Liliana Carlisle is becoming one of my favorite sweet Omegaverse authors who writes novellas. Carlisle's prose is always easy to read, has good flow, feels clean, and is especially a go-to for me when I have trouble sleeping and just want something pleasant and easy to read. Beauty and the Alpha is one of my favorite Omegaverse fairytale novellas that I've reread a couple times now. I think fans of Nora Ash and Leann Ryans will like her.

Intrusion is actually closer to a full length novel, coming in at just above 40,000 words. Even though Liliana Carlisle writes sweeter Omegaverse, not my typical preference, I like the stories because they contain suspense and the Alpha is still a bit of an asshole.

This story features an enemies to lovers romance trope in an office setting. I was a bit worried the author wouldn't actually pull off the enemies to lovers set-up, but she did. There was one point where the heroine got herself in some deep shit, and I was left wondering how these two would get over the conflict.

LOVED that the H was a (very slight spoiler) . Suppressants for some reason is one of my favorite tropes in Omegaverse and I liked what the author did with it and how it impacted the Omega's society they lived in.

I think this was the best one by Liliana Carlisle so far. It was longer in length than her previous ones and was able to delve a little deeper into the relationship between the alpha and omega.

Madelyn presents as an omega later than normal. She is overwhelmed and angry at how omegas are treated and how their rights are different from betas. Her and her mother are threatened and harassed for her to choose an alpha to mate with. She moves in with her aunt to protect her mother and get away. Unfortunately she gets thrusts into a whole world of politics and intrigue and she has no idea she's player being manipulated by higher forces.

Dereck is an alpha who is angry and resentful. He doesn't want anything to do with omegas and never intends to take a mate. He owns and runs Optimum, the company that makes suppressants but hikes up the price to punish omegas. He has to hire an omega to be PC and show diversity and that's how he meets Madelyn.

When they meet they both hate each other but there is a pull to each other like nothing else. They can smell and be affected by each other even though they are both on suppressants pointing to the fact that they may be fated mates. Madelyn and Dereck's chemistry is off the charts and when they are together it is pure steam. But both are so angry and scarred by past traumas that they may not be able to realize what they have until it's too late.

I felt like the writing was a little choppy in places and the MC's feelings kinda ricocheted back and forth so fast it was hard to keep up sometimes. I'm glad that they were able to fight and persevere to get to their HEA but Madelyn was so angry most of the book without giving an inch that it made it hard for me to like her, hence the lower rating.

Even though it's an ARC, I will always shoot you straight. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This enemies-to-lovers story is a fast paced omegaverse romance with plenty of heat and an interesting plot. Both Madelyn and Dereck were likeable characters, the heroine was a little naive but her age and desire to be accepted made this excusable. The story flows well and I soon found myself caught up in it.

Whilst this followed the "oppressed omega" trope, it's contemporary setting meant that the discrimination had a very different feel to it. In fact it was quite disturbing to see/experience the discrimination that befell Madelyn, and parallels could be drawn to so many forms of discrimination in the real world.

There is much more to Dereck than first meets the eye, and as we get to truly know him we see why our first impression is, quite rightly, that of a bitter and angry man. His backstory unfolded rather rapidly, my preference would have been for us to have gotten to know the man, and what had shaped him, a little more slowly. I could also have gone for a little more depth to the explanation too.

The world building was solid, the setting was understandable and easy to picture. Personally I would have loved a little more backstory on why omega's were so looked down on, why their existence was very often a miserable one, with them being treated like third class citizens. This would have been icing though, rather than genuine story substance. However I did like how the author blended the omegaverse and contemporary genres together. The story also had a nice suspense element blended really well with all the key characteristic of an omegaverse world.

An enjoyable and sexy read.

"I want it all, Madelyn. I want your body, your mind, your fucking soul. And if I can't have it all, I'll wait until you're ready to give it to me."
I found a new quality author! And the fact that she writes Omegaverse goodness is the cherry on top. Though as you can see by the quote above, this is 'omegaverse-light'. If you wanted to dip your toes into the genre, this would be a good choice to sally forth without traumatizing yourself. 😂

This is very different to my previous read and I don't know how I should feel about it.

Note to self: I don't want to read the word 'slick' again in that context.

Omega Madelyn meets Alpha Derek when she spies on his company, hoping to ruin it -- and him -- for raising the price of heat suppressants so high that most Omegas vulnerable to unwanted Alpha advances can't afford them. Derek, in turn, carries a long-standing grudge against Omegas. Though each hates everything the other stands for, they soon find themselves battling feelings they never thought they'd have...

