who doesnt like banging in italy?

I swear, I really wanted to like this book. But damn… this was so bad. First of all, there is no plot at all. People who claim that this is a book about banging in Italy are right. Well, maybe banging combined with talking about it and insulting each other. I truly wish this was a classic romance and not some kind of ambitious story that tries—and fails—to tell you something deep.
But okay, lack of plot might not be an issue if the characters deliver. But no. The MMC is a textbook example of a bad boy with daddy issues who treats the FMC terribly, and no one really cares. He needs therapy, not girls to chase. The FMC, in turn, is a shy, inexperienced girl with trauma—another classic trope. I didn’t believe in their chemistry at all.
Another thing that failed for me in this book was the setting. I won’t speak about the time period because we never learn when this story is taking place—I’m assuming the '90s or early 2000s since they don’t use mobile phones, but honestly, I have no idea. As for the place, I was reading this in Italy, and it gave me zero vibes. I still wonder why this book is set in this country, as it delivers a rather superficial portrayal. For example, the characters swim in an ocean. An ocean. In Italy. Or a heroine who is a native Italian describes a guy’s height using feet and inches. And not wearing a bra is considered a hallmark of the Italian stereotype of the liberated woman. I mean… maybe in the movies? 🙃
All in all, I am rather shocked that Macmillan published something that reads like a Wattpad story (which it used to be). I admit - it was fast-paced and easy to read, even if you don’t like it. But still—probably my biggest disappointment of the year so far.

I’m sorry but this is unbearable. I’m shocked. I was soooo excited about this one, waited months for it to be published, I’m so sad. The writing is horrible, half sentences don’t make any sense and the characters are so self conscious that it’s cringey, depressing and very embarrassing honestly. In first 10 pages I said what the fuck like 20 times, but I decided to give it a shot anyway. But after that club scene? Absolutely not LOL

I’ll Look for You Everywhere by Cameron Capello

A family weeding in a sleepy Italian wedding, reunites Magdalen and Theo after seven years of consciously avoiding each other. Once they both arrive in Italy, they are drawn to each other, unable to resist their feelings for each other.
It’s a beautiful love story in a gorgeous setting. There is a constant push and pull between them, loss, regrets, hope, and so very much hurting. So much angst. I found myself pulling back from getting engaged with this couple because of their fear and drama.
I’d recommend this for readers that love the tears, angst, and the hard work needed for the hea.

2 stars purely because I managed to finish the book. It reads like a circa 2009 tumblr / whatpad story.
Not a plot in sight. Really inconsistent character behaviour and development. Fairy useless side characters and LOTS of internal self loathing monologues.
It doesn’t address any of the toxic behaviour and in general is the most anticlimactic reveal considering all the self induced drama the MCs put themselves through.
Also, if you’re coming for the “banging in Italy” theme then be prepared to have no banging until over 80% of the way though.

Soaked in melodrama and sultry summer tunes, this book is all about family secrets, misunderstood characters, and messiness. Magdalen and Theo are infuriating yet deeply relatable. They struggle with events from their past that affect their mental health and ability to trust each other, especially intimately and relationship-wise.
While I did enjoy the overall story, there was a bit too much unnecessary drama and miscommunication—or should I say non-existent communication? I feel like none of the characters ever really talked to each other, and even though I saw Magdalen and Theo’s end coming, it’s not quite satisfactory. Sure, it’s real. But it could’ve been better.
I still definitely recommend this if you like family drama, (sort of) the childhood friends to lovers and brother’s best friend trope, finding your mental struggles represented amidst the pages of a book, and carefree summer vibes!

