If I don’t find my fated mate by Christmas, I’ll be banned from the North Pole forever.
I’ve messed up bad for the last time.
My life is a series of mistakes. The first happens when I am born and dumped unwanted at the door of Santa Christero, who immediately adopts me.
Being raised by a Santa from the revered consortium of Santas sounds like an omega elf’s dream come true, right? Wrong. While he loves me a lot, my father, Christero, is one of the busiest of all the Santas and spends very little time at home. I revere him, but I rarely see him. Sno, his housekeeper, is the one who raises me. He is wonderful, but old, and my spoiled and lazy behind gets away with a lot of mischief.
When I turn nineteen, my father decides I should work in his toy shop to learn responsibility. I take advantage of the job by not showing up on time and having three-hour lunches.
One day, I fill a thousand fancy stockings with candy and gum only to discover they are the diabetic gift stockings and have to be scrapped. You’d think someone who goes by the name of Sugar could get that right, but not me.
My father is so furious he conjures a spell that turns me into an elf figurine.
My final instructions before being boxed up and mailed to some unknown destination Find yourself. Find love. Find your mate. You have until Christmas or you will become an elf figurine forever.
I have only eight weeks and no idea how to make that happen.

This one was a little bit more angsty to me than previous stories have been. Poor Sugar goes through quite a bit during the story. Some of which is of his own making, some is not. His life with Grant is just what he needed though and made for a sweet story in the end.
I thought these guys were so cute and perfect for each other. My heart hurts for Sno. I want to know his and Christero’s story. Maybe the magic of Christmas can give them what they both want.
NAUGHTY ELF: SUGAR is part of a multi-author series and can be read as a standalone.
Sugar is the adopted son of Santa Christero who wants for nothing but still hasn't found his way. It's not as though he's actually 'bad', it's just he doesn't know what to do or how to appreciate what he has. It doesn't help that he has to fight other people's unkindness and prejudices from a tender age, which leads him to believe he is Naughty. That is compounded by Christero who sends him away via magic spell, with the threat to find his mate before Christmas or he'll be turned into a ceramic figurine. Nothing like a little pressure to help you see!
Grant is an alpha reindeer shifter who has moved away from Santa's Village due to the constant feeling of not fitting in because his reindeer doesn't fly. His dog, Velvet, is the one who finds Sugar and they take him back to their cabin. In a very short time, Sugar is recovering and feeling emotions towards Grant that he doesn't think he should. Grant is falling hard for the sweet omega too.
Fast-paced, this novella still manages to give you the whole story, showing quite clearly just how traumatising it was for Sugar to go through that spell and have it hanging over him until Christmas. Together, Sugar and Grant are low-angst, but there is that spell. It is somewhat steamy, with knotting, but the connection is more emotional than physical.
A quick Christmas read to give you the warm and fuzzies. Definitely recommended by me.

Merissa Archaeolibrarian - I Dig Good Books! Nov 8, 2024
Sugar is the rebellious elf son of Santa "39" Christero. He's lucky to have his nanny Sno even though he's now 19. He needs help growing up and taking responsibility, so his father gets him a job at the toy factory. Only problem is it isn't working with toys and one thing after another goes wrong. One to many mistakes lands him in a frozen state. Luckily he's found by Velvet. It doesn't take long before Sugar is realizing he's better off now than he was in Santa's Village.
Grant is a reindeer who can't fly. Other than his twin cousins, he entire family disowned him because of this. He's a loner with only his dog Velvet, so it doesn't bother him that much. But there is that occasional twinge when he thinks about it. On one of his and Velvet's walks they find Sugar at the bottom of a snow pile. They take him home and once he's thawed Grant offers him a place to stay.
Sugar and Grant fall into a routine and Sugar finds himself learning how to take care of himself; as well as other people. These two become fast friends and soon after they're falling in love. Before Sugar knows it December 31st is upon him and he's terrified that he hasn't accomplished what he needs to to prevent becoming the elf figurine again.
