Win the hand of Fate. Fall into an endless spiral of betrayal.
Trapped in her brother's prison, Zora Vyner faces a challenge greater than the ruthless tournament she survived: heartbreak. Betrayed by Cristen and grieving the loss of her closest friend, she wonders if the price she paid for the truth was worth it.
At least, she got a crown from it.
The truth is finally revealed by her brother. The Vyners were once a rival to Estal Kingdom, ruling the Underground with an iron fist. But once Cristen's late father, the king, got wind of their growing strength, he had Zora's family hunted.
Now, she tries to relish the few consolations in her possession: the crown on her head, the empty palace waiting to be filled and the brother - perhaps more psychotic than she's ever been - finally returned to her side.
But her lust for Cristen Estal remains, no matter how many daggers she drills through hearts to eliminate it.
This sequel to Veil of Fate is a spicy, blood-lust driven dark fantasy romance that will have you SCREAMING at the page. No character can be trusted. Each carries a vengeance. It will be a feat for any to survive.

The plot is too convoluted for the books to be this short. There is way too much happening. Everything is rushed and it’s confusing and I feel like I’ve forgotten half of the plot points because it’s so overwhelming.
okay - it was not as good as the first one - but still a good book I'd say
it was like in the first book - they were enemies to lovers but now they were kinda enemies to lovers to enemies to lovers HAHAHHA sounds crazy - but it was like this
the story summed up:
i dont really want to do quotes for this book i will read the next book in this series ill give it a rounded up 3 stars - it was not better for me
Okay so I enjoyed this book better than the first book of the trilogy. There is still a lot going on, the book could’ve been longer and this way taken the time to explain some things more but overall it was less chaotic than book 1.
It was good! I read it in two hours or less not quite sure and I had been super excited to do so after reading book one a couple days ago. As much as I absolutely love a book with conflict and strong emotional characters, this book gave me mixed signals compared to book one. Don't get me wrong, the author is extremely gifted and a has an imagination that is beyond my ability to muster. I know cliff hangers are meant to keep you interested, and in the first book I was definitely yearning to read book two, but now it's just kinda killing it for me. I wish it had left off on a more stable note and everything wasn't so scattered. Again, absolutely no intention of putting this author down or being rude in anyway. It was really good and maybe I'm just too sappy for endings that aren't happily ever after lol. Regardless...I will most definitely be reading book three. The series was way too good to just not finish it out. Besides, I like the writing style of the author and find it difficult to find books with similar styles. Jinapher, if you read this, you're extremely talented and write amazing books with good plots. Please don't take this review the wrong way! I loved it truly, and respect your creations!!
Another rushed story and I don’t understand the chemistry/bond between Cristen and Zora. Barely keeping me interested but it’s more curiosity than anything that’s keeping me going now
incredible idea for a series - but lacks depth, very minimal world building, and lack of character development or explanation
fun romance scenes but it’s rushed and lacks any true relationship bond
the series is simply major plot points, one after another, with no story line development - hence why the books are so short
the series could be truly great with a better editor and actual development to the world / characters. needs at least 30 more chapters each book to fully flesh out the story.
(I'm fully committed to finishing this series, and I'm already on page 134 of the next in the trilogy.)
TLDR: This series feels rushed and it moves very quickly and it's up to the individual reader if that's a good thing or not. I'm giving four stars because I'm invested and want to know what happens, and that's got to mean something. (If you're curious about the spice: it's not spicy. There's sex, but it's hardly worth mentioning.)
while I'm enjoying this series, and I recognize that there's a wider world that's going to be explored in depth in later installments in the universe, the story feels rushed; and I mean rushed in "the writer has this entire multiverse in their head and they needed to get out, get it onto the page, as quickly as possible before it slips away."
and I can see where their world building wants to go, how there's all these little tendrils and vines and creeping things hanging around in the book, there's lore THERE just out of reach that doesn't get explained or explored, just nodded to with a kind of "I'll be back for you" vibe but I'm on book three, and some of it's not been gone back for but not nearly enough, and I'm left hungry for it in an irritating way. Not in a "I'm fully committed to continue exploring this universe" way, but in a "sdklfjsdl;kfjsdlij" way.