This contemporary fiction had strong romantic elements but couldn’t be classified as being under the romance genre. Set in Italy, the story tracked two families coming back together with childhood friends as adults. The main characters, Magdalene and Theo were complicated individuals but none moreso than Theo.
The whole vibe of this read was hot summer, hedonism, longings and angst. It was fast-paced and kind of addictive with side serving of frustration. My frustrations sat with Theo, a hard to like guy, cocky but with issues around self worth. Magdalene (pronounced Maudlin on the audio) desired Theo from a distance with zero expectations of that desire being returned. She had a naivety to her characterisation which I liked reading but Theo treated her like trash back and forth.
Some of the parents of the piece were garbage, Theo’s father especially and I began to see why Theo was the way he was. Friendships were knotted up and everyone had family that connected them in some way.
I wanted more at the end but the ending also seemed authentic to the push and pull of the characters.
I listened on audio and the narration was dual POV, dual narration, done well.

So much time wasted.
Magdalen returns home to her small town home of Chivasso, Italy, for her sister’s wedding. Theo Sinclair, her best friend’s brother and next door neighbour also returns for the summer following a seven year absence.
Now, I genuinely enjoyed this book for the first one hundred pages and it went completely downhill from there. Theo was giving very textbook toxic boy behaviour. He had a lot of issues and used all of them as an excuse to treat Magdalen like shit. He repeatedly pulled her back-and-forth, knowing she’s inexperienced and naive and expected her to just deal with it (because he’s got trauma (that’s not even trauma-ing)). He spends majority of the book hating his dad yet quite easily and guiltlessly imitated every single behaviour. He’s a narcissist of gargantuan proportions, and thinks that because he has even a modicum of affection and respect for his sister - he’s a good man.
His best friend is mad at him for not staying in contact, but that’s not his fault. He doesn’t have a relationship with his mum, but that’s not his fault. He’s a dick to Magdalen, but that’s not his fault. Are we seeing a common theme here?
The dialogue is so incredibly juvenile and I’m genuinely concerned that the writer has a hard-on for making women sound pathetic and weak in the name of enhancing the male main character’s masculinity. The townspeople call him the King of Chivasso for literally existing.
In all honesty when I found out this was originally a Wattpad book everything made sense. I can’t believe it was given the greenlight to be published but I guess that’s what we get for being in the era of TikTok creators having so much influence over the publishing industry.

- Young Adult MCs are annoying. Theo is an arsehole, Magdalen is supposed to be independent enough that she's gone abroad for university, yet can barely string two words together to stand up for herself. Both are irritatingly self-loathing.
- Not 100% sure what time period the book is supposed to be set in, but based on the characters not using mobile phones and the teenaged Anika and Madgalen having danced to Madonna aged 12-13, assume mid to late 1990s.

You can tell this was written by a booktok content creator and I feel like that’s all I need to say lollll
Seriously though, the fmc was pathetic, the mmc was very mean, there was no chemistry, it was insta lust from the very start, they seem to have an exhibition kink that just made me extremely uncomfortable (seriously why do they keep doing sexual acts in public) and to top it off, this book/author was trying too hard to make this Normal People but set in Italy instead of Ireland 🤷🏼♀️
The mmc is also Scottish but this adds nothing to the story except to maybe push an ‘aggressive Scot’ stereotype and for the author to describe him as a ‘hot Scottish man’ in all her videos about this book.
I’ve also seen the author describe this book as a ‘forbidden romance’ because the mmc is not only her brother’s best friend, but he is also her best friend’s brother, and yet they are both fine with the two of them being together, so I’m struggling to understand the “forbidden” aspect of this description she keeps using on her social media. AND it’s not even a romance? Where’s the HEA? The book ends very abruptly with the two characters not together but pathetically saying they will “look for you, everywhere” 😐

4.5 ⭐️'s! if someone asked me what kind of books I like the most, this is the book I'd show them. if I could only read books similar to this for the rest of my life, I'd be content. the only thing that bothered me was the ending because it came off like the story wasn't over and I need more. I hope the author ends up making a sequel, otherwise the ending was annoying

3.5 ✨ Hard to rate this as I had very different feelings throughout. Really enjoyed certain parts, but felt disconnected from the characters at some points. I enjoyed her use of language and description, but some plot points felt over/underdeveloped. It definitely delivered on the vibes. I have to say I hated the MMF. He was just an asshole, until he was a hurt asshole😭 That being said, I will definitely read her next book. Congrats Cameron!!!