This is a quick Christmas romance with some bumps in the road. I really liked Sugar and Grant together. Their relationship felt authentic. Even though it was a fast courtship and kind of insta love, it worked IMO. I didn't like how scared and convinced Sugar was that he was going to be turned back into the elf figurine. I dis like that even though things worked out for the best and Sugar realizes that he's truly happy with Grant, he didn't easily forgive his father. That part felt really authentic. It does have a really satisfying ending IMO. Definitely worth a day's read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this engaging Christmas story with elf Sugar and his mate-to-be, Grant. When Sugar is kicked out of Santa’s Village as an elf figurine for sloppy workmanship and embarrassing Santa #39, he is found by reindeer shifter Grant and his dog Velvet in a snowbank. Taking him home and thawing Sugar out, Grant quickly grows to love the little elf and having him around. Sugar, while loving being with Grant, is still not sure what he is supposed to be doing to avoid becoming a statue again at midnight on Christmas Eve, so he spends much of his two months worrying about it, despite Grant’s assurances he will go to Santa’s Village to fight for him and get him back if needed. The more Sugar learns of his new life, and the more he depends on and loves Grant, the more terrified he gets as Christmas Eve nears. But the final words Sugar heard Santa say to Sno, “trust in the magic” prove to be prophetic, leading to his mate, his love, and his future. These two characters really grabbed me. Sugar was like two sides of a coin, sunny, confident in new skills learned, and upbeat on one side, sad, uncertain and fearful on the other, while Grant is calm and soothing all the time, getting Sugar out of his head. They played beautifully off each other, and Grant was so caring and gentle with inexperienced Sugar, the steamy scenes were sweet rather than spicy to me. World building of both the area and weather around Grant’s cabin, as well as Santa’s Village, created great pictures in my head as I read. This is a great addition to this series, a fairly short one and an entertaining read for the holiday season from one of my favorite authors. I received an advance copy of this book, and this is my voluntary review.
If you’re looking for a way to pass some time, there are worse books out there. However, this one from Wendy wasn’t the best (and I generally enjoy her books). There’s very little character depth or development, and the world building and plot are weak.
Sugar’s personality and actions are inconsistent. He doesn’t show any brattiness or “naughtiness” once he’s spelled and sent away. And his initial acting out isn’t really explained. Yes, he’s adopted because he was abandoned. But he was adopted by a Santa, which are considered royalty. Sugar wants for nothing, and his manny, Sno, loves him and cares for him unconditionally, even when Santa Christero is working and isn’t around much (but he’s made sure he’s taken care of).
I didn’t really connect with either MC. And I didn’t feel their chemistry or emotions for each other much. I did like how Grant was kind and caring without being creepy. And how they both confirm their feelings for each other before anything physical happens. But the stream in this book is also very lackluster. Just kind of matter-of-fact and boring.
The whole elf-figurine-spell plot was silly and weak. And why can’t Santas have children? They’re alphas… And why was the dynamic between Sno and Christero so touchy and secretive? And why was this an mpreg story at all? Just a lot of things that were included that didn’t add anything to the story. I think I’ll stick with longer books from this author and avoid any novellas or multi-author-anthology contributions going forward.
Cookie St. donuts, Pawtree, cherry red underwear, no Sno, flute from Elfland, Ronin & Ethan
A 'Santa's Naughty Elf Mates' series book by Wendy Rathbone that's whimsical and heartwarming. There's medium angst for Sugar's character. It's a bit darker than most of the other books in this series. It's also a Christmas story so it isn't too dark. Like the other books in this series, the elf MC is banished from Santa's Village, turned into an inanimate object, and given eight weeks to find true love or change into that object forever.
Sno, Sugar's elf nanny, is really likeable. As is Velvet, Grant's Aussie shepherd. Sno practically raised Sugar when Sugar's father, Santa Christero, adopted him. Sugar never really fit in with the other elves or even Santa's Village for that matter. Sugar is an elf who has no magic and sees himself as a bad elf and a screw-up.
Grant is a reindeer shifter who can't fly, so he never fit in too. He's been living far away from Santa's Village for fourteen years. His Aussie shepherd, Velvet, spots Sugar buried in the snow and unconscious. Grant and Velvet rescue Sugar and have to warm him up and nurse him back to health.
I like that this story has an edge to it and it's not all saccharine like some of the other Naughty Elf books. The spectacular imagery is vividly descriptive and easily visualized. I immensely enjoyed reading this satisfying book. I recommend it.
NAUGHTY ELF: SUGAR Wendy Rathbone "You have until Christmas, or you will become an elf figurine forever."
He might be called Sugar, but he isn't always sweet. As on of one of the Santa's, Santa Christero, he was seen as spoiled and lazy by the other kids in Santa's village, and honestly, he sometimes in. But his ninety year old elf Nanny Sno still puts up with him and bakes him cookies, giving him hugs when needed. He's an adopted omega elf with no magic, anc though an errant teemager, he tries to turn himself around as he turns past eighteen, but after believing he's no good for years, it becomes a bit of an elf fulfilling prophecy. He makes a huge mistake. And suddenly he's an elf figurine. Grant, a reindeer shifter who can't fly, has left the North Pole for a simple life with his dog Velvet. It's the dog that finds a frozen elf and Grant who carries him back to his cabin warming him up, feeding him and bringing him round. He finds Sugar adorable though wonders who would've cast a spell on him. As they spend more time together, it isn't long before Sugar doesn't want to leave but has to look for real world stuff like a job and a place to live. This is an intimate, snowed in, sweet as sugar romance with just enough spice. Sugar learns how to do jobs around und the cabin and Grant enjoys caring for him. There's family reunion, love and hope.
