Geri Scazzero knew there was something desperately wrong with her life. She felt like a single parent raising her four young daughters alone. She finally told her husband, “I quit,” and left the thriving church he pastored, beginning a journey that transformed her and her marriage for the better. In this eight-session video Bible study (DVD/digital video sold separately), Geri provides you a way out of an inauthentic, superficial spirituality to genuine freedom in Christ. This study is for every woman who thinks, “I can’t keep pretending everything is fine!” The journey to emotional health begins by quitting. Geri quit being afraid of what others think. She quit lying. She quit denying her anger and sadness. She quit living someone else’s life. When you quit those things that are damaging to your soul or the souls of others, you are freed up to choose other ways of being and relating that are rooted in love and lead to life. When you quit for the right reasons, at the right time, and in the right way, you’re on the path not only to emotional health, but also to the true purpose of your life. Sessions Designed for use with the Emotionally Healthy Woman Video Study (sold separately).
Insightful book that provokes analysis of one’s emotions, motives, and thought processes as they relate to womanhood and being a follower of Christ. Concepts within the book may feel simplified or even obvious but it’s the consistent application of them that makes them the most impactful. Gerri provides direct questions that I will likely continue to refer back to.
will keep going back to for reference until the end of time i’m convinced! so helpful and vulnerable, i definitely cried many tears as it seemed the inside of hearts struggles were being shared and i wasn’t alone in them 🥲
I read this over the course of a few months with a friend, reading a chapter about every two weeks. It definitely sparked a lot of really good conversation and introspection. However, we found ourselves saying many times that it felt hard to relate to Geri without being a mother and a pastor’s wife. (If that’s what you’re looking for, this is a great book for that) Nearly all of her stories and examples related to one of those two roles.
There are good questions, thoughts, and suggestions here for living an emotionally healthy life for sure. I would sooner recommend Emotionally Healthy Spirituality though, over this one. If you haven’t read her husband’s book (which came out first), I’d say it’s much more worthwhile!
I read this book with a group of women. It was great starting ground to talk about intentional, practical and authentic spirituality in practice. I would say the author speaks from her background and experiences, while the content is spot on Biblically, the narrative may feel unrelatable or triggering depending on your personal background or trauma. Walking with others while you read this helps see these chapters through a wide lens angle of applicable truth.
DNF stopped reading at chapter 3 because information wasn’t helpful to me. It seemed more appropriate for people pleasers. I initially was interested in beginning when she spoke about leaving her husband’s church where he pastored. I can relate to Bible verses she used about putting other people needs before own. It reminded me of “boundaries” book
I found this book insightful although there were some things I’m not sure I completely agree with, but I understood the point. I listened on áudio and think I’d like to get a paperback copy at some point so I can read through and take notes or highlight. I definitely was able to relate to much of what the author had to share.
Starts off fairly basic, but honestly there is some good, new stuff in there. Somethings Scazzero brings up in an entirely different light than I have ever thought about before. I would have loved more examples but as this size it is an easy read.
Amazing tools to awaken things we need to use to become healthy in our lives for ourselves , our family’s and others Awakens the deep down ugliness we try to hide in ourselves and over look . Great read and better when we apply it !!
The book is simple to understand. The ideas aren’t mind blowing but they do challenge some biblical truths that may have been misunderstood by the wider church. The author uses scripture to anchor her points. Wish the action points and prompts were listed better and more real life examples given.
The title speaks truthfully about what’s in the book. Every chapter is practical, guiding, and helpful. It’s great for those who are in discovery about themselves and have a difficulty in getting real. 👍🏻
Such a good read! I read this book as part of a study, and it was so insightful. Highly recommend it to any woman who is struggling with anxiety, an identity crisis, or just walking through the world at a loss of what to do.
read as a study with a group of ladies from church once a month, it was great to get together and discuss it. There was often times where many of us felt like we wanted to throw the book reading because of what she wrote.
Since my daughters read this and said “hey mom, you should read this!” …i am grateful they shared as such! More great insights and conversations to come, I hope!
Love. Love, love. However there are points made that are beneficial for women & men. Especially those in leadership or public service/ministry! You cannot give out of emptiness.
Phenomenal book! HIGHLY recommend to anyone (male or female) wanting to deepen their relationship with God and quit the things in their life preventing that.