If you're looking for a consensual Omegaverse novel with a strong heroine and dashes of humor that's underpinned by some socio-political commentary, you'll probably enjoy this. I know I did. I particularly liked three aspects that were nice variations on an established genre. First, Madelyn isn't cut from the usual submissive Omega cloth; I appreciated her agency and that Derek appreciated it. In addition, this book is atypically set in our contemporary world; thus, the author can address issues like consent, sexual harassment, and discrimination in ways that other books just chalk up to biology. Indeed, Ms. Carlisle touches on many socio-economic concerns, including high drug prices, domestic terrorism, and the rapaciousness of capitalism (Derek's actions are akin to Scrooge's -- as is his ).

Finally, Ms. Carlisle actively works against one of my pet peeves in this genre. Though I know it's popular, I sometimes find the Omegaverse to be lazy writing: I mean, how much effort do you have to put into building a connection between the MC when they're ruled by their hormones? While I understand that the emotional connection does develop, I still feel as though at least 50% if not more of any relationship-building is bypassed via this trope. In addition, even given the Omega trope, we need a reason to root for the couple that goes beyond "betraying body syndrome." This is my long way of saying that when Derek tells Madelyn that “Sex would never be enough,” I felt that Ms. Carlisle was reading my mind.

I did, however, have some problems with Derek and his backstory. The book is told in dual POV so we have access to his inner thoughts, but given how many lives he was endangering, his motivations were truly inexplicable to me. In addition, I never fully understood exactly so that part was very underdeveloped. Finally, he, well, he's got Mommy Issues and it's hard to take any man whose got them seriously.

4 stars. I do recommend this. One editing quibble: The mother's name kept changing.

Surprisingly good!

This is my second book by this author and I enjoyed this one way more than the last one (Alpha Inmate). What I didn’t like about Alpha Inmate was the writing: it was written in dual POV, third person, present tense, which just didn’t work for me. This book however, was written in dual POV, first person, present tense. The fact that it’s written in first person made all the difference for me, especially because it was in dual POV and in present tense. It allowed me to immerse myself in the story much more easily.

This book had some insta love, which I normally don’t like, but I actually didn’t mind it here! I think it’s because h and H met very early on in the story and they were already getting physical by about 50 pages into the book. Also, they professed their insta-love to each other closer to the end of the book, so it made it a little more tolerable for me.

Overall, a great and smutty omegaverse read!

This is a well written enemies to lovers story with strong characters in Madelyn and Dereck. The author does a great job developing the story and moving it fluidly with her descriptive writing. She brings a bit of drama and suspense and delivers an interesting and entertaining story.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.

This was just the kind of Omegaverse storytelling that I love. Plenty of growly alpha but with an omega who’s more than he was expecting. I loved it!

This book was incredible!

I was hooked from the first page. I couldn't stop reading and finished it in one day. I loved the main character, Madelyn. She's fiery, but not in a way that is annoying. She's intelligent and sheds light on the terrible situation with Omega rights in her world. And what's not to love with Dereck? He is all delicious Alpha , but hides so much more beneath. I love that they are forced to acknowledge the connection that neither of them wanted. I was on the edge of my seat and nothing was boring or predictable. Can't wait to devour more of this author's books!

Madelyn, an Omega, sees Dereck Archer, a powerful Alpha billionaire, as a heartless monster whose life she intends to destroy for what she perceives he has done to Omegas everywhere. He is her boss and she will use that to her advantage to carry out her plans.

Both Madelyn and Dereck are strong characters. Their story is well-paced and the author’s writing style and vivid description brings the story alive. The action and suspense keep the reader invested in the story as we try to find out why Dereck hates omegas. Grab your copy and see whether Madelyn will succeed in her vengeful plan.

Though this was a short story, it packs a punch of a plot. There is action and just enough drama between Derek and Madelyn to keep you pulling for them in the end. It was a solid Omegaverse read that has plenty of chemistry, an alpha-hole you can't keep but learn to love, and a feisty omega who is finding her way. I especially enjoyed that the h wasn't a brat who constantly talked back. Love forward to more by the author.

This was such an intense book, that I had a hard time putting it down. Dereck was such a bad guy it the beginning, that I disliked him. Then what he did to Madelyn...... Poor Madelyn, her aunt really tricked her....

I really enjoyed this book and now I can't wait to see what else Lilian Carlisle will write.

But this was Good!

I'm not a huge fan if enemies to lovers.
But this was good. Good steam, good intrigue, good character angst. There seemed to be alot more to the characters, than what we were told. I wish there was more development, but that said. Its Good!

