I loved Gabriel. He was grunty but such a kind person. I loved that he wasn’t a rake and appreciated no references or talk of past lovers. I like when the men are just so kind. He sees that Katherine isn’t great at the job he hired her at but excels in other ways so he works to incorporate her strengths in building their life together. Katherine reminds me of myself in certain ways, you are told by society/family that to be fulfilled you must hit certain goals in certain ways and when/if that doesn’t happen there is a feeling of being lost and not knowing who you might be. Her personal growth to find her passion was really quite sweet. I loved his sister as well. I don’t like when Scottish accents are written out, I think that can be done with descriptions (he says in a Scottish brogue) it makes it hard for me to read cause I’m having to guess sometimes what is being said. Also, I felt like I understood why he was into her( the bumblebee was sooo sweet). But in the beginning I wasn’t really sure she was into him. Overall 3.5 I can’t wait to read Catherine’s story and how the Duke wins her back and what caused their distance!!

In Search of a Husband. My fellow readers. Grab your tissues and your chocolate. This is a good ole, must read love story. It’s a love story that I strongly believe was written beautifully.
As a dedicated reader, I didn’t want this story to end. Kate, Gabe, Lorna, Maisie and even the housekeeper, Mrs. Malcolm contributed to the book’s surprising humor and excitement. The quick tongue comments from the young little lassie’s, and their misguided shenanigans nearly had me laughing in tears. What is an uncle to do? I don’t believe that there was a page untouched discussing or commenting on Lorna and Maisie’s trickery. Don’t think that Kate and Gabe are so innocent.
The kitchen scene with the flour kicked off the burning desire between the two. Readers I need to share something with you. I fell so hard for Gabe. I was boy stop playing with my emotions. Teasing me with all that… that maleness and everything.
This man is described as a Scottish mountain of a man, with big everything. And I mean everything. Carved especially for me. Kate! I meant Kate.
Readers, the scene with the apple pie filling was the best. Kate slapping Gabe’s face with the apple filling had me imagining all kinds of things. You could not hold me back for I would have licked the pores clean on that man’s face. How many licks does it take to get to the middle of a Scottish apple man? I couldn’t tell you, because I’m still licking.
Kate was definitely blessed with having this Gabe walk into her life. After what happened to her, Kate deserved her moment of happiness. And if said happiness just so happens to be with two little girls who are spits fires, and the grumpiest Scottish man that you could encounter on a deserted dark road, then so be it. Through the words of the writers, I could feel in my heart, the main characters love, compassion and the overwhelming pure joy of happiness for one another. I don’t know about you, but it feels so, so good to read a book that’s written in such an affectionate way.
Read the book and tell me what you think. The heartwarming moments that Kate and Gabe share with each other, and with the girls, gives this book its Kodiak moment. Now that’s saying something. The romance between our main characters is steeeaaammmmyyy. Whew!
Yes Lord. I would like to thank the creator for not holding back. I appreciate that the writer created a story that captivated my imagination. I truly loved, loved the book. I give this book two snaps and a, Gabe, what are you going to do when your girls start thinking about boys?
Hold on to your hat Kate! Until next time my fellow readers. Read on!

Katherine Bancroft was caught in a compromising situation, then ruined when the Marquis refused to marry her, abandoned by her family she takes the position of governess to two orphaned young girls. Haunted by the tragic loss of his elder brother, Gabriel MacInnes returns to the ancestral home to salvage the remnants of a fading family legacy.
The second book in the series but it’s easily read on its own. I loved both Kate & Gabriel, the chemistry between them sizzled, I also loved how they moved forward & whilst trying to deny their attraction it couldn’t be denied. There were also lovely secondary characters who added to the story. A well written engrossing romance, which I thoroughly enjoyed
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

Katherine Bancroft is young and innocent, but the Marquess of Brookhouse takes advantage and ruins her reputation. Cut by society, Kate takes a position as a governess in Scotland. Gabriel MacInnes returns to Dunsmuir after his brother's death. Two orphaned nieces, a family home and business in shambles needs his attention. A governess? Kate's never been maternal, but she finds her life changed by Gabriel and his family. An unexpected challenge will put their love and future at risk.
Gabriel is one frustrating hero.