For a debut novel I think this did everything it needed to and a bit more.
Predominantly it’s marketed as a romance but there are some harder more honest points to the plot moving through the pages. Family trauma, bad parents and what truly shapes us as we grow up are highlighted in the small moments between the push and pull of our two main characters.
It’s not only about how they see each other but also how they see themselves and their wider family units around them. It portrays familial love and loathing with all its grit in earnest.
It’s easy to see how the main male character, Theo, can feel love deeply but self hatred in kind and use excess verbal aggression to push people he cares about away.
It is also easy to see how Magdalen withdraws into herself and feels overtly self conscious in any and all social spaces, not knowing how to act. Knowing she’s grown into a woman since she last came back to her home town but not feeling comfortable in the attention all the same.
I will forever hope Theo and Magdalen get to live out their happy ever after in their summers to follow the end of the pages.
Well done Cameron, I look forward to your next story!

I’ll Look For You Everywhere is a beautiful, addictive love story that will stay with me.
One of the things that really stood out about this book was the wonderfully vivid descriptions of Italy which has renewed my determination to visit there soon. I loved learning more about the slower way of life there especially the descriptions of meals or drinks outside in the family’s beautiful garden.
The story is told from the point of view of Theo and Magdalen, two people who couldn’t be more different from each other. While Theo is sporty and confident, Magdalen is quieter and doesn’t seem to believe in herself. It was lovely watching the two grow closer as the summer progresses and to see how they help each other for the better. Their families are very close and some of my favourite scenes were when they were all together as it was nicely chaotic.
Overall, as you can probably tell, I really enjoyed this book. I thought the book had a great pace to it and I soon found myself absorbed in the story. There were lots of surprising twists that kept me guessing and I liked that that the story follows a different route than a traditional romance story. The ending was lovely and while I had hoped for a slightly difficult ending I don’t think it would have been as realistic.

What the f, what the actual f was that?!?!?
I was absolutely consumed by this book, it completely exceeded my expectations! I have followed Cameron for a few years on TikTok, and to say I was excited when she mentioned she was releasing her debut novel was an understatement. I could hardly put this book down, it drew me in within the first few pages and I immediately connected with Magdalen, I don’t think I have related to a character more. Also the dual POV was the cherry on top, you really got to experience what challenges both characters were facing and how they viewed themselves. This book made me so happy (and sad) at the same time, it also has me considering moving to Italy…anyway, congrats to Cameron on a successful first release

the epitome of a summer book. I don't often read angsty literary romances but when I do they're always fantastic and this was no exception.
Theo and Mag's story was enchanting and alluring and the back-and-forth, will-they-wont-they as they both heal and work through their trauma in their childhood homes was so beautiful to read. it was so easy to fall in love with them both and crave a happy ending for the two of them. I love an open ending and I'm so glad it gives me the chance to stay in Chivasso with Theo and Magdalen that little bit longer.
Theo and Mag's story was enchanting and alluring and the back-and-forth, will-they-wont-they as they both heal and work through their trauma in their childhood homes was so beautiful to read. it was so easy to fall in love with them both and crave a happy ending for the two of them. I love an open ending and I'm so glad it gives me the chance to stay in Chivasso with Theo and Magdalen that little bit longer.

I wasn't feeling this debut. It has been getting great buzz and I understand why with its Colleen Hoover vibes but as a second chance, dual timeline, dual POV romance that deals with heavy family issues, it just somehow didn't work for me. I listened to the audiobook and didn't love the narrators so maybe that contributed to me mediocre feelings but overall this was a skippable read for me. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read an early digital and audio copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.
