The story was choppy and very hard to follow. Who goes round writing their telephone numbers in felt tip pen on animals just before a tornado? It was a messy story with thin characters and a pretty stupid premise.
I’m conflicted with this story. Whilst I enjoyed some parts of it, as a whole it just wasn’t my cup of tea. I had a hard time connecting to the heroine. I also didn’t like how the relationship between the two main characters was handled or the overall view of marriage that was portrayed throughout the story. I found it conflicting & it didn’t sit well with my own beliefs. I’m not going to go into detail because I don’t give spoilers. Personally, this was not my favourite but I will say that it ends happily, is a clean read & it does build interest for the follow up stories of other characters mentioned.
This book was just ok. Rhett and his brothers are likable enough, however Evelyn is self centered and Callie is weak. Not much to like. There are some inconsistencies in the story as well. The secondary characters and their storylines get jumbled, with no transitions between events. Tripp goes on a date with Ivory, with no follow up. Suddenly, in chapter 26 we learn they broke up and 3 chapters later they have been dating for several months. Liam, another brother, crushes on Callie, who likes him too, yet it is hinted he is going to dances to meet women. And our main couple, Rhett and Evelyn get married but have almost no interaction in the book! I would suggest a hard pass until an editor strengthens the story.
I have a soft spot for romantic stories, but this one had a premise that seemed a little dumb and immature. With a few eye rolls, I did finish because sometimes you just can’t stop in the middle of a book.
I have been asking myself this question since reading the first chapter. I like the main characters for the most part but there were times I just wanted go slap Evelyn to hopefully knock some sense into her. I don't mind when authors have access from supporting characters POV because I like their outside take on the main character. However, that is not what this author does. She has them sharing their own romantic interests which takes the reader out of this story and into a new one which is frustrating. I also couldn't wrap my head around Jeremiah. His reactions and responses to other people were juvenile, emotional and reminded me of a woman on her period who just got dumped by her longtime lover while sitting on the couch with a tub of ice cream. And what made it even more crazy was all these grown men just act like jeremiah's reactions are just fine and normal. I read the entire story and just can't think it's worth the price the author is asking. Get this for free or not at all.
I enjoy reading about the characters Liz Isaacson creates. The characters are painted with her words on the pages. Each page draws you more into the stories about families working together through life's everyday problems. Each character is looking for answers when the answers are there for them, they just need to open their hearts and minds to them. Their 'hearts' are what's the matter, in their love life, and in submission to doing things God's way.
The heat level in this romance is low; but the angst is high and the romantic tension is on-point. The H & h make love — after marriage and behind closed doors. I’m okay with that. I’ve never thought sex was a spectator sport. This story is romance, not porn. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
This started off pretty cute and I thought it would be easy 4 star read, but there were a few things I just can't overlook. Evelynn's match maker business was actually kind of creepy. The men she tried to set women up with weren't in on the plan. She basically taught women how to become stalkers and engineer meet cutes. Also, Evelynn's inability to communicate caused pretty much all the problems in the story and even if she took a tiny bit of responsibility for it it, she still painted herself a victim and it rubbed me the wrong way. All that said, there were lots of cute moments and I did enjoy the Walker brothers. While we only meet 4 of them here, there's 7 in all and they each get a book, so I could see myself continuing the series.
RHETT’S MAKE-BELIEVE MARRIAGE kicks off the Seven Sons Ranch series with an emotional, intricate, and powerful story of past hurts, faith, and changes to come to all the Walker brothers as they move to Three Rivers, Texas to reset their lives in so many ways — and perhaps to find that love of a lifetime when they least expected it.
Rhett’s first contact with the woman who would come to mean so much to him, and provide him with frustration after frustration came suddenly in the midst of a tornado as Evelyn and her sisters took refuge in the basement/storm cellar of Rhett’s new ranch, not realizing that he had arrived. The spark between Rhett and Evelyn was there as they all huddled together waiting out the storm, yet Evelyn could do little but stare at the man who caused her to become a bundle of nerves and she couldn’t figure out why. The Foster sister’s ranch is suffering as the three sisters are working hard to keep the ranch profitable, each adding their expertise and paychecks together to make this work. Evelyn is a silent matchmaker, one who provides information to women who are looking for that special cowboy to love for life. But her own romantic failures have caused a drastic drop in clients. After all, how could a matchmaker figure out someone else’s love life when they can’t hold onto a boyfriend themselves?
