Stasia was born in Georgia, grew up in Texas, recently spent a freezing five-year stint in Minnesota, and now is happily planted in sunny California, which she will never, ever leave.
She loves writing, reading, listening to podcasts, and has recently taken up biking after a twenty-year sabbatical (and has the bumps and bruises to prove it). She lives with her own personal cheerleader, aka, her handsome husband, and their teenage son. Wow. Typing that makes her feel old. And writing about herself in the third person makes her feel a little like a nutjob, but ahem! Where were we?
Stasia’s drawn to romantic stories that don’t take the easy way out. She wants to see beneath people’s veneer and poke into their dark places, their twisted motives, and their deepest desires. Basically, she wants to create characters that make readers alternately laugh, cry ugly tears, want to toss their kindles across the room, and then declare they have a new FBB (forever book boyfriend).
Apologies for the gap in time between my reading and publishing this review. Lots of reviews have been languishing as jotted notes in my notebook. Over the next few weeks, hopefully I’ll type them up but who knows.
I finished this a few weeks ago in March. I was high key hyped for this after reading the first three in the series - Monster’s Bride, Thing and Between Brothers back in January. I decided to wait a bit to really build up my excitement and tension; I find powering through series all at once can leave them quickly forgotten. The decision to save and savour this finale makes it more painful to give this only 2.5 stars.
I felt the characterization and background of the MMC, Layden was a bit disjointed from his appearance in the stories of his brothers. I needed more time in his PoV in the past. I still enjoyed Layden’s character but lacked context to his actions in the 10 years ago timeline and more recently in his brother’s stories. If time spent in the past, during this book was multi PoV with us getting a taste of Layden’s thoughts then none of this would apply.
As for the other main character Phoenix , her PoVs were not my cup of tea and I am not quite sure why…?! I mean she is a badass, independent vaguely vampiric goddess of a woman that’s awesome. I think alot of my issues with Pheonix are not actually her fault, but lie with some major plot decisions that I felt robbed her of her agency and established beliefs.
All that being said this was still probably a 3.75-4 star read until the last 80-85ish%. I cannot even speak without spoilers here. Before I dive into the details, you should know that all 4 of the books have pregnancy featured in some way. This whole sequence has the potential to be incredibly triggering, so if you’re at all tentative about pregnancy tropes go ahead and spoil yourself.
Honestly, typing this up has reignited my fury. I would say the writing is quite good, because the author accomplished making me feel very strong emotions. I would say 2.5 stars is very generous but I will definitely check out more series from Stasia Black . This needs more than a simple pregnancy trigger warning.
This entire book and the entire end of it could have been stopped if Layden (also what a crazy ass name for the horseman for hunger) had just given phoenix (also again, what a cool and unIQUE NAME HOW CRAZY) birth control.
Also the end of the book was kind of ridiculous. Not only did the dad come back from no where but it was quite literally a crazy ending
I wanted more of the “hunger” aspect of Hunger. I wanted them to touch more on the fact that when he was sexually satiated he wasn’t hungry. I def did not want them to have three kids that grew exponentially right away and 2/3 of them be kinda not cool because they have other spirits in them.
Also WHAT FUCKING relationship is there between the two characters. They barely talk to each other. They don’t share their feelings. This felt like a stupid ass thrown together plot line and it makes me so mad because HUNGER DESERVED BETTER.
The entire plot line was wack as fuck, the relationship between the two characters was wack as fuck, the author did that thing where she won’t tell the readers any information until they need to have their monologue moment with the other main character WHICH I FUCKING HATE, the romance was like fine I guess but for the “unrequited second chance lovers” I expected more, WHERE WAS THE RELATIONSHIP GROWTH??? IT JUST DOESNT EXIST.
All in all, Hunger deserved better, I think this ending was fucking stupid for the book and the series.
I even skimmed over the last like two or three sec scenes because I just wanted to see the relationship bits and they weren’t even fucking there.
God this book had so much potential and it just… shit the bed. I. Am so angry man.