I like the series well enough that I'm moving on to the next duology after I wrap up some other TBRs but it's kind of...begrudging?
and I deeply understand wanting to just get as much of the story out as possible before losing it because I've done that too. but it's leaving me a little....grumpy, I guess. I never expect the first book in a series to be thorough with the back stories and world building, but I do expect those things to flesh out as a series goes on.
This series isn't doing that in any satisfying way. any fleshing out of the broader world is kind of glossed over, the MC never gets to really bite into anything because it's on to the next catastrophe so quickly that it's just a whirlwind. There is no downtime for her. I don't expect a happily ever after for any of the characters and I went in knowing this was grim dark.
It does have the promised "touch her and die" and "female rage", but...The FMC is literally _only_ her rage until book three. Any glimpse of her beyond that is dashed quickly.
I'm confusion. There's certain things that are inconsistent with this book and book one. The fmc brother is supposed to be older than her but then the mmc refers to them as twins. ?! That makes no sense. How the mcs go back and forth from liking each other to then stabbïņg each other it's giving me whiplash. The whole wedding debacle pisses me off too, like girl weren't you just competing in book one to be his bride and now you don't want him, but still marry him because he holds your dead best friend soul hostage. ?? Then we have the mmc who's playing the whole woe is me act because the girl he fell for and the person she actually is, it's not what he expected ?!My brain is genuinely in shambles right now. I also overlooked the magic system not being explain in book one and here it just wasn't adding up either ... it's like the world building system was made in the background without being explained to the readers. On top of all these things we get new characters that come out of nowhere to make a sħǐț show of the kingdoms and leaves the readers with another cliffhanger that again makes no sense. And let's talk about the șèx scene, what the füçķ was that? We waited two book for her to just say get off me then sțábş him ? I need to know how this ends but I know I'll be mad af.
I can't help but enjoy this series. It's got everything I want but I still stand by what I said in the first book, I need more. World building character development, just give me something. The premise is getting better and I enjoyed a couple of the twists but I think we needed to look more closely at the bigger picture she has had nothing and no one for so long and is now being manipulated by everyone around her, of course she is going to want to appease her brother and explode when the pressure gets a bit much. At first i didn't really like zora why is she so fucking angry all the time but I did enjoy her character in this book and think she just needs to be cut some slack. Although, I feel if the books were longer we would have more chance of this not feeling so rushed and quick. The prince is a whole new person and it makes no sense but I'm here for the ride now so I'll just have to get over it as I head into the last book in the trilogy. I read the readers warning for the next book and I certainly don't know how I feel about it now!
Wars of Fate is a great continuation of the trilogy!
There were some punctuation and grammar errors in the text, which I’ll chalk up to the fact that the book is newer and self published. It feels more like an Easter egg for being an early reader.
The story is more fleshed out by now, you get a better sense of the world in which they live. Different plot points are coming to a head which makes for some annoyingly binge-worthy happenings. There are many moments that make me laugh out loud, and many moments that make me want to scream at the pages. Hoffman writes some strong characters and does a great job with highlighting their individuality with great snippets of dialogue.
Sometimes this series leaves me wanting more details and wishing the books were longer, however the shorter nature of the stories makes them easily devourable. I am on the edge of my seat waiting to see how the trilogy will end…
My only bone to pick with this book is that it felt like too many contradicting things happened in 1 -2 day, which felt super confusing and irritating and like I was given whiplash. This is a book I like, but don't love.
I LOVE Zora.
I sometimes love Cristen and sometimes find him to be too self-deprecating and a little fragile. I don't like that he doesn't give her the whole truth up front, it gives Xaden vibes from the 2nd book and that behavior from Xaden was one of the sole reasons I rated that book so low, so it shouldn't surprise me or anyone else that I don't love that theme. Zora has time and time again proven that she is more than capable of handling her own. She is the furthest thing from fragile. So just tell her whole truths, my man.
Anyway, I am enjoying the series. It feels short, which IDK how that makes me feel but it is what it is.

Oh. My. Gosh! I cannot even begin to tell you how many times I was casually reading along and then 😱 too many jaw dropping shock moments. Deception here and deception there. Bronze! Savin! Who the heck is Artos Null?! POV of Zora and Cristen this time which was a nice treat. More insight into anchors and visions of fate. Just a *hint* of 🌶️…. 🛁 🤫 The cliffhanger was INTENSE this time! Must… keep… reading!
