching Christmas colours and enticing blurb didn’t fulfil its promises.
Instead this book ( well I only read two pages, but one can easily extrapolate going forward) contains the use of women as bed warmers, other crudeness and the vulgar ‘F’ word.
I am definitely not recommending this book.
Women like to be respected. It’s a pity I can’t post this review with zero stars!

Samantha has gone and done it again! I seriously love everything about her books, this one is no exception!

This is like a classic Christmas movie you would see (I hope it becomes one) where 2 of the total opposite worlds collide and become one! The struggles are realistic that you can feel them! The set up of the story lines is beautiful. One of my FAVOURITE parts about this book is how she incorporated someone from the past! I love that as then you understand some of the way they are!

The characters are very diverse , and well rounded. She sets their personalities front and center right from the beginning so you’re not guessing what they are like! I love how she built the family dynamic, the helping the homeless(I laughed so hard at one part) and how sometimes it’s the little things in life that we need to cherish! I wish there was more of a skating , round the tree etc for where it was set up , but honestly I can’t give this book a bad review ! It’s exactly what I expected!

My only thing about this book is if you have read her previous books , don’t expect the on the seat of your pants kinda read , this is a read like you just watched a movie on hallmark, romantic and cozy!.

This is a Billionaire Standalone Christmas Book and it is Alexander and Haylee’s story and omg it is definitely a must read. When Alexander’s father died it left him all alone so now all he does is work and make himself even more wealthy than ever with no regards whatsoever to anyone else or who he put out of business and that is how he got his name Scrooge because he got what he wanted regardless of the consequences, situation or who he hurt to get there. Haylee, her sister and parents have worked hard together at their family toy shop for years which was their legacy and now it was being threatened by Alexander who had raised their rent to force them out of business so that he can knock the building down and build his high rise buildings but Haylee is not ready to give up and will do everything possible to make him see reason. Alexander didn’t do relationships of any kind in fact he was a real playboy which suited him just fine but now his one night stands were now causing him problems. Haylee hadn’t dated for a long time after her last boyfriend was totally abusive in every way possible so now dating didn’t hold any joy for her anymore and trust is a really big issue so she just concentrated on trying to save their toy shop while hoping that she would eventually succeed. When Alexander and Haylee meet for the first time things don’t go well at all but when they meet again it is suggested that it is within there best interests to have a fake relationship so that it helps Alexander with his image and also help Haylee to keep the toy shop that is so important to her and her family but the more time that they spend together lines start to blur and fake starts to feel very real but neither are prepared to admit how they feel or will they carry on and eventually miss out on a special bond and future together that they both want but communication and being vulnerable is something that neither are used to. Alexander and Haylee are so perfect for each other and together and even though they have many ups and downs along the way and it is not plain sailing but they just complete and compliment each other in every single way and Haylee brings out a side of Alexander that he never really knew that he had and it was a really beautiful thing to see him grow and become the man that was just so special. I really love this book so much with all it’s complications, inspirational, emotions, surprises, hope, family and above all a love that grows stronger every day. Samantha Skye is an amazing author and writer and she certainly knows how to keep her readers engaged throughout the whole book and I couldn’t put it down and can’t wait to read more books in the future.

Yes, I’m reading Christmas books after Christmas. To me, it’s still the end of December and I’m not ready to say goodbye yet. Plus, it still feels appropriate to read about Christmas in December. I discovered this book in one of my subscription emails and was drawn to the storyline. After reading high energy and intense stories, I wanted to wind down this year with Christmas books and back to my regular trope without any danger or combat. This one did just that and while it is a slow burn story, it makes up for it when Alex and Haylee finally realize their feelings are mutual and keep growing until it explodes and they can’t keep their hands off each other. I thoroughly enjoyed this book, more than I thought I would and normally I don’t rate books like this as high, but this one shattered my expectations and I couldn’t put it down. I kept reading chapter after chapter. Perhaps the most surprising thing of all was the fact that I really enjoyed a book with a slow burn. Normally I don’t like slow burns, in fact I strongly dislike them but for whatever reason this one didn’t bother me. It was wholesome without being too innocent, had enough innuendo and passion that I was satisfied with how everything played out. Plus, the tender and intense moments between Alex and Haylee were fire. The shoe dropping moment that I thought would happen did, and not by who I thought. Instead, it was done by a side character that I didn’t see coming and the events that happened after that. Luckily, Alex and Haylee weren’t apart for long, and I really appreciated that. Sometimes books drag it out just for the sake of pissing off the reader and this one didn’t do it. It was used as more of an ah ha moment and fear of losing everything. Then, once the issue was resolved and cleared up, they didn’t let each other go. It was very enjoyable and I loved reading about how Alex was slowly revealing his tender side as he got to know Haylee. This was a first time when their fake relationship consisted of them really getting to know each other and I liked how they took an interest in each other. With contract stories, this part doesn’t usually happen until almost the end or somewhere in the middle. I’m happy I chose to read this book and picked it up. I have a couple Samantha Skye books shelved that I want to read after this, also ones that I discovered in my emails and at the end of this book.

