Taylor Harris--Marietta, Montana's new librarian--is the quiet type who likes her glamour between the book covers. When she's pushed into attending the formal Valentine Ball with Marietta's Most Eligible Bachelor, Troy Sheenan, Taylor can't imagine a worse pairing. What in the world would she have in common with a wealthy playboy like Troy?
Technology tycoon Troy is forced by business concerns to return to his hometown and take the town librarian to the Valentine Ball... what he doesn't expect is that Taylor is even less excited about the prospect than he is! Intrigued by the only woman in town who wouldn't be thrilled to take his arm at the big event, he's determined that she will not just agree to be his date… bur she's going to like it. Can Taylor turn a cold shoulder to Troy's heart-melting charms, or is this about to be Marietta's hottest Valentine's Ball yet?
Born in Visalia, California, I'm a small town girl at heart. I love central California's golden foothills, oak trees, and the miles of farmland. In my mind, there's nothing sweeter in the world than the heady fragrance of orange blossoms on a sultry summer night.
As a little girl I spent hours on my bed, staring out the window, dreaming of far off places, fearless knights, and happy-ever-after endings. In my imagination I was never the geeky bookworm with the thick coke-bottle glasses, but a princess, a magical fairy, a Joan-of-Arc crusader.
My parents fed my imagination by taking our family to Europe for a year when I was thirteen. The year away changed me (I wasn't a geek for once!) and overseas I discovered a huge and wonderful world with different cultures and customs. I loved everything about Europe, but felt especially passionate about Italy and those gorgeous Italian men (no wonder my first very Presents hero was Italian).
I confess, after that incredible year in Europe, the travel bug bit, and bit hard. I spent much of my high school and college years abroad, studying in South Africa, Japan and Ireland. South Africa remains a country of my heart, the people, the land and politics complex and heart-wrenching.
After my years of traveling and studying I had to settle down and earn a living. With my Bachelors degree from UCLA in American Studies, a program that combines American literature and American history, I've worked in sales and marketing, as well as a director of a non-profit foundation. Later I earned my Masters in Writing from the University of San Francisco and taught jr. high and high school English.
I now live in Seattle and Hawaii with my three sons. I never mind a rainy day, either, because that's when I sit at my desk and write stories about far-away places, fascinating people, and most importantly of all, love. I like a story with a happy ending. We all do.
Billionaire makes good and restores a building in his hometown. As a result, he has to attend the Ball that's being held there to show off the restoration. Recently broken up and without a date, he's set up with the new librarian. And after a chance meeting, they spend a week of quick interactions before the big ball. They seem to have chemistry, at least I think they do, but they don't spend a lot of time together, so I couldn't really get a good grasp on the sizzle between them. It just all felt a bit rushed.
2,5 stars rounded to 3 I couldn’t care about the heroine and could not figure out what the hero saw that made him fall in love with her (at first sight, no less). The book kept saying she was smart and interesting, but it did not show in any of her actions or conversations. The end was rushed and the wedding proposal seemed a little precipitated in my opinion. Troy was an interesting hero, but towards the end he was behaving very out of character, all besotted and foul. I’m curious about his twin brother Trey’s story, but not sure if I will go on.
This was a simple, sweet and romantic story set in a small town Montana. I enjoyed reading it and I am curious to read the other ones in the series. Taylor is a geeky librarian hiding behind big glasses and a book. Troy is a hunky tycoon but a good guy who helps his family and his community. I really liked this modern romance and recommend it if you are looking to read a happy story.
This is the first book I have read by this author and loved every moment of it. The book has a feel good effect that lingers much after I finished the book. The story is set in Marietta, Montana as the other books of the series and many more by her, and the characters and locations between this books are linked. I loved how the author has developed the characters and how the characters from the other books make an appearance in this one as well. I liked the characters and not just Troy and Taylor but all the other characters as well. the plot is interesting and simple and I felt drawn into the story as it moved, so much so that I read the book thrice. The emotions of the characters have been described in detail and that adds to the beauty of the book. The language is simple and the book made me laugh and also made me cry. I felt for Doug and Taylor and how badly they were treated and I also loved how the people around Marietta welcomed them with open arms. I loved it and have binge read the entire series and other books written by the author and set in Marietta/ Montana and loved them all. What works for these books is the continuity, the depth of the characters and the feel of the town. Looking forward to read more from the author.
BookBub offered me this for free, and I looked at it and said to myself, 'Jane Porter? Tarzan's wife writes romance novels? This I must read.' It turns out that Tarzan's wife is a pretty mediocre author. This was boring. Booooring. In fact so boring that I fell asleep multiple times reading it, and so mediocre that I couldn't even tell you if it was clean or Adult three days after reading it, I forgot about it so fast. I remember it was set in Montana, but other than that, it was all pretty much a generic blur.