In the first book in this series, we were introduced to Kate and told she had been “compromised” in some way. This time around, we find out how. And even if you didn’t read the first book (or don’t make the connection), it’s pretty clear what’s going to happen. And even as you know it’s going to happen, there’s a part of you yelling, “NO, don’t do it!”

After her cut direct from London’s elite, Kate decides to follow the advice of her spinster aunt and head to Scotland to become a nanny/teacher to two young girls. It’s not helpful that she doesn’t especially like children. When she arrives, after a grueling trip north, she meets Gabriel, the quintessential large, brooding, rough-around-the-edges Scotsman, who has recently been thrust into the position of laird and father to his deceased brother’s children. Returning home after many years abroad building a successful business, Gabriel is shocked to find his brother has practically driven the family estate into the ground and now, it falls on his shoulders to fix everything.

That’s the setup. Kate has left London to escape her constant ostracization by the ton (and her own parents) and to find herself (discover what she wants from life). Gabriel has left his current home in Paris to repair the damage done by his brother and find redemption in the eyes of his deceased father (who never approved of him). They are immediately attracted to one another, but both fight it. She, because she needs to come to terms with what happened and figure out what she wants. He, because both his father and his brother died at 37, and as he approaches that age, he fears he will die also and doesn’t wish to subject Kate to that fate.

It’s a slow burn, with passing glimpses of each of them fighting the physical pull they feel toward each other. And even when they give in to that, both fight to protect their hearts—to no avail. It takes a while for Gabriel to realize that his worries about dying young are no way to live. “For far too long, he feared not having enough time, and in turn, he had missed much of his life because of it.” And I was touched by an unexpected person who empathizes with Kate’s relationship with her parents by saying, “Our parents are our heroes until one day we realize they are humans, not gods.”

In its entirety, I found the characters to be well-developed and the characters easy to identify with. Even though I knew at the end they’d end up together, there were some hairy moments where I wondered how long it would be delayed. While some authors totally miss the boat when depicting children, turning them into caricatures, Ms. Paul perfectly describes Lorena and Maisie as realistic children with complex feelings. Periphery characters also had backstories that supported their current actions. Although not as poetic as I would like, it was well-written. I look forward to watching Rebecca Paul hone her skills as an author.

Katherine Bancroft, has been caught in a compromising position with a Marquess who refuses to marry her and is now ruined in the eyes of society. She decides to escape the scrutiny of her parents, and society and decides to run off to Scotland to be the governess for two young girls. She has absolutely no idea how to handle children and isn’t even sure she likes children.

Gabriel MacInnes is a self made man but due to the tragic death of his brother he has to return to his ancestral home and try to clean up the mess his brother has left along with caring for Lorena and Maisie his nieces.

He never expected Kate to be both the salvation he needs and the distraction he doesn’t need. Gabe tries to keep his distance from Kate but can’t help but admire her skills not with his nieces but with everything else. He fights his attraction and the possibility of a future together, because he fears he will die at 37 like his brother and father and that wouldn’t be far to her.

Just as he is getting ready to declare his feelings Kate’s parents show up to take her home and they have Hugh Nethercott, the Marquess of Brookhouse, the man that ruined her with them offering marriage. I have to say, I was disappointed and appalled by the way her parents treated Kate and was so happy she didn’t give in to their wishes and refused to go back to London with them. I was equally delighted by the changes in Hugh and wouldn’t mind knowing what comes next for him.

I loved this story because it was about so much more than romance. It was about two people who were trying to find their way and didn’t realize that they could be who they wanted to be with each other. The changes in both Gabe and Kate was a joy to watch and the depth of their commitment and affection was wonderful as was their steamy romantic scenes together!

A well written story, with great characters, some unexpected twists, humor, self-discovery, and passion that made for a great story. I am enjoying this series and look forward to the next book.

I received an ARC copy of the book from Wolf publishing, and I am leaving this review voluntarily, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

The title for this book is kind of wrong… the last thing Kate is looking for when she leaves London after two years of being shunned, is a husband! She just wants to get away, start over and find a place for herself after being disinherited over a scandal. And a governess position in a faraway Scottish castle sounds just about right, even if she’s the least maternal person of her acquaintance.

