I chose Dinosaur A to Z for one of the non-fiction picture books. The book names a dinosaur for each letter of the alphabet. It says what each one eats, how to pronounce the name, what it eats, how tall it is with a visual of a man standing next to one. I love the detail this book went into to ensure that the children reading this book could learn different things about all the dinosaurs. The book's illustrations are bright and very detailed. This would be a great book for children who love dinosaurs and want to know everything there is to know about them.
o Summary: This book names off 26 different dinosaurs for each letter in the alphabet. A book filled with dinos big and small. Children will love this book if they love everything about dinosaurs. This book is presented in order with the alphabet. A dinosaur is named for each letter. Along with the name of that dinosaur fun facts can be found. The needs of the dinosaur are listed for the readers use. Although the dinosaurs presented on the pages appear to be toy models they are still very realistic. The pages are covered in color making the pages more fun to look at. Over all I rated this book 3/5 stars. This book is packed full with a ton of information about dinosaurs, including the dinosaurs names. This book is intended for young readers that are learning how to read and speak. The readers may struggle to pronounce names such as Allosaurus, Coelophysis, or Euoplocephalus to name a few.
Even though I personally don’t believe dinosaurs ever excited it’s always so cute seeing my children’s interest in them ... This was a well put together book .
Many dinosaur loving kiddos have adored this book. Despite their young age, they often are able to read the names -- or at least identify the dinosaurs.
Dinosaur ABC is obviously a book that not only covers the ABC's, but it also contains many wonderful facts regarding dinosaurs. This book is perfect for the dinosaur enthusiast, but isn't appropriate for a child trying to learn the alphabet. Most typical ABC books have simple words and pictures that the child can associate with the letter. In the case of this book, the names of the dinosaurs are very hard to prounounce, so it would be difficult for a young child. This book would be more appropriate for researching facts regarding certain dinosaurs. There are vivid colors and pictures throughout the book that grab your attention. I would give this book five stars if it were pertaining to the topic of dinosaurs, but from an ABC standpoint, I only gave it three stars.
If your kid is really into dinosaurs, then they'll love this book. I want to be very clear on that fact. It's full of interesting facts, it has size comparisons on every page, it has the correct pronunciation for every dinosaur listed, great.
If your kid is only kinda into dinosaurs, though, it may well be too long. TOO much information (especially as it's ostensibly teaching the alphabet as well) for the preschool set... and even for more fidgety kindergarteners.
In addition, it's a little oversized, making it difficult to fit it on my bookshelf. This is something that could've been dealt with if I'd thought ahead, but I didn't :(
This book has more than you probably want to know about dinosaurs. There is, of course, a dino for each letter of the alphabet, which means it goes far beyond the typical T-rex. (Ever heard of Xenotarsosaurus?) There is a pronunciation guide for each dino's name, which I find EXTREMELY helpful. Plus there is a little description of each dino and it also shows the scale of each dino in relation to a person.
What I liked best was the back cover--it shows many dinos and how they compare in size to an elephant or a car. I never realized the Diplodocus is so HUGE!!!!!
I love reading this book to my nephew. Some of the dinosaur names are ridiculous to pronounce but they give you an easy breakdown so even a child learning how to read can do it. If your child loves dinosaurs and is learning how to sound out words, this is a great book to get them to practice their skills!
My son loves dinosaurs so this book is perfect for him! He loves it! I, on the other hand, cannot stand the print. It's just so hard to read. Even so, I'm sure I'll be reading it more times than I can count. :)
My little one absolutely loves the pictures and the comparison of each dinosaur to a man to see how big they really were. If your kids like dinosaurs, it's a good choice.
