This was a 10-book binge. I wrote individual reviews for the first couple of books and then decided to simply review the series as a single whole. What do you say about book 7, after all, that hasn’t been said already?
I read 10 books; I obviously enjoyed the series. I also thought it got stronger as it went along. Kyra was an engaging, loyal main character with realistic flaws that meant she didn’t feel like a Mary Sue. The romance was secondary to the plot but contributed a lot to the story. Though I never felt I knew Mason well, I liked him and thought he was a good match for Kyra. There were interesting side characters and tons of cute critters. I’d probably keep going if there were more books. As it is, I’ll just have to try some of McDougall’s (or her alternative pen name, Eliza Crowe’s) series.

End of the series
This book is a perfect ending of the series. I am sad it has to end. I do love the characters growth throughout the series. To see how far they have all come. Happy ever after is not realistic. The ending provides closure on the over arching plot and wraps up nicely.

This review is hard to write and a bit of a ramble so I'll beg your forgiveness in advance. Where to begin... I had planned to read a couple of books by other authors once I finished reading Unicorns Don't Cry (book 8 of the Valkyrie Bestiary series) but that plan went out the window. I had to stay in this crazy, wild, beautiful world a bit longer - with these characters that I have grown to love. So, I read Worlds Don't Collide. (And Tales from the In-Between but I'll get to that later.)
For the record, I don't like vampires - or rather, most vampires. I really despise demons. Not since the days of Anne Rice have I intentionally read books where those types of characters figure prominently in a story. (Different era; less fragile psyche.) Worlds Don't Collide takes us deep into the world and evil minds of vampires whose main goal is to become god-like and dominate all mankind.
Kyra was previously tasked by Terra to wipe out all of these evil blood suckers but now the task has become more urgent. The time to complete this task is counting down with dire consequences if she and her loyal companions and allies fail. One of her 'children' was taken and she will do whatever it takes to bring her back. An epic battle ensues.
This book made me feel such strong emotions. I cried along with Kyra and Mason with each friend lost and wished I could reach out to the author to beg her to rewrite the story to keep them with us. One in particular hit me the hardest.
Early on in the series, Jacoby, our precious dervish, wormed his way into my heart. I didn't think it was possible to love him more. He's right up there with Kyra and Mason as one of my favorite characters ever.
It was bittersweet reading the final words of this book knowing that there would be no new adventures to come. There are, however, a couple of short prequel-ish, in-between-ish stories that I've yet to read, including Thorn of Vioska, and I have already started. The conclusion of this series was unpredictable and, as I mentioned above, I wish certain characters had survived the battles. Beyond that, the story was satisfying and so very good. This entire series is worthy of all the stars and worth reading more than once. Very very well done, indeed!

Worlds Don't Collide is the ninth and sadly, last book, in the Valkyrie Bestiary series and it truly does the series justice! Kyra was tasked with ridding the area of opjis, aka vampires, by Terra, and it's finally time for that battle. She and Mason have been tirelessly working to raise allies for the upcoming battle, but of course it never looks like enough. Nevertheless, they've run out of time, because if they don't start the war and stop the plans of the evil vampire mage leader, the world could be destroyed. All Kyra really wants to do is protect her friends and family, but somehow she ended up leading this war. She'll meet the assignment head on, but will she and Mason succeed?
It's always a little hard for me to start the last book in a beloved series, and this book was no exception. However, once I started it, I could not stop, there was just so much happening that I couldn't put it down. Kyra and Mason are working so hard to raise allies, but the opjis have put a horrible plan into motion. There's a ton of stuff going on, and there are points where you just can't see how things are going to work out in Kyra's favor. I don't want to give any spoilers away, but I will say that I was happy with how almost everything worked out. I say almost everything because you know when there's an epic battle there's going to be some heartbreaking losses, and that always sucks. This book also concludes the shar-lil's story, which was a little bittersweet, but I still liked how that turned out. I really enjoyed this series and I'm sad to see it end but I feel the author tied up all the threads nicely and really did justice to the series. If you've been waiting to read this series until it was finished, now is definitely the time to start, you will not be disappointed! I'm sad that it's over but I can't wait to see what the author writes next!

