Wes can’t get enough of Eardrum Buzz’s first CD, Misery Machine. So when he sees an ad in a music magazine calling for fans to join the “Swarm” and promote the band, Wes doesn’t hesitate to sign on. At the next pre-show party, Wes meets the band in all their insectoid glory and, convinced by a beautiful goth girl’s hot breath on his neck, eats one of their hors d’oeuvres—a strange fried insect. After that, the music crawls inside his skull and the buzzing won’t stop. Hoping for help, Wes visits the Swarm, and there he discovers just how deep the buzzing goes, and what bloody lengths it may take to make the buzzing stop.

Wes wants to support his favorite rock band. After getting accepted into their fanclub strange noises start to fill his ears. The musicians are all named after insects (Arachnid, Cicada...). Is there a connection? What about swarm logic? This was a nice little horror tale about insects, rock music and a fan caught in between. Overall some fine ideas but in the end a bit too conventional (also in the ending). Written in a fine, typical Everson way though!

The Good Kind of Buzz

This was a great short story by one of my favourite authors. Everson keeps consecutively creeping me out. Insects always make my skin crawl, and his last two short stories and Violet Eyes were disturbingly scary and great reads. Can't wait to see what he does next. This story gave me a great buzz, just wish it was longer.