And once she gets there, her employer turns out to be the most wickedly delicious, big, brawny, caber tossing, brogue grumbling Scotsman with just enough Paris polish to make him absolutely irresistible. He helps her rescue a one-winged bumblebee, a puppy and a smelly old cat even if he can’t stand all those lost souls. He lets her throw up on his boots, regularly throws her over his shoulder and cooks for her… he cooks and bakes, and lets her yell at him!
He might just be the sexiest Scott in recent Regency HistRom history!

After many years away, Gabriel is summoned home to clean up the mess his brother left behind - debts, ruins and two broken girls. His castle is a mess, his inn burned down, his nieces are two little loose cannon monsters - adorable monsters, but still - and his new governess is the most headstrong, aggravating English lass! She’s terrible at her job, but she’s beautiful, smart and she cares so much about every living creature… but he can’t fall for her; his time is running out!

How I loved the verbal sparring in this book! They banter each other right up the kitchen table - applesauce included. Kate is a spunky force of nature unknowingly chipping away at his resistance, and Gabe is just a grumpy geyser desperate not to blow. Together they sizzle! The steam is delectable… so sinfully skilful [swoony sigh]

Whenever you land in small country village, you know the side characters will be quaint and colourful. Add a fearsome foe, a miscreant marquess and her uptight uber English parents, and the circus is complete! Beautifully written, witty, enthralling plot, heart for miles with a nice pinch of angst - this book kept me spellbound start to finish!

Whew these two are so stubborn neither think they deserve love but need it so desperately! They are the true depiction of cutting off your nose to spite your face!
We have Kate Bancroft aka Kate and Gabriel MacInnes aka Gab were employer and employee! Kate fled London because of a scandal with a certain Marquess who was a rake through and through! Kate own parents gave her the cut direct and she accepted a position as a governess with a grumpy distillery owner with two nieces!
These two are fire and ice except they are not deep down the want the same thing!
Gabriel is afraid to live because of all of the males before him died young!
There’s a nemesis who does not want the inn or the the distillery to succeed.
When these two seem so close to a bright future the past comes calling and Kate is answering it by leaving with the “reformed” rake who ruined her and her parents!?? What! Gabe has to step up and be the man she needs and also save her life! Can he put aside his self pity and fear for the future and show Kate that he’s more that a gruff surly Highlander in a “skirt!” There are laugh out loud moments and an extended epilogue that will make you sigh at how Gabriel stepped up to the plate and hit a home run! Bravo! Can’t wait to read Charlotte’s story hope he grovels throughout the entire book!

The beautiful Kate runs off to Scotland after her scandal with Hugh, a worthless marquess. Her unbelievable parents have disowned her and society has shunned her. What she finds isn't a sanctuary of peace rather a complete circus of adventure. Gabriel, is a Scottish Laird, who has been left with a boatload of responsibilities including adorable but mischievous nieces. Besides he has a secret. This is a man truly in over his head. Now Kate is no wilting blossom so the two of them together make up a unique part. She can run a house but isn't really the governess type. He has a gentle heart that's covered with a deep growl and lots of grumpy. The secondary characters fix perfectly into the story even as horrible as some of them can be. The bantering, chemistry and colorfulness of this story is not to be missed. A truly fulfilling and engaging tale of two people who learn not only what they want in life but who they actually want to be. My favorite line in the book says it all: "“I’ve caught ye,” Gabriel whispered. “I’ll always catch ye, lass.”

There's a bit of a twist and surprise built in which only adds to the beauty of the tale. This author is talented, creative and has a wicked sense of subtle humor. Love her works.

Gabriel MacInnes has returned to Scotland to take care of his family’s businesses and to care for his two nieces after his brother passes away. He knows how to run a business, but no clue on how to handle his nieces, so he decides to hire a governess.

Katherine Bancraoft is caught with a marquess in a compromising position and is ruined when he refuses to marry her. Her family disowns her and society shuns her for her behavior. Kate decides she needs something more than being shunned in London and decides to take a position as a governess in Scotland.

I really enjoyed reading Kate and Gabe’s love story!! They were both head strong and very independent, but they soon realized they needed each other to succeed. The best part is they fell in love along the way and what a great story it was to read!! They story was well written and the characters were awesome!! I highly recommend this book and can’t wait for the next book in the series!!