Desperate measures call for desperate actions – and Evelyn is about to ask her best friend, Rhett to marry her, for the business’ sake not for real. And that simple request will open up a storm of emotions, hurt, hope, and if they’re really lucky and hold onto their faith perhaps a love that could last forever. But it’s going to be a frustrating, painfilled road to travel before they get anywhere close to that happy ending.
RHETT’S MAKE-BELIEVE MARRIAGE drew me in from the beginning and kept me firmly in place until the final page. I adored Rhett, he has his reasons for not dating but they’re going out that proverbial window once he met Evelyn. Her request opened the door to perhaps finding that happy ending with the woman he’s coming to love. Evelyn. Oh, this woman frustrated me so much throughout the story. The answer is right in front of her yet she will not make a decision, choose a path, admit that maybe she’s scared but willing to try. It will take her world falling down before she realizes that she’s loved Rhett from the beginning, when it may be too late for happy endings.
I loved this story of intriguing characters, tight-knit families, and the uncertainty of falling in love, of trusting yourself, of giving your heart into the care of another. While I was definitely Team Rhett on this one Evelyn’s growth throughout the story (even when she frustrated me) is a slice of real-life for who among us hasn’t questioned why. I will be following this series since now I need to know how Rhett’s brothers fair in the game of love.
I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.
Wow oh wow. I tell you what, this is definitely the way to write a first book in a series. I was hooked from the very beginning. I mean fake marriage, Texas ranch, and billionaire cowboy brothers. What's not to love? Also I just adored Rhett. Like oh my goodness. There were times I just wanted to shake Evelyn and say "of course you love him! How could you not?!" Like any good romance novel, the ending was predictable, but there were some twists and turns in there.
Since I'm writing this review on delay, I can say with confidence that if you read and enjoy this book, you will not be able to stop reading. I'm about to start the 7th and final book to see how this whole thing wraps up! Highly recommend. Liz Isaacson writes a great sweet and clean romance from a Christian perspective that doesn't feel forced or cheesy.
I loved these characters and I wanted to strangle them all at the same time. Best friends to… roommates? That’s not normally how the story goes. Neither one of them is very good at saying the right thing in the right time, though Rhett’s a lot more courageous about taking the chance to get it wrong. Evelyn’s just a bit too concerned about everyone else’s opinion to be able to fully embrace what her heart wants. Though, I loved watching this pair learn how to figure it out and I’m really looking forward to seeing what else we can see from this new perspective on Three Rivers. I received a complimentary advanced copy of this book from the author.
[1 star] book is just too fast paced to feel any connection between the hero & heroine. and its bloody boring too. and to be honest, the heroine is fucking 40yrs old, and the plan to save her job & clients is to fake marry the hero. bravo for her *clap hands*. i would expect a woman in her twenties to do this plan, not a forty year old. bleh, not reading anything from this author anymore.

I DNF this at about the halfway point. I have no idea how I came across this book in the first place. It must have been the title and description made me think of 7 Brides for 7 Brothers. There were timeline inconsistencies, which bug the hell outta me. The book was all over the place. First were following the main couple of the story, then we get a chapter about other people. We leave off that she's scared to sleep alone and sneaks into his bed, hoping he won't notice. Him kissing her on the forehead, cuddling up and falling asleep. By the time the author mentions them again, they've "made love". WTF! That's not even fade to black. It's just, hey, were in a fake marriage, but we kiss. Ok, now we did it. No build up. This was a Christian romance, but didn't state that in Hoopla's description. They were always talking about church and God and the Lord and praying. Uhg...eyeroll for no heads up. The writing was bad. So much telling and no showing, and not just the lack of sex scenes.

I loved this, right up until the last 3rd of the book. Then the characters started to annoy me. Especially Evelyn. The woman went on and on crying about how much she missed Rhett and their day-to-day life together but not being able to tell if she loved him. And Rhett put a kind of timetable for her to fall in love with him. I get it she led him on by having sex with him, being married to him, and all that but he went into this with his eyes open so he really should have known better. But Evelyn....even after she decided she loved him she didn't tell him, she didn't go to him and apologize and confess. Nope, she moped more. And complained about how much she missed him and had messed up....it made me drop the rating I had in my mind for this until it landed at 3.
I thought when I started this book, it would be a solid 4🌟 but sadly, it's a 3🌟 at best. Without giving any spoilers, the business she runs is a little odd and creepy. The approach to marriage and the solemnity of it is careless.
I did appreciate the spiritual emphasis, but it would have been nice for the main characters to be a little more grounded in their faith.
