Author of over seventy books so far. Living on the beautiful west coast of Scotland with my husband, twin daughters and a cat called Mavis, although I am originally from Lancashire in the north of England.
My tastes in all things are eclectic, which extends to my writing. Although I primarily write crime books - especially gangland thrillers - I also write gothic historical romance and fantasy. I publish on Amazon Kindle and some of my novels are available in paperback too. I also have a traditional publishing contract with Boldwood Books.
When I'm not writing - which isn't very often - I enjoy reading Daphne Du Maurier, Edgar Allan Poe, Shirley Jackson, MR James and the Brontes, among many others. I also enjoy swimming, walking and spending time with my family.
A Savage Inheritance by Heather Atkinson plunges readers into the dark and thrilling world of gangland dynamics. It is the second in the series, which I was not aware of until the end of the book. With intricate plot twists and morally complex characters, the novel explores the brutal realities and consequences of a life entangled in crime with a sprinkle of romance.
This book is a gripping read for fans of gangland thrillers, as well as romantics, depicting how the allure of power and wealth often comes at a significant cost.
I must give a trigger warning to those who do not like graphic violence, this book is not for you.
Jack is depicted as a hardened gang leader, driven by ambition and a desire to maintain control over his empire. His actions are ruthless, and his relationships are fraught with tension. Despite his tough exterior, Jack's vulnerabilities and internal conflicts make him a compelling character. He is madly in love with Carly.
Willing to do about anything to win back her affections. His character highlights the theme that love does not always prevail, as his affection for Carly is constantly tested by their dangerous environment.
But how will this clash with his responsibilities as the leader of the gang? And they all know that you do not just quit the lifestyle.
Carly is a character that embodies both strength and vulnerability. She has left the gangland lifestyle, struggling to find her place in the real world. But how can she protect the ones she loves when she is no longer in the life? Her loyalty to family often puts her at odds with her personal desires and safety. Should she leave the family home all together and pursue her dreams of happiness?
Dean Savage stands out as a complex figure within A Savage Inheritance, embodying the inherent conflicts that arise from a life steeped in crime. Initially depicted as a loyal and ambitious member of the gang, Dean grapples with the expectations placed upon him by his surroundings and his desire for a more meaningful existence. He develops an unhealthy infatuation with his cousin Carly. I know, weird, creepy whatever you want to call it.
The plot of A Savage Inheritance centers around the tumultuous lives of Jack, Carly, and Dean as they navigate the treacherous waters of their gangland existence. The narrative weaves through their personal, professional and love interests struggle, illustrating the toll that a life of crime takes on their relationships and individual psyches.
The story is filled with suspense and dramatic turns that keep readers on the edge of their seats, questioning the stability and future of each character's life. And do not worry, there are plenty of action and fight scenes.
Heather Atkinson masterfully portrays the grim reality of gang life, making A Savage Inheritance an engaging and thought-provoking read. The novel's key themes— the unsustainable nature of a gangland lifestyle, the complexity of family and work relationships, and the often-unfulfilled promise of love—are powerfully conveyed through the characters' experiences.
While the gangland world may seem thrilling from the outside, Atkinson's narrative makes it clear that this lifestyle comes at a great cost. It is a stark reminder that the pursuit of power and control can lead to devastating consequences.
For fans of gangland thrillers, this book offers a deep and realistic portrayal of crime's impact on personal lives, making it a must-read. If you are looking for a story that combines intense action with emotional depth, A Savage Inheritance won't disappoint.

I’m a big fan of gangland crime thrillers, and always have a great time reading them, and this was no exception.
I have read a couple of this author’s books but this is the first one in this series (this is #4) about the Savage Family, and I really enjoyed it. This can be a standalone, as you become aware of what has gone on in the previous books.
The story opens, as Carly Savage and her sisters, Jane and Rose, are attending their father Alec’s funeral. The family work for the handsome, and dangerous new crime boss, Jack Alexander who runs Haghill in Glasgow, Scotland, who just so happens to be Carly’s ex-boyfriend, and the love of her life.
Carly is now the manager of a bar called Death Loves Company, and is trying to stay out of the “life”, but with her family connections, keeps being dragged back into it. When she and her family are threatened, there’s only one thing she can do…which isn’t to lead a quiet life.