Samantha you had my heart MELTING!!! This was a BEAUTIFUL redemption story! I was hooked from the first page and didn't want to stop reading this book but work and life made me have to stop but every time I did I couldn't stop thinking about what was going to happen next. These characters were well written and you couldn't help but feel every emotion they were feeling!

Alexander "Scrooge" is a billionaire that only cares about making more money. Since he doesn't really have anyone he just wants to work hard and doesn't care what happens to others. Until one night a women stumbles into him having a seizure (so he thinks..LOL) she calls him a dickwad and he knew his life was never going to be the same.

Haylee was such an AMAZING character! I fell in love with her right away. She is so sweet and loves her family with everything she has and it's so beautiful. She works at the toy store her family owns. She loves the history of this story and being around all the kids. Then one day they find out that the landlord who is a grumpy billionaire is raising their rent and they won't be able to keep the store. One day he stops by the store though and makes her an offer she can't refuse. See these Scrooge needs to make his image look better so he needs to have a fake fiancée so if she's willing to sign a contract to be his fiancé then he will keep their rent the same as before for two years. Of course she jumps at that options. At what price does it cost though in the end.

This was truly a masterpiece for me! I just loved Alex and Haylee. I loved how she peeled back his layers. They both had some emotional moments that they will go through together and that's a beautiful thing to read. I also loved her best friends Deloris! She is a HOOT!!! Just give me my bag of ????? (Read this book to find out what it is!!!) I also loved getting to know her family as well. They had such a great bond. This story will have you laughing, swooning, smiling like a kid, I had a few giddy moments, blushing and in the end you will be left with such a BEAUTIFUL ending!! I'm still smiling while I'm typing this! I HIGHLY recommend this book! I can't wait to see what's next.

Thank you Samantha Skye for allowing me to read this ARC for my honest opinion.

Samantha Skye delivers the perfect festive read in Scrooge: A Billionaire Christmas Story, a novella that proves even the grumpiest heart can be melted by holiday magic.

For Haylee Tucker, the Christmas season is a magical time spent at her family's New York institution, Tucker Toys. But this year, her joy is threatened by her notorious landlord, the billionaire Alexander Jackson. Nicknamed "Scrooge," Alex has cripplingly increased the rent, pushing Haylee’s family toward financial ruin without a single care. Yet, following a series of hilarious chance meetings, Alexander, struggling with depression and a tarnished public image after his father's death, presents Haylee with a shocking solution: become his fake fiancée for the holiday season, and she can keep her beloved store.

What begins as a skeptical business arrangement quickly becomes a delicious entanglement. Neither is ready for the intense chemistry, but Alexander's electric touch and dangerously real kisses blur the lines of their pretend engagement. As they navigate the holiday chaos and intense media scrutiny, Haylee works her magic. She sees beyond the Playboy facade and the "Scrooge" reputation, showing Alex how much better his life could be when he allows love and color into his black-and-white world. She helps him realize he deserves to love and be loved.

In turn, Alexander’s love and support give Haylee hope, proving that true love exists and that she deserves a partner who uplifts her. They are two broken souls who desperately needed each other, and through all the pretending, they find a connection that feels as magical as the season itself. Though this Christmas was set to destroy her, Haylee discovers the greatest gift isn't saving her store, but finding an absolutely genuine love. I highly recommend the story for anyone who loves holidays, a great love story, a little emotional drama, and an author who transports you right to the heart of New York City for an unforgettable adventure.

Samantha always delivers, and this Christmas offering is no exception. Scrooge packs a punch with typically delicious spicy egg nog goodness and heavy topics that have those heart strings well and truly pulled. The FMC has a trope I felt deeply, as this had been me too, but Samantha delivered it with such respect and it added to the perfect storyline of these two.

