Annie and her pet bunny, Snowball, live right next door to Annie's favorite cousin, Henry, and his big dog, Mudge. Annie likes her home, and loves living next door to Henry, but she wishes her house were pretty instead of plain.
Can Henry and Mudge come to the rescue with a plan to make Annie's house beautiful?
An author of fiction, nonfiction, and poetry for children and young adults as well as an author and author/illustrator of picture books for children, Cynthia Rylant is recognized as a gifted writer who has contributed memorably to several genres of juvenile literature. A prolific author who often bases her works on her own background, especially on her childhood in the West Virginia mountains, she is the creator of contemporary novels and historical fiction for young adults, middle-grade fiction and fantasy, lyrical prose poems, beginning readers, collections of short stories, volumes of poetry and verse, books of prayers and blessings, two autobiographies, and a biography of three well-known children's writers; several volumes of the author's fiction and picture books are published in series, including the popular "Henry and Mudge" easy readers about a small boy and his very large dog.
Rylant is perhaps most well known as a novelist. Characteristically, she portrays introspective, compassionate young people who live in rural settings or in small towns and who tend to be set apart from their peers.
I enjoyed this book because I like Annie and Snowball books. I also enjoyed this book because I like pretty houses. I also enjoyed this book because when Annie's house was plain Annie's mom and dad made it pretty.
The "attic full of cool old stuff" motif - which is one of my favorites - plays out in this early reader. I didn't mind reading it on repeat when it was home from the library...at least until reading #20...I'm only human...
Annie and Snowball and the Pretties House by Cynthia Rylant and illustrated by Sucie Stevenson is a good easy to read book. The language is simple and Rylant uses a lot of repetition with the words she uses. I also loved the use of animals in the stories. The story kind of bothered me because I thought it was almost too unrealistic. It could give children the wrong idea about getting whatever they want. Annie wanted her house to be "prettier" and her dad allowed this young girl to go into her neighbors attic and take all the pretty things. I thought that aspect of it was a little far fetched. I thought the illustrations were well done and portrayed the friendship between Annie and Henry. Honestly, my favorite illustration was of Mudge. I think everyone should have a friend like Mudge in their life.
Annie dosent like plane things and she has a problum her dad has lots of plane things in the house. She told her cusen henry the problum. henry told her she could go thru the adack.
I like the pink lamp with beds that was in the adtec. snowball loks soft and fusy. I like the ending when thay selubrate.
I read this one because the author Cynthia Rylant is our 2nd grade adopted author and I wanted to try one of this series, which is just an expansion on the Henry and Mudge books (who are both in this one). Annie is their next door neighbor and Snowball is her bunny. It's a girl's version of Henry and Mudge.
We've enjoyed the stories in this series; it's heartwarming to read stories about close extended families. Henry and his folks help Annie make her dream of having a pretty house come true. It's a fun story to read aloud.
Annie, her bunny Snowball and her Dad live in a clean, plain house. Annie wishes her house were prettier and more decorative. Annie's cousin Henry lives next door and may have a solution!! This book has a simple plot and vivid illustrations. An appropriate book for independent readers.
A Level 2 story for children of all ages, including adults, of course. The story is about the idea of finding treasures at home and making home special. Beauty can be found at home.
Annie lives with her dad. Annie loves pretty things, but her dad doesn't have any pretty things in their house. Henry and his family come to the rescue! "Just don't take Dad's tuba." 🤣
