See what animals do when you are asleep. Cats prowl, mice scuttle, owls swoop and bats flutter across the pages, capturing the night-time atmosphere in different environments from backyard to rainforest.
This is a great book for kids, as they will have fun lifting the flaps and finding all the creatures hidden there. Lots to learn about the nighttime critters ... and because of the flaps, it becomes a much longer book, lots more information, etc. than the number of pages indicates. Beautifully illustrated, simply written, fun for the youngest readers, still enjoyable for the the oldest (me?)
Julia adores lift-the-flap books. She just can't pass up any of them. Whenever I see a lift-the-flap book I grab it, even if the subject is something that she's not overly into. The two we borrowed from the library this week, this and another about baby animals, are subjects she's into so that makes them all the better. Most of the lift-the-flap books I find are Usborne and every single one we've read to date have a good amount of facts included. So besides being fun for children to read, they're also learning. This book is about nighttime animals, what they do at night, what they eat, where they live, etc. Animals from owls to snails to tarsiers are included. It's great for any animal/lift-the-flap book lover!
Too wordy to read aloud in a library story time, but we were just looking for night-time friends of BATS. You can ask children what sounds the various animals and birds make. You can say "Peek-a-BOO!" as you lift the flaps. On the "moths" page they children said "Butterflies" so we explained that butterflies are out in the day and moths come out at night. Then we had them say "MOTHS" with us. Hey -- sneaky vocabulary sharing opportunity!
Informational flap book that looks at nocturnal animals, their diet, habbits, and facts about them. Great science book for K-1st graders that are interested in nighttime animals. Teacher could do a entire bulletin board with drawings or cutouts from this book. Very interesting to see what animals are active when we are sleeping.
This is a book about many of the creatures who are nocturnal. It has beautiful pictures and lots of information about each kind of creature. It would be an excellent book for a one-on-one storytime so that the child reading could lift the flaps him/herself. It might be a little too heavy for a large storytime.
My little girl that is in kindergarten loves this book. You get to find out neat facts about each animal and look under the flaps to learn even more. Its a fun book to read it really get the kids excited when they can lift up the flaps.
This is a wonderfully entertaining, yet very simple, book about night creatures ... fun for the little ones to life the flaps and see what's hiding ...
