The Blue Order and the Pendragon Accords kept England safe from the threat of dragon war since the days of Uther Pendragon and Dewi.
Until now.
Bad enough to face a dragon war, but to be the only man able to change its course? Frederick Wentworth faces the unthinkable.
Not what he signed on for when he accepted his title as baronet.
Sir Walter Elliot's arrival brings a different sort of war to Lyme when he demands his daughter Anne Wentworth resolve his latest crisis. But Anne and dragon Kellynch have far more serious matters to attend to as they discover yet another, unexpected battleground developing in the impending conflict.
Dragons behaving badly hardly describes the atrocities Anne discovers. Can Anne, Wentworth and Kellynch and their dragon Friends navigate a way through uncharted waters to avert a war that could devastate the entire kingdom?
A fresh new gas lamp fantasy adventure in the engrossingly intricate world of Jane Austen’s Dragons. Anne McCaffrey meets Jane Austen, a perfect mix for dragon lovers and regency-era fans alike.
Six time BRAG Medallion Honoree, #1 Best-selling Historical Fantasy author Maria Grace has her PhD in Educational Psychology and is a 16-year veteran of the university classroom where she taught courses in human growth and development, learning, test development and counseling. None of which have anything to do with her undergraduate studies in economics/sociology/managerial studies/behavior sciences. She pretends to be a mild-mannered writer/cat-lady, but most of her vacations require helmets and waivers or historical costumes, usually not at the same time.
She stumbled into Jane Austen fan-dom in the mid '90s with Emma Thompson's Sense and Sensibility film, having somehow graduated HS without ever having read Austen. It was only a short leap then to consume all of Austen's works, in all their various media forms. In the hopes of discovering more works by Austen, she stumbled into the fan fiction forums, which naturally led to asking 'What if...' herself. Twenty nine books later, she still asks that question.
She writes gaslamp fantasy, historical romance and non-fiction to help justify her research addiction.
This series has not lost one iota of momentum. The story arc continues to be as exciting as ever.
Wentworth has now been recruited to be a Drago Slayer, which means if he is forced to use the weapon he’s been given his name will become anathema to all dragon kind no matter why he’s been given the assignment.
The action once again forces a separation between Anne and Wentworth. He leaves knowing full well he may not return. It’s a very sad time for them. Left behind at home, Anne had plenty of things she needed to do but fate had a shipload of things dumped on her to deal with.
There are some characters that we come to love and appreciate even more as they support her. And there are also characters who we learn more about who are dealing with the show down Wentworth has been sent to deal with. Annoying on one hand, helpful on the other.
I’m being deliberately vague here as to not spoil the plot for readers who have been following this series from the beginning. And for those who haven’t read it yet I hope the take away is that A.) they need to read this marvelous series from the beginning, and B) it’s worth it to invest the time into reading it because by book 14 it’s still going strong and still thrilling it’s readers.
Highly recommended. And highly recommend reading it from book 1.
The conflagration has arrived and valiant, but very human Captain Wentworth is placed at the center of three major dragons’ confrontation. Maria Grace has written a series with a sensational cycle of mini climaxes while driving forward with dominant series plot threads. Here we arrive again at just such a point and it was not disappointing.
Dragons at Land’s End is fourteenth in an interconnect Jane Austen’s Dragons Gaslamp fantasy series. The previous book, Secrets in the Dragon Archives left off at a precipitous point. Now, Wentworth is finally given his marching orders by the Blue Order Dragon Council. He will be second to Cownt Matlock the fire dragon who will be going to Land’s End to confront a spoilt princely dragon, Cornwall, overstepping and grasping at more power than is his to have. Wentworth does not expect to survive a dual of fire dragons. Back at Kellynch-by-the-Sea, Anne is forced to face down the arrival of her grasping, oblivious father and older sister, figure out how to keep Kellynch on the road to recover after his battle in Lyme bay, sort out a wild wyrm issue, and deal with a Blue Order rep who doesn’t respect her authority because she’s a woman. And, then things get more complicated.
The threat and tension were high in this one. Anne and Wentworth were working separately for most of the book and dealing with heavy matters involving many dragons. The dragon world Maria Grace created and augments in each installment is fascinating as can be especially when human and dragon interactions are involved. I’ve enjoyed this husband and wife partnership and how they face each new struggle and conflict. They are apart, but still working as a team. There were hints of big troubles going on with the Dragon Sage, Elizabeth Darcy, but also several unusual incidents around the kingdom that need investigating. But, above all, there is coming a challenge to the dragon throne, and I can hardly wait for all that is coming next.