Really enjoying this series, it is lovely that it is not all about the romance between the two characters. I also like that these are clean romances with the characters really getting to know each other through doing activities rather than sexual activity.
Very white bread, too filled with generalizations (“Most men …, women usually…), and the Georgette Heyer worship is off-putting. Had to play at 1.2x for a better listening experience otherwise, the narration is too slow.
Author: Jane Porter First published: 2014 Length: 1594 kindle locations Setting: Contemporary. Marietta, Montana. Sex: Closed Door. Infrequent. Hero: Hotel Entrepeneur Heroine: Office Work Trigger: Depression. Suicide. Includes: Excerpt from The Kidnapped Christmas Bride
Enjoyable novel with a sweet romance. Very Cinderella, even with a ball to attend. Sweet, believable HEA with ordinary, normal characters. Nice set up for future books in both The Great Wedding Giveaway and Taming of the Sheenans series.
Also some cross-over with other series set around Marietta. For example, Callan, playing pool at Grey's, has her story told in A Cowgirl's Christmas by CJ Carmichael.
I'll admit I was surprised by this book, I wanted a nice easy romantic romantic read that wasn't too long and this fit the bill it also had one 5 star review on Amazon. I think this is the first book I've read by this author and from the blurb and the start of the book I thought I was looking at a standard 3 star book, which isn't a bad thing since probably the majority of free books fall into this category for me but I really enjoyed this, I liked the characters and not just Troy and Taylor but all the other characters as well. If I'm being honest I suppose this book holds nothing new and you could argue it's predictable and yes it maybe but then it's a easy romance but I loved it and I'll certainly be reading the rest in the series provided they're reasonably priced.
1.5 stars The Tycoon’s Kiss is the 2nd book in the Taming of the Sheenans, by Jane Porter. I really enjoyed book 1 in this series, but the Tycoon’s Kiss was sadly lacking in substance and charm. It was incredibly insta-lovey. I didn’t care for the characters, particularly the main female character who was an insecure wall-flower type with little personality or determination, and there ultimately wasn’t a lot to the plot. So despite the promising concept of a new-to-towner seeking to modernize the library to make it more impactful on the community and finding unexpected love in this small, quaint Minnesota town, I found only heartbreak 💔...or perhaps just mild disappointment. 😉
I love Jane Porter's writing and this #2 in the Taming the Sheehans series is most enjoyable. It's nice to read of a female main character who isn't bold and brash and in some glamorous occupation. Taylor Harris is a librarian in Mariette, MT, and cares deeply for her brother who suffers with clinical depression. It's fun tomread of a strong male character who finds smart, book women to be his type.
I'm off to re-read #1 in this series and then buy #3 and #4 avout brothers Trey and Dillon. I hope #5 about Cormac is in the immediate future.
Another one I can't read. I've had more CNF's than books read recently. I used to finish a book even if I wasn't overly fond of it. Must be old age, but I can't do it anymore.
This would have been a great book when I was 16 or 17. I actually read 59%.
The book is slow and the characters are flat and Taylor is even a little stupid.
One of the worst books I've ever read! - And I read a lot!! So many characters I got lost all the time. She didn't have focus. Every character had a long story, and the MC got lost in the wind. She misplaced herself in the middle and rushed the end.. Don't know for you. Maybe you liked.. But I am really annoyed right now!! What a wasted
Update 2025: The Taming of the Sheenans series has recently had a cover change/update. The story within hasn’t changed, and neither has my opinion of this emotional romance. My original review of The Tycoon’s Kiss was in 2015; a decade later, I still enjoyed this story and actually love both covers. *shrugs with a smile*
The Tycoon’s Kiss is the second title in the Taming of the Sheenans series, featuring Taylor and Troy.
Taylor preferred spending her nights between the covers – of a good book. She had no interest in being set up for a date for the Ball and especially not with Troy Sheenan. She was Marietta’s new librarian, due to take over for the retiring librarian in June. What in the world could she possibly have in common with Troy who was handsome, wealthy, a son of a long standing Marietta family and… well, no, she just couldn’t do it.
Troy was returning to Marietta for a few reasons, most importantly his father was in failing health and he simply could not stay away when this might be the last visit with his dad. The Graff Hotel, his baby, his money-pit, his pride and joy – newly renovated, saved from the demolition crew by his determination and his money would be the venue for the Valentine Ball and while he might not believe in marriage, he certainly believed in taking the charming new librarian to the Ball – even if she tried to hide her beauty behind huge glasses and an older than she was attitude. Plus the added fact that she was trying so hard to get out of this set up date intrigued him. He couldn’t remember the last time a lady did not want to be around him, she was a bit of a mystery that he intended to solve.