Our Scrooge, the grump is Alexander (Alex) who leads the helm at his Fathers company after his recent passing. He sadly goes thru life more focussed on the making of money, and standing on those who he chooses not to see, as this is how his life always has been. So, he is completely blinded by the Sunflower Sunshiny Goodness of Haylee.

Haylee works in the family business, Tuckers Toys, which is slowly being taken over by dull, lifeless skyscrapers, courtesy of said Scrooge. Alex has had his financial team raise the rents on those businesses he owns, bringing them into market value line, which is set to cripple this beloved business. After a laugh out loud meeting of these two (which I seriously did and struggled to stop), she is persuaded to talk to Alex to see if he will listen to reason. In the meantime, Alex's PR Team are trying to highlight Alex in a more positive light and suggest a relationship, rather than the playboy life he currently leads. Well, let's say, two birds one stone?

Their relationship just grows from strength to strength, as Haylee shows Scrooge her version of Christmas Past and Present, and what an amazing future would look like. Absolutely loved everything about this book, and there is a certain furry friend that has the most perfect cameo. IYKYK. I love your writing, Samantha, Christmas Perfection.

Haylee (with two ee’s) is a spunky, sassy sunshine. She loves helping out at her parents’ toy store with her sister as helping the less fortunate. She has a passion for painting and has a strong sense of self. While she might’ve had some rough experiences, Haylee stands strong, putting others before herself, and is someone you want having your back.

Alex is a successful businessman. He might appear cut throat and buried in work, but beneath that he is a warm and kind person, standing for what is right and doing what it takes to make things better. He is smart and resourceful and someone you can depend on.

These two! They definitely have a memorable “meet-cute” that sets off a chain of events. Haylee brightens up Alex’s day with her cheery smile, steadfast determination and causes him to change perspectives on certain things. He realizes he cannot be without her. In turn Alex is someone that brings safety and comfort to Haylee and one of her biggest supporters. He pays attention to the details and often proves he cares about her well-being and really sees her. The two of them have witty banter and an easy presence with each other. You definitely cheer them on!

Moreover I love that we got some Easter eggs from across the author’s other works and a personal piece. We also get some conflicts that push our characters but the author never fails to impress us with how these are integrated and how they help our couple’s relation evolve.

Overall, this was a fantastic read and perfect for the upcoming holidays (but I’d read it any time of the year!!).

I really loved reading 'Scrooge' by Samantha Skye because this was storytelling at its best. The story is entertaining from the beginning to the end. It involved a wealthy businessman and a woman who was the daughter of a family that owned a toy store. They met because the man was about to raise the rent on the toy store which would have been too much for them to afford. But there was something about Haylee Tucker that fascinated Alexander Jackson, and he devised a plan to help them both. He was known to be cold-hearted and emotionally vacant and his PR staff suggested that he needed to find a girlfriend and be more charitable to make himself more likeable to public opinion. When he first unexpectedly met Haylee, he liked the fact that she stood up to him and talked back. When she went to his office after she found out that he was the owner of their building and wanted to discuss the rent, he surprised her with a plan that would help them both. He would keep the rent as it was if she would pretend to be his fiancé just until after Christmas. He had the nickname "Scrooge" given to him by the media and thought that she might help him repair his image. He could see that she was not impressed with his wealth or status and spoke her mind. Haylee agreed and they began to go out in public together. Soon with Haylee's help he began to see life from her perspective and his frozen heart began to thaw. It is such a good story.

I enjoyed this fun grumpy/sunshine Christmas themed story. The Scrooge in this book was Alexander, the billionaire landlord, who raised the rent for all of the properties he inherited upon his father’s death. The huge increase in rent would be devastating for Haylee’s family business, a neighborhood toy store. Alexander offered Haylee a deal in lieu of the rent increase for two years. He wanted Haylee to pose as his fake fiancé to help him improve his poor reputation. While the theme of the book was Christmas, the celebration of Thanksgiving was significant and integral to the story too, because that is when the ice around this story’s grinch’s heart started to melt.

The book was well-written with an interesting plot, good pacing, good character development, and world building. There are some seriously funny moments in the story, along with some serious social issues. A perfect blending was when Alexander walked to the park to sit on “his bench” but found Haylee sitting there watching a homeless woman named Deloris digging through trash. While being homeless isn’t funny, the scene the author wrote about Deloris finding something in the garbage can she was digging in was truly memorable and had me about falling out of my chair laughing. You must read this book to find out! Deloris was my favorite character. This book is definitely on my “I’M SO GLAD I READ IT” list. The perfect holiday read.