I will start of by saying, I got this on Audible and am ashamed I almost forgot to listen to it!!! I have loved every book in this series and this book was no exception. Kyra and Mason must build an army to defeat the vampires. War is certain and they aren't sure they can do it. They must contact anyone they can to come to their aid. But the vampires make the first strike while they are still gathering forces. With Shar missing and in the hands of the vampires, it's a race against time to save the world.
OMG, this book has it all! Friendship, family, war, heartache... you name it! It was such a perfect ending to this series. Kyra has finally learned that she needs more than just herself and so many reasons (family and friends) to keep her going. Mason is back to himself thanks to Terra and some time to adjust. Emil is still grieving, but wanting to be useful he volunteers for a deadly mission. This book spans quite a bit of time but the flow of the story works. And once there is action, it is a battle of epic proportions. Kyra and her "army" must get past the Opji wards and there are a lot of Hail Mary attacks.
I don't know what else to say about this book other than I almost cried during parts of it! I have become so invested in these characters that I was on the edge of my seat waiting to find out who would be ok and who would not. And as if my emotions weren't enough, poor Jacoby about sent me over the edge! What a wild ride of a series and if it had to end, this was the best way it could have ended!

4½ stars - perfect wrap up to a fun series
Worlds Don't Collide was a beautiful, fitting ending to the Valkyrie Bestiary series. It felt as if everything Kyra has done throughout the previous eight books had a role to play here. There were laugh out loud moments, but also many moments that brought tears to my eyes. It was fun to see the return of characters from previous books and novellas. This has been such a fun series, one of the first I picked up when I started Kindle Unlimited not long after Book 1, Dragons Don't Eat Meat, was released. I have loved going on this journey with Kyra, Mason, and their family of beasties big and small. If you are thinking about reading this series, I recommend it. It is an easy read with fun characters, and the many different creatures steal the scene. It has some of the most interesting and unique worldbuilding, a future dystopian society where magic has basically caused the end of the world as we knew it. With this book, it's a completed series! Thank you to Kim McDougall for writing this exciting ride. I will definitely be checking out more by this author. I'll miss Kyra and crew, but this really was a fitting end to the story.

This was a great story. It's very well written with so many great characters. It's certainly a page turner. I didn't want to put it down. Kyra & Mason make an awesome team in their fight against evil creatures.
Now the fight with the Opji is on. These super Vamps have a plan and won't stop until they succeed. Kyra & Mason are gathering an army and gearing up for the war that is unavoidable. Kyra is so worried about her family and Shar because the Opji already tried to crack her little coconut shell once. She sends her daughter away to a safe place so the Opji have no chance to get her. Raven & Jacoby the fire dervish want to help but Kyra is torn. She has come to love Raven and as far as she is concerned he is her son. Jacoby also holds a place in her heart and she has to admit the little dervish is a great help. Mason & Kyra discuss it and agree they can help but they lay down strict rules. As the army gathers, they struggle with a plan of attack because the Opji have made it possible to see anyone that approaches from all sides. As if that's not enough, Kyra has to get Tara to the castle to retrieve her power back from the Opji who stole it.
The ending was absolutely outstanding and I really hope there is more to come because I am hooked.

Gleeful Goblin Review: I knew going into this story it was going to be a wild emotional rollercoaster. The culmination of a series I love (and I LOVE this one) is always bittersweet because all stories have an end but rarely are any of us ready for that end. With how much change Kyra and her collected family/friends/critters have gone through to get to this point and with such a daunting threat from the opji there was bound to be high emotional stakes. A standout moment for me that hit me right in the feels was this conversation between Kyra and Emil: “It’s going to be a rough road for you. Winter will make travel nearly impossible.” I hugged myself, already feeling the cold seeping into my bones. Emil seemed unaffected. He gazed toward the road. “You once told me that misfits change the world.” He finally turned to look at me. “This is my chance. I might not change the whole world, but I can do something to improve this little corner of it.”
It is always bittersweet to finish a series and this one is no exception. This amazing world of misfits has brought me immeasurable joy and I'm so grateful to have been a part of their journey. 5/5 Stars

