This is the same book, but a fun new look for book 1, Montana Fire, in the Small Town Romance series.
From USA Today Bestselling Author Vanessa Vale comes a laugh-out-loud small town, romantic comedy.
Life goes from simple to complicated for a wrung out single mom when a Grade-A, smoking hot firefighter moves in down the street.
Things get a little exciting, and not in the good, panty-melting sort of way. Not only does someone want her dead (seriously), she has to wrangle her out-of-control desires where the new neighbor is concerned and convince her meddling boss at the small town's only adult toy store to leave the new hose-wielding hottie off her matchmaking radar.
But it's not all chaos and pancakes. There's Ty. And his smoking hot body. Smoking hot kisses. He's burning the walls around her heart to nothing but ash. And she just might be falling in love...if she can stay alive long enough.
A USA Today bestseller, Vanessa Vale has written over 100 cowboy and small town romances. She lives in the American West where she's always finding inspiration for her next story.

This had a strong start and I was seriously loving the hot fireman, Ty, who was hitting on the single mum. Unfortunately, what it had in character charm, it lost in plot points. This book is unbelievably farfetched and predictable. The FMC's children are there in the background purely as a ploy to make her the 'single mum' trope. There is no question from Page 1 that Ty and Jane will end up together.
Speaking of Jane, can we just be honest and acknowledge that if the MMC acted the way she does in the novel (cue, going on a date with another man and kissing him), we would be lighting the pitchforks but this is barely mentioned in this novel? I hate double standards and her constant pushiness that she needed to follow up with everything herself instead of acknowledging she had a shit-ton of dangerous stuff happening to her and more is going on.
I love a hot-fireman romance more than anyone but this was a bust.
I really wanted to like this book- I didn’t even read the back. I saw single-mom and was sold…bad move. This book was ALL over the place and there didn’t seem to be any real structure to it. I did enjoy the characters but that was about it.
This book was an absolute WILD RIDE from start to finish. Jane, a widowed, almost-divorced, mother of two, who works in her small town’s local sex shop (owned by her late husband’s mother) is such a character. The evil gnome to smuggled horse sperm to meth lab pipeline was INSANE LOL (can’t believe that’s a real sentence). This book was truly just so funny and hysterical. Definitely not like, classic literature, but highly entertaining and full of laughs.
This was a super quick read!! Mystery sub-plot, but I do feel like some romance took a back burner when it came to the drive force of the “mystery”! (Someone is trying to kill her okay?) I wish there was more BANGING!!! 🍆 🏒
🩷 single mom 🩷 firefighter/ex military MMC 🩷 stalker/attempted murder mystery 🩷 forced proximity 🩷 flirty banter 🩷 sex positive 🩷 protective and a dash possessive MMC
"Mr. fireman. And me. And dildo display makes three."
So tone is set for rip roaring laughter, hilarious banter and the most awkwardly inappropriate heroine I've ever read in a long time. So we know Jane west sells dildos from adult shop-Goldilocks in Bozeman Montana. Apparently this mountain town also produces hot, sexy firefighters who just happen to be her neighbour. Ty Strickland has Aa pole Jane wants to slide on down on.
This Magnet-For-Disaster keeps falling in traps, he keeps saving her. From a runaway car in rodeo, convenience store robbery or a house explosion. He braves flying refrigerators to Bull semen in gnomes (don't ask, just read it) Montana is home to cows birthing triplets in DD ranch owned by Drake Dexter, a sleazy but OH-SO-HOT cowboy. So Jane has her panties melting twice.
“That’s one handsome cowboy. He melts my butter.” I had to admit he was handsome, but butter? He more like curdled my milk.
But seeing a horse mounting and humping a Phantom Mare gives her the icky creeps, so that's what Dex's plans are for her!! Oh My!!!! Things go awry when a thief is fed to the pigs (don't ask, JUST READ) and meth is found in his.....whatever is leftover. So now Bozeman has TWO problems. Drugs and Bull Semen theft Oh my lawd I laughed so hard, I may have peed a little in my pants. My first by Vanessa and I'm already downloading more. Her books remind me of Lucy Score feels. Great comedies with amazing story plot. Side characters like MIL Goldie-the-Meddler & Kelly the seven kids mommy made the story all the more interesting. The misadventures of a Single Mom is a unique story that unfolds in a one-of-a-kind setting. It follows Jane West, a widow with two small boys. Jane's husband, Nate, was involved in a surprising situation, having an affair with a woman from Germany and her husband; he died with them in their bed. Nate's sudden death was attributed to a blood clot in his lung. At the time, Jane was pregnant with their youngest son and was planning on divorcing him. However, his death before she could serve him papers left her in the unexpected and challenging role of a grieving widow. Jane works for her mother-in-law, Goldie, who owns an adult toy shop. In this unconventional workplace, Jane's life turns when a smoking hot firefighter enters the store while she is explaining the difference between the most popular female toys to a female customer. She meets the same firefighter with her two sons at the firehouse pancake breakfast. Tyler Strickland, firefighter, and new neighbor, has met both boys and the Colonel. The Colonel is a friend who lives next door, helps out with the boys, and is dating Jane's mom, Olivia Reed. This story takes on an exciting twist when, at a garage sale, her boys each find a garden gnome and bring it home. Strangers are in her backyard, on her porch, looking for something, and when she catches someone taking something off her front steps, she chases them, and they drop the gnome.
This story is unexpectedly hilarious. The hijinks and situations that Jane finds herself in are one for the books. I had yet to learn that Vanessa Vale wrote rom-coms, and I will be reading more of her work.