Book 4 in this series and Layden the final brother of the four horsemen finally gets his story…after being tortured by his father creator and buried Laydon disappears to another realm to slowly die in depression Laydon is saved by Phoenix, the grand daughter of Vampire Vlad… This story jumps from when they met to a current time after they were tricked into marriage to satisfy a blood debt, an evil murdering sex demon, testing their relationship and taking it to the limit… I’ve loved this series and a little sad that it’s come to an end but have loved the ride…
This second chance angel romance is Phoenix and Layden's story. They had a bumpy ride with so much emotion. It is unique read with plenty of angst, emotion and steam. It had me incredibly invested and the pages turning
Not a super strong finish. Best action and twisty turns in the storyline though. I like the series as a whole and will definitely look into some of the writers other books.
I have not read the other books related to this, but I don’t feel like that hindered my experience. I enjoyed exploring the paranormal aspects of this story and really liked Layden as a character. What I did not like was Phoenix. I felt she was unnecessarily mean to Layden and he was her complete opposite. I understand it was a reflection of her circumstances, but it was a bit rough to witness. Still an enjoyable read, but not as much as if there was more respect from Phoenix throughout the story.
This is the last book of the Monsters' Consorts saga, and I was so excited to read about Layden's story. I enjoyed how we now are introduced to vampires, and other spirits of the realm. Phoenix is a strong FMC that is trying to be independent from her grandfather (Vlad). Both have a history that they are forced to navigate in their new marriage.
You read first about the past of Layden and Phoenix when they first met 10 years ago. The whole POV is from Phoenix (first person) of when she finds Layden. Their present story is told by Layden's POV. They were not lovers in their past, and this is more of a friends to lovers trope. Betrayal of course happens, but they never were enemies.
Overall the series was enjoyable, and I would recommend to monster lovers. This is the only one that is not a monster book, since the MMC really is just a normal male without wings.
Layden is "Famine" of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Phoenix is the umpteenth-great-granddaughter of Vlad, ruler of the vampires. However, she isn't a true vampire, but something else. The book starts with their sham wedding night. Their marriage had been forced by Vlad, as a means to get Phoenix pregnant, so Vlad can have control of the child. Had I not read the previous books in the series, none of this would make sense, and... I had trouble with it anyway. The author writes with a dual first person POV, switching between Phoenix and Layden, PLUS the chapters flit back and forth from their past history to their present predicament. I was utterly confused. The romance backstory is incredibly angsty, and both MCs do a great deal of self-pity and whining. which only added to my frustration. By the end of the novel, in present time, they finally achieve HEA, but honestly, by then I just couldn't care. The entire storyline in the present is quite convoluted, and resolution seems to hinge on the introduction, or re-introduction, of more strange secondary characters from yet more other-worldly dimensions. It takes a multi-dimensional paranormal village to raise Phoenix to full being, while Layden kind of stagnates in the background. I've been a fan of this series, but the wonderful emotional depth of previous stories is sadly lacking in this book. I found it a chore to finish, and in this ARC reviewer's voluntary, independent opinion, it wasn't rewarding.
I have read all four books in the Monsters' Consorts Series by Stasia Black and loved all of them. However, my favorite book was Hunger which is Layden and Phoenix's story. Stasia has truly created a unique series with these books and captured my attention throughout their entirety. I could not put Hunger down making it easy for me to finish in one sitting. Each of the books have been told using dual point of view. With this book I loved that Layden and Phoenix shared a history and Stasia ensured that both the past and present of their story was told. It allowed me to understand this couples dynamic and made it easy for me to feel a connection with them. Layden and Phoenix shared an instantaneous attraction and genuine bond that was born the minute they met. Even the passage of a decade could not diminish that fire that burned between them. Well, I mean other than the stubbornness of one spitfire woman who is addiment about being in charge of everything and doesn't like to be told what to do. Layden was my favorite character in this book because not only was he a sexy strong alpha male, but a very respectful, gracious and understanding husband. There were moments I really liked Phoenix and there were moments that I really didn't like her. By the end of the book I loved Phoenix and had mad respect for her. I didn't care too much for Phoenix's best friend Sabra - her character just rubbed me the wrong way. Vlad (her grandfather) was the one character that I didn't like at all. He had absolutely and I mean absolutely no redeeming qualities what so ever if you ask me. Stasia made sure to incorporate everything and anything a reader could want from a sci-fi romance book. Emotions from hurt to happiness from betrayal to hope from pain to healing and a bit of mystery and a shock factor to round out its completion. Oh, and tons of action will be found between the pages of this book as well. I am very excited that Stasia plans to tell Phoenix's parents story next. This is not only a book, but a series I would highly recommend to anyone who loves this genre.