This is such a blast, and I was definitely not expecting that ending. I can’t wait to read the others in this series, and eagerly await Heather’s next instalment.
Thanks to Heather Atkinson, Boldwood Books, and NetGalley, for providing me with this free ARC, with which I leave a voluntary review.
Heather Atkinson is back! With the fourth book in The Savage Sisters seris. I have read them all and have been waiting for this book to be released.
The quality of this authors' writing never drops. Whichever genre she is writing, it doesn't matter. The reader is guaranteed a story that keeps the pages turning. This story is set in Glasgow, and we are back with Carly and her family. The death of her father has broken them all. The difference being that these are the Savage family. They lie down for nobody... and maybe people need a reminder.
Carly is planning to get out of the life she is sick of, crime and violence being the way. The only trouble is she can't walk away when her family and herself are under threat.
Heather Atkinson has again delivered a dark and gritty thriller, which had me on the edge of my seat. The character development is still clear to see. Even though this is the fourth book, the character's are still as fresh as they were. I still get invested in them.
I always race through this series. It is fast-paced, exciting, and oh, so tense too. The twists and turns are so well placed, and the conclusion is one that I have to say I wasn't expecting!
The Savage Inheritance is an excellent addition to the series. One which gives the reader the taste of the darker side of Scotland and makes it feel believable too. Thanks to Rachel's Random Resources and Boldwood Books for the gifted ebook to write my honest review.
What another amazing and jaw-dropping book in the Savage Sisters series. If you have read the previous book then you will be aware that the three sisters are Savage by name and savage by nature. They are a force to be reckoned with, they take no prisoners and show no mercy if they are wronged.
After the death of their father, Alex, the sisters are feeling the grief, Rosie the youngest has her boyfriend, Jane her game and girlfriend and Carly, the eldest is feeling the loss. It seems that everyone has someone but her, she and Dean had started to become close but they are cousins so his father Eddie had warned him to back off.
Carly has been very wary of men since her split with Jack Alexander, he had slept with someone else to clinch a deal and it didn't go down well with Carly. Jack is a gang boss and has always wanted to get back together and has never lied to her about that.
There are rumours around Haghill in Glasgow, definitely, a place that sounds like a no-go if you are not known or welcomed there. It doesn't stop some from trying to make their own business there though and it seems that guns are being sold. No one convincingly who is exactly behind this new enterprise, but there is a lot of scheming going on.
The author has once again let the Savage sister run their lives on the pages once again, as much as they are vicious they are true and loyal to each other, family and friends. So when someone decides to threaten Carly you just know the author is not going to let it lie. She soon lets the intensity of the story and the characters show their traits, minds and ideas flow across the page. From one encounter to another, threats are ever present and the dangerous tension is palpable.
This one is just addictive from the start to the finish, what happens in between is amazing. hard-hitting, fast-paced and with violence that you would expect from gangs. From the get-go, you know there are going to be casualties and by the end, there are many twists and red herrings along the way to keep you on your toes.
Another fabulous book in the series and if you are a fan of tough, dark, gangland crime and thriller stories then this is one you want to have a look out for. It is brilliant and it is one I would definitely recommend.
Carly Savage and her sisters Jane and Rose are trying to get over their father’s and Crime Lord’s Alec savage death. With the help of her uncle, they are trying to keep the family business alive. Carly is a manager for a pub called Death Loves company and after her father’s death decides she wants to get out of the family business and move away and start a new life. But that is easily said then done. When old habits dies hard and her ex-boyfriend from Haghill, Glasgow suddenly reappears, and her old feelings return for not only him but is smitten with her cousin Dean. But getting involved with Dean will create too much trouble. So, she gives Jack another chance, but the rest of the family are not too happy about it. When there is also rumours that a rival gang want to kidnap Carly, and her uncle thinks that Jack has something to do with it. A savage inheritance by Heather Atkinson is book 4 in the Savage sisters’ series, which I wasn’t aware of and the first book that I have read from this author. But you can read this as a standalone. This is a fabulous gritty crime drama great for fans of Gangland crime set in Scotland. At first though it did take awhile to get use the Scottish dialect, but I enjoyed it, nevertheless. It has great characters and storyline, and an ending I didn’t see the ending. 4 stars from me.