Sugar is an elf cast out the house with a curse to find his mate before Christmas otherwise he will remain an elf figurine forever. Who curse him? Why, his father of course. Does this make Sugar resent him? Yes again.
Grant is an reindeer shifter who can't fly. So, he lives like an outcast in the middle of the woods. Grant stumbles over a block of frozen Sugar and immediately brings him inside to warm his icy body up. Once the elf regains consciousness Grant is almost immediately smitten.
This book is an easy fast-paced read that gets you in the mood for the holidays. From the sweet treats to the sudden heats, this book has its own quirk.
I enjoyed the overall journey these two MCs went on. Seeing Sugar's insecurities and Grant's loneliness and how they complement each other, regardless of either being an alpha or omega, warmed me up.
I'm glad there wasn't high angst between these two because with the baggage they both have, it would've been strenuous in my opinion especially taking into account their individual personalities and what shaped them into being who they are as people.
This is a quick read that involves reindeer shifters, elves, Santa, knotting, mpreg, age gap, getting snowed in, forced proximity, one bed, tank tops, lots of cuddling, hot chocolate addictions and an intelligent dog.
Sometimes you need a good book to sit in and read. This is one of those books.
Sugar is a child of one of the Santa's, and once he turns old enough it is time for him to work in one of the shops. But Sugar is not quite taking the job serious. He makes a huge mistake and his Santa dad sends him away with a spell. Sno the one who has raised Sugar due to Santa being way too busy is devasted and begs him not to do it, but Santa tells all they need to trust in the magic. However Sugar is sent away and left in a blizzard with no idea where he is and barely conscious.
Velvet is Grant's dog and she finds Sugar nearly frozen in the snow. Grant rescues Sugar and tries to warm him up and save him. Once that works Sugar tried to help Grant with his chores and follow what has been asked of him by Santa. Sugar never really tells Grant who or what he is but Grant is a reindeer shifter and has a pretty close idea. As the two grow closer their feelings intensify.
Will Grant be Sugar's mate? Will Sugar follow through what Santa has asked of him? Will Grant show himself shifted to Sugar? Will Sugar ever be allowed back to the North Pole? Will the curse be broken?
Just a great read. Looking forward to checking out some of the others in the multi author series.

This was a sweet story of how a spoilt elf found his mate and the future that his father wanted for him. I loved Sno who was a sweetheart. There were a lot of feelings and emotions but many were annoying as Sugar was so spoiled and selfish. Grant, the reindeer shifter who found him was so caring and protective. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content and MPREG.
I loved this book! Another wonderful Christmas tale about one naughty little elf who will find all he never knew he wanted! Sugar was adopted by a Santa and spent his childhood being raised by his nanny Sno. Being the son of a Santa isn’t easy and he had some trouble growing up that led him to consider himself nothing but a screw up. When he makes a mistake while assembling stockings, his father will do the unthinkable - he will send him out into the world under a curse - find his way and his mate by Christmas or forever be an elf figurine. He will be found by reindeer shifter Grant and every thing will change. Grant is a loner, an outcast among his peers as he can’t shift. He finds that the more time he spends with Sugar, the more he wants him to stay. Santa’s magic is strong and it sent Sugar right where he needed to be. Christmas will come and Sugar will find that he found everything he needed to, right there in Grant’s arms. It is a happy ending for them both, Sugar even getting to go home to see Sno and his father again.
I read an ARC copy of this book and am volunteering my honest review.
Wendy Rathbone's contribution to the multi author series Santa's Naughty Elf Mates was not quite as uplifting as the last few Naughty Elf's I've read. Despite being adopted by one of the Santas, Sugar had an awful life. Cossetted by Sno, his nanny, having (from what I could see) little positive interaction with his adopted father, only acting out fills the void in his life. No one really expects him to be a success, so he lives up to their expectations. Unable to fly. Grant left Santa's Village years ago, tired of the one upmanship of 'reindeer games'. On a walk with his Australian Shepherd, Velvet, he finds a near frozen elf buried under the snow. He brings Sugar into his home and warms him up. The truncated timeline for finding a mate seemed all sorts of wrong. Less than two months. The chemistry between Sugar and Grant was more sweet than steamy. Just a touch of sizzle. Velvet was a very supportive secondary. A quick read. And while it wasn't all light and fluff, it was a good story. I received an advanced copy of this book and this is my review.
