A slave's devotion, a master's love, the strength to forgive, and the promise of peace. It all starts with Measure of Devotion.
Jason Wadsworth is finally headed to university. Leaving behind his father's cattle ranch in favor of the posh, gaslit streets of Perdana, Jason is determined to climb the social ladder and forget his country roots. If only his father had gifted him with a more upscale slave.
Kale's been a country slave his whole life. All he wants is to keep his head down and live as comfortable an existence as possible. Unfortunately, his dramatic master despises him and makes life difficult at every turn.
Humbled by his first breakup, Jason grows to appreciate his ever-faithful slave and soon discovers that Kale is everything he's ever wanted. Now he needs to prove to Kale that his love is genuine.
Kale, meanwhile, tries to convince himself that he simply feels the devotion of a slave to his master, but his actions prove what his mind is unwilling to accept: he's falling in love. When Jason's future happiness is in jeopardy, Kale sets himself on a course to make Jason's dreams come true, even if it means facing up to the fact that, for the first time in his life, he loves someone else more than he loves himself.
Follow Jason and Kale as they rely on the strength of their devotion to each other to weather the storms they unwittingly enter in their quest for peace.
Measure of Devotion is a bittersweet love story that contains sexual content and adult language.
I did enjoy this series, however when I read the first book a long time ago I felt the series was going to go in a different direction than it did. It's not that the direction the story went in was bad, I just wasn't prepared. Overall it was very good, the angsty parts were all in the first book really. I was on edge in the 2nd and 3rd book because I was waiting for something bad to happen.
I would love it if the story continued, especially since . I want to see how the world reacts to freed slaves, and how Jason and Kale grow together - do they have children? What happens with Jason's wife in the end? They do go see her and she seems happy, but I want to know how their lives progress.
I've read book 1 of this series three times, and book 2 twice. To me, that is the mark of a good story - when you can read it over and over and it never gets old. I love the characters and the world building.
Book 3 was my least favorite of the three. It was mostly about bringing closure and tying up loose ends and, as such, didn't contain any major conflict, just a series of minor obstacles. There seemed to be a lot of supportive, comforting conversations, which I find boring after a while. I thought Jason's reaction to was unrealistic. Measure of Peace is a satisfying conclusion to the series, though.
I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into when I started this. I had no idea what it was really about. All I knew was it was an m/m. So of course I had to jump on it. Measure of Devotion is certainly a different kind of story than I am used too. This story is one that deals with slavery. A story of forbidden love and sacrifice where neither person has any real control over their situation.
Kale was born a slave, where he has no free will unless his master grants it to him. He’s not educated but he does his job to the best of his abilities. Although he’s never had any formal education Kale is a very well mannered, smart strong man. He never complains or balks at the situation he is put in. He knows his place and despite ending up in a position where he can take advantage he never does.
“Who did this scrawny kid think he was? His master. His owner. The hard reality set in: Kale was this boy’s property now.”
Jason is Kale’s owner. He’s his master and despite the fact he acts like an ass at the beginning of the story I actually ended up liking him a lot. He may be a little immature and naive but the devotion, kindness and loyalty he showed Kale really had him winning some serious points with me.
Jason and Kale are faced with some tough decisions where their relationship is concerned. Both men want to do what’s best for the other however the reality of their world creates some very painful events to occur. I really hated what their society deemed was appropriate and what wasn’t.
“Kale knew that his relationship with his master was special, but he was under no illusions about his status. He wasn’t a lover, he was a slave. A beloved slave, most definitely, but still a slave.”
This book definitely has that historical kind of romance feel to it. Not something I typically read but over all I have to say I enjoyed the connection these 2 had even though things started off pretty rocky. The ending of this one was one of true heartbreak. I could feel their devastation and their grief. It was such a tough one to swallow. Looking forward to finding out what happens next.
Measure of Strength
After everything went down between them from the 1st book, I was left with so many questions. Where did Kale end up? Did the sacrifices they made for each other end up being worth it? Were they happy? I needed to know that they were ok. So, I quickly had to jump right into the 2nd the book. I can tell you all my questions were answered and then some.