Carly, Jane and Rose are attending the funeral of their father Alec Savage. Carly wants to get away and start a new life, but it's not that easy. The women are all feisty characters. The family work for crime boss Jack Alexander, Carly's ex-boyfriend, in Glasgow's Haghill. Carly is the manager of a pub called Death Loves Company. This is a well-plotted, gritty, gangland, thrilling read.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #HeatherAtkinson for my ARC of #ASavageInheritance in exchange for an honest review.
Oh wow, such a great story!! I read this book so fast, I couldn't put it down. I was shocked at the twist here.
When Carly, Jane, and Rose's dad, Alec, succumbs to pneumonia and dies just a few months after moving to a living facility, the girls are struggling. Carly especially. With both Jane and Rose in serious relationships, she's living by herself in their old flat. She left the gang life and is happy working at the bar where she's now the manager.
With Jack Alexander, her ex, as her family's new boss she sees him around a lot. She still loves him something fierce, but she was so hurt by his betrayal. But seeing him makes her happy. Even though she once had feelings for Dean, it's nothing like she ever had for Jack. When she agrees to try their relationship again, she's the happiest she's ever been.
But someone around town is setting up Jack. Or are they? What the Savage Family never expected was that it was someone that they had trusted. Will they ever recover?
A must read!
*I received a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
My turn at the book blog tour for A Savage Inheritance By Heather Atkinson 📕♥️📚. 📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚 This book is the 4th in the Savage Sister series. As their dad is no longer with them, the girls struggle to deal with life in general. Carly has made the decision to get out of ‘that life’ but finds herself being pulled back in. Who does she love, who can she trust? Some people turn out to be , not who you think they are!! Heather yet again has written a fantastic & enthralling book. I always find it amazing, how authors can write book series, and it still keeps the readers gripped! Thanks @rachelsrandomresources , @heatheratkinsonauthor @netgalley For allowing me to read & r#eview this ark ♥️📚♥️. #heatheratkinson #savagesisters #netgalley #followback #likesforlikes #boldwoodbookstour #boldwoodbooks
When you say gangland crime, you say Heather Atkinson! This lady really knows how to write the way I like books in this genre to be written!
The punches are flying left, right and center with the Savages either starting the fight or being on the receiving end. Their goal always being the same: to protect their family.
What I also like in this series is the fact that the woman have no problem at all to stand their ground, never backing away even if their adversary is bigger and stronger or if they are outnumbered. They are fierce and feisty and always go all the way.
Between the battles or sometimes even during, there is room for some banter, which always makes me laugh.
And last but not least, the waterworks were activated too...
If you like the genre, you will agree this is an excellent series with each book being a fine piece of art. 5 stars
A Savage Inheritance by Heather Atkinson has been one of the best gangland series to get your teeth into. I have loved this series from the very first book about the Savage Sisters and this is the 4th book! This book is a real page turner, with full of great twists and turns.....Fantastic instalment of the Savage sisters and what happens next to them Especially with the sudden death of Carly, Jane and Rose dad they are heartbroken. But nothing keeps them down for long, before you know it they are all back on form and rearing to go. Now, Jane and her gang The Unbeatable Bitches, and along with their uncle Eddie, and cousins Dean and Harry they are determined to fight to keep the Savage family on top.
This book is so good and I highly recommend these books. You will not be disappointed!
Big Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood books for my ARC.
A Savage Inheritance is Book 4 in the Savage Sisters series and it follows the others in being just as gritty, fast paced and is another cracking read.
The Savage Sisters are suffering the loss of their father at the beginning of this book and the storylines develop showing Carly making some key decisions about her love life and Rose showing that she certainly isn't the little sister that needs protecting from 'the life' anymore.
There's gun dealing and double crossing which means the sisters don't know who to trust at points but the truth comes to light and tough decisions have to be made.
I'm hoping that we haven't come to the end of this series as it seems like there may be much more to come for the sisters yet!
Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this book.
Once again, this is another thrilling book from Heather Atkinson. I'm loving this series—this is the fourth. I have read all of the others. She really has a talent and writes what she knows her readers will enjoy.
