The right time to read this series: when you want to unplug, silence your thoughts and have a good time. It’s the perfect reading ‘palate cleanser’ because it’s fun, short and cracky.

“Tan’s memoir would be called: It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time.”

I was ecstatic to finally start the second quest with Tan, Devan and company; and just by that intro into the book, you know it’s going to be fun and crazy like old times! Like the first quest ‘How I Stole the Princess’s White Knight and Turned him to Villainy’ it’s one continuous story divided into six shorts for some reason, you can find the complete boxed audio set on Everand. Though, the narrator wasn’t a favorite and there was an error with the final chapter of ‘Bone One’ where chapter four was repeated!!!

This time their main quest is going with Steve, the talking dragon skull to look for his vault and reassemble whatever’s left of his bones in exchange for half his hoard to help their kingdom. They get side quests on the way and more of Tan’s brother, Niran as well as his new kids/apprentices and it’s a fun adventure.

It was a fun quest book, but I didn’t love it as much as the first series. Maybe all the quirkiness was doled our in the first, so it was similar vibes and didn’t feel as fresh. 2.5 (rounded up to a 3)

I’m reviewing all the stories together as it really is just one full book, each part starting where the previous ended. These aren’t short stories. They are groups of chapters.

There are lots of funny moments in this, although no laugh out loud ones. The quest seemed ridiculous at first—how many bones are in a dragon’s body? But it turned out the bones were just in groups. They hadn’t been broken up into very many individual pieces.

I liked the characters. At moments, Tan reminded me of one of the crazier of Alice Winters’ characters. The idea of Steve was funny although not as much in presentation. The apprentices were great and I loved the skeletons.

One thing I really didn’t like was that some horrible men harassed the 11-year-old apprentice, which they took very seriously, but they kept talking about them harassing women. Throughout the story, including at that point, she was referred to as a young girl. They weren’t just harassers-trying-to-be-rapists, they were child molesters. Yes, in medieval times (which this world seems modeled after) it wasn’t unheard of for eleven year olds to be married off, but my understanding is that females weren’t considered adults until menses. The younger children married off were for political reasons and weren’t made to have sex until they were older. At least that’s my impression. And certainly eleven is still quite young in this book’s world. So call the men what they are: child molesters.

The book was pretty sexist with very few women. Tan’s other sibling, a woman, was called in to help but left behind leaving the party still heavily skewed towards men. The female apprentice was great as was the female pirate and older woman but there were so few women and the good ones were all tiny, no big physically strong women. And then someone said something along the lines of knowing to never argue with an upset woman. How about an upset person? Or is it just women who can’t be logical when upset?

I didn’t like these quite as much as the first batch but they were still really good. The story was left with plenty of room for growth. I hope the author writes more. I’ll for sure read them.

Esquelético me refiero a calavera y no a desnutrido. Además, lamentablemente pensé que sería una historia gay de Niran y la verdad me decepcionó un poco. Pero al menos saldrá mucho y es lo que me reconforta.

I'm really sad that I didn't enjoy this more as some of this authors stories are among my favourites.

There were some good, cute, and funny moments, but I felt it tried too hard to capture the charm of the first set of stories and fell short. There was one scene that really made me feel uncomfortable. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. Tan and Niran came off truly evil rather than only seeming evil at times.

Audio: Loved the audio version. I enjoy this narrator.

Story: Not as good as the first one, because of the 2nd apprentice. I didn't mind the 15 YO one, but the little one instead of cute was annoying. On to my next adventure, Happy Readings!!!

Fun, laughs, magic and a little death

This second series involving Tan, the Black Sorcerer of Grimslock, his husband the King of Goodwine, his brother a necromancer, his apprentices and a dragon trying to reclaim his skeleton, is absolutely wonderful.

This is wonderfully silly, much in the same vein as the previous book(s) in the series. This works as a full novel, as it covers the whole quest. All the characters are interesting, and I do love the little illustrations for each part.

I will take this series over and over and over again. I absolutely adore Tan and Devan, add in apprentices and a disassembled dragon named Steve and you're bound for things to degenerate into inanity and all sorts of zany adventures.

Ever since Devan became king it's been all work and no play, which makes Tan a teeny bit dangerous to be around what with all the boredom. A talking dragon skull that wants them to reassemble him in exchange for half of his hoard, which the kingdom desperately needs seems like an easy beginners quest to take the kiddies along on. Of course nothing is ever smooth when it comes to Tan and shenanigans are going to insue. I loved it. I'm here for the adventure, I'm here for the pirates, I'm here for the people just plain bowled over by the force of nature that is Tan.

Very vocal dragon skull, good quality time bonking and whatnot, teaching children to bonk. This sequel is absolutely wonderful I loved that they found new adventures to go on and made some new friends along the way. Tan and Devan are still adorable and manage to find lots of trouble that they have fun getting out of. I need more books like this!!!