Regency era manners mixed with a carefully crafted dragon fantasy world in this well-established series that I highly recommend.
My full review will post at The Reading Frenzy 3.31.25.
Well, things have taken a real turn! What started out as a fairly light hearted JAFF SFF mashup has become a gripping series in its own right.
We turn back to Anne and Wentworth (the Darcys having issues of their own) and matters with Anne’s family, Cornwall, and the issue of the minor dragons, are coming to a head.
It’s very enthralling and I can’t wait for the next installment.
Action Packed Continuation of this Amazing Series!
As always, Maria Grace has written an exciting and engrossing tale from the world of the Blue Order. The Jane Austen's Dragons series always jumps to the top of my TBR as soon as a new one is released. Dragons at Land's End was an especially action-packed addition to the series. The book continues soon after the previous one left off. The last few books have been building on a complex storyline involving sea dragons, a major dragon overstepping his bounds within the Order, and the discovery of new documents that may shake the foundation of the Order as we know it. What always gets me about these books is the depth of worldbuilding and the intricacy of the Blue Order and the dynamics of dragon dominance that Grace has created. The fact that this incredible fantasy/alt. history, Regency Era England complete with dragons, is also a Pride & Prejudice/Sense & Sensibility derivative makes it that much more interesting. I have so enjoyed seeing Elizabeth, Darcy, Lydia, Georgiana, Anne, Wentworth, and many other characters from Austen's books undergoing beautiful character arcs and growth. I am always excited when a new entry in this unique series pops up in my feed. Five out of five stars! I cannot recommend this series highly enough, though you will certainly want to begin with the first one, which happens to be free on Kindle. The rest of the series is available on Kindle Unlimited, but I honestly love these books enough that I hope to buy them in hard copy at some point!
This was probably the best story of the dragon series. I neglected sleep and housecleaning to read it. Anne and Wentworth spent very little time together. Balen was their messenger. Kellylynch recovery was slow. The appearance of her father and sister only added to Anne's stress. Her father cared nothing about dragons and had caused harm to fairy dragons in Bath which caused some rogue dragons to set his house on fire. Anne rented them rooms in an inn. Legally Anne and Wentworth could not help her family financially, nor could they live in their home or enter Kellylynch's land. Then you had the fight that was happening between Matlock and Cornwall after Cornwall fired on Wentworth and his security team. The wyrms of Kellylynch had protected boxes of documents and books that were written in Dragon script, which detailed the charter of all the dragons, including the sea dragons. Some needed revising. The behavior of Anne's father towards minor dragons put his life and anyone near him in danger. Many battles were fought in this book. Anne also brought Mr. Wynn to heal. He didn't have a happy marriage.
I couldn’t wait to read this book, based on how the last novel ended. I was however a bit disappointed that this was mostly a Wentworth and Anne in story with no details about Darcy and Elizabeth. Still, it seemed that this couple, their family and the associated dragons had many issues to address. I continued to enjoy the detailed descriptions of the dragons and their very structured hierarchy within the blue order as well as all of the action that took place. In the end I was pleased to see how things turned out. BUT…I was quite disappointed that things just “ended” leaving me to believe that there is another book coming to tie up many of the loose details that were not yet addressed.
I love , love these dragons! I love their arrogance, grumpiness, their fierce loyalty to their Friends and even their strong hints for danger and violence. I have read the entire series twice….listened to them too on Audible. Maria Grace has created a Draconic World of Regency England and Georgette Heyer. These Dragons are not monsters or creatures without intricate, detailed personalities. They hide in plain sight disguised as cats, hawks, large dogs, horses etc. This is not a sci fi fantasy but a what if…..Grab your favorite snack, put up your feet and enter a Regency World of balls, afternoon teas, smugglers, Dukes, Vicounts, Almacks….and DRAGONS
I didn't actually think it would happen, but I definitely had a moment of, "If you hurt these characters, I am divorcing this series." To say I am invested is likely an understatement at this point. Pretty sure that I have read the last five books of the published series to this point in the last week.
This book continues to take things down a more serious route that has been building for some time. Not in a bad way, but definitely less Regency tea party and more political intrigue with serious consequences.
The series continues to be paced perfectly, except for the fact that no more has been published yet. 😂
Fabulous book - number 14 in the series! We are back with Captain Wentworth and Ann as they heal from their recent exposure to sea-dragon kind and prepare to face their biggest and most dangerous adversary yet - Cornwall himself. With Ann now expecting, she must balance her own health and care for their dragon - and then her family arrive to throw a whole new set of problems at her. Wentworth must go out and represent the humans and the face of the law, and carry the DragonSlayer to do his ultimate duty.