It’s impossible to not fall in love with Troy and Taylor’s story. They are just so right for each other and, darn it, so cute together. I don’t think the silly smile left my face the entire time I was reading this one. I simply really enjoyed the way their attraction played out; it was so natural and engaging.
I have no problem highly recommending The Tycoon’s Kiss to anyone who needs a good love story in their life. This one is it. Pick it up and indulge.
**Any review is just one person’s opinion. You might feel the same or totally different. The only way to know for certain is for you to read it. This was my opinion of this particular book.**
It was OK. Just a very lukewarm reaction to it, so 2 stars.
Not really a unique plot - going for the whole opposites-attract thing. I liked the characters, though - geeky librarian and wealthy 'local boy made good' tycoon character meet when a friend arranges them as dates for a local ball/fundraiser. Except she turns him down! Intrigued, he aims to figure her out, and of course, things grow from there.
I think my biggest take-away was how weird the pacing was. There was a lot of slow build-up to them actually spending any time together, but then once they get together, it feels very rushed. Seriously, it's like 3/4 of the book felt like build-up, then Bam! The Ball happens and they're in love. But then it's a long-distance relationship for part of it too, losing out a lot on the relationship building, the actual romance. It just felt weird. And the ending itself was really rushed - the whole plot arc with the younger brother just got wrapped up and glossed over fairly quickly, it felt. Throw in too many side characters whose backstories were really laid out (not just hinted at for future books), and you end up with a rather derailed sense of pace and plot development. As a result, two characters who could be really good together... well, you end up not really relating or rooting for them.
It did have one quote I really liked: “I'm not a hermit. I'm just an introvert, which means I like people, but I don't find parties exciting. They tire me out.” THANK YOU! Finally, someone got it right! And of course, the giggly jerk of a extroverted best friend completely doesn't get that (response: "you sound like an old lady!")
Alternating 3rd person POV, but annoyingly it wasn't regular (like at chapter breaks or something). Sometimes the shift took a moment or two to track who was actually driving the narration. No cheating, no OW/OM drama, no love triangle nonsense. Relatively low angst, despite the issues with the younger brother. Weird pacing killed a lot of the developing romance, then too much extraneous information on the side characters pulled the focus off the leads. HEA, but not really satisfying to get there.
Would I read more in the series? No. I wasn't really impressed with this one, and as the next one is angsty love triangle... Definitely No.
I throughly enjoyed this book. She thought they wouldn’t fit. He was not ready for a relationship but he changed his mind about that quickly. Troy lived in Silicone Valley for several years. He came home because his dad’s health was failing and he had a Valentines Gala to attend at his hotel in his home town in Montana. A mutual friend provided him with a date with the local librarian. Taylor didn’t date and she was very upset that her friend had set her up to go to the Valentine Gala with a man that was so different from her. She did not want to attend it. He is a tycoon and a local heartthrob. So she thought He was so out of her league. This storyline has so many different characters and stories in it. Taylor’s brother is battling depression. His twin brother is in prison for manslaughter and his love of his life and mother of his child is marrying another man . This is another complicated story. Plus there is an untold story concerning Troy’s parents that he finds out about on his visit. Mostly it is a developing love story between Troy and Taylor that is sweet and poignant in a forever kind of way. This is a story that I will happily visit again . Plus it makes me want to read the whole series. If you are a book worm like me chapter 11 will resonate with you when Taylor explains her love of reading and the escape she has from the books she loves reading. It definitely resonated with me. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did.

Got this as freebie and because the heroine was a librarian and it seemed like it could be an interesting opposites attract trope. This was a sweet, closed-door small town romance with an unremarkable plot. There was promise though - Taylor, our heroine, has a brother suffering from clinical depression who she's caring for. He'd gotten into trouble with the law and was staying at a halfway house for his probation because the local judge was unsympathetic to his "mood disorder" and thought she was too young to take care of him. Troy, our tycoon hero, was approached by the same judge who had made bad investments and was asking him for a 250K loan that he'd probably never be able to pay back and the implication is that Troy pulled some strings in the background to make it so that Doug, her brother, could spend his probation with her after all, but it never comes up. Everything just magically works out and they live HEA. Meh.
A tech tycoon and a librarian couldn't e more opposites if they tried
Troy left when he was eighteen and made a name for himself in San Francisco. He only comes back for short visits and is home now because he is the owner of the Graff hotel and the fact that his dad is dying. He is set up with Taylor on basically a blind date for the Valentine's Ball. Taylor just moved to town several moths ago with her younger brother, who she is trying to help with his mental health issues that no one believes be has. Taylor feels Troy is so far out of her league and couldn't possible fall for her. Troy was intrigued by her the first time he met her. Now he just has to convince her that they would be good together and he is not as much of a playboy as most people think. Will he be able to convince her that they are perfect cor each other? Will she be able to help her brother so he can get a good job and take care of himself?