Measure of Strength beings 3 years after Jason sold Kale. I wasn’t really surprised to learn that Jason was harboring so much guilt after he gave up Kale. Even after all those years Jason still believed the lie Kale fed him and for that he would never forgive himself. Prominent owner of the largest steel company by day, drunk by night there was no escaping the pain and heartache he felt. His only solace in his misery was thinking he did what was best for Kale.
My heart ached for Jason. The love he had for Kale and thinking how he wronged him really tore at me. I could feel everything Jason was feeling. His heart was broken and there was no questioning that. When Kale and Jason finally come face to face their lives once again change. Nothing they thought would have happened came to be and that quickly has them reeling. Jason is mortified when he finds out what became of Kale. Feeling like it’s his responsibility to right all the wrongs done, Jason begins the process of making it right.
Kale isn’t so receptive to what Jason is doing. Fear, hurt and anger have taken over and the love and trust he once held for Jason is buried so deep within the darkness, climbing out is a slow process.
“I think you’re angry and bitter and scared. I think, deep down, you’re miserable, but you’re comfortable there. The misery you know is better than the one you don’t.”
“You’re trying to avoid pain. We all do. You just have to ask yourself if you’ve finally found something that’s worth facing up to all of it.”
I never once felt like Kale was wrong to feel the way he felt because I completely sympathized with him. There is no way a man can go through what he went through and not be a shell of his former self. Even though he was the one to be blamed for the situation he ultimately ended up being in, I still felt sorry for him. Jason was absolutely incredible in this book. He was patient, understanding and no matter what vial things Kale would spew at him I could feel Jason’s love shine through for him.
I have to say I’m so glad the way everything unfolded. Nothing was rushed, everything went at a perfect pace where I could really feel the hell these characters were going through. I loved when they each found their strength to become better people. I loved watching Kale trust again. No matter how much time went by I loved seeing how much love these two men had for each other.
I loved how this book ended. I loved the lengths Jason went too so these men could finally have the kind of relationship they dreamed of. I was completely invested right from the beginning and I honestly couldn’t put it down. I just needed to know what was happening next. I couldn’t wait for all my questions to be answered and I thank god things finally went the way they should have from the beginning. I can’t wait to dive into book 3. I need to see what happens next as they begin their life that is going to be vastly different than what they have had before.
Measure of Peace
Even though I felt like after reading Measure of Strength I got the HEA I was looking for, and not that you won’t be satisfied if you left it at that, I’m really glad I had the opportunity to read this final instalment in the series. I wasn’t left with a ton of questions but it was nice to see that all the loose ends tied up in this story. And also how their lives had changed since the book 2. I really enjoyed watching everything resolve in all facets amongst all the characters that we are introduced to throughout the series. I can’t think of any possible question that I would have or wondered about that didn’t get answered.
Jason and Kale set out on a journey in this book to tie up all lose ends. To make peace with any and every possible aspect or person that has had a presence in their lives. This was a perfect way to end a series where you are left feeling just as good as you did when you finished the second book. A lot is revealed and there is much change that happens. But in a good way. If you are looking for more of Kale and Jason then you definitely want to pick up this book to see how their lives have continued on together.
Overall I have to say this was a really good series. I really enjoyed it and would definitely say it’s worth picking up. As I said before it has a historical feel to it and if that’s not something you aren’t used to reading don’t let that deter you from giving this a try. You quickly get used to the language used and that old world feel it has. This love story that is about two characters that fall in love where society would deem it absolutely inappropriate and wrong. They fight tooth and nail to be together. Against all the odds, all the road blocks put before them, their passion, their desire and their devotion in each other over outshines every bad thing that they face. You will fall in love with Kale and Jason’s determination to beat all the odds and win.

I can't hardly express in words the emotions these books made me feel.I felt like I was on a rollercoaster yo-yo. They were amazing, full of strife ,tragedy, so much sadness, but they are so full of life and happiness. I didn't know what I was getting into at first, but I was drawn and hooked. Jason and Kale were so beautifully written. This whole trilogy was so beautiful. I must thank the author for making me laugh and then making me ugly sob. Some of the best books I've read in a long time.
