Military Aircraft of the Cold War

Rate this book
Though the Cold War was responsible for decades of suspicion and mistrust between the U.S. and the Soviet Union, it was also responsible for an amazing leap forward in aircraft research, design, and development. The wild blue yonder never looked so exciting!

Military Aircraft of the Cold War covers each plane in great detail and is filled with over 2,000 illustrations and photos of each plane in action.

• Each spread highlights the fascinating journey from concept and design to combat missions. Photo files, action data, facts and figures, maps, and other innovative graphics bring the action to life!

• Sit behind the controls of a B-52 Strato Fortress! This awesome plane began its service in 1952 and will likely continue to fly until 2040—a tribute to the designers and engineers who developed it.

A good book, literally a compilation of aircraft cards I had growing up. Wonder what happened to those. I think they got lost in a move. A nice stroll down memory lane, I used to spend hours poring over those cards.

A colorful guide with a page or two dedicated to each aircraft.

A bit lacking in substantive details, and much of the text is written with superlatives, rarely mentioning flaws or operational issues.

However, it is a quick reference useful for reminding the reader of what a particular aircraft looked like and when it was flown.

One complaint is that while it is heavily illustrated, many of the photos are too small to pick out details such as markings. Many of the photos are not fully captioned leaving out information such as location or unit assignment.

A good gift for a young reader to spark an interest in the subject... not so much for the dedicated aviation enthusiast.

This book was great. Had lots of great pictures and photos of these planes in action. Also has neat charts that compare the aircraft to similar ones form other countries. Not a ton of information on each plane but what do you expect when there are many different aircraft. Still provides quite a bit for a book of its size.