🤩 favourite highlights:
“F*ck fate” - Cristen
Too many Fates in one place is practically asking the cosmic universe to send a comet straight towards us - Cristen
“Thanks for the enlightening pep talk, but I think I’d rather go mope in my chambers” - Cristen
“Beneath this mask, I’m a royalist, honey. I was f*cking there for it” - the Devil
So much is going on. There is a forced marriage, deceit among the fates, a fallen kingdom, and one under attack. At the very end of it all, Zora and taken by A. Null ending with the cryptic message of him taking back what is his. I am anxious to find out what this means. Will Zora be able to save her brother.. or has he sold her out again? Will Zora make it back to her husband to her land? Will she eventually join the outliers or use them for her own gain? There are so many possibilities
This was the best book in the series so far. Does it suck that we're 60% of the way through the series and it's finally picking up? Sure. But this book was so enjoyable, I don't mind. The characters grew even more, with more humor sprinkled in, and the introduction of a greater enemy also adds depth. I feel like we're finally on the cusp of answers to the questions. What is Zora's power? Will her and Cristen really work out? What about Gretta and Xavier? Hopefully things get wrapped up nicely in the next one since it is the end of the trilogy.
I can’t even be nice about this one I was praying that the ending to the first book was a dream or something but NOOOOOOO. It was also even more confusing than the first and instead of it feeling like he couldn’t explain everything to her it felt like the author didn’t know what the story was yet so she was just avoiding the question herself. I really wanted to like this book but it was a no from me.
I don't understand all the 5 star reviews of this series. Who forgives their brother for murdering their best friend and almost sister just because he felt like it? Her brother is awful. Cristian is awful. The book makes it seem like she should have all this loyalty to these men but for what reason? We don't have enough relationships between any of them for that kind of loyalty. Also the use of Gods damn all the time just annoyed me.

I do not understand this book... I felt like the idea was good but so much information was missing. As I was reading it felt like I had skipped over important information that ended up being basically side notes when it should have been part of the plot. I feel like the author wasn't sure which direction they wanted their plot to go in so they just put it all without actually putting it in the book.
This book gets 100 times more intense than the first. The miscommunication between Cristen and Zora irks me. But they start to figure it out, but is it too late now that Artos has shown up and revealed who he is and what he can do. Will Cristen and Zora break again? I need answers. What happened to Harmony? I hope she's okay with how much she's been through.
I'm loving these books more and more. The first book grabbed my attention from the start. You meet the characters and the intrigue begins. I cheered for the hurt vengeful little girl who hardens to a strong woman. I thought book one was great but it left me with that cliff hamgsr.at the end. So I zipped through book two and again with the cliff hanger. So I'm off to book three. Enjoy these exciting book and YES the sexual heat
I have thought about this book a lot since I woke up this morning. Was the pacing still bad? Yes! was I absolutely encapsulated in the last 60% of the book and couldn’t put it down? Also yes! Would I recommend this book/series to other people? I can’t say that I would I am still confused by cristen and zora, their overall relationship is all over the place and I wish they would just figure something out
Edit: never mind just realised I missed out the WHOLE first book. Fml.
This author commences a book trying to confuse the fuck out of me I’m sure of it. She starts in the middle of a plot. An interesting one that we get to hear nothing about. There’s so much going on and everything moves so fast I’m left confused and wanting.
That’s not to say it’s not an interesting read. Because it is. Just nothing is in order and nothing is explained. I’m lost.
I am really enjoying this series. The character development between the main characters and where their story line is progressing is really intriguing. I am liking the lovers, to enemies, to building an actual bond. The world building and the visual aspects are also great for me. I like the way magic us used when it comes to glimmer magic as well. Definitely moving onto the next book.
Not gonna lie, I’m still a little lost as to the magic system and how everything works. But these books are fast paced and have my hooked. The whole back and forth, I hate you/I love you with zora and cristen is starting to get a little trying. But again, I’m still here and reading so obviously it’s hooked me and is entertaining.
This was action packed and stressful. I wanted to shake the FMC and the MMC a few times to see if the wires in their brains would magical connect. I pushed thorough and it was worth it. I immediately downloaded the next book because I have to know what happens! We've got magic, war, bada$$ FMC, tall dark and handsome MMC. All in one book what more could you ask for.
