Quaking Heart #1

Ride with Me

Rate this book
He is her dream come to life. She is invisible to him...

Jessica Harper is a sweet and innocent woman, held back from a life of her own. Clint Wilkins is a cut above the rest, but he’s broken, and emotionally unavailable. When Clint’s vow to never marry and his attraction to Jessie square off, will he take her innocence...or her heart, and change both their lives forever.

Jessica Harper only daydreams of escaping her demanding family. So when her Uncle Roy begs her to come to his large cattle ranch in Montana to help Mabel, his cantankerous cook, she jumps at the chance. Once Jessica arrives, the cook isn't her only problem. Right out of the chute she meets the compelling, handsome ranch foreman. Though she recognizes him as her life-long dream, she must face the fact that they are not a matched set. He’s much too...everything, for her. Yet, Jessica can’t seem to keep her mind or her eyes off him. Her desire runs rampant, her faith is tested, her courage fails her, and that’s all before an unforeseen disaster strikes.

Clint Wilkins, the rugged, stand alone foreman — and Gallatin County’s most sought-after bachelor — has successfully fought off marriage for years. But, before he knows it, Jessica’s sweet nature and strong character burrow under his skin, blazing a path straight for his philandering heart. When he finds himself poleaxed by the wholesome Jessie, he must re-evaluate his calloused lifestyle. But, as he tries to change, he is reminded how damaged and used up he is, and how pure she remains. Yet, he can’t seem to resist her powerful tug on his reins.

Will they trust the path God has set for them, or turn away from each other for good?

This was a really good book, especially for a freebie. I loved the characters and their personalities. With the strengths and weaknesses, their courage, mistakes and faith. The ups and downs, the anguish and happiness, the learning and stopping to smell the roses. This was that touched a little of everything. There was always something happening (although the running did get somewhat tiring) and the ending was good. This definitely had me thinking and got me to take a look at myself as well. (Not as happy about that as I would like *sigh*, but good to work on) I would like to read the next book in this series but I don't think it would quite be at the BOLO level. Enjoy!

I was disappointed in this book. Way too much physical descriptions on intimate details that should be left for a husband and wife. I do enjoy romance books, but NOT ones that have so much sexual descriptions, completely unnecessary for this story.

Great epic read!

I loved this book. The author took time to develop the characters, and made them seriously believable. She gave them personalities that readers can identify with. The backgrounds are realistic, and they show so much more of why a character came to be the way he/she is. It helped me get into the psyche of different characters, a d to predict how they'd react to situations. Finally, it is a sweet read, and there are very few grammatical errors. I am looking forward to more by Ms Hooper. She's great writer. Thank you for a fantastic read!
I downloaded this book from Amazon, and I am leaving my review in hopes that others will give this book a try. You won't be disappointed.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. So often you read a good book only to be disappointed in the end when the author hurries in the final pages to wrap everything up in a neat bow. However, this ending didn't disappoint. I loved the fact that the book held my attention without disturbing my senses and it didn't even destroy the plot or the character of the story. What I loved best was the fact that the author really tide the title "Ride With Me"throughout the book: in the beginning, in the middle, and in the end. I'm getting ready to purchase others by Janith Hooper. Janith, if you're reading this, then I want to thank you for the gift of a very "good read". (underscore prompt didn't work)

A good story!

I got and read this book some time ago, but forgot to leave a review. I ended up rereading it, and think I enjoyed it more this time! I spent part of a summer not too far from what is now called Earthquake Lake. Loved the storyline, though I was a little overwhelmed with so much sickness/accidents. Great story!

Loved this story. It was a little long, but the author was very descriptive. I’m glad the witness of God was received and true love won.

Captivating

Couldn't put it down! Loved the story line, the twists! The author did a few grammatical mistakes, however it didn't detract from the beauty of the story.