Intrusion

Plot: Madelyn is a late-presenting omega who tries to continue with her life after getting her new designation. The people around her aren't going to let that happen though, as they harass her and her mom. Her mom feels like she (Madelyn) is in danger, so she sends her to her aunt (that she's never had any contact with). Her aunt is an omega of a militant flavor, looking to redress the injustices omegas have suffered over the years. To that end, her aunt gets her a job with a company that makes omega suppressants. The company is currently run by Dereck Archer, who, when he came on board, jacked up the prices of the suppressants to make them almost cost-prohibitive. Omegas can still access the government-made suppressants, but they aren't as good and have nasty side effects. Dereck hates omegas because he feels abandoned by his mother, who is an omega. Madelyn gets the job in Dereck's company and starts spying. She also starts a relationship with Dereck of her own initiative. When he finds out what she did, he of course feels incredibly betrayed, but when Madelyn's crazy aunt kidnaps her, someone needs to save her.

Character development: 10 points off for the weird spelling of Dereck.
I really wanted to see Dereck grovel a tiny bit more with respect to the I'll be honest, I was surprised that Madelyn spied as long as she did. And I wish that her mom had been more open about the aunt and why they had no contact for all those years. That would have given Madelyn a better chance of making a good decision about her activities in the company. Back to the company - Dereck was definitely a jerk there! I get that he was a scared betrayed little boy, and so he was taking out his anger at his mother on an entire segment of the population (always a good character trait), but were there no checks/balances at the company? Nobody on the board, no COO, no investors, nobody who could stop him and say, "hey should we mark up the price so high? Is that the rep we want, Martin Skreli?" Yikes! Welcome to unfettered capitalism + Jerktastic alpha!
(don't get me wrong - I liked the story (total omegaverse freak here) - but I did not like Dereck as a person. I mean character.

Would I read more from this author/in this series: Yes

An enjoyable enjoyable omegaverse romance.

This omegaverse romance was quite enjoyable. The stakes were high throughout and there was plenty of danger elements that meant I read the book in one sitting. The heroine was deeply sympathetic. The hero was a bit of an angsty, selfish, whiny brat. His trauma was so much more important than anyone else’s. However, he was pretty hot, considering those drawbacks. The world building was not very logical. For example, the heroine lost her right to vote because she revealed as an omega, but the hero’s mother was an omega and an elected politician. I was very confused at how an omega could serve as a politician if she did not have the legal right to vote. The whole social construct in this novel had continuity issues of that type. I did quite enjoy reading this novel, and the heat level was at four chili peppers. This novel also ended on a Happy Ever After ending instead of a cliffhanger ending, so that was a big plus. This was one of the more enjoyable m/f omegaverse romances that I have read recently.

Great plot steamy too!

The story line was good enough that I stayed plastered to my plush living room chair. I read it in two days. The sex is so hot! The passion. The mission of this omega. Money well spent!

3.5super-fun-smutstars! Sometimes I need whipped cream straight from the spray can or a McFlurry, ya know? Or Boo-berry cereal (the 1970’s formula people, not the semi nutritional version being peddled about during Halloween in recent years). This was a perfectly fun romp through the Omegaverse.

DNF this book at 40% as it is one long HR nightmare justified by Omegaverse Alphahole trauma and I wasn’t invested in his redemption. The Omega was being used by the Alpha and her family, who she trusted. Wasn’t for me.

Quite a short read compared to most stories. Not a lot of action I must say, and the sexual tension was a slow build up throughout the story.

Madelyn was a 20 year old Beta and then, one day she presented and her world shifted.
Now an Omega, she faces a dangerous and unfair world where her kind are seen as lesser, weak and bottom of the food chain.
She finds herself no longer independent, with no bank account and no future to continue her studies as society around her forces her to take an Alpha all just to survive.

Madelyn hates this new life she’s been handed and seeks to change things.
She thought she found refuge and care under the wings of her aunt Tilda but sadly, things aren’t what they seem.
Soon Madelyn lands herself at a prestigious company, Optimum, responsible for the best quality and most expensive suppressants for Omegas on the market.
Her task? Take down the CEO Dereck Archer. The root of all evil.

Madelyn’s journey begins and whirlwind is just beginning. The pull, the sheer magnetism Madelyn and Derrick feel for each other was palpable and inescapable right from the moment they met.

Soon things get uncovered but Madelyn and Dereck are way too deep in to stop things between them.

Of course, they end up happily mated as fate would have it.

I'm torn

The hero starts off as a strong jerk but very alpha. What I struggle with is his acceptance of her betrayal. He did not react in alpha fashion. Typically alphas are not desperate. He became so desperate that she never really has remorse or consequence for betraying him. She should have had to work to regain his trust. So I lost a little respect for him based on his non reaction. After he saved her, he should have stepped back. Also, how could she be such a mindless idiot. She apparently has none of her own values and principles. Just say something nice to her and she'll do whatever you say (regarding the aunt). She just has no common sense or will of her own. This story is ok. I think the author missed an opportunity to have her characters go through some real internal growth.