As the adopted son of a Santa, Sugar had been spoiled as a child but now he is an adult and it is time to be responsible. Sugar had a hard time with that and when his final actions truly infuriated his father, Santa took action and sent him off with a curse, making him an elf figurine. Now Sugar has until Christmas to avoid becoming a figurine forever. When Grant and his dog, Velvet, find him in a snow bank, Grant is not sure what to think. More than one thing warms up.
Sugar turned out to be a lot of fun to follow in his quest. He is determined to do as the curse said but is not sure if he is doing it right. He knows he wants to stay with Grant but will that break the curse. Grant, a reindeer shifter, was amazing. He wanted to help Sugar however he could, but he wanted him to stay. I loved how it ended. If you like great romance, try this one. I received a complimentary copy of this book. This review is my honest opinion.
Wendy Rathbone has written a wonderful mpreg story with substance and heart.
The main characters are Sugar and Grant. Sugar is in omega elf who was abandoned as a baby. He is adopted by a Santa and Santa's companion. Grant is an alpha reindeer shifter. He is shunned by most of his family, because of his inability to fly.
All the characters are distinctive and well developed, in this realistic and relatable story. Wendy paid attention to details that gave life to the characters and kept me completely immersed in this tender romance. The steamy scenes are vivid and well-written. The pacing is on point, and balanced. I loved that epilogue, which is set a few years in the future. I didn't want to leave these characters in this all male universe.
This entire book left me with a smile on my face and the satisfaction of reading a beautiful love story. Highly recommended!
This was a cute, quick read. Sugar was adopted by a Santa and had a caring manny. But at 19 he’s a bit of a hot mess. He really needs to grow up and learn how to be responsible. When he loses another job, Santa casts a spell that turns him into an elf figurine and sends him away from Santa’s Village. He has until Christmas to find himself and his mate or he will become an elf figurine. Grant is a reindeer shifter that can’t fly. His dog Velvet finds Sugar and he takes him back to his cabin. They were so sweet together. I loved seeing Sugar’s excitement at learning new things. He’s found love and is happy staying with Grant and Velvet, but he’s afraid that he could still turn into a figurine if it’s determined that he hasn’t done enough. They are beyond relieved when Christmas arrives and nothing happens. The ending was perfect and let us see them become parents.

Sugar and omega elf that was adopted by a busy Santa and had a penchant for doing some off kilter things and not taking his job seriously. It didn't help that his dad was busy and Sugar seemed to be acting out a bit because he felt unattended to. One screwup too many at work ended up catching his Santa's attention and Santa turns him into a figurine that needed to be taken in by his mate to not wind up a figurine forever banished. He is fortunate that he is found by Grant, an alpha reindeer shifter who turns out to be his fated mate. Grant was just what Sugar needed to help him grow up and feel wanted, loved and attended to. Their love story was so sweet and it went a long way to helping Sugar and his Santa daddy heal their relationship as well. Good stuff! I received an ARC from GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Sugar is an Elf adopted by one of the Santas but he messes up a lot. As punishment for his last issue, he is sent away from Christmas Village and must find himself and his mate by Christmas or be turned into an elf figurine. Grant, a reindeer shifter who can't fly rescues him and lets him stay in his cabin. Sugar has low self esteem and really needs to be shown he is loved. Grant has been lonely and Sugar is the one he has been waiting for. It's a slow burn until it gets red hot. Sugar is spoiled but good at heart and Grant is patient and wonderful in this gentle, sweet Christmas story. I received a copy of this through Gay Romance Reviews and this is my voluntary opinion.
Loving this series...and this one had me with all the feels. All throughout...I kept thinking poor Sugar...so many reasons why he is a "naughty" elf but his final punishment was so not deserved...even though it's the main theme of the series...naughty elf...find yourself...mate or else be curse for life. But trust in Santa's magic...well thank goodness he was found by Grant and his sweet dog. This alpha reindeer shifter help Sugar gain his confidence and find love. A little angsty...a lot of sweetness and love with very satisfying ending...Lovely HEA...I was sooooooooooo happy for Sugar...well deserved ending.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
I really enjoyed Sugar and Grant's story. After a rebellious streak growing up, Sugar decided to try and be a better elf. But things didn't go well as he slacked off at his first real job in the factory. His adoptive father, one of the Santas, uses his magic to send Sugar out into the real world to find himself and his mate. Reindeer shifter Grant and his dog Velvet find Sugar half frozen in the snow near his home one day. I liked that Grant was familiar with Santa's village. He was really sweet with Sugar, helping him believe in himself. I loved how everything worked out in the end.