In the previous book Layden contacted Phoenix the only person he knew that could help him save his family and the world. Hunger picks up where that book left off. It is finally Layden and Phoenix's wedding day and someone isn't too happy about it. But, a promise is a promise and it must be kept to ensure the safety of Layden's family. A child between both families must be born to fulfill that promise. However, Phoenix has no plans for that to ever happen in the form of never consummating said marriage. Layden is confused and a bit hurt that Phoenix doesn't seem to share his feelings. But, that all gets put on the back burner when they discover their actions to save the world allowed spirits from other realms to enter into their world. Now something is on the loose and creating havoc that needs to be stopped before it becomes a true menace. Will these events bring Layden and Phoenix closer together to secure a happily ever after or leave them doomed to a life apart?

Another awesome book from The Monster's Consort's series!!!! What happens when Layden one of the mythical horsemen of the apocalypse and the beautiful granddaughter of one of the most feared vampires of all time Vlad Tepes force them to marry so that they will create future invincible warriors and rule the world!!! A whole lot steamy hot sex even with both fighting to give into temptation. Both Layden and Phoenix hide their attraction to each other but when someone is killed on Phoenix's college Drac sends them to investigate. What ever tore the human a part is very powerful and when the clues lead them to the Egyptian goddess Ammit the Devourer all isn't what it seems! Vlad and a enemy of the horsemen is back to cause chaos and doesn't plan on leaving empty handed! Loved both Layden and Phoenix so much!!! Each horsemen's story has been heartbreaking but Layden's is especially tragic! He was the only one to stand up to their creater father and got his beautiful angel wings torn off and hot metal pored on his nobs so they could never come back. And Phoenix's surprise reveal that she isn't Drac's granddaughter but something so powerful that even Dracula himself treaded very careful around her. Also the brothers and their wives and children made a appearance at the wedding and at the morning after breakfast Abaddon's daughter Raven went from being a adorable winged toddler to a creature with three rows of razor-sharp teeth and a tail with spikes whips out. Her torso is furry and muscled. Instead of being cute and fluffy, her wings have become leathery and veined and stretch out behind her like a huge, mutant bat. Everyone just about shit themselves except for Drac! He clapped and smiled at the little beastie, which is ironic because it was him she was after!! I'm hoping Stasia has a book for her coming in the future! I love this kid! Stasia writes fabulous monster Romance with great steamy scenes and unique characters full of angst and family! I love that about this series!! Until next time Luv's😉💋
Phoenix Dracul Tepes is at the mercy of her manipulative vampire Grandfather Vlad who is forcing her to marry a fallen angel to provide him with exceptionally strong babies he plans to claim and ultimately become his soldiers! Ten years ago she had found Layden Eques with his wings ripped off. She took care of him and they had become best friends. But he left to avoid ruining her already complicated life. Now Vlad has new plans for using them and is threatening Layden’s family if he doesn’t marry Phoenix. She can’t even face Layden during the ceremony until they kiss for the first time. But she will not let her grandfather get his way. She knows they are listening on her wedding night, so she makes it clear to Layden that they will be faking their blissful marriage. He uses that situation to tell her the truth of how much he loves her, while she thinks he is just going along with the “plan” to deceive her grandfather. And he is painfully aware that she doesn’t want this marriage and doesn’t care about him. Evidently, she never has . . .
