Earling Carothers "Jim" Garrison, who changed his first name to Jim in the early 1960s — was the Democratic District Attorney of Orleans Parish, Louisiana from 1962 to 1973. He is best known for his investigations into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy (JFK).

Garrison remains a controversial figure. Opinions differ as to whether he uncovered a conspiracy behind the John F. Kennedy assassination but was blocked from successful prosecution by a federal government cover up, whether he bungled his chance to uncover a conspiracy, or whether the entire case was an unproductive waste of resources.

While reading this book, it's easy to forget that Garrison's trial had only recently concluded in New Orleans. In 1970, the Zapruder film had yet to be released to the american people. While he doesn't delve too deeply into the Shaw case specifically, he does present his view of who killed President Kennedy and why. He also makes a very compelling case for Oswald not being involved with either the shooting of officer J.D. Tippit or Kennedy. I noticed a lot of his passages end up being recited verbatim in Oliver Stone's JFK.

I spoke with Vincent Salandria (now 87) who helped Garrison prepare the manuscript for this book and he is just as convinced now, as he was then, that the military industrial complex was responsible for Kennedy's death. It really is amazing how much information is out there for those who aren't afraid to look.

If you can find a copy of this book (only one of my local libraries had it), I would highly recommend it.

Brave look behind the curtain. For many years it scared me to see just how controlled we are by gov't. How easily they can make any of us disappear for any reason. Until I realized Bill Murray is right in both Meatballs and The Razor's Edge. "It just doesn't matter."

This is a great book that puts for several possible theories as to who might have really killed JFK and why. Also totally debunks the Warren Commission report.

Every American should read this book! Jim Garrison was a brave soul for daring to go against the powers that be to try to bring justice for the assassination of John F. Kennedy. This is a book written by Jim Garrison detailing the events that happened prior to, during, and after the assassination. He tells the full story of his views of the Kennedy assassination, and about those in control of America today (1970). It is a very powerful book with clear insights into the workings of the government agencies and the events happening at the time of the assassination.

Very interesting take on the JFK assassination & cover up from the man who conducted the only real & independent investigation on how & who killed our President, and why. I've read Trail of the Assassin's also, which is primarily Garrison's presentation of his case; this is somewhat of an editorial on that experience & his statement on what it means. It's hard to find a copy of this title, because of that I hope it can be digitized for electronic format. It is an extremely important book.

Earling Carothers "Jim" Garrison, Democratic District Attorney of Orleans Parish, Louisiana from 1962 to 1973 was absolutely convinced the assassination of John F. Kennedy involved more shooters than Oswald, who was a government agent, and included in the conspiracy Jack Ruby. Guy Banister - employee of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, an Assistant Superintendent of the New Orleans Police Department, and a private investigator - was an avid anti-communist, fixer for anti-Castro forces and viewed by Garrison as a key link for Oswald to the shadowy underworld that led to a coup on Friday, November 22, 1963, in Dealey Plaza. This quick read is a litany of conspiracy-supporting facts that were dismissed by government investigators with a quick efficiency that sure makes it look like a cover-up.

Published in 1970, Jim Garrison's 'Heritage of Stone' remains a very powerful indictment against the forces of the 'warfare state' that executed the coup d'etat in Dallas on November 22nd 1963.
Garrison was attacked and vilified before, during and after his New Orleans District Attorney's Office case of the State of Louisiana v Clay L. Shaw. An independent and indispensable reconsideration of Big Jim's probe arrived in 2005 with Joan Mellen's 'A Farewell to Justice'. Also riding to the rescue of Garrison's credibility was the long time JFK assassination researcher Jim DiEugenio in 1992 with his publication of 'Destiny Betrayed'. Perhaps the most astounding confirmation that the 'Norlins' D.A. was on the trail of the assassins was published in 2018 in Michele Metta's revelations in his book 'CMC The Italian Undercover CIA and Mossad Station and the Assassination of JFK'.

I read a critique of this book and the movie, JFK, based on Garrison's work, prior to reading this. Notwithstanding, this work holds up as worthy of consideration even after so many years, particularly as regards the New Orleans aspects of the assassination case. After reading this I watched Oliver Stone's movie again with greater appreciation for the details which almost overwhelmingly pack it.

This was an excellent book by Garrison. I liked this book because when he wrote this book the events were still fresh in his mind and he lived through the assassination. I've never believed that LHO assassinated Kennedy and books like "A Heritage of Stone" add more context and analysis to why I believe the way I do with confidence. If you're interested in about the Kennedy assassination you NEED to read this book to add to your knowledge.

Did Garrison really believe he was on the trail of the JFK conspirators? Was his investigation just more smoke and mirrors? Did he have good intentions? We will never know.