This is a sweet and easy to read Christmas story set in a multi-author multi-year series where the Santa Collective run a massive Christmas operation.
The adopted son of one of the Santas, Sugar the elf just can't seem to fit in. He's constantly messing up to the point where he starts to give up. When his Santa father banishes him with a curse to find his mate - or else - he's terrified. Fortunately, the curse brings him to Grant, a reindeer shifter who has made his own way in the world. Together, they might just find their own happily ever after.
This book has a little angst, plenty of character growth, and a lot of love.
“Come home with me. I’ll keep you safe. I’ll make it right if I have to go to the North Pole myself.”
I loved this book. Great world building and wonderful characters. I loved both omega elf Sugar and alpha reindeer Grant. It was easy to see why Sugar wasn't a very good elf. Unmotivated and not having gotten the attention, love, and guidance he should have growing up. Being pushed out of the nest- of out of the North Pole- was the best thing to happen to Sugar because it led him to Grant and his dog, Velvet. They were so sweet together. Although a loner himself as a reindeer shifter who can't fly, I loved how Grant cared for Sugar and they fell in love. 5 stars.
Sugar and Grant story was quite heartbreaking as we see Sugar struggles and rebellions in seeking attention and need to be included and appreciated. He feels like an outcast that doesn’t belong and isn’t included in everything. Grant was also an outcast thanks to his differences, and his loneliness is staggering until Sugar enters his life. They had a very hard way ahead as uncertainty, doubts, and the past hurts still clings to them. Their chemistry is explosive, and after taking the plunge, they are stronger together and ready to face everything and fight for their happiness.
I have ready a few of Wendy’s books and have never been disappointed. This cute HEA is about an elf and reindeer shifter. The perfect Christmas story. Sugar is an elf who has a lot of growing up mentally. He lashes outs out and runs away when things become tough. His Santa father gives him no more chances and puts a spell on him to find his mate and grow up. When Sugar is found by Grant, a reindeer shifter his life becomes worth living and he actually takes a chance on the male. The two of them develop a friendship, each helping each other to believe in the magic of love.
WOW!! This is a great Christmas Story. Santa seems a little fed up with Sugar. Being adopted and raised by Santa has its own set of struggles. Sugar is a troubled li'l elf. Grant is a Reindeer shifter who can't fly. These two come together when Grant finds Sugar in a snow drift. WENDY RATHBONE has written a BEAUTIFUL Book that embodied the gift of the season. I really Loved this. Books like this help me look forward to this time of year. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS NAUGHTY ELF SERIES!!!!!!!!
I felt so bad for Sugar since while he was growing up, no one told him anything about the future. They just said “graduate” and be an adult. It took banishment for him to find ANYONE that would at least be nice to him. I love this author but they really need to calm down with the backstabbing background characters, because I’m always hoping for the worst for them lol. All in all, I’m glad he wasn’t completely forgiving about what happened since Sugar was literally traumatized his whole life. Either way, definitely one of my favorite reads from this author!!
This book is one of a multi author series abo9ut Santa's elve that aren't aways good, so who are a little bit naughty and their punishment is being turned into a figurine. I have not read any of the other books in the series and although when I first read the blurb I thought that this might be fun, I found the story to be a little darker than I was expecting, in fact it brought a tear to my eyes at one point. The book does have a very happy ending and I will be looking for and reading the other books in this series.
This an interesting story about finding love when you least expect to. Sugar has taken his responsibilities too lightly and his father sends him on his way with a curse hanging over his head. When his world collides with Grant’s, emotions come into play. I enjoyed seeing the way these two interacted with each other. Their story moves at a good pace and will pull on your heart. Each man has their own issues to work through. Grant and Sugar are good together and it was nice to see how they find their happy ever after.
Satisfyingly sweet. Sugar, is adopted by Santa Christero. He leads a difficult life based on neglect and entitlement. Sno, the housekeeper is Sugar's substitute Father. Sugar is elfanized and is given only 8 weeks to find his mate. He lands with Grant, a reindeer shifter who can't fly. Very satisfying story with some amazing characters. The cousins are amazing and I hope they get their wishes. Nice story of acceptance and growth. Nicely done. I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Naughty Elf: Sugar is part of multi author series Santa's Naughty Elf Mates. Each book can be read as a standalone but why not enjoy the rest of the series. This is the story of Sugar an omega elf and Grant an alpha reindeer shifter. This was such a sweet low angst story. I felt bad for Sugar even though he was adopted by Santa Christero. I loved watching these two figure everything out. They are just perfect for each other. I would definitely recommend this book and series.