A perfect feel-good festive story that begins with a bah humbug from it’s Ebenezer Scrooge like hero, billionaire Alex, a man with his eye so glued to his company’s bottom line he’d have his staff working Christmas day if he thought he’d get away with it. One of his tasks after taking over his father’s business was to increase the rent of a small family run toy store leaving the owners with no choice but to make this their last Christmas but when Alex’s cutthroat business methods begins to have an impact on his reputation and business he somehow ends up convincing their daughter Haylee to fake date him to improve his public image and in return he’ll keep the rent at an affordable level.

I loved Alex and Haylee together. They had fantastic chemistry but more than that, Haylee made Alex look at his life and smell the sunflowers, she made him want to be a better man while in return he made it possible for her to follow her dreams. The secondary characters were all well rounded, bringing something to the story and I loved that there had been a connection between the two families. Scrooge was the perfect grumpy/sunshine romance for the upcoming silly season, fun and heartwarming but with a healthy sprinkling of drama to stop it from falling into Hallmark territory. With a large spoonful of humour provided by Deloris and her bag of dicks to bring the Ho Ho Ho, Scrooge was the perfect Christmas recipe.

This is a story about Alex and Haylee. Haylee and her family own a well known and loved toy store. When we open the story we hear that the rent on the store was raised to such an extent that within a couple of months they will have to shut down forever.

Alex has recently taken over Jackson Enterprises from his father who has recently passed. The one thing that he learned and wants to do to. is to live up to his father's legacy and make his father proud. The goal is to ensure that the business grew and to make money at the expense of all else. Alex did not have a lot of love growing up as he was driven to take over the family business at all costs. This made Alex a grump who was cold and ruthless.

Alex bumps into Haylee as she comes out of the store to look at the new layout she did in the window for the holidays. There begins a story of a ruthless man who starts to see the possibilities in things instead of dollars and cents that Haylee exposes him to.

Bit by bit Alex realizes that the path that he is following is not the one he wants to be remembered by. The frozen man starts to thaw and we see the humanity under the ruthless man from the beginning. What a wonderful story I really loved how this was told. It is not your typical Scrooge who looks at past-present-future, but is modernized to bring the reader warmth and love for these two characters.

This was the perfect book to start off the holiday season! Haylee and her family try to bring cheer and joy to all the children of New York with their family store, Tucker Toys. With the holidays approaching they are gearing up for the busiest time of year. While everything is going good, a certain scrooge rolls in and raises the rent on the toy store building. Causing the Tucker family to have to make some difficult decisions about the future of their store.
Alex is taking over his family's business after his father's death and he is ruthless about it. Wanting to make money and not spend it, Alex is making cuts and and raising costs for his own monetary gain. Not thinking about his employees or the people that his decisions affect, Alex raises the rent on Tucker Toys and doesn't care about the repercussions.
After Haylee makes an unforgettable introduction to Alex and wants him to lower the rent, this starts the journey of their relationship.
With Alex trying to stay firm in his scrooge-like attitude and Haylee trying to bring the Christmas cheer to Alex's life, this story has all kinds of hilarious moments and moments that will jerk some tears from you. While this is a holiday romance, there is also an underlying suspense throughout the book as well. This was such an amazing story and I cannot wait for then next book from Samantha!!

💚 Christmas Romance

❤️ Fake Fiancé

✨️ 📚 ARC 📖 REVIEW ✨️

Haylee accidentally meets Alexander the "Playboy", and realizes that they both have things that each other could benefit from in having a fake relationship. Haylee needs to save her family's toy company that she shares with her sister, and Alexander needs to rebuild his reputation that has been tarnished. It was a win-win for both of them.

Alexander was cold and hard, like Scrooge. Haylee was warm, inviting and a caring person in general. With those traits she was able to take Alexander from Scrooge to a completely different person. Alexander learned from watching Halee and her family how to be kind and have empathy. Scrooge was slowly being unraveled by Haylee. Haylee did so much for Alexander even though he did for her as well. But I think Haylee did more for him than he was ever expecting to get out of everything. Having empathy and being kind goes a long way to heal yourself and others.

Alexander gives Haylee the hope that true love does exist, and not every man she meets isn't the worst guy.

This definitely gave me some You've Got Mail vibes but make him a Billionaire! I absolutely love that movie and the premise behind it!