Good read

I really enjoyed these people. I loved learning about their lives and the times they lived in. The strength of character it sometimes feels so hard to find now. This was an enjoyable tale that kept the pages turning and Lord present.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Jessica Harper and Clint Wilkins seemed to have sparks flying from the second they laid eyes on each other--only Clint is accustomed to going through women as fast as you and I change socks. Commitment is not his strength, but with Jessica, he can't help his growing attraction to her. Jessica wants to get to know him, but Clint has dark secrets that he wants to keep sealed away in his past.

On a trip to a friend's cabin, Clint becomes gravely ill. Jessica, frightened for him, nurses him and prays for his recovery. During their stay at the cabin, Jessica spots him in bed with another woman. She leaves to go back to the ranch.

Clint learns of her disappearance and wants go after her. He finally realizes that he must decide if he's willing to reveal his love for her and to her or if he should let her go.

The supporting characters are wonderful and sometimes, they're even funny! Veronica is a determined woman--she reminds me of a cougar, prowls around staking her territory and wants to dig her claws into any good looking man. Rose Marie also struck me as a man-hungry woman, but later seems to transform into a more subdued character. Johnnie is portrayed as Clint's best friend and fellow hired hand at the ranch. His desire for Jessica drives Clint up the wall. These three characters all help to add a wonderful element of rivalry to the story.

Read it!

This book started out okay. I wanted to like it. I tried to like it. But somewhere around the middle the author seemed to forget what she was doing and lost her way. The book got shifted into neutral and much time was wasted on wheel-spinning. The book was long enough and didn't need dragged out byI did enjoy the meat of this story but not all the non-nutritive fatty filler. A good editor with a red pencil could have made this into a great novel but as it is, I find no desire to follow up with the sequel.

A delightful story along with tragic and heartache. I loved the story of God and Jessica Harper trying to witness to all the cowboys on the ranch. She came from California to Montana to help cook with Mable on her Uncle Roy's ranch. I received an ARC of this book and I highly recommend reading it. Clint Wilkins was the forman of the ranch and he an Jessica had a lot of ups and downs.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel and raced through it because it was so spellbinding! The author has created a truly lovely story set in Montana in the late 1950's, and populated it with characters which range from the incredibly handsome and complex Clint Wilkins to the stuck-up Veronica and the thoroughly bad Brad. I found the love affair between Jessica and Clint agonisingly fraught and yet delightfully sweet, as they struggle to overcome personal blocks to romance and find each other in trust and faith.

The story includes lots of action, which I also appreciated. We are introduced to the cattle round-up on the farm, the dangerous ride through grizzly bear country, the battle against fever in a remote setting, the terrifying experience of encountering an earthquake at close quarters, and the drama of good guys facing bad guys within a stone's throw of the sheriff's office.

The book is written in the genre of inspirational fiction and has a strong Christian flavour, yet it is neither sugary-sweet or Bible-punching in its handling of faith issues. Rather, the treatment of individuals coming to salvation is tender and real. I appreciated this, and put it down to the fact that the author has many years of life experience behind her.

First, I have to admit that I'm outside the target audience for Romance, Christian or otherwise. That being said, I really enjoyed Ride With Me. Ms Hooper has a beautiful writing style that carries the reader along with the characters as they live out their lives, dealing with each new experience and challenge. The characters were believable and well developed. Things felt a little repetitious at times, but overall the pace was good and kept me reading. (A couple of times well past my bedtime.)

My only reservation, and this is strictly because of the genre, is the frequency and intensity of the "lust" scenes. While it probably doesn't cross the line for Christian focused writing, especially romance, I feel it does push the line rather vigorously. If not for this one caution, I'd have given Ride With Me a full five stars.

If I understand correctly, this is Ms Hooper’s debut novel, and if that’s the case I see a bright future for her as an author.

