ALIENS AND AVENGERS FACE OFF! It's all led to Xenomorphs reach Earth! The perfect organism meets a planet of superhumans. Who will be first to fall? Legendary collaborators Jonathan Hickman and Esad Ribić cut loose in this four-part epic unmissable for Marvel and Alien fans alike!
Jonathan Hickman is an American comic book writer and artist. He is known for creating the Image Comics series The Nightly News, The Manhattan Projects and East of West, as well as working on Marvel Comics' Fantastic Four, FF, and S.H.I.E.L.D. titles. In 2012, Hickman ended his run on the Fantastic Four titles to write The Avengers and The New Avengers, as part the "Marvel NOW!" relaunch. In 2013, Hickman wrote a six-part miniseries, Infinity, plus Avengers tie-ins for Marvel Comics. In 2015, he wrote the crossover event Secret Wars. - Wikipedia
This is much better than it has any right to be. At last Marvel is prepared to take some risks with the Alien franchise, their main Alien comics line has been really boring and lackluster.
I was a bit apprehensive of mixing superheroes with xenomorphs, fearing that the xeno's would get easily trounced, but Hickman doesn't fall into that trap. I haven't been reading any other Hickman Marvel series, so I have no idea why everyone is middle- and/or old aged, but I like it! We need more "old" people in comics!
The art is uniformly excellent - quite European in style, with delicate touches of the Moebius-esque.
I was on the fence about picking up this issue but I’m glad I went in. I’m more here for the Aliens side of things than Avengers but Hickman does a nice job of blending both worlds. This is a threat that’s toppled even Earth’s mightiest heroes. As a result, we get a really dark story about loss, grief and insurmountable struggle - and not the kind of “against all odds” story that superhero books typically peddle.
When I tell you this is the greatest thing marvel comics as released in years-- I'm not lying. The lore is loring, the canon is canoning. I'm shook. The way I screamed my way through this entire first issue because I fully comprehend the stakes-- my god. Thank you marvel, for feeding us alien geeks!
WAY more exciting than I thought it would be. Hickman's writing is stellar as always. Ribic's art is INCREDIBLE. I picked up this issue JUST because of the Skottie Young variant cover, but man... I might have to keep reading this. Haha
Earth is under a vicious all out attack. Aliens aka Xenomorphs are rampaging throughout different worlds of The Marvel Universe. And these unpredictable, scary foes are almost on the verge to end Humankind, whatever is left of it.
The story starts swinging with Jonathan Hickman's brilliance. As an iconic writer he gets the cold, scary and intense vibe of an Alien story along with the sheer helplessness inside a human mind, when it's up against such endlessly disturbing enemies.
All over the first issue, the teamwork of Hickman and Ribic has been nothing less than excellent. Esad Ribic has transformed the uncertainity of Human Lives when under Xenomorph invasion and the mythos from Jonathan's appealing writing pretty smoothly.
AVA being a non-canon story has really made room for the writer's improvisation. In this first piece, readers would get the opportunity to experience a storyline consisting fallen heroes and Avengers members being at their old ages.
Getting to see Old Bruce Banner or Carol Danvers still trying to duke it out, Miles Morales being the Spider-Man, Valeria once again trying to take the weight of the world on her shoulders were very well put by the artists.
My overall experience after going through the issue #1 of 4, is really touching. The cliffhanger felt both surprising and neat.
Comics Review
Name : Aliens vs. Avengers ( Issue #1 ) Writer : Jonathan Hickman Artist : Ive Svorcina, Esad Ribic Publisher : Marvel Publication Date : Aug 28th, 2024 Genres : Action, Adventure, Horror, Sci-Fi, Superhero Status : Ongoing Reviewer : Wasim Hasan Mahmud
Fantastic start. Of course, it's Hickman and Ribic so there was very little chance it wouldn't be great. Hickman did a great job painting the world and everything that led to the current situation and Ribic is an outstanding artist. Everything looks incredible and his style works really well for this sort of story. Making this an "Old Man Avengers" type story instead of just throwing some aliens at the current avengers was a great choice. It seems like these Fox acquisition crossovers are getting better and better with each one. Aliens vs. Avengers bursts out of the chest with a fun, tense and surprisingly effective crossover. The mixing of the two worlds is effortless in Hickman's capable hands and I cannot wait to see where it goes next.
Okay so this was awesome. It’s a roll of the dice with crossovers since they can come off as very hokey and contrived but here Hickman managed to capture the essence of Aliens while injecting a dose of marvel in for good measure.
The dread, the suspense, the feeling of real threat is all captured here in a way I didn’t expect since my initial thought upon seeing this on the shelf was “Well duh, hulk will smash, Cap will pummel, it’s gonna be a fun dumb time.” No no no. All of our heroes have been caught off guard and completely overwhelmed, humanity is one mistake away from being completely wiped out and it comes through both in the writing and the art. Some other cool unexpected changes here too but I’ll keep my mouth shut on those.
I was expecting something akin to the old crossover Batman vs Aliens/Superman vs Aliens stories, but this issue was a much bleaker and more intriguing read. It's not superheroes fighting to stop an isolated alien outbreak spreading; it's about the last surviving people after the aliens have already destroyed the world, and the first issue is a compelling story about grief and loss and struggle. Definitely picking up the rest of the run as the issues come out.
Some really dumb shit here, but I'm interested to see how the Xeno-Symbiote will work in the future. Just kind of wish it was literally any other Spider-Man than Miles, but... well, I mean, Carol is in this as well, so we're still shilling the same characters Marvel has been shilling for ages. I expect Kamala soon.
Xenos are immune to magic, by the way. Somehow.

I guess there are some benefits to Disney owning everything. A very interesting concept/premise that is being pulled off well, I think. Only complaint is that it was too short. My guess for the future is that Ant-Man can't beat them by shrinking and going into their butts because of their acid blood, so, ya know this might be a tough battle. Looking forward to issue #2.
I am not really a fan of this illustrator (sorry :( for that) since the Eternals series I read a few years ago; but ignoring that, the story is epic as hell
I really like the concept and this new avengers-style teams of different heroes, and the new outfit that appears at the end
Super fun and engaging from the start. The queen seed planting was a wild idea, then earth being so helpless was even crazier to see. Of course Weyland was the last one smh. The writing feels a bit cheese at times, but the story concept and art REALLY carry it. The ending of #1 really had me surprised too, was not expecting/thinking that was possible. Can’t wait to read 2!

Thought this would just be a mildly entertaining tie in with some token reasoning for the xenomorph to show up in NYC. But this story is going places and the usual rules are off. Excited to read the next!
I am enjoying this title a lot. This is Aliens done right!...can't wait to read some more. Its an expensive title but so worth it. The art is great. Story is great. Pick this up now!
My worlds have collided. Hickman worldbuilding is great in everything I've read of his so far and this is no exception. So much history established in one issue with great artwork. Proof that you make something fan pleasing AND still be well written
Most everything Johnathan Hickman writes is gold. This issue is no exception. Hickman has blended the hopelessness and horror of the Alien Franchise and successfully melded it with the Marvel Universe
This came out a year ago, but I am just now reading it. I love it!!!
Why did I wait? Sci-fi, horror, and superheroes! This series has it all. I will knock out the four issue series quickly. Great art, plot, and characters. Fully utilized the concept of the Aliens.