A Big Thumbs-Up for this One!
A young lady, Kate, is forced to seek employment in Scotland because she had nowhere else to turn and so she becomes a Governess to two very young girls (they are absolutely delightful!) and falls for their uncle, Gabriel.
But what happens before Kate and Gabriel can find their happy ever after is what this story is about and it was a pleasure to watch it unfold.
I loved all of the characters! They painted pictures in my mind as each scene opened and ran its way to the next.
It was a pleasure to watch how Gabriel opened his heart to Kate, (without him realising what was happening) and then to watch Kate jump in and fill it with so much love.
I read an ARC (Advance Reader Copy) and am happy to leave my voluntary review of it.

At loose ends after her family disowned her for being caught in the garden with a marquess who refuses to marry her, Katherine Bancroft heads to Scotland to be governess to two orphaned little girls. Gabriel MacInnes who has returned home at the death of his brother, to take his lairdship and to care for his nieces. This is an interesting and engaging story. Gabriel and Katherine are dealing with a lot, individually and together. They are strong, intelligent, and independent. I loved the scene where they met. Their romance is not as much slow-burn as attempted resistance. There is great chemistry between them and passion. There are problems, twists, surprises, humor, and romance. A very enjoyable story.

I so love banter and the banter between Gabriel and Kate does not disappoint. I loved how Kate was strong enough to fight her way out of the box the ton was trying to stuff her into and make her way in the world. Gabriel thinks he is living on borrowed time, but all he is doing is denying himself the life he deserves. Watching each of them pull off the chains that hold them back and enjoy each other was so beautiful. The villain may not be who the story points to and her parents are ….well…I would have left them too! I adored the girls and Oscar-they were little vixens! A wonderful sigh worthy story that keeps you entertained throughout!

I received this story for free and these are my own opinions.

After the loss of his brother, Gabriel returns to his ancestral home in Scotland to take care of his nieces and the family business. Immediately he realizes that a governess is needed for the girls.

Katherine Bancroft leaves her family and London after being caught in a scandal that leaves her shunned by society. She travels to Scotland to become the governess to Laird Gabriel MacInnes of Dunsmuir Castle.

The barrier around Gabriel’s heart start to crumble when he meets Katherine and an instant connection between the two is evident throughout the story. The two main characters were perfect for each other and the story well written and entertaining.

The Governess and the Laird

Kate left London to escape scandal. She became governess to two mischievous little girls and found herself falling in love with their guardian.

Gabriel inherited his brother's holdings as well as his children. His fears and insecurities were holding him back from seeking happiness. He was falling in love with Kate, but he would resist. Could love win in the end? There would be complications and challenges ahead of Gabriel and Kate.

This is an entertaining historical romance with a bit of suspense. I enjoyed it and would recommend it.

What an absolutely delightful read! Kate and Gabriel were a perfect couple. She was the Sunshine to his Grumpy discouragement. I really felt for Kate as her family disowns her and she fleas to Scotland to take a position as a governess. When she arrives in a strange place, her boss is a grump and the kids seem to hate her, she had to wonder how her life went oh so wrong. But then, Watching her find herself with a new family and love of her own, in ways she could never have imagined, was so sweet and enjoyable.
I loved every page of this story!

Loved Katherine and Gabriel's story due to the death of his elder brother leaving him the guardian of two little girls. Gabriel is desperate for a governess for his nieces and Katherine is in need of a place to hide from her parents and unwanted fiance. Gabriel employs Katherine and soon she starts to bring life, love, happiness and laughter to Gabriel's home until their life is interrupted by her family and fiance. Will Gabriel fight for her or let her go.

For a Society Miss, she’s a little wanton and it gets her in trouble. Taking off to Scotland, she finds her perfect man. He doesn’t want a relationship because he thinks he’s going to die at 37 since his father and brother did. Just when things are going well, her parents and the ruiner show up. Well written with great characters. The story has a good amount of steam. I have enjoyed both stories in this series and look forward to more.

Kate is a lesson..

In how to aid and albeit herself being thoroughly ruined by a rake. She did everything wrong and finally, a year later, is sent off to the highlands to be a governess.

Gabriel has a lot on his plate, hence the need for a governess for his nieces. Kate is ill equipped to be a governess. She kind of needs one herself.

I’m confused by the timeline of this book. It kept jumping around and then the way they felt about each other escalated rather quickly. Also for a governess, she didn’t seem to spend a lot of time with the children