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A heartwarming small-town romance with charm, depth, and swoon-worthy moments!
The Tycoon’s Kiss is everything I love about Jane Porter’s storytelling—emotional, romantic, and filled with that irresistible small-town magic. Taylor and Troy are complete opposites, yet their chemistry shines from the very first dance. I loved Taylor’s quiet strength and independence, and Troy’s determination to prove there’s more to him than charm and wealth made him impossible not to root for.
Their story unfolds with sweetness, humor, and just enough tension to keep you hooked. Watching a guarded librarian and a billionaire playboy find something real amid Marietta’s gossip and glittering Valentine’s Ball made this a perfect cozy read.
If you love opposites-attract romances with heartfelt emotion and a happily ever after that feels truly earned, The Tycoon’s Kiss will melt your heart!.

The Tycoon’s Kiss by Jane Porter is an excellent read from start to finish. This contemporary, billionaire romance is well-written. The characters are well-rounded and really guide the story. I love both Taylor and Troy. They are both dedicated to their family as they navigate through life’s journey. They also make a wonderful couple, who is both charming and likeable. Their journey is full of heart making this romance worth the read. The Tycoon’s Kiss is Book 2 of the Taming of the Sheenans series.

San Francisco based Tech Tycoon Troy is back in Montana. His dad is ill and his newly refurbished hotel is sponsoring the Valentine Dance to try to get more interest in the hotel. New librarian in town, Taylor, is on the Valentine Dance committee and gets 'volunteered' to be Troy's 'date' for the Dance. Both are single, but neither one really wants to attend. Circumstances being what they are, Taylor wants to back out of the 'date', but once she gets to know Troy, she agrees.
Will they be able to get through their personal issues and make a real connection, or will distance and family issues get in the way of their HEA?
This was cute but on the short side for what the author was trying to accomplish. The instalove, I'm going to change around my whole life for you thing was a bit unrealistic for these two, but I liked it nonetheless.
I enjoyed the aspect of the story about Taylor's brother, Doug and his issues. It's a very real concern about people with mental illness being shuffled into the prison system. I'm glad things worked out for him finally but in real life a lot of times it doesn't work that way.
DNF. Couldn't get myself to finish this book. I tried, fast forwarded through a few pages and them tried again. It is riddled with silly stories and stereotypes thatvare archaic and ridiculous. If I had laid for this audiobook I'd surely want my money back. Now I just want the time I wasted on it back. If you like really "I'm the rich guy so no one says no to me" and the "Shy librarian finally comes out of her shell and sees the light "and a man saves the day nonsense then this is for you. If you're tired of it, save yourself. I wish I had.
This is an enjoyable sweet, clean romance between a handsome billionaire and a small town librarian that is entertaining and hints at mysteries in more books to come. Troy is Montana born and bred but he’s only in town for a short time and Taylor likes her quiet life surrounded by books while she is guardian to her younger brother. They have nothing in common. Or do they? I liked the characters, the storyline and the small town atmosphere. I listened to the audiobook version and I enjoyed the narration performance of Loretta Rawlins.
I really enjoyed this book with all its plot twists, characters, charm, and humor. I loved how it leaves you with a sweet satisfying ending. Now, I can see why Jane Porter loves to write romance novels because this is a fun book with a Book Girl that meets the most attractive, desirable, computer nerd that comes together for a quality storyline. This book pacing makes it interesting and the readability is easy to follow. Way to go, Jane Porter for delivering us a sweet romantic story that proves loves conquer all.
3-3.5* A quick romance read about a librarian and a rich playboy. Taylor, town librarian, preferred spending her nights in a good book. She was not interested in being in a date for a Ball with a rich guy. Troy had come back to town for several reasons and is totally intrigued by Taylor trying to get out of a date with him. Their story was entertaining but I did feel a I wanted a bit more depth. Fun light romance read.

Taylor doesn’t want to be set up for a fancy ball date with a man she thought played with her friend’s heart. But from the moment Troy saves her after she crashes her car he struck me as a good guy who wants to help others and Taylor not fawning all over him has made him look deeper. I loved that he liked her glasses and her love of books. Taylor has a lot going on with her troubled brother and she needs to learn to not do it all herself and stand up for herself. This was steamy opposites attract romance. It was great to catch up with the previous characters in the series.
Taylor is the new librarian who will take over when the other one retires. She much prefers books to people but she has been set up with local tycoon Troy for the Valentines ball. She doesn’t understand why he would want to go with her and he likes the fact that she’s not attracted to his money or standing in the town. This story has great characters and I enjoyed seeing the two interact and get to know each other.