Gangland crime and so much more. There was a part in it when i had to swallow a lump in my throat but only a little. The rest of it will blast through you. Savage sisters live by their name Led by Jane and her gang The Bitches, with other members of the savage family, take their knocks but keep coming back. Survival is the main objective, They are determined to fight to keep the Savage family on top. Gritty, Punchy, Crime, will keep you coming back for more. You will not be bored reading these books.
Carly has left the gang life and is grieving for her father and while she is torn between two men her cousin Dean and crime boss Jack, her sisters have their own lives and Carly feels alone. Omg this is my most favourite book of the series, I thought the first one was excellent but this far exceeds it! It has all the regular gang wars and more. I felt for Carly and this is the first book of this genre that has made me cry. It's a heart pounding and emotional ride. The ending well I did not at all see that coming! I still don't know how I feel about it as I am trying to process it but it is damn good! A mind blowing conclusion.
This book drops you head first into the gritty world of gangland crime, where love, power, and loyalty come at a high price. Jack, a ruthless gang leader, is torn between maintaining control of his empire and his love for Carly, who has left the criminal life behind. As she struggles to find peace, Carly’s loyalty to her family keeps pulling her back into danger, while Dean Savage, a conflicted gang member, grapples with his infatuation for her. With suspense, action, and emotional depth, this novel explores the personal toll of living in a world of crime.
The Savage sisters are grieving the death of their beloved Dad Alec. It seems as soon as he’s laid to rest every thing starts to happen. Carly’s ex boyfriend Jack is now deeper into the gangland business. Does she want him back or what about her feelings for her cousin Dean. This book is so fast paced with lots going on in a rollercoaster of an emotional ride. Who can the family trust and who is lying to their faces. Will they ever get to the bottom of everything that’s happening in Haghill at the moment. This is a great series that I highly recommend a well deserved ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️read.
I have enjoyed every book in this series, but this one is a very addictive read with a few shocks' twists. Carley and her sisters are in their father. who they loved very much. but then someone starts targeting Carley. Jack still loves Carley, and he will do everything to protect her, but someone is using Jacks name to get what they want, the savage family have to work out who they can trust. I cried at the end of this book I do hope there is more yet to come from this series.
If you like your gangland thrillers, then this is one for you. Set in Glasgow, featuring Carly and the Savage family, it is a bit of a rollercoaster of a read. This is the fourth book in the series and the best yet with excellent character development and twist plotting. Throw in some romance and it is the full package you would want in a thriller. The unexpected twist at the end left me wanting more. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.
I didn't enjoy the Savage sisters as much as other books by the author. It is so far fetched that a girl gang called unbeatable bitches can beat any man whatever his size. Just a punch from a girl can knock a man out, and a baton can break bones so easily. Sorry but this seems so immature and they never get injured. I have read all of Martina Cole, kimberley chambers and several other similar authors but this is the worst I have read. Will definately not be reading the next one
This is the 4th book in the savage series And I wasn’t disappointed It was jaw dropping from the first page to last one There was a twist in the book that I didn’t see coming and god what a shocker I really hope there will be a 5th book Cause I have loved reading these books I give it a 10 from me, Brilliant Worth so much more than the 5 stars can give
I didn't enjoy this one as much as I did the other three books in the series, I think it dragged on a bit. Tbf I was glad that Rose's character came into her role because she was definitely more than capable considering she's a savage sister too.
Can't wait for another Heather Atkinson book to really get lost in😝😝😝
Another gripping instalment from the Savage sisters. As always the story keeps you on your toes and it's hard to put down. I won't spoil it, but it's definitely worth the read.
Riveting, and beautiful, a very poignant ending to this extraordinary tale.
What is expected from this outstanding author. A fast paced unputdownable edition of this series. A suitably crafted story of unforfilled love and obsession. Well worth a read.
Every time I finish a book by Heather Atkinson I’m sad until next instalment arrives. All 4 of these books were exceptional I can’t believe the Savage sisters are finished 😢😢😢😢. Now on to Blaggers Code
😳😳 Well, I DID NOT see that coming! What a twist 🤯 this series is getting better and I can't wait to see what's in store for the Savage Sisters in the next book
Gripped me from the start. One of the best series I read in a long time, kept you page turning, my poor eyes are so heavy as I couldn't put the book down.
I loved the Savage family wen Carly eventually found someone to love and who loved her I was cruelly snatched away. I hope there's another book in this series