May 29, 2024This is the last book in the Valkyie Series. I rec'd an ARC to do a review of it. I love this series. Kyra and Mason are my favorite couple right now. That will change with my next book, I am sure!
I loved this book. It clears up almost everything that needed to be. Ms. McDougall writes believable stories with characters you care about. Because the book has not been released yet, I will not go into highlights of the story, like this is a book report for high school. However, I will say the book kept me interested and I stayed up too late to finish it. And now the series is over. I am truly sad about that. I am hoping for some short stories about Holly and Raven....even Terra. Emil and Avie would be nice too.
I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes urban fantasy and slightly dystopic fiction. The whole series rocks!

The battle against the vampires begins, and this book brought me to tears. The characters we lose in this are big and little. It shows no one is exempt. Not much critter wrangling in this book but this battle is as much to protect them as it is the folks on Earth. Our favourite little dervish graduates his apprenticeship amongst the craziness. Raven is also with the team on the front line, although the compromise is for him to stay with the medical teams at the hospital site they know will be needed. And we see Oli and the thunder of Dragons once more. Emile finally establishes his life's purpose. So much good comes from the sadness and despair.
I will miss this bunch of craziness and hope maybe a short novella may follow in due time to show Holly's development, and maybe more siblings lol.

Wow! What a read, and what a fitting end to a stellar series. I've read them all and have thoroughly enjoyed the journey
I laughed, cried, and sat on the edge of my seat through this one. I'm so sad to leave these characters and the critters they love behind and yet the book ended in such a way that I can imagine the main characters settling into the 'normal' life they crave I think we were brought there in stellar fashion.
If this is your first Valkyrie Bestiary book, go back my friend. Read them all. You will be happy you did. This is a world that has been built with care. These characters are my friends and will stay with me. Thanks for the artistry that brought these books to life.

Fantastic conclusion!
Worlds Don’t Collide is the last episode in the marvelous series Valkyrie Bestiary. I have spent years waiting and then consuming with joy each book. I have rooted for the FMC, Kyra, in all manner of situations and dangers. MMC Mason is a flawed but wonderful character that I can only cheer for because his love for his family is what we all want for ourselves. I’m a little bit sad that this is the end but it is a very satisfying conclusion. The story that the extremely talented and imaginative author, Kim McDougall is amazing throughout the entire series. I highly recommend it and suggest the reader begin with book one to enjoy all of the details.

A satisfying conclusion
Worlds Don’t Collide, while sad to say goodbye to beloved characters, provides a satisfying conclusion to a wonderful series. Kyra and Mason work together with the friends and allies they have made over the years to defeat an enemy that has total destruction on their agenda. The odds are against Kyra and her ragtag army, but to save her family, Montreal and even Terra, there is no turning back from the challenge. I couldn’t stop reading until I reached the last page. If you are a fan of Kyra and her adventures, you will love this one, too.

World’s Don’t Collide
Book 9 of the Valkyrie Bestiary Series, World’s Don’t Collide is an excellent conclusion to the series.
If you have not read the previous books in this series please go back and start with book one and read each of the other books. The author has carefully built a world with fully constructed characters you will become invested in.
Kyra has been tasked with purging Opjis/Vampires by the goddess Terra and this book details how Kyra, Mason, and their allies take the war to the Opjis. Kyra wants to protect her family and loved ones against the dark magic of the vampires and the a
battles are intense.
The author Kim ties together all the threads from the previous books, there are some tragic losses, but ultimately the book ends on a positive note. There is also a hint of a potential return to this world sometime in the future through Kim and Mason’s 3 year old daughter Holly.
This book is a definite 5 star.

Beautiful ending
This series has been a real journey, I laughed and loved and oh boy did I cry…. A truly unique series which has held me captive and released me feeling satisfied with the series end.
Kyra’s love for her critters remains a strong bond that has been a constant throughout. The author has made me envy Kyra’s relationship with her husband and feel her connection to her children, but mostly she has given me an escape into the Inbetween. I will miss it, but now I will seek out her other worlds and step through the portal to see what I can find…

Wonderful Series
Although it appears the story had come to an end there is the possibility for more as baby Holly demonstrates her gifts in the final paragraph. Despite all the deviation & death there is some happiness & life after this final battle. There may even be room for the governing bodies to accept a new ward and include one more party in parliament. Ultimately to fight a scourge they had to stop infighting. They had to believe in each other and they had to have a world left to live in.

