Maureen Mary was born on 1945 at Port Macquarie, a popular seaside town on the Mid-North Coast of New South Wales, Australia, and is the youngest of four children. Her sister was the novelist Wendy Brennan (Emma Darcy). Her father was a country school teacher and brilliant sportsman. Her mother was a talented dressmaker. When Miranda was ten, her father was transferred to Gosford, another coastal town in the countryside, much closer to Sydney. After leaving her convent school, she briefly studied the cello before moving to Sydney, where she embraced the emerging world of computers. Her career as a programmer ended after she married, had three daughters and bought a small acreage in a semi-rural community. Following this, she attempted greyhound training, as well as horse and goat breeding, but was left dissatisfied.

Miranda yearned to find a creative career from which she could earn money. When her sister suggested writing romances, it seemed like a good idea. She could do it at home, and it might even be fun! It took a decade of trial and error before her first romance, After the Affair, was accepted and published. At that time, Miranda, her husband Tony, and her three daughters had moved back to the Central Coast, where they could enjoy the sun and the surf lifestyle once again. Not long into her writing career, Miranda committed herself to writing a six-book series entitled, The Hearts of Fire, with a deadline of just nine short months. Bravely, her husband left his executive position to stay home and support Miranda’s writing career. He learned to cook and to clean, two invaluable household skills. Numerous successful stories followed, each embodying Miranda’s trademark style: pacy and sexy rhythms; passionate, real-life characters; and enduring, memorable story lines. She has one credo when writing romances: Don’t bore the reader! Millions of fans world-wide agree she never does.

Miranda was the sister of the late author, Emma Darcy.

This one is okay if you don't mind a widowed hero who is still in love with his former wife and is convinced he'll never love again. However, he still wants sex with the hot heroine who has hangups about some scars on her legs that caused her ex-husband to divorce her. The hero convinces himself that he's helping the heroine out by getting her over this insecurity. Meanwhile the heroine is eating her heart out (and writing in her diary) about how she can hide her love for the hero, because he'll break it off with her if he realizes her true feelings.

There's also a lot of page time about office politics (hero bought the company where the heroine works), her dead mother, and all the dreams and voices that prompted various characters to act in certain ways. For instance, the hero bought the company based on a dream. Okaaay. I guess I'm supposed to be charmed by the follow your heart mantra. Instead, I felt like the heroine was second best for most of the story and I'm not sure if she'll ever be first. The final paragraph describes the first wife's headstone - really unsettling.

Oh dear. I only read this a week ago and barely remember it, but that could be the Corona virus or it could be the red wine which is also the Corona virus.

All I know is that, surprisingly for a Miranda Lee and an HP, the hero deserves a much better heroine. For all that she drives a second hand car so her co-workers won’t think she’s as rich as she is, she’s an entitled snob. Working as the receptionist she decides to school the hero on who to fire and who not to, condemns him for his marriage to an older woman based on gossip while bewailing any gossip about her, and is a bitch when he tells her how beautiful she is although she has no problems watching the view as he walks away. A very unpleasant girl.

Yes, the hero talks and thinks about his dead wife on more than a few occasions, but he's really sweet and totally besotted with this one for whatever reason. Another hero that needs to be included in the Harlequin HP matchmaking scheme as his heroine is a 1 star loser. There are a few Lynne Graham and Julia James heroines that could use a sweet one like this guy because when he's in he is in!

Not a fan of sweet heroes. Nothing forbidden about their relationship. There's always potential but I guess these books are just a victim of being written during tamer times in romance.

Lots of info-dumps. The life story of the hero is delivered in a lengthy speech that doesn't read at all the way people normally speak (a sample: "Jason Pollack sold himself to his new lady boss within a year of her husband's demise. She herself died of cancer a couple years later, leaving her adored young husband everything. Admittedly, by then, he had reversed WhizBiz's dwindling sales. After his wife's death, he sold the whole thing for an enormous price.") From the heroine's perspective, we learn such insights as the fact that she drives a hatchback because she doesn't want "anyone at work to think of her as a rich bitch. She wanted to be liked for herself, not for her money." Right. That isn't at all contradictory. Does she fear being hated for her money or loved for her money?