This story is captivating, filled with emotions the reader can easily respond to. Layden loves her and it is painful to watch him continue to suffer when he had thought his own dreams were coming true. Phoenix remains oblivious of his true feelings, although she is forced to take action to thwart her grandfather. Will she be successful? Will she and Layden eventually find a way to escape Vlad’s plans and make their marriage become real? Or will she be satisfied to just walk away? The author’s handling of the past and present of their relationship will keep the reader invested in the outcome. But will it be heartbreak or a HEA?
Past and present collide epically Second Hunger: A Second Chance Angel Romance (Monsters's Consorts Book 4) by Stasia Black is the final installment of the Monsters Consorts Series. By far the most tortured brother, Layden seems to finally be in a position to find some much deserved happiness, a second chance with Phoenix. However, is this monstrous world, manipulation is the name of the game and happiness is not even a thought. The supernatural rule in this book with Phoenix's family, as well as her true origins which she has kept well hidden. Throughout the book, it's clear that evil machinations are at work. Just when Layden and Phoenix think they have a handle on what is happening, something else comes at them that just doesn't make sense! Expect to experience excitement, thrills, suspense, danger, longing, determination, anger, uncertainty, chemistry and so much more! Layden and Phoenix's story is also experienced differently too. It is balance between the past and the present as this author takes the reader through this couple's history and the events that lead them to a second chance. Overall, this series ending book concludes with one epic, culminating battle of supernatural power and will power. Turns out will power and love can fuel supernatural power and bring out abilities that were unknown. Layden and Phoenix over power and outwit those that attempted to manipulate and use them for their own agenda. Love and family triumph setting Phoenix and Layden on their true path; Love, family and together forever. I read an ARC of this book and voluntarily share my review.
Layden, the Horseman of Famine, was de-winged when he challenged the all father. Then poured molten metal over it to keep the wings from growing back. He had hidden out in the wilds away from everyone after he dug himself out of the grave he was put in. Then he meets.. Phoenix, granddaughter of Vlad, who was walking through his woods. when she came across a man who was beating himself up with a tree. She tends to him. Then after staying together while he healed, they learned a bit about each other. Ten years later Phoenix's grandfather, Vlad, called in a blood oath on one of Layden's brothers. To keep his family from harm, he promised to marry Vlad's granddaughter. They have so much baggage to get through. But first and foremost they have to avoid having a baby. That would give Vlad too much power. The morning after the wedding they head to the university where she is studying for her degree. There is a Professor there who has a thesis that is not widely accepted. When he questions her she explains that though they sent back creatures that came through a crack there could be more coming through. She is learning from the Professor to be prepared. Then she is sent to a murder scene by her grandfather. Now Layden is starting to understand the dangers they are in. Will the two of them be able to head off an apocalypse? Will they become an actual married couple? A fascinating story that will keep the reader enthralled.

Stasia Black does it again! This was another amazing story in the Monsters Consorts Series. This was a great second chance romance with Layden and Phoenix. Phoenix just wanted to be her own person and fought against everything Layden tried to do. She was a strong and resilient woman and eventually shows her softer side. Layden was amazing! He was so unsure of himself. He was still trying to find his place in the world even though he has been around for centuries. He just wanted Phoenix to be happy and was willing to be unhappy himself if that is what it took. We saw a lot of courage and strength with him.
There was a lot of mystery and intrigue with this story. I wasn't sure where it was going but how it was presented was quite interesting. For the majority of the book we dealt with chapters in Layden's perspective during the current timeline. Then we would switch to ten years ago in Phoenix's perspective. I found this interesting because you weren't sure how Phoenix was feeling about anything happening until the end of flashbacks.
We did get to revisit with Layden's brothers, the previous monsters from the series. But they didn't play as big of a role as they did in the other books. I am sad to see this series go as it was a treat to read it from start to finish. I highly recommend this series to anyone. I would suggest starting from book one, as there are some topics in this book which you might not fully understand if you haven't read the previous books.
Stacia Black finishes her Monsters’ Consorts firing on all cylinders. Hunger was such a good read. This is a second-chance romance taking place about ten years down the road for Layden and Phoenix. Sounds like the plot for a contemporary rockstar romance, right? But Layden is a powerful celestial being, while Phoenix is a vampire’s granddaughter.
