I spotted this series, "Puppy Powers," at my local public library. A sweet man named Mr. Power runs a very special pet store called, "Power's Pets." He places various pets with families
that match their needs. Especially the puppies who show up in his place.

Henry and Abby are siblings who have wanted a dog for a long time. Their bickering has kept this from happening. Their parents get them to trade learning to get along for their right to get a dog. Henry has been volunteering at Power's Pets, and he knows the right dog for them will be there.

Yes, Henry and Abby learn to get along. The whole family goes to Power's Pets, and they look at the puppies. Yes, one is a Dalmatian. Yes, he wins their hearts. Yes, he goes home with them. He is named Boo.

Mr. Power tells the new owners that Boo has one trick. A very special trick, that he will perform on command. Hmmm. It turns out to be a magic trick. I should have suspected that from the title of the series.

As I have always believed that Dalmatians are a bit magical, it wasn't much of a stretch for me to buy into the story. Let's just say that Boo teaches the whole family a thing of two about love, loyalty, and compromise.

{My Thoughts} - Henry and Abby are two siblings that really want a dog, but they have issues getting along with one another. When they tell their mom that the only thing they agree on is the fact they want a dog she decides to give them a chance. She tells them if they can get along with one another for three days they will all sit down and have a “serious” discussion about them possibly getting a dog.

Henry is the last of his friends that help out at Power’s Pets to adopt a puppy. The only problem is that the puppy won’t be just his but also his sisters. They will have to share the puppy and learn how to get along for the puppy. They have their issues for siblings but all and all I would say it is normal brother sister stuff.

The two siblings have a Science Fair that they are doing projects for and Abby knows what Henry’s project is, but Henry doesn’t know Abby’s. He wants to know so bad that he uses Boo’s special trick – their puppy – to help him find out. All the puppies from Power’s Pets seem to have special tricks and each trick can only be done under great care. The real question is – Is Boo’s trick good or bad? And should the children use the trick or not use it? I suppose you will have to read the book to find out.

I think this is a great book for children that love animals. It is a great book for children that enjoy stories that allow them to use their imaginations. A great addition to any child or classroom bookshelf.
