Forgettable fun that fits the formula, but doesn't offer anything that particularly stands out. There are nice character moments, however, as someone who is re-experiencing these stories, it does make it apparent how little progression is actually made when it comes to the dynamics of the supporting cast.

*Sato & Takagi are the cutest, but what plot-twisted my mind was MAKOTO!!!!*

1. i wish i read this volume last week on valentine’s day.
2. I 100% thought the black knit cap guy was from the Black Org but it was MAKOTO OMG— I DIED MOMENTARILY.
3. i didn’t know there was a woman-ly way to check time when wearing a wrist watch? though I’m not a watch person.
4. the case with the square-triangle-X-cricle is scaring me since the english teacher is not what she is!!!
5. also how come no one knows x means a kiss at the end of a message XD !!

all in all, a fun read, onto the next volume~!

Detektiv Conan 33: 4.25 Stars
[6.92 - really great.]

This Volume was fantastic!! There was not a single mediocre chapter and so much fun stuff leading up to Shu, James and Jodie.
We have fun Takagi, Detective Boys, Makoto and Sonoko Moments - as well as four great cases.
This was a great Volume - it didn't have any major moments though /no blue tabs (emotional reaction from me) - which is fine - but those would've been needed to get it to a 5 star. This is very much a development/build-up Volume though and it did it's job FANTASTICALLY. ♥

Quick recap: Teen genius detective Shinichi Kudo (Jimmy Kudo in the American version) witnesses a murder by mysterious men in black. They try to kill him with an experimental poison, but it instead shrinks Shinichi to look like a small child. To conceal the fact that he’s still alive, Shinichi takes the name Conan Edogawa.

With the aid of inventor Dr. Agasa, Conan is placed in the home of his sweetheart Ran Mouri (Rachel Moore) and her father, bumbling private eye Kogoro Mouri (Richard Moore.) Although he’s acknowledged to be a very bright child, Conan must often resort to tricks to avoid being spotted as the one really solving all these murders while trying to find clues to the Black Organization.

In Volume 33, we begin with a two-parter about the slow-burning romance between Tokyo police detectives Miwako Sato and Wataru Takagi. Tired of waiting for Takagi to take the initiative, Sato agrees to an omiai (potential engagement meeting) with the wealthy police detective Ninzaburou Shiratori (Santos.) If Takagi doesn’t come to pick her up before the end of the meeting, Sato will agree to marry Shiratori! Too bad Takagi is trapped investigating a robbery where all the witness testimony is contradictory.

Then it’s time to prepare for Valentine’s Day, so the Mouri family is off to a remote mountain lodge to make chocolate! There’s allegedly a ghost that brings chocolate to people who freeze to death in the forest, and this time, the corpse is a videographer who was trying to find a wolf!

Next, the Detective Kids help a man find his late wife’s lost watch. Which doesn’t seem to be connected to the next door neighbor’s death while watching a videotape–at first.

And finally, American exchange teacher Ms. Jodie becomes involved in the death of a sleazy detective who was investigating a case of embezzlement. It leaves off on a cliffhanger–can you solve the mystery?

The subplot that runs throughout is a mysterious man in a black ski cap, who doesn’t seem to be directly connected to any of the cases, but shows up too often to be coincidence. There’s no actual movement on the myth arc.

The first mystery requires knowledge of how the Japanese language has changed since pre-World War Two, and the cliffhanger also involves some knowledge of Japanese, but the others are solvable with a little effort.

An enjoyable, but not essential volume.

In the latest issue of Case Closed we have the conclusion to the story involving the police love triangle. It was very satisfying even if I don’t think anyone would seriously gamble their future in marrying someone that way. Still…it was a fun story. The next story is a Valentine’s Day Murder mystery involving Rachel and Detective Moore. This story fills the majority of the book and is very interesting…at least to me. The next case involves a walk-in client who asks Detective Moore to find a missing watch. When Moore cannot be bothered with the case, the Junior Detectives decide to take the case! What starts out as a lighter case quickly turns into a murder investigation! The final story is a murder with a code involved. It is a cliff-hanger which does not conclude with this volume…so you will need volume 34 to see this case to it’s completion.

The Valentine case was not as exciting as Makoto's appearance! That was romantic. Even Shinichi was doing his best to keep Ran happy. But Ai is right - too much emotional pressure. The last case with the mystery surrounding x - it's amusing that for someone who knows so many other meanings, Conan is unable to find out its simplest one!

I think Jodie Saintemillion isn't a part of the Black organization, but she is still involved with them somehow. Question is, how? And there is definitely someone who's stalking Ran, Mouri and Conan... who is that?

1st case: Sato is still on her date. Takagi cannot come get her until he solves his case. and this one is a bit complicated because 3 people say 3 different things about the culprit.
2nd case: Ran and Sonoko go to a cottage in the woods. They want to make their valentines chocolate there. There are some other people. Suddenly one of the people is found dead in the woods with a chocolate heart on his lap.
3rd case: Someone is killed in the mall. He leaves a mysterious code behind. Though noone seems to understand it and make sense of it.

Another volume that tips the edge from serious to ridiculous. The ending to the Satou marriage bet-case was just as ridiculous as the beginning on the case. The second case (that being the valentines case) was a bit better than the first case, even if the dogs were weird. I didn't get part of the watch case's trick, so that part of the volume fell flat for me... but that's my own fault. The last case seems okay, but again ridiculous.