I'll read the rest of the books, because I like big families and sibling relationships. Hopefully the stories get stronger.
I love the marriage of convenience trope. And I understand that it takes some suspension of disbelief to make it work sometimes, specifically in a modern setting. That's fine.
What didn't work for me was the flippant way marriage was regarded by two characters who professed to be Christians.
They went into the marriage thinking, "we'll get divorced later." Okay. Not exactly in the biblical view of marriage and divorce, but again, suspension of disbelief. But then they consummated it. So at this point, what is "fake" about this marriage exactly? And they're still really flippant about getting a divorce, even though they keep asking God "what should we do?"
This isn't divorce shaming AT ALL. But getting married for selfish reasons with the intention of getting divorced and then really being married in all ways doesn't really seem the way God would set out to do things. It also seemed completely out of character for Evelyn because she has major issues sharing her feelings (which didn't come up until after you're wondering what on earth is wrong with her and why she's hurting the man in front of her), but apparently no issues sharing her bed with a man she's not sure how she feels about?
Yeah, no thanks. A few other things I didn't like (the writing did a LOT of jumping around and a few more logic leaps), but that was the big one. This isn't me imposing my beliefs on a book (I've read and enjoyed plenty of books that don't necessarily align with my beliefs). This is holding this book up to the own morality code it laid out for itself and finding a lot of contradictions. Christians are supposed to hold marriage in high regard and only go to do divorce in painfully extreme cases. This book viewed divorce and marriage as the easy thing you can go to the courthouse to have taken care of. No thanks.
Rhett is one of seven brothers and they are rich after their father sells his business and gives each of his sons hearty portions of the proceeds of the sale. The brothers, each having had some level of disappointment in their love lives make a pact not to date or marry when they get to their new home in Three Rivers.
As soon as Rhett gets into town he is facing a tornado and the three sisters on the ranch next door. They hole up in the root cellar of his home and something clicks between Rhett and Evelynn.
Evelynn runs a pseudo matchmaking business. Girls come to her wanting to meet a guy or find a guy and Evelyn finds a way for the two of them to bump into each other. When she and Rhett become friends, she agrees that his brothers are off limits.
After a year Rhett wants more than for Evelyn to be his best friend, but Evelyn, personal relationship challenged simply wants to save her business, and marriage to Rhett can make that happen - although she does like him.
There was a point in the story where it skipped from being about Rhett and Evelyn and jumped to Tripp and Ivory. It wasn't a smooth transition, I was reading and wondering if I had somehow jumped from one story to another. I don't want their story in the middle of a crisis with Evelyn and Rhett! There were also quite a few editing problems that caused pauses in my reading as I tried to figure out what was being said, extra words or not enough words. If those two things hadn't happened I would definitely give this story five stars.
Rhett’s Make-Believe Wedding: Christmas Brides for Billionaire Brothers: Seven Son’s Ranch in Three Rivers: Romance Book 1 is by Liz Isaacson. This series in about the seven brothers who run Seven Sons Ranch in Three Rivers. The seven sons are now getting married after having problems with getting their woman. Rhett Walker had come to Three Rivers to take possession of the ranch he had purchased for himself and his brothers. However, he didn’t take into account coming in the middle of a tornado warning. Luckily he had been told there was a tornado shelter with the house and that the three ladies on the ranch next door often used the shelter or he would really have been surprised when he discovered three women in the shelter as he reached it. The time in the shelter made it possible for him to meet Callie, Evelyn, and Simone Foster who ran the ranch next door. By the time he got out, he learned that Callie ran the ranch, Evelyn ran a matchmaking business, and Simone redid furniture. When Evelyn’s matchmaking business begins to fail after her boyfriend leaves, she pours her anguish into figuring out how to make it work. She decides getting married should do the trick. Luckily for her, Rhett is willing to help her out by marrying her. Luckily he is already partially in love with her. Will their marriage last?
Another awesome book. The characters are great. Usually it is the guy that has a hard time talking about things that are important but in this book it is the opposite. A great best friends to lovers, fake marriage to help Evelyn's business. Evelyn moves in with Rhett and his brothers after they get married but sleep in separate rooms. Soon they buy their own house and Rhett realizes he is in love with his wife for real and so he tells her. After a couple of months he confronts her about her feelings and when she won't say how she really feels he walks out because he is tired of not knowing if she feels the same or not. Her business starts to fail again because her marriage is falling apart. Will Evelyn realize she truly loves Rhett before she loses him forever? What happens when he files for divorce?
