This book can be connected to If You Decide To Go To The Moon by Faith McNulty. After learning from an infomational book about rockets and spaceships, students can find out in McNulty's book how to prepare for a trip to the moon.
This book can be used to teach students how to write informational texts.
I thought this was a great book for the easy reader category and nonfiction category. The sentence structure and vocabulary were simple enough for a child to read, yet it was very informational and I think students would find it "cool." The pictures made it more fun and exciting as well. The reader learns a lot through the pictures and they are fun to look at. This book could spark a child's curiosity in space or science, as well as help them feel confident in their ability to read. I think this would be a good book to have in a classroom where students are starting to read on their own. I wouldn't read it out loud because it is meant to be read by the child.
We picked this book up during science week at the library as part of our TD Summer reading challenge. We ventured out of our usual comfort zone to try something new and were not disappointed. We learned about rockets that carry the spaceship to outer space, satellites and the different things we use them for as well as planets. My daughter found this book interesting and asked lots of questions. Great beginner reading book as well as an introduction to space.
A Level 1 Beginning to Read DK reader, “Rockets and Spaceships” is an engaging, easy-to-read text for beginning readers. Full-color photographs fill each page and help readers learn about the powerful rockets that carry people and satellites into space. A special Picture Word List is included to help strengthen reading skills. Perfect for beginning science education or for youngsters interested in rockets, astronauts, and space exploration.
Informational K-2nd grade This is a great book for beginning readers about rockets and spaceships. I like when they talked about satellites and how they related it’s uses to things we need it for. I like all the different information that was covered about space and spaceships. I think children would really enjoy this book and learning about space!
I've been reading a lot of kids' books lately. Our school got a donation of many books, and I snagged some of them for the book nook in the Extended Care room. Of course I have to read them because I like to be able to talk to the kids about them, but also because I never want to stop learning.
This book is very informative about the basics of space. It goes over and explains different commonly used terms regarding space, and is very easy to read. I would recommend for a non-fiction read-aloud day or used for a class as a whole for a project. A must-have for a beginning readers library.
They're simple. They're informative. They're cheap. If your child is too young to read, they're perfectly good read-aloud books.
What more can you ask for when stocking your kid's library?
This one is not my favorite, probably because neither niece has shown a real interest in space yet. It's full of facts and well-done pictures, however, it does jump around a little. It might have been written in a more coherent manner.
Still, if your kid is very into space, I would recommend this book.
Rockets and Spaceships is a wonderful informational book that introduces young children to the wonders of space exploration. The book is targeted towards beginning readers with word repetition, limited vocabulary, and simple sentences with picture dictionary boxes for textural support. It includes information about what rockets are, what astronauts do in space, where astronauts have traveled, what a space shuttle is, what types of job satellites do in space, and the future of space exploration. This would be a wonderful addition to a science unit on space.
This is a fun text for K-2 students to explore rockets and space ships. I love the picture word list that is included. It explains a great subject with simple terms for children to understand.
