My brother was diagnosed with Celiac Disease and they recommended that the rest of the family also be tested. When my blood tests came back positive for Celiac antibodies, I started looking for more information. My Endoscopy procedure to confirm Celiac Disease isn't until next week, but after reading this book, and learning all about Celiac Disease, I'm pretty positive that I have it, and this book has made me feel confident that I will be able to deal with it.
Update:// I found out at the end of June that I do indeed have Celiac disease. This book definitely helped me be prepared and I've been successfully Gluten Free for two months now.
This was a very good book to read to introduce you to gluten and going gluten free. After having read a few other books, I believe this book would have been a good place to start. This is a complete rundown from start to finish including recipes, shopping, medical issues, and other things that are similar to celiac but not celiac .
I had a basic understanding of celiac and gluten based on my research but the first portion of this book provided a more thorough explanation. It was done in an easily understood manner without reverting to medical jargon. Some portions -like how to create a weekly menu-seemed too elementary but forgivable.
Excellent book for celiac newbies. Digestible information (ha) and thorough research. I even sent a copy to my mom to help her answer questions about my diagnosis.
This is an excellent resource on a topic I really didn't want to have to read about. I just got a first diagnosis of Celiac Disease and am waiting upon a confirmation in about a month. So in my anxiety about it all, I am learning everything I can. This book is well written and explains the science behind everything in a very approachable way. This is my first book on the topic, so I'm not completely sure if it's the best resource; but, I'll be reading more and adjusting afterwards. My only issue is that it says you shouldn't use or should replace a lot of the more porous materialed (wood, plastic, etc) kitchen items. I don't know how accurate about that, but I intend to find out since I really don't want to replace things like our big beautiful cast iron skillet. But otherwise, I would recommend this book!
Note: I did skip the part on non-Celiac gluten sensitivities since it didn't really pertain to me.
Full of helpful and practical discussion and tips. Well worth the read if you think you may have celiac, allergy, or sensitivity. Great advice covering the basics and how to work with a medical practitioner to figure out what is going on. Practical tips for reading labels, stocking your kitchen for cooking and baking gluten free, and meal planning.
I was so thankful to find this clear and balanced book to learn about my diagnosis. There is so much misinformation out there, that this guide cuts right through.
This was helpful after being recently diagnosed with Celiac Disease. Interesting to read how difficult it can be to diagnose as it presents in so many different ways.
Simple and easy to read and understand, this is a great book for anyone who is thinking of going gluten free or is diagnosed with celiac disease. Loads of tips, advice, theories and scientific information for the every-person that is good and helpful. No recipes but instead loads of useful advice. I really enjoyed reading this book.
I don't have celiac , but I have thyroid disease and need to avoid gluten as well. This book is very informative and talks about all perspectives that you may have. I'm glad I purchased this and it will be used as a reference in the future
Easy to read & full of good info, but I found myself getting slightly bored with it at the same time. I suppose there's only so much you can learn from books before you just have to jump in & do it.
