About the author

An award winning author, Debra's ongoing romance with wild and remote locales began at an early age and is reflected in her books. Born and raised in California, and drawn to the rugged Sierra Nevada mountain range like a fish to water, Debra was an accomplished outdoorswoman by the time she finished high school.

Debra began her writing career in 1997 and, after winning the Romance Writers of America Golden Heart award in 1998, sold her first book to Harlequin in early 1999. In what is fast becoming a trademark of her writing, Debra loves nothing better than to strand her heroes and heroines in rugged, often dangerous settings, then let nature take its course!

Alena has a secret. The secret she hid for the Mackintosh when they were but children shortly before he disappeared. Will they ever find each other again, and if they do will the realize who they are?

Alena also has a decision to make. She can either marry the man she hates or watch as her family is cast out of the clan.

The story unfolds around multiple mysteries to be solved and main characters that evolve more and more with every page. A novel set in the Highlands, the scenery and historical background captured my attention quickly. It is written in dialect, lots of lasses and lads and bluidy hell, but in a way that draws you in instead of making it difficult to read. The wonderful writing and the strong characters stay with you after the book is finished.

This was one of the best Historical Romances that I have ever read. It is so fast paced you just cannot put it down until you finish it. Scottish settings always get my attention. Just found this author and will explore many more of her writtings.

This was a fun, fast read. Something that I needed after reading technical and statistical texts all week.

The descriptive writing made this an enjoyable book, and even though it was somewhat formulaic, there were many scenes that brought a smile to my face and a laugh to my lips!