Its always funny reading foreign characters that don't speak Japanese well, then when translated to English it's as if their English off instead, lol. One of the downsides to reading it in English than its original language, and why they emphasize that they're Japanese.

A thrilling attempt to get Takaji to Sato in time. The complicated case of Valentine's Day. Sweet Ran making chocolate. A case that serves as an excuse to insert the horizontal plot with Jodie and Vermouth. Some tables are nice.

I finally found the volume 33 at the bookstore! The Valentine's Day story was both cute and sad, I wish Ran was treated better by Shinichi. Also, I'm glad we got to see Akai AND Jodie!!

One Word Rec.: READ

Aoyama Gosho; DETECTIVE CONAN [Meitantei Conan #33]

e/read online; genre: { manga, mystery, shounen }; shelves: |comics, GN, manga, manhua, manhwa|

General Synopsis:
As mentioned above, I am going to write a proper review for this soon, but I have a few books ahead of this one in the queue, so I cannot stop reading DC NOW! That's sacrilege. I have decided to read all the chapters available up to now (we are almost to 1000!) As you can see, I am totally fangirling over here and I don't care, because this is one of my favorite manga series, ever! But all of this aside, there are a few things I wanted to list so I don't need to go back and look everything up when I do finally sit down and write my fangirl review. ✌🏻

V.33, includes Files 329 - 339

DO NOT click on the spoiler link if you don't want to read all the cases in this volume, because it will ruin it for you. On the other hand, if you're a fan like me or are looking for a certain case (and please note, these are how I have set the cases), etc. click away, that's why it's there.

Another spoiler link, so don't click if you don't want to ruin this manga. I am going to include the characters introduced or as the series continues are in this volume. Personally, I think us DC fans love certain characters more than other (yes, Heiji, I mean you!), so sometimes when we are re-reading this series (like all the time!) you might wish to start at a specific case or start when a certain character is involved.

Characters in this volume:

Personal Opinion:
#1, I never call this CASE CLOSED. If you do, you're not a true fan of this series, so don't even bother reading my review or my personal opinions. I'm sorry if I offend you, but you offended me first by telling me you want to read CASE CLOSED or you just love Jimmy.

#2, as you can tell by #1, I read this online. I would never waste my money buying a manga series in english that cannot get the name correct and mess up the main characters to make it appear more "ENGLISH." I am so happy I don't run a blog and this isn't a review on Sailor Moon, #1, because I have a huge soap box tirade against DiC. I also don't think there is anything against reading something online. Comics, which is what manga are, are meant to be read and shared and sometimes paying over $10 is too much in my opinion. Plus, I read the newest chapters as soon as they are released from Japan, because I would never miss a release of DC. So this is my personal shout out to you translators from me, Thank You!

A RACE AGAINST TIME: TAKAGI’S DESPERATE STRUGGLE
Sato, pressured by her mother, agrees to an arranged marriage meeting—only to find her suitor is none other than Ninzaburo Shiratori. She impulsively sets a challenge: if Takagi fails to reach her by sunset, she will go through with the marriage. Meanwhile, Takagi is entangled in a robbery case, where the suspect vanishes in a restroom, leaving behind only a coat and helmet. With three suspects and conflicting witness testimonies, Takagi must unravel the truth—and make it to Sato before it’s too late.

THE CURSED CHOCOLATE AND A DEADLY SNOWSTORM
Sonoko invites Ran, Conan, and Kogoro to a secluded house in the hills, rumored to bless chocolates with love’s fortune. Among the guests are two hunters seeking the legendary Japanese wolf, the elderly owner of the house, her two assistants, and a male photographer. As a snowstorm traps them inside, the photographer goes missing—only to be found dead by Conan and a dog named Saburo. A chilling clue emerges: the same chocolate made by one of the female assistants is left behind with the corpse. Did love turn into murder?

A WATCH THAT TICKS BEYOND DEATH
A man asks Kogoro to find his late wife’s wind-up watch, but Kogoro dismisses it as trivial. The Detective Boys and Professor Agasa take up the case, leading them to the man’s apartment. As they search, a woman arrives demanding repayment of a loan, then borrows an old film reel she has long sought. Eager to watch it, she plays it on the spot. But soon after, she is found dead, the tape rewound. Though the scene suggests a burglary gone wrong, Conan suspects a far more deliberate and sinister plot lurking beneath the surface.

Ahh, Sato and Takagi. <3 In this volume, my highlight is the case of a mysterious robber. Takagi and Chiba are on the case, but it seems that everyone who saw the person saw someone different. Still, no real problem... until you ad din a side plot. Sato's mom, tired of waiting for grandbabies, threw a bunch of folders with info on potential husbands at Sato, and to appease her, Sato agreed to meet with one, picking it at random out of the pile.

But the person is someone she knows, and Sato ends up making a foolish bet - if Takagi doesn't come save her from the meeting by sundown she'll agree to marry this guy.

I liked this story because more Sato is always welcome, but also because it says some really interesting things about Conan, who chooses to try to help Takagi solve this relatively innocuous case before time runs out.

Not too bad as usual. Though it's not a good sign for a long running series if a case reminds you of a previous case several volumes ago, but just in a different setting. It's a sign of plot points being recycled.
