Office worker Riko Kozakura lives to play video games, but her life changed forever when she adopted a kitten! Now she has two cats and takes lessons from video games to help raise them.
Office worker Riko Kozakura continues to learn and grow with her two cats. With twice the fun, twice the laughs, and twice the trouble, Kozakura has her work cut out for her! “Leveling up” in skills, surprises, and adventures, Riko discovers what it’s like living with two cats!
This series is the cutest, most wholesome manga I've ever read! It's a nice easy read and as a cat lover it's fun to see all the same habits of my cats in manga form!
One volume until we finish and I think, truly, that that’s for the best. This series alternates between being terribly fun and okay fun, but I think much longer and it’ll run out of steam (at least they won’t keep adding cats).
Even this volume has a slight hint of quietly scraping the bottom of the barrel as far as the premise goes. The parodies are okay, but sometimes veer a little harder to the zany than I cared for.
The entire Metal Gear Solid chapter is just way too silly for my own tastes. Similarly the Ace Attorney one has an okay idea that it doesn’t do quite enough with.
When focused on the cats being cats, things work better. Soboro doing classic cat things to a keyboard and Kozakura learning the joys of getting her pets high on catnip are solid chapters.
The switch to remote work also feels like it takes up way too much space here. It gets one fantastic chapter at the start, but then embraces it as the core premise and if you’re like me you’ve probably had your fill of ‘wacky stuff happens on a Zoom call’ for the rest of your natural life.
I love how both cats have very distinct personalities. Soboro is stubby and doesn’t let anything really phase her, while Musubi is a bit more high strung and wary. She’s also more playful while he leans towards the mischievous.
Hey, it’s fine, but there have been better volumes. I don’t think it’s a letdown, but it didn’t thoroughly entertain to the extent that some other instalments have.
3 stars - okay, not great, some strong moments but not enough to make it stand out (or even alongside in some cases) from what’s come before in the series.
Cat + Gamer by Wataru Nadatani (Vol 6-7) Writing: A Art: A Story: A- Characters: A Setting: A- Best Aspect: Cats- they are the best. Worst Aspect: The sections where the cats ‘talk’ could be a little longer. Recommend: Yes.
If you love cats and you love gaming you have to read this, I have LOVED every single vol, and I am so happy to have it in my collection, definitely makes you giggle out loud!
Another cute and fun installment of the Cat + Gamer series! This one feels more like a series of vignettes instead of a continual plot, which worked well for me. I appreciated having different topics covered. In this one, there's a nod to working from home on a hybrid schedule, and I really liked the (very real) reactions of the co-workers to having the cats appear onscreen.
this series never fails to make me smile, and i found myself laughing throughout this volume. very cute and wholesome, and i love the little parts from the cat's perspectives.
Cat + Gamer Volume 7 was another excellent installment in the Cat + Gamer series following Riko's life with her two cats.
Riko Kozakura has leveled up her cat skills and settled into life with her two cats Musubi and Soboro. But when Riko's job decides to implement remote work, Riko must now learn how to resist the temptation to play with the cats when she's supposed to be working. But Musubi and Soboro don't understand Riko is working and think she's home to spend more time with them.
The Cat + Gamer series has quickly become one of my favorite manga series and this volume was just as fantastic as the previous ones. The book opens with a few fun stories connecting the cats activities to the games Riko is playing. First Riko plays hide and seek with Soboro where she learns Soboro isn't nearly as good at hiding as Musubi. Then one of the cats makes a mess in the kitchen and Riko plays detective to catch the culprit. After that we see Riko having to adjust to working from home which she finds difficult as there are a lot of temptations at home between the cats and gaming. This also led to a few fun moments where the cats intruded on her work day and she found out her manager is also a cat owner. There were a few bonus scenes from the cats' points of view which were delightful. These bonus scenes are some of my favorite parts of this manga series as getting the cats' reactions to Riko's antics are a ton of fun.
Overall Cat + Gamer Volume 7 was a great read and I'm looking forward to picking up the final volume when it releases later this year.
Riko is playing an addictive video game with hide and seek characters, and then realize her own cats are also playing hide and seek. We used to have a cat which was so good at playing hide and seek, I thought this was unusual. First time I see this in fiction, fun to know this is something cats actually love doing!
Chapter 57 was so fabulous! In her video game, Riko has to investigate a crime, then she hears a fantastic crash and finds her kitchen to be a total disaster scene. Of course, it has to be one of the cats. But which one, what happened, and what was its motive? She uses all her detective logic to try to identify the culprit. Can she do it?
I also love the last sentence of the bonus scene: “and then there were none” - after the crash, the cats have of course disappeared from the crime scene.
Her company has adopted remote work. So she has to learn how to work from home, when there are so many temptations around: video games, and two cats who constantly want to play when their mistress is home for so long. And you know how cats love sitting on your laptop… and sending interesting messages to your work team!
I so love this series, so creative, never two stories alike! She tries at one point to hide in a big cardboard to approach a place undetected, but cats are very smart and their sense are high developped!!
Kozakura starts working from home and has to figure out how to resist the temptation to play with her cats and play video games while at home. She’ll need her gaming skills to discover the culprit who made the mess in the kitchen, lure them to use the scratching post instead of the walls, and get them in their carriers to go to the vet.
Another delightful, feel good collection of daily life adventures with Kozakura, Musubi, and Soboro. I was so sad when I read on the last page of this volume that there’s only 1 more volume in the series. NOOOO!!! Guess I’ll have to start re-reading them sporadically after that volume.
Notes on content: Language: 1 minor swear. Sexual content: None Violence: Kozakura plays an online shooting game at one point and tag game in another that eliminates other players. Nothing gory on page. Ethnic diversity: All humans are Japanese. LGBTQ+ content: None Other: Some good conversations about recognizing addictive tendencies and setting boundaries in place.

Another fantastically adorable collection featuring Musubi, Soboro, and Kozakura. Join Kozakura as she solves mysteries, adapts to working from home, works on her stealth skills, and enjoys the life of a cat person.
This is such an adorably fun series. From detective games to stealth games, this volume explores a variety of ways gaming can be applied to cats.
Includes highly relatable cat interactions such as work from home temptations, vet trips, and the love of that fresh cat smell. I really enjoy the Bonus Stages from the cats' point of view.
Humorous and delightful. Absolutely adorable. Such a fantastic series for those who love games and cats.