Jason is heading off to University because he wants to be in the social scene and get out of the country. His dad gives him a slave named Kale to take with him because every respectable free man has their own personal slave. Jason and Kale have a bit of rough start but as time goes on Jason learns that Kale is just the slave he needs and maybe more? Once things change in their relationship it is a beautiful thing to read about. Almost fairytale like, but can a free man and slave really have it all when society says no and what happens when a woman named renee enters the picture what will happen to Kale?
I was very unsure when I started reading this book as it is out of my comfort zone considering it does have some historical characteristics. This book is set back when there were slaves and before electricity. I was never so glad to be wrong about a book. This book had me turning pages from the very beginning and I quickly fell in love with the main characters Jason and Kale. I also became very emotionally invested in them. through out the whole book I was on pins and needles to see what was going to happen next. Jason and Kale stole my heart even if there was a few times I wanted to slap them and by the end of the book I couldn't wait to read the next one. I had to see what was going to happen. The story is written very well and is not your typical M/M romance.
Measure of Strength 5 stars
This picks up 3 years after Measure of Devotion ended. Jason's life has taken a turn for the worse and he is has closed himself off to everyone. Although on the business side of things he is one of the best. He runs the leading company in the country for producing steel, but yet every night he sinks into a deep depression that he drowns in alcohol. While going to do an inspection of one of his mills he runs into someone that he never thought he would see again and he can't believe his eyes at what he sees.
Kale thought he was doing the right thing but making Jason get rid of him 3 years ago, but life as a slave has only gotten worse. He works everyday and doesn't know if that day will be his last. He never thought he would see Jason again until one day Jason comes to the mill and then his world is turned upside down again. When Jason purchases his title again in hopes that everything can be the same as it was both men soon realize that each of them has changed in their own ways. Jason hanging onto his guilt and love. Kale hanging onto his anger and fear. Will these two ever get their happy ending or is it just not possible for a master and slave to be together and be happy!
Once again Jason and Kale will pull at your heart strings and take you on one heck of an emotional rollercoaster. Caethes Faron knows hot to write a novel that makes the readers feel the emotions that every character is going through. I could not pull myself away from the journey that Jason and Kale go on. I felt like I was living it with them. Once again I found myself wanting to slap both characters for not being able to see the other point of view. This book made me even more invested in Jason and Kale and I could not read to more. I cried tears of both sadness and happiness while I read this!
Measure of Peace 5 stars
This book has a 2 year time jump from Measure of Strength. Things seem to finally be looking up for Jason and Kale. Kale finally has a purpose and Jason's business is still growing. Their relationship is going great now that Kale is a citizen of a country that does not believe in slaves, but what happens when the guilt of leaving his mother and brother behind gets to be too much for Kale. What about when Jason receives a letter about the father who disowned him. Will traveling back to where it all started tear them apart or will the be able to find peace.
This book takes you back to both Jason and Kale's past. The reader gets to see things from their memories that helped shape these characters into who they are. Getting to know these two characters on a deeper level meant that I as a reader felt even more emotionally invested in them then I did in the first two books. This book has a lot of tragedy in it for both characters and it broke my heart to read about the things that Jason and Kale had to go through both in the past and now in the present also. I cried more during this book than I think I ever had because I felt like it was my friends and family that the author was writing about. I cried both tears of happiness and sadness. While there was tragedy for both characters there was also very good things that happened that improved lives as a whole!
Measure of Devotion Trilogy(whole) 5 stars
Caethes Faron did an amazing job at bringing Jason and Kale to life, making them feel like real people and making me fall in love with both of them. This trilogy has it all. There is angst, tragedy, love, happiness, humor, some steamy scenes. I was so caught up in these books and so emotionally invested in the characters that I did not want it to end. There are tough subjects discussed in the books that have to deal will things in the past , but its a reality of what some people have had to go through. It was done tastefully, but still with a shock factor that can make readers really stop and think. This is one of the best series that I have read in a long time and I would highly recommend it anyone!
I am in love with this trilogy; the story is overwhelming but soothing at the same time and it always gives me peace of mind. I've read all three books several times and I plan to keep on coming back to it many more times in the future.
This is the Measure of Devotion Trilogy (Book 1-3) by Caethes Faron! Measure of Devotion is a slave devotion, a masters love and the promise of Peace!
