I love the Emma Griffin series, but The Girl and the Inmate seemed more confusing than usual. The books always leave you with a few cliffhangers, but this one seemed to have more than a few! It left me with more questions than answers.

Not Too Bad Of A Read

I have been reading this series, one after the other up to book 31. I can normally knock out a book in a couple of days, which is probably why I'm at three star review level... perhaps "series saturation." Make no mistake, the author can weave a good story and can keep the reader's interest, but man, at this stage I'm just getting tired of Emma. As long as you are onboard with her actions, you're good to go, if not Emma will go from professional to confrontational in 0.5 seconds. As long as those she interacts with phrases their concerns and cautions properly, then a discussion can continue. Say something that doesn't sit right with her and one can expect to be the recipient of being chastised, snapped at, or belittled. In this book, Sam, her husband, expresses concerns regarding her actions, and, as has been a common theme in this dynamic, she verbally " nukes" him, which leads Sam having to apologize, as he always does. So in essence its like, "Yes I know you care, but you're not going to stop me. And don't you dare tell me how to do my job or question my actions/decisions." And Sam... "I'm sorry." Then Emma gushes over how her husband supports her. Even her supervisory agent, Eric, had to cautious when when telling her about the heat he getting from his bosses regarding her handle of her investigation. Really? Anyway, the series isn't too bad of a read... I have six more before I put this to bed. I do like how everyone interacts with Xavier, and the constant mention of homemade cinnamon rolls, makes me wonder if the author has a really good recipe.

Read 2024 - this book was kind of all over the place. Emma was working on like 5 cases at once so it was hard to follow.

It starts with an inmate, Wyatt Larson, escaping from prison. Emma’s ex fiancé, Greg, put him away years prior so when Larson escaped, everyone thought he was coming for Emma. He was but he only wanted her help. He gave her information about a couple unsolved cases while he took care of things he wanted to and by the end, he let her take him back to prison like he said from the beginning.

With Larson’a help, Emma found a woman’s missing body and saved many victims from a trafficking ring. She also made some developments on the Terrance Brooks and Game Master case. Terrance Brooks was just an alliance and he has a past he was trying to cover up. Emma discovers other people who have been selected by the Game Master but she’s no closer to knowing who they are.

For me, the Game Master case is dragging on and I hope wraps up in the next book. This book wasn’t bad but there was no suspense or plot twists or anything, kind of felt like a filler within the series.

actually 1.5

i’ve loved this series since book 1, but man did this one annoy me. Emma got on my nerves in this book, refusing to listen to sense or acknowledge the feelings of the people around her. instead, she would get angry, yell, or ice out anyone who dared to disagree with her, and i found myself actively rooting from something to happen to her instead of worrying about her like every other character. coupled with the overly simple and repetitive writing, it began to grate on my nerves by about 20% in. additionally, this one was the most formulaic, and seemed to mostly just talk about Emma traveling from place to place and talking to people while all of the important crime solving happened behind closed doors. at this point, Rivers’ habit of saving all the action for the last 20 pages of the book is frankly annoying and predictable, and i think i’m going to need a nice long break from Emma and her merry band before i can handle the formula of another.

Just like all the other books in this series, this one is really good. Emma Griffin has the most interesting cases. And, usually more than one at a time. Plus, each book leads right into the next, making us readers always ready for more.

t was entertaining for a fictional thriller, but the story with Wyatt that avalanched into multiple other cases in parallel with the Game Master cases was implausible. Too much was left open at the prison and the ending was confusing.

This is a great read and I'm sad it is over. I can hardly wait for the next book in this series to come out but that isn't until next May, 2025. I love these
Books written by A. J. Rivers. She keeps me coming back for the next book and the next book. I've read them all. Thank you very much.

puzzles, mysteries, and a unique prison escapee

A life-sentence prisoner breaks out of prison and eludes pursuers - yet contacts Emma, as predicted.

The Game Master persists, targeting new “players”; nothing is ever simple and straightforward, except for the conclusion to the escapee’s trail.

The Girl and the Inmate(Emma Griffin FBI Mystery Book 31)

OMG!!!!!! This book was amazing. I didn't want to stop reading, when I had to put it down, I couldn't stop thinking about it. Emma really got herself into a lot of stuff this time. If real FBI agents have to do as much as she did, I can see why they would burn out. I hope I get more from Emma Griffin.

a real cliff hanger

Really enjoyed this book. Emma sure is a busy person. Does she ever rest. I like how she befriends an escaped inmate and he give her hints on solving past crimes and present. Than turns himself in to her to go back to prison. But the ending of the book? Sure gonna be looking for the next book.

The girl and the Inmate

Rivers has outdone herself again. What a great read, it captures the reader immediately and builds throughout the whole book to the very end. The plot continues to thicken with Agent Griffin being involved with several different cases at one time. It keeps the readers guessing to the end. A must read book!!!

During a prison break, Wyatt Larsen is found standing over a dead guard's body. But he swears he didn't kill him. He escapes and contacts FBI Agent Emma Griffin for help. There's more to his story than expected, and he's got to set the record straight. This puts Emma on multiple paths of solving long-cold cases and missing person cases. But can she get the convict back in prison where he belongs?

My head was spinning, this was excellent!

Oh my gosh, the suspense is killing me! Who is the Game Master?! Poor Emma, she’s got more than one thing going on this one, it was making me dizzy. Love the family moments she has in the midst of all the chaos.

Outstanding book

This book was very compelling and I loved all the various aspects of the plot. As far as I’m concerned, it was one of the best Emma Griffin books. I’ve read so far. Keep them coming. I love Emma.

Can't Wait for the Next One!

This was a great installment to the Emma Griffin saga, but the Gamemaster storyline has to come to a resolution soon. I'm sure AJ Rivers can find a new antagonist for Emma.

Different style but Emma

I love this series, but Emma is annoyingly stubborn to the point of exasperation. Please lay off of the independence. It takes away from the story and makes the book hard to read.

As always, Emma Griffin is a wonderful character and so are all the others...Sam, Dean, Xavier, Eric and the new ones. The storyline is great! I loved it and you will too!

As usual AJ Rivers keeps you in suspense until the end and leaving you wanting the next book to come out quickly. This book was a great read with Emma having a case she's been investigating and also takes on investigating a couple others at the same time.

Redemption

I'm glad Wyatt found a type of redemption in what he had done, but I'm also glad he kept his promise to go back to prison. I just hope he will be safe there after what he revealed was going on in the prison.

There are so.many things going on here, hard to keep track of.

This is a series of books like no other that I have read! Murders, kidnappings, serial murderers, prison crimes, and so much human tragedy, it's just astoundingly hard to keep track of.

Pack your bag you're leaving again

A story that has you involved in numerous murderous cases across the country. The old case that should have been solved due adds ago, if they had looked. The cases so new you were waiting for the next hapastance.

The Girl and the Inmate

I never get enough of A.J. Prices Books. After 31 books Emma and the gang feel like family. All because of her writing abilities that make them seem real.