Vanessa Vale's "Misadventures of a Single Mom" offers a delightful blend of humor, suspense, and sizzling romance set in the charm of small-town Montana. Jane West is a relatable single mom who finds her mundane life turned upside down by the arrival of Ty Strickland, her irresistibly handsome new neighbor who happens to be a firefighter.
The chemistry between Jane and Ty is electric, making their blossoming romance a joy to follow. Vale masterfully balances lighthearted moments—like Jane's quirky boss at the adult toy store—with the darker mystery of someone targeting Jane. This keeps the narrative engaging and full of twists.
Ty is not just a swoon-worthy hero but also genuinely supportive, making him a refreshing romantic lead. Meanwhile, Jane's mix of vulnerability and strength as she navigates danger and new love adds depth to her character.
Perfect for fans of steamy small-town romances with a dash of suspense, this book is a fun and fiery start to the Big Sky Boyfriends series. If you’re looking for a story that will make you laugh, swoon, and bite your nails, this one’s worth the read!
As soon as Ty and Jane’s eyes meet something ‘zings’ between them but meeting in an adult toy store where Jane is explaining the finer details of a certain kind of adult toy to a customer makes their meet cute quite interesting.
Jane is a widow with two young boys and an interesting job working in her mother-in-laws adult toy store. Firefighter Ty just moved in two doors down and although he’s definitely interested in Jane, he isn’t interested in anything that remotely resembles a relationship. Yet, it seems Jane and her two rambunctious sons find a way to quickly work themselves into his life. When dangerous events seem centered around Jane, Ty does everything he can to keep her safe until a wildfire calls him away.
This book had my full attention until the last chapter when it seemed the author couldn’t come up with a plausible way for Jane and Ty’s relationship to go sideways before bringing them back together again. If Ty had been the man I loved his unexpected actions would have needed a far better explanation.
I wanted to like it, I really did. The first 1/4 (maybe) was really good. But it was terrible, the only reason I even finished was because there were so many crazy things happening that I needed to know how it ended.
Also I felt like there were too many crazy things happening all at once. I don’t know, the plot doesn’t really match the description of the book in my opinion.
And Ty? He was terrible. He needs to make up his mind. He’s so hot and cold and can’t make up his mind. And I’m sorry, you’re in love after like 5 minutes and one night spent together? He’s literally been a jerk up until they bang it out in the kitchen. There was literally no character development of their relationship. I feel like maybe if the story had been told from his point of view in some parts it would have made the book a lot better.
Nothing about this book screams romantic comedy lol there is no romance involved.

I wanted to read another book after really enjoying Hannah and the Hitman and in the beginning, I was really enjoying the story! Jane and Ty were fun, her kids were realistic and not plot-moppets, and the secondary characters (mostly) felt like real people you could meet in small-town America. And then A great first half does not round up to a great book unfortunately...
Great read that had it all, I really enjoyed the story. Jane is technically a widow but her husband was a cheater and they were separated when he died in bed with another couple. She lived for her two boys and worked for her mother in law in a sex shop, that sound exciting but her life was mundane until her boys bought a pair of tnomes at a garage sale and she met a new neighbour /firefighter Ty. Ty was ex military and didn’t want to loose more people close to him and Jane seemed a magnet for drama so he tried to stay away but failed each time. I loved the romance that grew between them and the tension involving Dex. ( no spoilers ) A great humorous suspense love that gave you lots of feels, just a fab story to start a new series
This is a fun new series by Vale. Jane is a strong single mom who seems to have gotten into a pickle investigating her sons’ new garden gnomes. Ty is the attractive new neighbor. Perfect amount of mystery, chemistry, banter. The supporting characters are great! Definitely would read more of this series
Shocking in a way to either make you curious or dissuades you from the book at the beginning. The intensity increases over the course of the story in ways that accidents are actually on purpose and a risk for the mom as a target trying to get rid of her for correlating some issues. Jane and Ty are a cute combination but certainly went through a ringer to get together.
Very good story of a single mom , a hot fireman, and a LOT of unexplained mishaps that seem to threaten her life. And all after buying two gnomes at a garage sale. This was steamy, quirky, interesting and funny. Loved all the characters, and the plot kept me interested! Would love to read the next book. Anything by this author is great.
This story had some great humor, great characters, but Jane's background with her ex would have made her more suspicious, so that part didn't work for me. It was a good story, but crazy to solve the mystery! I would recommend it!
So funny. The wry humor was addictive. Jane fell into a mystery and couldn’t let it go. Ty didn’t want to fall for her but the Zing and Bam got them. Good story and good storytelling.
Such a catchy read: a mom who's beautiful, sexy, simple, strong and down to earth gets entangled in some funny but dangerous ways in some local dangerous and unfortunately illegal activities; all the while navigating dating and moving on.
Ty and Jane were so cute. I loved how circumstances kept throwing them together and how they were able to work through. The boys were cute and I enjoyed this world!
A fun and quick read with quirky characters, mysteries and (mis)adventures! I even learned somethings. I laughed out loud at the doctor's office so watch where you read.
Great humorous story of a single mom who meets a hunky fireman, a garage sale purchase leads to a whole bunch of crazy dangerous near death experiences...
and after all that we don’t know a single thing about ty. literally he was just there so the fmc had someone to lust after. he could have had such a good backstory and character development and instead we got nada.
the plot was also all over the place and at times really outlandish to the point where i couldn’t even imagine or really follow it
I love a good fireman book and this didn’t disappoint. Ty and Jane just click from the beginning and they also fight the attraction they have for each other, but a series of events cause these two to come back to each other every time and in the end they just face the music. But this book only has room for one MMC so the fireman won out over the cowboy.