Awesome!
Such a great story to say good bye to the series. I will continue to wonder what lies ahead for little Holly and her powerful magical essence, and the strength of Kyra and Masons love. But all good things must come to an end and I will look forward to revisiting this exciting world in re-reads! Kim has brought so many new critters into existence in her world that one must visit them again!

Thank you
It is rare to find a series so compelling and so complete. Kyra and Mason join the romances I cherish for their humanity, the very °realness° of their love. So what if they are a gargoyle and a valkyrie? They are us. That is what fulfills the promise of the best of urban fantasy/post apocalyptic tales. They posit a way forward as so as to entertain in the best ways.
Thank you for sharing them with us.

This was a brilliant ending to the series!
Everything is wrapped up, and the characters have a somewhat happy ending. I've loved this series so much, I can't even say how much!
Anyway, this was a brilliant wrap up to a brilliant series, and although this is short, I hope you feel the love I have for it!
I'm sad to see Kyra and her menagerie go. It's been a great ride!

Wow.
This is the final book in the delightful Valkyrie Bestiary series, and it goes out with a bang.
Basically the entire book is preparation for war and then the war. The battles are described with appropriate pain. There is great loss. There are unexpected recoveries. There are deaths of beloved characters.
The conclusions are satisfying.
An excellent book, indeed. Absolutely recommended.

Awesome Series
I am sad this is the last book in the series. I have enjoyed reading every word of each of the 9 books plus 4 short stories. It was a satisfying end but oh, it would be so nice to read more critter wrangling with Jacobs taking on a more important role. I love that little dervish. And Cletus, the unicorn. I need to hear that he feels happy now, or at least is over his ptsd. Maybe some day we will get more.

A perfect ending to a wonderful series!
Endings are hard. Hard to read, hard to write, and hard to go through. But this book conveys it perfectly. Bittersweet because it's goodbye, but written so well!
A final battle with real losses, but also unexpected gains, and new hope for the future.
So many final books are a let down, but this one absolutely shines!
🤗 Thank you, Ms McDougall for the fun and engaging ride.

While I am sad to see this, series end, this, was the perfect send off. I have enjoyed watching Kyra and her found family grow and change. I have loved all the wonderful species in this series and will miss the amazing descriptions and personalities of them. You definitely need to read this series if you love adventure, humor and found family.

Emotional roller coaster-Wow
What a conclusion! This was the only one that took me longer to read through but in a good way ! I just had to decompress a bit after spots as she really makes you feel what the characters are going through. Yes sometimes you just have to fight the good fight to do whatever is necessary for family, life, freedom, and the future.

wonderfully original!
Adventure, morality lessons (nod to Terry Goodkind), magical love story, tragic conflicts and Tolkien-worthy war—this woman-led tale will keep you enthralled throughout its nine-book series. You will love the characters, no matter their species, and be fulfilled and satisfied by the end. Cheers to Kim McDougall.

Valkyrie
I read all 9 books and am looking forward to more from this author. I remained totally focused and interested in the characters and plots of each book. I would recommend to others these books. They are full of love, laughter, sadness and every day problems for Valkyrie and her family and friends. Its a world unlike others. Very creative work. Loved it.

Okay, let me start by saying this was not my favorite book in this series! Not because it wasn't A great story, cause it was! But because it was the last! We will so miss Kyra and the gang! But it does have a very happily ever after ending, and I so appreciate that!

wow just wow
The best ending. This book was hard to read. War sucks. But evil exists, and the good have to fight it and sometimes they don’t make it and sometimes they do. Never forget that evil exists but so does good.

A Fantastic Adventure
It was thrilling to follow Kyra and Mason to this stage of their journey. Loved getting to know their extended family. An exciting yet heartfelt series, sorry that it has ended but looking forward to reading more from Kim McDougall.
