This is a fun book to read as an adult! The illustrations are excellent, and are on every page of each rhyme.
I was so surprised that I knew most of the rhymes either because my parents read a lot to me, and I taught preschool and story hour at the library. I even knew some of the songs to them. I used to sing my sons to sleep with them. Some of the rhymes are so silly! I remember how my sons used to laugh at them. Some of them, even after reading them several times, really made no sense at all. Some I had never heard of before. Some were "British", because of the habits mentioned, and the spellings were different than English.
I guess I never realized how many nursery rhymes there were, and what a pleasure they were to read as an adult. I was surprised that "London Bridge" was not in this collection. When there were rhymes that had body action, that was explained to the adult reader so it could be shared with the listener.
All first lines were indexed at the back of the book.