Black gives us a full picture both of their relationship ten years ago and today, equal time devoted to each period and the actions that impact Layden and Phoenix’s relationship. But there are just so many twists and turns in Hunger, and I had no clue where it was going to go even as I neared the end of the book. Considering that this is a romance, which means an HEA, that’s a pretty impressive statement to be able to make.
But Hunger is so much more than that. It’s the end of the battle that’s been fought throughout the Monsters’ Consorts series between monstrous brothers and the being who is truly evil, their father. It’s a fiery, sensual read between two people who must hold themselves apart from one another (which means creativity comes into play). It even hints at future stories that Black may pursue in this world she’s crafted (and I desperately hope she does).
Hunger is one of my best reads so far this year. It’s brilliant, and a fantastic flourish to end a magnificent series.
In this installment, Laydon, or the Horseman of the Apocalypse- Famine, is forced by his brother’s blood oath to Vlad Tepish, yes the son of the Impaler, to wed Phoenix, who is not a vampire like the rest of her family. I found this series to be absolutely fascinating. A totally new twist about the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. I had so many questions from the previous books answered in this one. I really hope there are more books set in this world…. The only thing that drove me a little crazy is that each chapter for not quite half the book bounces back to ten years previous when Phoenix and Laydon first met. Then to the present. Vlad and all of Phoenix’s male ancestors are very vampiric and controlling. As well as controlling the area. Finding out what Vlad makes Phoenix do is appalling. I was very nervy for Laydon and Phoenix. There is a lot going on in the book. I adore Abbadon’s daughter, Raven, and Thing/Kharon’s daughter, Luna. They got some coool powers. I’d love to see them grow up. There are some hilarious scenes, some gory scenes, some waaaaay steamy scenes and some freaky scenes. Lol. But, all in all the book is awesome. As is the series and I wish there were more books.

Hunger by S. Black tells Hayden and Phoenix second chances story. This is not a stand alone, I recommend to read the books in order. A fantastic series and a story full of teists turns and angst is Hunder an Angel and Monsters Romance, excellent written, beautifully thought out. Blurb: A second chance with the fallen angel of her dreams...When Phoenix ran away from her controlling vampire grandfather, the last thing she expected to stumble upon was an angel with shorn off wings who’d given up all hope. As she nurses Layden back to health, she begins to dream of a life beyond the one her grandfather has pigeon-holed her into. One where she can live—and love—for herself. But her grandfather’s reach is strong, eventually tearing her and Layden apart.Fast-forward ten years later, now it’s become expedient to Grandfather Vlad to force her into an arranged marriage with the last person she wants to Layden.Phoenix has moved on. Without Layden. She doesn’t need him. She doesn’t want him. It’s better when he’s not there to confuse and cloud her senses… isn’t it? Because now with him back in her life Phoenix is rethinking everything she thought she knew.
Hunger: A Second Chance Angel Romance is Layden and Phoenix’s story. This is the fourth book in Monster’s Consorts series. I believe you can read this book on its own. It does have a HEA but the characters from the previous books all show up and to better understand this story I would recommend reading the other books too.
Phoenix is descended from Vlad (ruler of the vampires). Not a very loveable grandfather if you ask me. Phoenix is not wholly a Vampire; she is that and more. While Layden is a Horseman of the Apocalypse, an angel of famine and slow death.
Phoenix and Layden knew each other. They were best friends but now it has been 10 years since they have seen each other. Vlad forces them to get married. There is definitely chemistry between Phoenix and Layden.
I loved it when Phoenix told Layden she was a much bigger monster than he was.
There was a lot going on in this book and I found at times that there were parts that I needed to pay a little more attention to.
This has been a good series, and this was a good book. Now I am looking to see what else this author has in store for us.
Hunger is a second chance, friends to lovers Angel romance. The premise is that a vampire traps Phoenix, his spawn, and Layden, an angel, into an arranged marriage because he wants a more powerful vampire/angel spawn. Phoenix and Layden were the best of friends until a fight estranged them from one another. They hadn't seen each other for 10 years and knowing that any baby created by the two will likely be used by the evil vampire relation, Phoenix refuses to procreate. Layden has other plans. Regardless of differences and different motivations, they work together well as a team. Layden joins Phoenix, who is already on a hunt for what looks to be a paranormal serial killer.
