Personally, I love thunder and lightning. I love photographing lightning...but as a kid I remember being a little scared. In fact my first memory was about age 3 and the wind was blowing and I said to my mom "I want to watch Kermit the Frog before the power goes out" (I guess the power when off a lot in my small hometown when a storm came in) and my mom said "Go watch it before the power goes out." So I did. I also heard from the TV Show "Nigh Court" that thunder was just God's bowling ball "crash" in the alley and to not be scared. This book is a good resource for kids who may be scared when the lightning comes!

This book is about two little critters who are frightened by a thunderstorm that is going on. Their paresnts find ways to comfort them such as making a fun dinner in the fireplace by roasting marshmallows and hotdogs when the power goes out, and reading stories. The next morning after the thunderstorm the children have found that the sun is out and everything is okay. I liked this book because it shows children that there is nothing to be scared of when it comes to rain or a thunderstorm. It would be a good book to use in a kindergarten classroom, and after we finish reading the book out loud we could talk about activities to do when there's a thunderstorm.

Another Little Critter book, this title was requested to be read twice, I'm guessing because it was reassuring in its description of a storm rolling in, the power going out and the rainbow after the storm. Illustrations capture the fear of children during the storm's events without adding to a child's fright.

Little Critter's sister gets her own book, as she's the main character in this book. She is afraid of the storms outside. And she turns to everyone to 'quiet her fears' including her brother. But in the end the storms go away and she gets to go outside and play in the mud!

A traditionally told Mayer book, with sister and brother dealing with a thunderstorm. A bit dated with references to "roll up the windows on the car" and listening to music "on my favorite tape" but in other ways a timeless story.

This is a little sister story. Little Critter's sister is scared of thunderstorms, but eventually she learns that thunder isn't so scary.

A favorite for sure from my own childhood. I read this to our four year old and was hoping it would hold up to the test of time, and it most definitely did.
For Connie, this was a new book to her. We’ve never read any books from this series and I honestly wasn’t sure if she would like them. But she did seem to enjoy it, related it to our experiences of storms, and was ready for bedtime by the end of it. Although the next night she did pick a different book, so 🤷🏻‍♀️

I really think I'm scared of thunderstorms because of this book. LOL. I've been terrified for a very long time. Not sure if this is a good book to read your kids if they scare easily (like me I was a scaredy cat).

A good book to read from Little Critter about a thunderstorm approaching. It will calm fears and anxiety.
