Love doesn’t make the world go round.

After the painful loss of her brother, Penelope finally seems to be stepping back into reality and trying to focus on moving on and making him proud of her. She vows to work hard and pursue her dream of Freelance Editing while making time for friends and family. Finding a second chance at love in the form of her annoyingly handsome, and completely unnecessary, vampire bodyguard was not part of the plan. All she wanted was a weekend away from the stress with her best friend. Now she’s trying to juggle both of her jobs and a lover that’s hiding something. Without the truth, she’s unsure what the future holds.

Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.

Reid doesn’t do love, especially not with humans. He has a daughter he adores, a job he loves, and a life that makes him finally feel worthy of his title. Being ordered to babysit the human he can’t stop thinking about isn’t on his to-do list. Until an ultimatum from his Maker forces him to make an impossible his daughter's life or his chance at true happiness.

☁︎SOO this book has potential but has a lot of problems. There are constant plot holes, loose ends being tied up in the most confusing ways. The story pacing was choppy and sometimes didn’t flow well at all.

☁︎This book has good elements like the characters but even they have issues. The FMC was smart and clever in certain scenes then completely oblivious in others. The MMC was supposed to have a cold and distant personality but we rarely ever saw that. This book was all over the place, but it has potential. It just needs some help.

““What say you, Executioner?”
“Death.” I could hear the chill in my own voice and could feel the desire for violence under my skin like a blood song.”

The emergence of Vampires from myth into reality has them “living” alongside humans in this fantasy romance “Blood Song: The Blue Bird Chronicles” by author Amber Marie. There are hints of other mythical creatures, such as werewolves and fae, who aren’t ready to expose their existence to the human population just yet.

“Blood Song” is about vengeance and falling in love. In many ways “Blood Song” reminded me of the play “West Side Story”. When a gang member plots out ways to get even with a rival gang, innocents will invariably get hurt or killed. And as this story begins, we’re immediately thrust into the middle as two Vampire groups gear up to go head-to-head with one another.

Two human women, Penelope and Bailey, are long time best friends, and both find themselves deeply in love with two Vampire brothers. The main love story is about the relationship between Penelope and Reid. Jealousy, lies and distrust will cause angst as they work their way through their mutual attraction.

There are a lot of explicit love scenes (18+), violence, and death. This volume can be read as a stand-alone novel with an ending that is both satisfactory and easily flows into the second book in the series: “Midnight Shadows: The Blue Bird Chronicles.”

I was given an ARC from the publisher and am leaving an honest review voluntarily.

Ok, where to begin? First of all, I want to know how many packs of beer they go through in a week. I've never read about any character drinking beer so much. Second, the whole story was very slow, but when any little action did happen, it was very fast and left me with a lot of questions. I got whiplash from how often I went from reading one characters point of view to another. Very choppy writing. Also, who are some of these people mentioned? Their back stories were never explained. I had high hopes for this book and disappointed is being polite. I hope this author's writing improves because I can see the potential but this book fell flat.

This is a new series. It is not just about one couple and their relationship; it is comprised of several and the dynamics between everyone. This is a world of humans, vamps, shifters, and more. We have Bailey, Pennelope (PJ), and several others united by bonds of family and friendship. Then there is Reid, Asher, Emma, and many more with the same bonds but they are all vampires. Ash and Bailey are together, as fated mates. They introduce Reid and PJ, who soon are the same. Emma is Reid’s adopted daughter, part vamp and human. Reid is a prince and his maker, Anika, wants him back.

Most of the story is about everyone getting to know one another, building their relationships. Other times, it is about two factions out for revenge against Asher and Reid. They will use PJ and Bailey as the bait. PJ will have some of her own problems to deal with in her relationship with Reid no one else but he will know about. Her ex and cousin will enter the picture. I believe book one is just the start to bigger issues to come for everyone involved. More secrets will arise as these bonds grow. The enemy will become an even bigger issue to deal with. For now, content yourself with the first book in a series. Get to know the characters, and the world they live in. Memorize the enemies. What will occur in book two?

Blood Song: The BlueBird Chronicles by Amber Marie was a captivating dive into a new mystical world full of vampires, intrigue, mystery and tons of angst! This was my first experience with this author and this world and boy am I hooked! And while it does kind of drop you right into the middle of the story quickly with these characters, leaving you trying to hurry and catch up and sort who’s who and what’s going on, you’re still able to catch on quick and immediately feel invested in their happiness. Reid and Penelope immediately stole the show and boy am I invested in their outcome! Their attraction, full of heat and angst galore, was undeniable—though riveted with enough back and forth drama and interruptions to leave you on the edge of your seat for then to just get over it already!!! And just when you think everything is finally where you need it to be—that ending!!! Needless to say I need the next one stat!

Marie did an amazing job at creating this new supernatural world with all its rules and guidelines as well as creating characters you instantly bond with and want more from, and I can’t wait to see what’s coming next!

2.5 out of 5

The log line sounded promising but in the end I couldn't connect with the characters nor the somewhat confusing explanations of world building and jumps in thoughts.

There's an info dump towards the beginning to explain the trouble the boys are in that has placed the girls in danger and after it's explained their lives are in jeopardy, Bailey (one of the FMC's) says, "OK so what do we want to do today? Pool? "...?... they just had a several page conversation about their lives being in danger and then are so nonchalant.

There were inconsistencies, and the writing style was not as polished. It just left me flat.

I really enjoyed this story! It’s a different kind of vampire story, in the best kind of way. Reid and Penelope’s relationship is a rollercoaster! Both characters are dynamic and engaging. The side characters are as entertaining as the main duo. They really add the drama as well as comic support. I can’t wait to see what happens next!!

A story that really draws you in, the characters really feel alive. This book's got something for everyone, action, intrigue, a few spicy scenes. Lots of fun!

I haven't read the other books yet, but I really feel that this series has adaptation potential. I could totally see this being a Netflix or HBO Max series

Can't wait to see what else this author has come up with!