This book was advertised as a standalone but I felt I was missing the back story because I hadn’t read the first books in the Monster’s Consorts series. It wasn’t advertised as a series on Amazon. I didn’t even know that the Monster’s Consorts series existed. A few of the couples play roles in this book. This was a little bit upsetting and part of the reason I took off one star. The book was otherwise pretty enjoyable.

I voluntarily reviewed a copy of "HUNGER" This was an intriguing, interesting, unique second chance Angel Romance full of emotional turmoil, betrayal, angst, violence, steam, arranged marriage, giving up, twists that keeps you turning the pages. Phoenix is more than a Vampire her Vampire grandfather Vlad likes to control everything in her life, she runs away wanting something more for herself that's when she finds a fallen Angel with his wings shorn off, he'd given up but she saves him & stays with him till he heals. Vlad never gives up till he finds Phoenix & rips her away from Layden, 10 years has gone by she moved on but then she's forced into an arranged marriage to Layden by her grandfather Vlad she doesn't want this he just confuses her when together. I definitely recommend to get this intense emotional rollercoaster ride, Layden & Phoenix take you on a bumpy road will they get a HEA, it's a must read you don't want to miss, you so won't be disappointed. EXCELLENT SECOND CHANCE PARANORMAL ROMANCE I LOVED IT 🖤 🖤 🖤 🖤
Hunger, written by Stasia Black, is a second chance, paranormal romance between Hayden and Phoenix.
Hayden, the MMC, is a cast out Angel that represents Famine. Phoenix, the FMC, was raised by vampires and has the power of suggestion.
Hunger is not a stand alone title, the brothers of Hayden are told prior to this story and all make appearances in this book. This title can be read without reading the other titles but I would highly recommend giving the others a chance first.
I loved the storyline between Hayden and Phoenix. While they didn’t call themselves soul mates, they certainly had that representation in this book. Phoenix fought her attraction harder than Hayden, but they both eventually gave in to their desires.
**Spoilers Ahead**
The only negative comment I have for this book is the accelerated pregnancy, birth, and growth of their children. That was just a tad bit cringy for me. I would have enjoyed seeing them grow as a couple and as parents.
Thank you to Booksprout, and the author, for the opportunity to read and review this title!

Layden Egues is our MMC. He’s a gorgeous fallen angel…😉Thousands of years old. Phoenix Dracul Tepes is our MFC. Princess to a dynasty of vampires. Shes not an actual vampire, yet a powerful being. She wants to know exactly what that is. Phoenix meets Layden one night and it changes both their lives forever. Her Grandfather Vlad put a Blood oath over Laydens family. Vlad arranges a marriage where Phoenix and Layden marries. There’s so many misunderstandings, betrayals, war, death and heartache. But they do eventually find their way to a life together. In the ends Phoenix takes on an exciting position among the vampires. There’s children and so much more…but there’s one really BIG surprise.. they find out exactly what Phoenix is! This is a mature book not meant for teens or younger for sure. It is a different and original storyline. May not be for everyone because it does deal with fallen angels. It might be a little much for some.

First, let me say that I didn't read any of the other books in this series and this book stood well on it's own. I wasn't confused at all.
This book is like a gymnast doing a vault; the deep breath, the run, picking up speed, the exciting vault, and sticking the landing. In other words, I thought it was a slow start to about the middle, picked up, and then vaulted into action.
I'm not one to usually like the flashback scenes in stories, but I found it interesting that Phoenix, the FMC told the story in the past, and Layden, the MMC, told the story in the present. Nice touch.
Why the three stars? Well, I didn't like Phoenix. She was just plain mean to Layden for most of the book. Layden was sweet, kind, and loyal. You know when your best guy friend is dating that horrible woman and can't see it? Yeah, that's this woman.
