ความสนุกของเรื่องนี้คือตอนที่มันเฉลยปมต่างๆ เมื่อสองไทม์ไลน์มาบรรจบกัน รู้สึก Mind blowing มาก เพียงแต่ต้องตั้งใจจำชื่อตัวละคร (ซึ่งก็มีเยอะมาก) ไม่งั้นงงว่าใครเป็นใคร ตัวละครนี้โผล่มาได้ไง อีกจุดหนึ่งที่ผมประทับใจคือการเขียนตัวละคร LGBT+ ได้แบบแยบคายไม่ยัดเยียด

In this installment, Masakazu Ishiguro begins to more boldly connect the elements of his complex story, revealing that all the seemingly separate events were part of a larger plan from the start. However, this doesn't mean the end of the mysteries.
The most important event in this volume is the increasingly closer convergence of the two main plot lines. Maru and Kiruko's stories begin to intertwine more clearly with events surrounding the Takahara Institute. Maru and Kiruko reach further locations connected to the Institute's past, and their journey is no longer merely a search for a mysterious destination. Every piece of information about the world they inhabit also influences their own history. Maru, in particular, begins to uncover the truth about her origins.
One of the volume's strongest elements is Maru's fight with Michika. It's not just a spectacular action scene, but an event that allows for a deeper understanding of the protagonist's capabilities. Ishiguro demonstrates that the characters' abilities aren't added merely for show. Each element has its place within the larger narrative structure. Kiruko remains one of the story's pillars. Her journey continues to be filled with difficult emotions and questions about her own identity. The author brilliantly demonstrates that the characters' greatest conflicts don't always stem from fighting opponents.
Volume nine also makes excellent use of information about past events. Dates, memories, and conversations between various characters allow us to slowly reconstruct the history of the world after the catastrophe. It's still not a complete picture, but for the first time, you can feel the pieces beginning to fall into place.
Graphically, the manga continues to be of a very high standard. Ishiguro masterfully combines calm, everyday scenes with moments of horror . The hiruko designs are particularly impressive, possessing something both fascinating and unsettling....

A stunning 9th volume and I really need to see these scenes animated! We have some good moments and some moments that had me not happy. Like with Michika. Holy crap I just want them out of the story ASAP. They remind me of that boar dude in Demon Slayer. Always fighting, not considering anything. Like the fight with Taka (WTF was up with that) or with Maru (hello why?). Thankfully, things settle and the story gets better again. I loved switching between the now and then (though the then is really coming closer and we get some big OH that is why they cremated the dead in the facility thing). There is a ton of things happening. Also a cliffhanger. ARGH. Hopefully 56 comes out soon!
AND OMG THAT DOCTOR IS THAT PERSON! I am sorry if I had to notice it before but it took me to 53/54 until it clicked and I was like WAIT WHAT? Everything really is connected right? That was fab done. Though I do feel that things were rushed a bit in that regards, there is such a big build-up to find the doctor and then it is over in a few panels. Plus, there is more happening in the next one that just made me feel unhappy about the pace.

The main plot of the story is not new. Apocalypse is upon earth yet again and the cause of the Destruction is related to the protagonist's backstory.
Maru and Kiruko are on the road across Japan in order to find a person bearing the same face as his and give them a medicine they need. Simultaneously we learn about the Academy where a group of children are raised with a purpose yet to be learned.
Nevertheless, the story is formulated in a very well-written model. The pace moves in perfect acceleration. I finished all 9 volumes in one sitting and still looking forward to the upcoming ones.
The clues are scattered beautifully and strategically throughout the journey, allowing the reader to take part in putting together the puzzle and discovering information alongside the heroes. Sort of like a mystery novel, which happens to be one of my favourite forms of lierature.
All in all, would recommend this as a light read between reads. Although not so light as it is emotionally heavy and can be intense for the faint-hearted.

Michika is such a tired cliche of a character. Even the design.
The chapters feel like a filler. I have to say the shit with hiruko got old really quickly. And like I could believe something bad will happen to Maru. He was beaten black and blue and yet he only slept for three days and is alright. Plot armor will not allow it.
The good? Kiruko worrying about Maru and taking care for him, almost confessing.
I also really liked the doctor, but of course one decent character that could be useful will get killed. It pissed me off. Finally we learned something about Maru!

ARE YOU SERIOUS?! This was about to be a 5 ⭐️ until the author decided to kill off the ONE PERSON who had the answers to all their questions!!! We could’ve got sooo much more valuable information on him like MARU’s PARENTS!!? HELLO?!! Nahhhh this is just dumbbbbb HELL NAWWW. It took 54 CHAPTERS to find this guy cmon! And he lasted only 2 or maybe 3?! Chapters?! Like finding this guy was Kiruko’s WHOLE Dang GOALLL THE WHOLE POINTTTT AHHH IM CRASHING OUT SO BADDD!! So… much potential lost!! 😞

Buena continuidad, este tomo en particular lo sentí muy corto pero vi un avance en la historia, ya no hay tantos saltos en el tiempo y la historia se empieza a posicionar en el presente solamente, la subtrama de kiruko y el doctor se resolvió de una manera bastante simple, esperaba más drama en eso, y la comedia estuvo bien.

La SF en manga a vraiment le vent en poupe chez moi. Autant, je peine à trouver pleinement satisfaction dans des univers de fantasy, autant je prends mon pied avec l’imagination dont les auteurs de SF manga font preuve. J’adore !
Ce 9e tome de A journey beyond heaven nous offre son lot de révélation et c’est excellent. Alors qu’on s’attendait peut-être à un ou deux recoupements, c’est bien plus que ça que nous donne l’auteur, mais il relance ainsi tout autant de questions. Un équilibre qui me séduit j’avoue tant il rend la lecture palpitante et dynamique.
Maru et Kiruko se retrouve ainsi face à une ancienne figure de l’institut contre laquelle ils vont se battre, ce qui va nous permettre de découvrir le plein potentiel de Maru au cours d’un combat simple mais éclairant. Kiruko va ensuite tomber « par hasard » sur l’une des personnes qu’elle cherche et en apprendre plus sur elle aussi. Mais le génie du tout est bien sûr, et on s’y attendait, mais quand même ça fait quelque chose, que tout soit lié à un certain degré. Et voir se rejoindre des fils lancés longtemps avant, c’est quand même jouissif.
L’auteur nous confirme donc certains sentiments mais relance aussi l’histoire sur de nouvelles pistes, notamment la nature de Maru, ses parents et ceux qui étaient proche d’eux. Cela interroge énormément sur le rôle de quelqu’un qui va malheureusement disparaître ainsi après un bel acte de bravoure, mais également sur ses proches qu’on retrouve rapidement ici et qui, j’espère, prendront la relève dans l’histoire pour continuer à soutenir cette dynamique de révélation bien débutée.
Être sur les routes avec eux commence à revêtir une toute autre saveur, surtout maintenant qu’on les a lancés sur une nouvelle piste avec les parents de Maru mais pas que. J’espère que l’auteur continuera ainsi à lier simplement mais brillamment la petite histoire en mode road-trip de survie des héros et les mystères de cet univers. Ici, entre les révélations, l’action et les combats bien effrayants, voire glauques, je n’ai pas eu le temps de m’ennuyer. C’est assez classique dans le fond mais vraiment efficace aussi bien dans le fond que la forme, car l’auteur sait vraiment donner une belle aura de SF à son histoire avec même une touche de body horror glaçante. Perso, je suis fan !