The protagonists meet because the hero has bought the company the heroine works for. The reader finds out why the hero has bought it when he is first introduced, shortly after discovering that he was "ecstatically" happy married to his first wife. I don't know about you, but that adverb seems ridiculous to me - the choice of someone with no ear for connotation. And the reason for the purchase of the company likewise seems ridiculous - he dreamed of a billboard advertisement for one of its products. Normally, when I read I just go along with the story. But this hooked me right out. Instead of going along, I'm wondering, what the heck was the author thinking? Does she want him to seem like an idiot? A flake? Is this just the first thing that popped into mind when she was trying to think of a reason for him to buy the company? Did her imagination fail to provide a plausible reason that didn't just sound stupid? It's an unpromising start.

Conventional elements follow, with a silly resolution , and a creepy graveside denouement.

I didn't like it. Not a fan of hero that MMC actually loved his much older deceased wife (15 years older), I was hoping when I learned he married her that it was a transaction type of thing that he saves her company and that they hadn't even slept together. But that was not the case, he at 27 pursued the 42 year old widow and was still in love with her 4 years after her death.

I almost liked the FMC, but she was just so negative. She was mean to MMC upon first meeting based on assumptions. She was so self conscious about scars on her legs that weren't even all that visible (according to MMC).

As for their connection, it did not feel all that deep, it felt superficial. His thoughts were alway of how beautiful she was and how attracted to her that he was. She was in love with him a week after meeting him and just a few days after first sleeping with him. Then she spent the next 6 months being cold and aloof. P.

** Her father had thoughts that she looked sexy and even told her that she looked sexy 🤢🤢

No me gustó. No lo explotaron más.
Él en poco tiempo se enamora. No hay mucho de suspenso.
Y así. Termina el libro.
HEA para ambos.

I liked the inclusion of "someone" putting ideas or talking, to the main male characters, through their thoughts. As for the ending .......how gorgeous. Just because a mother appears to be weak and easily persuaded by the father doesn't mean she is. :)

The Billionaire Boss’s Forbidden Mistress is the first of Miranda Lee’s contributions to the Ruthless! series of romance novels. Meet billionaire Jason Pollack, a self-made man who made his fortune by buying, improving and then selling companies. He may look like a playboy, but he genuinely loved his first (older) wife, who succumbed to cancer four years ago. When Jason decides to buy out Beville Holdings because of a dream, he finds himself very attracted to the beautiful blonde receptionist, Leah Johanssen. But Leah is scarred, both physically and mentally, from the car accident that killed her mother and desertion by her husband. She knows what Jason wants, and it’s not marriage and children, so she intends to repel his advances. Of course, things don’t quite work out that way….. this is a delightful, sexy romance full of miscommunication and misunderstanding, with a bit of messages from beyond the grave thrown in. Classic Lee romance.

4 Stars! ~ Leah's had a very good life until a horrible car accident takes her mother's life and leaves her both physically and emotionally scarred. When her husband divorces her because she is no longer physically perfect, she learns that she has to toughen up. Even though she doesn't need the money, she takes a job as a receptionist. Jason is a self-made man. Yes, he married well; some say for the money; but he also loved and is still grieving his wife's death. Jason buys controlling interest in the company where Leah works. He's confused and frustrated with the mixed signals she gives. Her eyes tell him that she wants him, but when he gets close she runs.

I found this to be very enjoyable. It was fast paced. The attraction was electric. The passion sizzled. And both Jason and Leah are great characters. I've read other Miranda Lee's and she's never been a disappointment.

The ending was horribly rushed. Jason reveals he realized he loved Leah about 5 months into their relationship, but the story covers the first two weeks and the 6 month point whenthe book mostly ends. We aren't really told about Jason falling in love with Leah. The fact he is a widower and professes to never love another or marry again kind of makes the process of him loving again relevant to the story.

I liked it, but not enough to ever read again.

uhhh, asi vážně sáhnu úplně po všem.
Dobrý příběh, možná o 50 stránek delší, trochu zamotanější, a ne tak zjednodušený, tak by se mi to docela líbilo.
But...ten konec mě nějak nenadchnul.