Great new series by Liz Isaacson! The Walker brothers have moved to Seven Sons Ranch. The first time Rhett and Evelyn meet there is an attraction, but Evelyn is dating someone else. When Evelyn ditches her boyfriend her match maker business suffers. She appeals to her best “friend” Rhett to help her match making credibility by agreeing to a make-believe marriage. Rhett is already falling in love with Evelyn and hopes she will have the same feelings. But can you just change over from make believe to real? Both have insecurities and those get in the way. By the time Evelyn realizes that she does love Rhett they are getting a divorce. She must seek God’s guidance on how to make things right. Don’t miss this clean read from Liz Isaacson!
Rhett knows how he feels about Evelyn; he 💕s her, & wants to spend the rest of his life expressing that to her. Rhett just doesn't know if Evelyn 💕s him in return.
Evelyn needs the income from her business, to help her sisters keep their family ranch. But her business is failing. Her solution is to ask Rhett to marry her, so her business will pick up. Evelyn uses her actions to show Rhett her 💕, because she has difficulty expressing her feelings in words.
Evelyn is like most men, & Rhett is like most women. I Highly Recommend Liz Isaacson's "Rhett's Make-Believe Marriage" to find out how Rhett & Evelyn get to their HEA! This is a Great, Engrossing, Christian Western Romance you shouldn't miss!
Rhett just wanted to get away from everything when he bought a ranch that he and his brothers could live on. He had meant to stay single for a very long time... that was until he met Evelyn from the neighboring ranch. But up until very recently, Evelyn had a boyfriend. Now that she's free, he's wondering if what they have, as friends, could become much more.💗🔥💕
This is the first book in the Seven Sons Ranch in Three Rivers series and stands on its own but it will be connected to the rest of the series. 😉❣️
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I really liked Rhett. Evelyn drove me nuts. Then I understood her personality. I still didn't connect much to her. They are a cute couple. IT was a cute and sweet love story. I didn't like how long it took her to figure it out though. I mean seriously she was a matchmaker. Anyway, I did love how they were always praying and it felt real.
Fantastic story! Characters that will steal your heart. A storyline that keeps you on the edge of your seat and glued to your kindle! For me it was a love- hate deal as the characters face their demons. You will feel their emotions and struggles. A definite must read.

Liz Isaacson’s Rhett’s Make-Believe Marriage is the first book in the Seven Sons Ranch: Three Rivers Romance series and makes you excited about the others to come! Rhett didn’t mean to meet his neighbors, the Foster sister in his storm cave during a tornado, but that was the way his luck had been having that day. The three Foster sisters went to secure the property of their new neighbor and had planned on being home when the tornado hit, but being a tornado, it had other ideas. Safe in a cave with a gorgeous man, a gorgeous grumpy man, to share the time with, was not their idea of feeling safe. Evelyn was the matchmaker in town, although a secret one, that’s business was going downhill. Who wanted a matchmaker that couldn’t find a match for herself? But what would happen if her friend Rhett became said husband? Would that make her business better or would it make it worse? And for who? Rhett and his brothers made a pact, no women and no dating, but…some pacts are harder than others to keep, especially when you want to help a friend. So Evelyn and Rhett decide to get married, only on paper, but life has a way of creeping up on you when you least expect it. And can get you in an unusual situation with your brothers. But love can develop when you aren’t’ looking and we get to go along for the ride. A fun and entertaining book to read.
This sweet, contemporary, later in life book is set in a small town where newcomers (the Walker brothers - there are seven of them) buy the ranch right next to the Foster sisters. A friendship is stuck between Evelyn Foster, a thirty nine year old matchmaker and Rhett Walker, a forty three year old forensic veterinarian.
Evelyn's business goes through some challenges when her boyfriend breaks up with her and she is not going out with anyone else - it does not reflect well on her matchmaking abilities, so Rhett volunteers to help her out with a fake marriage. Unfortunately he falls first and wants Evelyn to acknowledge what she feels for him which opens up a whole set of emotional problems.
Evelyn was mix of strong and confused as she battled to articulate and realise her feelings till late in the book. Rhett is a true gentleman and so charming. He was very hurt understandably and it took a while to get to their HEA.
This heartwarming book had angst and explored feelings of inadequacy, it was written in a realistic manner despite the fake marriage situation (because who does that except in fiction). The characters were endearing and likeable especially the other three Walker brothers and the story was well written. This charming story was clean with kisses only and no swearing and is Book 1 of this series. A very enjoyable read.