The book was written well in there were no grammatical or spelling errors as have been in a lot of the books I have read lately. However, it seemed the author could not decide which dramatic climax would have the most impact on the story so she used them all (i.e. earthquake, tsunami, grizzly bear, mountain lion, hungry wolf pack, broken axle on wagon, gunshot wounds, attempted rape, etc.). There were so many throughout the story I may have forgotten a few. The story seemed to go on endlessly at times with one tragedy after another. This is the first in a trilogy and I would like to read about the next hero, but I am unsure I can go through with it if it is much like the first in that aspect. This book took me twice as long to read as most books.

Great read! Jessie is tired of feeling like an old maid and burden to her family. She leaves to spend the summer helping the cook on her uncle's ranch and has an odd ream about a cowboy on the way there. Walt, her uncle's oldest ranch hand meets her at the train and shares with her his desire that the cowboys on the ranch come to know God and asks Jessie's help as she has a deep faith in God. There is the biggest challenge of all, Clint Willkins, a man with Hollywood rugged good looks, a deep secret from a painful past and who runs through women like the bull through the herd. He works his way into Jessie's heart and she into his, but his womanising and unbelief are a barrier to the potential to this pair. Lot of action and unexpected twists and turns make this a truly interesting read!

Book 1 in the "A Quaking Heart" series. This book is based in Montana and the events concerning the earth are based on actual facts.

This is a lovely Christian novel -- a FULL & complete book and is the first book written by Janith Hooper. I hope the author keeps writing and writing because this book grows on you as you read it.

I found likable characters. People I started to care about. I think you will too. There are several "popular highlights" in this book and I found myself highlighting most of the same passages as well as my own.

This is a love story ... in more ways than one ... and I highly recommend. Plus at the time I "purchased" it on Amazon, it was free.

This was by far the best Christian romance novel I have ever read. The main characters, Jesse and Clint, were so real and well developed that I found myself living the joy, hurt, and every other emotion they felt within the pages I read. The story reminded me of the temptations we all face in relationships and hardships , as we grow in our Christian walk. The story the author weaved took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions and I was surprised as unexpected twists and turns evolved. I would recommend this book to anyone in any phase of their Christian walk or those who are unsure of God's many blessings. Very Inspirational and uplifting read.

Ride with me was ahmazing... The plot was rich. The characters were well matured. I could connect with every emotion. It totally had me enraptured. Choice of words perfect and writing style excellent. The romance was spicy and sweet... never crossing the line and she portrayed a good example of conviction. I loved Jessica's courage in preaching the gospel. It shows that God can change anybody. Nobody is too bad to be redeemed by Him. He never forsakes His children when we call on Him for help even in the most ridiculous sounding situations. Though I felt like being sick with all the sickness going on. (I mean he's supposed to be a man). All in all, I loved it. I totally loved it.

The story was off to a good start but then lost my interest. The idea was good and I liked the religious aspect but it felt overdone, like I was being preached to. The message of how Clint came around and stopped chasing skirts was terrific. There was so much spent on nursing someone sick or almost dying, it got old. After the earthquake, I wondered what else could possibly happen to these people in such a short time. Bad guys, jealous women, shootings, the total destruction of the ranch and way too many misunderstandings left me shaking my head.

WONDERFUL (clapping hands) I did not want this book to end. I am still thinking about the characters. I wonder what they are doing now? They are like family I want to catch up on. I am sure that it is hard for the author to let them go also. Hooper is an excellent writer and I am looking forward to the next book.

Couldn't stop reading this book.

It made me laugh and cry for all the trials they endured to be together. I wanted to kick some of the female characters for their horrible behavior. Love truly concurred all.

I really like the way you write! I can picture the characters and the landscape so well. I'd always wanted to see Montana and after reading this book I long to see it even more. Great way to describe the scenes going on!

Assuming

Assuming is the flight of this story and what a story it is. God's love and inner action and of the catheters in the story. I gave it 4 stars only because of the ending of the story, but I'll live that up to you the reader's to till in your reviewing.

Cliffhanger

Please do not call a novel a stand alone, when nothing is resolved. There is no closure the hero and heroine. And toward the last section we do not even know what they are doing.... No thanks.