I will say that I really enjoyed the story once the action started. Worth the read.

Loved this story about Layden and Phoenix. Layden adores Phoenix since the first day she found him starving in the woods and took care of him, but Layden was afraid and unsure which lead them becoming apart. Years later, with the help of Phoenix they stopped the Apocalypse and made a bargain with Phoenix's father and got married. Layden and Phoenix agreed to a marriage in name only. Phoenix who's been living under the strict hand of her father now wants to pave her own path which Layden wholly wants to support. Phoenix is also afraid that something escaped before they closed the portal. Will their second chance bring them together? This story goes back and forth from when they met and why they split up to their marriage and beyond in each's outlook. I felt the connection between Layden and Phoenix throughout this engaging story. This does go into a conclusion of the brothers. I volunteer to read and review this copy I'd received.
Stasia Black is an author I can rely on to write the most amazing and creative stories every time! Layden and Phoenix are powerful magical characters with tragic backgrounds, but together they complement each other and fight for humanity against their enemies. It’s magical, humorous, dangerous, and scary depending on who they’re interacting with.
This is truly a story about love, family, and overcoming obstacles. It’s action packed, a slow burn, and pits vampires, angels, monsters, and spirits against each other. I loved how Phoenix faces herself and finally acknowledges her role in her existence. Layden has to be one of the most patient characters I’ve ever read: he’s supportive, protective, and respectful. They have the most beautiful chemistry that just sizzles when they’re together and it made my heart race and melt at their emotions. So dang good! I love this series!.

Layden and Phoenix and the conclusion to a great series. While it technically could be read as a standalone, I do not recommend it. Not for any of the books. They are so much better together and in order.
A second-chance paranormal romance, it does switch back and forth between now and a decade ago. Luckily, they are labeled as present and 10 years ago and makes the story line easy to follow. A fallen angel, Layden’s life since was tortured at best. Phoenix stumbles upon him one night and saves him, but they are not meant to be. Fast forward those 10 years and the two find themselves in a forced marriage that at least one doesn’t want.
The story is full of secrets, mystery, and a whole lot of angst. And while I enjoyed it, it wasn’t my favorite of the series, but it did answer at least a few of the questions raised in the previous book.

This is a standalone novel within the Monsters' Consorts series so whether you're like me and have missed one or more of the series, you'll be able to pick this up and follow the story with ease. Although, after reading it, I intend to go back and catch up on the ones I missed. A lot is going on in this storyline. For most of the chapters, we're given the present by Layden, the Main Male Character, and then when we're taken to the past ten years when Layden and Phoenix, our Main Female Character, met it was told with Phoenix's point of view. I thought this was unique and made things even more interesting. I have rather mixed feelings on how I feel about Phoenix. This is one that I will have to think about long and hard before I fully make up my mind. It's worth the read and will hold your attention.

Stasia Black really surpassed herself with this one. This could be read as a standalone but events in the previous book "Between Brothers" directly impact on the main plot line for this story so I would definitely recommend reading that one especially before reading this so it is clear exactly what is going on. The book is written in dual points of view and also alternates timelines from 10 years ago to present day so all the way through we are gradually seeing what unfolded between Phoenix and Layden 10 years ago and how that impacts on their present relationship. Lots of story in this one and a few shockers, there were some jaw dropping moments that I never could have imagined! I loved this, they do eventually get their well deserved happy ever and I think that this must be my favourite book to date by this talented author
This story was something else. This is the final book in the apocalypse horsemen series by this arthur. This is Laydon's story. In the last book Phoenix's grandfather Vlad made a deal with Abaddon the older brother for Laydon to marry Phoenix. All her life Vlad has meddled in her life and now he's forcing her to marry Laydon, but she knows Vlad she knows he's up to something. Phoenix and Laydon knew each other 10 year's ago when she saved him all those year's ago. You find out what happened all those year's ago between them as the story takes you back to how they met and to the present. This story was so different from the other three I was definitely surprised and hooked. This starts out as a slow burn, but wait that's just the teaser, because boy does this arthur kick it up a notch and more. Definitely a must read.