Wonderfully written, so many twists and gorgeous phrasing.
Trigger warnings: mentions miscarriage but off page, parental abuse, fire.
I have been so far behind in my reviews and rating-my deepest apologies!
It’s obvious how full of action this installment was, and that more will follow.
I admit it is difficult to keep up with all the characters, warm blooded, and cold blooded, that have appeared in these 14 installments.
Definitely not a series to be read out of order, and kind of one of those I wish I could’ve read once they’ve all be released. Since I still feel there’s a lot more to come, that is probably not a practical wish.
The Kellynch branch of this series continues to earn my love, as this family of dragons finds ways to support each other even as new threats to them and the Blue Order keep cropping up, especially as tensions about the rights of smaller dragons really reaches a boiling point here (also how relevant, to see the oppressed see what they want to see in a proven tyrant, of only real life ones were so easily managed). Excited to see a promised crossover between the Wentworths and the Darcys in a future book.
I’ve read this entire series, and I love it! Maria Grace captures Jane Austen’s writing style and iconic characters—but with DRAGONS! One of my favorite twists is how familiar characters are reimagined, like Elizabeth Bennet’s father—though I won’t spoil it for you. I also enjoy the variety of dragons, from the grand, traditional ones to the adorable fairy dragons that add a sweet touch to the story. If you’re a fan of Regency fiction and dragons, this series is a must-read.
What book kept me up to 3:30 AM because I couldn't put it down? Yes! Dragons at Lands End! Maria Grace continues to enthrall me with her Jane Austen's Dragons fantasy adventures! Anne, Wentworth and their draconic friends are again deep into Blue Order business and danger! Cornwall is becoming a problem claiming Lands End sea as territory, learning to swim. Will Chesil continue to tolerate Cornwall's trespass? The Dragon saga continues! Will anyone survive unscathed?
There is so much going on in this book that many times when the point of view changed, I was dismayed because exciting stuff was happening! Then I remembered what was going on in the new point of view, and I was mollified. For a bit, anyway. :)
With all the complexity the author has created in this world, I will say I wish a final proofreading pass had been done. Then this book would be perfection.
I love these books. More Jane Austin inspired Dragon doings, with the prospect of war between the highest ranking dragons in the land further complicated by hilariously (en)titled human relatives of Anne and Wentworth. A fantastic read and I'm already looking forward to the next one 😍
This latest book in the series is action packed. So much so that I found myself gasping. The situation between major and minor dragons continues. How is going to resolved? War? A new negotiation? At this point, I wish Maria Grace could be chained to her computer so the next book would be produced quickly!
Well written as usual. Very well rounded characters, both human and draconic growing with every book. A very well thought out, entirely believable storyline. You are there with the characters sitting next to them throughout the action. As usual I cannot wait for the next book.
Dragon's At Lands End, by author, Maria Grace, is fabulous. I couldn't put the book down and finished it in one day. Anne, Wentworth and Kellynech all played major roles. Times are tumultuous in the Dragon territory, but Matlock and Cornwall must settle their differences, the dragon way. Believe me, you will enjoy this story.
What can one say? Wow! Another jammed pack full of action and utterly entertaining book. Heart racing and emotional! In great anticipation for the next book! Maria Grace is fantastic!
Excellent, always. It is difficult to wait for the next offering in this well written and intriguing tale. Excellent character development of strong and quite varied characters, both great and small.
Loved it......always leaves you wanting more, Anne's family are so unbelieveably; believeable to think they are so entitled. The dragons interaction is both amazing and the writing lets you imagine you are right there. I didn't want to put it down.
After reading 14 books in this series, I can see why Maria Grace has won so many awards. She writes in such a way that I want to keep reading the next book to find out what happens next. I'll read them until she decides to quit writing them.
I am absolutely loving the Blue Order novels. The creative mind of Maria Grace is a great place to hang out. If you’ve not tried a little Pride and Prejudice and Persuasion … with dragons! You’re missing out!
I never thought the British culture in the Austen time period made much sense. Nor is that a time period I choose to read normally. But add dragons? Then all the bizarre rules and stereotypes make perfect sense! I love this series!
So much happening in this book it was really hard to put down. It was very interesting and I hope the next book comes soon because I am very interested to see what happens next especially at Pemberley with the Dragon Sage.
Another intriguing tale in this marvelous collection adding depth to the storyline. Dragon's End has ended one chapter, yet given way to more exciting experiences to occur. Hope that I can be patient while waiting for the next book to come out.
I felt like this book redeemed this part of the series after what I thought was a disappointing 13th book. I am very excited with the set up to book 15.