Jason leaves behind his families ranch for the flashy streets of Perdena and now headed to university. All Jason wants is to forget his country roots and climb that social ladder as fast as he can. He wishes his father would have left him with a more upscale slave. Kale is a country slave and only wishes to live his life as comfortable as possible but his master despises him and makes life more difficult for him.
Jason grows to appreciate his very faithful slave and soon discovers that all he has ever wanted or needed is Kale and now he needs to prove to Kale that he truly loves him as he was basically an ass to his slave. Kale tries to convince himself that his feelings for his master is simple devotion and can't accept that he truly loves his master. Kale is doing everything to please his master Jason but now he feels that for the first time he loves someone else more than himself which is very new for Kale.
Measure of Devotion-Book One I loved how Jason at the start of the story is not great to Kale but then he starts to have feelings for his slave. I cherished the devotion he had for Kale and how he protects him. They face some tough challenges in their relationship as the society is telling them they can't be together and some painful events occur which made the story even more emotional.
Measure of Strength-Book Two Measure of strength occurs three years after Kale is sold by his master and now Jason's guilt is eating him up over what he has done to the man he loves. He has to hold onto the feeling that he sold Kale as a way to better his slaves life but he still desperately loves him and can't let go of Kale from his aching heart. Kale's life has not been for the better as he struggles daily and has to remember a time of beautiful memories that he shared with his master..Jason. On a chance meeting that brings Jason and Kale together again, they must forgive each other in order to be together and let their hearts heal.
Measure of Peace-Book Three Now finally Jason and Kale are together and they have made a nice life together but of course drama plagues them as Jason is hiding something from Kale that will change their lives forever. Kale is plagued with very bad memories that he's afraid to tell Jason. Their devotion to each other will provide the strength they need to survive the drama that faces them.....will these poor guys have that HEA?
I completely loved this series or should I say saga and the journey of love that Jason and Kale have taken and their love gave them the strength to survive everything they faced. It was fun reading this as a trilogy as it was like reading a mini-series. The author created such amazing and fascinating characters with Jason and Kale and not to mention the sub characters too. I felt the love these guys had for each other that I was thinking about them when the trilogy was over and I wanted to make sure they were ok as I felt very protective of them. Her brilliant writing left me wanting more and more of this great love story. It was also amazing how the author brought us into this world of man slavery and what society dictated life should be like and how these guys had to fight to be with each other. I highly recommend this trilogy of Measure of Devotion by Caethes Faron for anyone who loves to read a saga of redemption, forgiveness, hot M/M sex, drama, journey of love, Devotion, Strength and Peace!
"Complimentary copy provided by author/publisher for an honest review."
This trilogy was phenomenal!!!! Caethes writing is incredible. And this fascinating journey of pain, suffering, unconditional love, forgiveness and emotional growth is remarkable. I traveled this emotional journey with Jason and Kale and was extremely excited about their promise of a long and happy life together in spite of what first appeared to be an insurmountable obstacle. Fate had other plans and true love eventually prevailed, but it wasn't without a great deal of pain. But a happy continuation was declared because the story didn't end because the journey continues and that is wonderful. Great inspiring story.
For an ebook this was a surprise. I enjoyed the characters and their growth. What I would've liked was more world building. It wasn't our world but it was like ours. They had carriages and me only schools. But there were some inconsistencies a telephone comes out of nowhere and a car. However my biggest issue was Kale. He does something that he believes is right no matter who it hurts. Yet after his choices he blames Jason. It was annoying.
No matter what. I will read it again and suggest it to my friends.
Unusually good for the plot line. It's been done many times, but this is one I could actually go back and read again in a few years and enjoy. Not trite or gooey, but rather honest and raw. This one actually hurt to read sometimes. I laid it aside between each book, just to recover and ended up appreciating the story even more for the time lapse and how much it's stayed with me.
I absolutely and thoroughly enjoyed this trilogy. The characters pulled me in right from the start and with every book, I had to know what would happen next. I have been emotionally touched by this series and I know it will stay with me for a long time.
Such a powerful love story. This trilogy has everything. Passion, lust, up and downs, rights and wrongs, devastation and victory. I have laughed, cried, been pissed off and ecstatic. Thank you