Eeekk, I absolutely ate this one up. Another cute and heartwarming Christmas story. Retelling of Scrooge.
Alexandra was definitely the Scrooge. He wants to be more rich, make his dad proud with his success. He thinks that requires to be tight with budget, cuts and make more buildings. You can tell he was grieving his father's death and the man didn't know how to smile. Now staff are leaving, he is on the verge of losing contracts and small businesses are closing due to high demand on rent.
He may be good looking and fit but that won't be enough to save his reputation. Already being called Scrooge.
Haylee is fierce, strong, compassionate and is a great closet artist. Despite being broken by her ex she still smiles at the world and is jut a ray off sunshine. So her nickname Sunshine fits.
Now Alex is the reason her family business could be done permanently.
I just loved the way these two clashed yet connected in a beautiful way.
Soon Alex knows helping others and cracking a smile is a beautiful thing.
I really enjoyed how his character gradually became the happy, living and giving. It seems, he was always wonderful just needed the right woman to unlock him.
Full of magical moments, fun, witty banter, found family, some drama and hot Spice.
I loved the scene with her neice and nephew, it was so funny.

“You were mine the minute you called me a d1ckwad,”

“I feel like I have waited a lifetime for you.”

I loved this book. Was it cliche? Yes, but it was such a feel good story. Samantha always writes of strong men and women that bring out the best in each other and this was just that. Haylee is a tough cookie and doesn’t take any nonsense from the good looking grump that she bumps into outside the family toy store. She has no idea that this is her new landlord that is trying to push them out by increasing their rent beyond their means. When her sister insists she apologize, she gets creative and decides to take him Sunflowers. Little did she know that this would be their beginning. Alexander has lead a very sheltered life in terms of the general population. He has no idea what homelessness is about, and what families really do. Haylee brings him into that world one step at a time. Alexander knows nothing about Haylee’s ex and a chance encounter pushes him to realize how he really feels about her. Running off to the Hamptons when the media gets to be too much, Alexander is suddenly confronted with his grief over his fathers passing and starts to find evidence that the relationship with Tucker Toys might be something more that just a landlord tenant agreement. As Alexander watches he sees that Haylee never wavers from her treatment of the people she meets and Alexander starts to change from the Scrooge to a down to earth caring person. Wonderful christmas tale reimagined.

Scrooge is a standalone contemporary Christmas romance novel by Samantha Skye. This is a heartwarming romance, that has the premise and drama to be like one of those romantic Christmas movies that I'm obsessed with watching every year.

For those familiar with Skye's writing, you will recognise her winning formula of a billionaire (sometimes grumpy) and an equally as assertive and strong willed woman who is more community minded than her absurdly wealthy counterpart.

In this story, Haylee. whose parents own and run a local New York institution - Tucker Toys, is ready to go in fighting with their landlord when rents are raised to an obscene price. She just didn't expect that she would end up in a fake engagement after a rocky at only the start of their acquaintance. Alexander is the billionaire businessman who is Haylee's parent's landlord. To him it's just business, so he didn't know what to think when Haylee crashed into his life. I found it interesting getting to know Haylee and Alexander, I feel that they are two sides of the same coin and genuinely enjoyed their story arc, as well as their character development. They both had a lot of growing to do in the course of this novel.

Sweet and lighthearted. A perfectly wonderful Christmas romance.

This book was honestly so cute. I didn’t know what to expect because I’ve never read anything from this author before. But it truly exceeded my expectations.

It reminded me so much of a cute and cozy Hallmark movie. Alex is your grumpy CEO with a cold heart and Haylee is the sunshine toy store owner who to defrosts his heart one chapter at a time.

I truly had such a wonderful time reading this. I loved the fact that we got an insight to Haylee’s family and Alex’s relationship with his dad. Each of these characters slowly lowered the walls of one another until they were in love.

Not only was this book a gooey cutest cookie, but it was also hilarious. Every time Delores was on the page, I laughed out loud. My absolute favorite scene of hers was when she found a special surprise. I haven’t laughed from a book like that in a while. This book also tackled difficult topics, such as; grief, death of a family member (before the book starts), domestic violence, and poverty to name a few. But I think Samantha Skye did this very eloquently.

The only thing that slightly irked me was that it could be repetitive at times.

So, if you’re in the mood for a cutesy, cozy Hallmark movie in book form, definitely pick up Scrooge for this holiday season.

HAPPY READINGS!!!.
