As an old employee at a funeral home, Tegan's life had been full of corpses. When her parents died, she couldn't take being surrounded by death anymore. She had to get away, and to do that, she moved to a small, sleepy town in Utah. When Tegan rented a house sight-unseen, she had been told it would need a lot of work. She just didn't realize how much, nor had she been told that the previous owner had gone missing and assumed dead. On the plus side, she wouldn't be doing the renovations alone. Cole Garner, a too-attractive-for-his-own-good handyman with a dark past, would be there, working side-by-side with her. He may grate on her nerves and push her to her breaking point, but she never expected to fall for the ex-con who was wrapped in secrets so dark, she could only guess at. She was the good girl. She didn't fall for the bad boys. Until Cole. However, all wasn't as it seemed. While her new life unfolded, a past life haunted her . . . The details of the previous owner’s murder arose, and now everyone thought she was crazy. Everyone, except for Cole.
All around great little read. A mystery to solve, characters with flaws, and some great spice! Not to mention death and ghosts. Great insight into trauma healing.
- ARC READ: I WAS GIVEN A FREE COPY FOR A HONEST REVIEW -
i received a copy of this book friday night and got right into it before bed, i went into it blind and did enjoy this read. the reason i didn’t rate this book a full 4 starts is due to the fact i would have personally loved a more extended plot - however, it is around 250 pages. this makes it a quick and easy read! perfect for if you want something to get you out of a slump. cole and tegans relationship developed really fast and it was honestly a nice break compared to the other books i’ve been reading. i always love reading books with a FMC that has some chub on her becuase it hits close to home and is always something i’m worried about when it comes to relationships! so to see someone who i relate too it’s nice to provides a good connection with the main character, (regardless of the fact she is fictional of course..🫠) i would have loved to see a lot more heartfelt scenes between the two though 😞

{about}
Bed of Roses is about cole and tegan, an ex con and a girl who moved to a small city to escape the death of her two parents. these two meet due to the fact cole is fixing up tegans old haunted house HOWEVER, cole is lead to believe that tegan is male.. which of course isn’t the case. at first we see a lot of distance hostility from cole but that eases up the day he takes what he wants finally giving in…. this book is a romance book along with a thriller and has some paranormal themes.
▸ “She’s gorgeous. In this vulnerable moment, she’s a fucking wet dream. I want nothing more than to run my hands along every curve, to lick my way over every thick inch of her. I don’t know if we’ll ever have the time to do that, if our moments will ever be raw enough for that, but a guy can dream that he’s earned such rewards.”
(LEMMIE JUST SAY.. i need a cole right now.)
౨ৎ
▸ “There was a time when everything meant nothing to me. In fact, that time was before Tegan came into my life. But she had, she is. And even though I don’t believe it’s possible to actually start over, I’m going to give it a shot.
Because I care about her more than I can admit at this moment. More than the words I’m capable of understanding.”
౨ৎ
▸ “My breathing stops for a second, and I study him as his words sink in. Wait . . . “You love me?”
I’ll give him credit, he doesn’t break eye contact. I know those words, those feelings, are foreign to him, so for him to be so sure, to say it the way he had, he means it. “I do.”
The smile that spreads across my lips grows into something so wide that my cracked lips ache. “What would you do if I said I love you too?” “Die a happy man,” he grunts.”
What to Expect: - Dark Romance - Romantic Suspense - Thriller - Curvy FMC - Small Town Romance - Good Girl/Bad Boy - Dual POV
This is my first book by D.V. Fischer. I love discovering 'new to me' authors, and I will definitely be reading more from this one. I went into this book without reading the blurb because I wanted to be surprised. Mission accomplished! Bed of Roses is an emotional rollercoaster. I read it in one sitting and could not put it down. This story is unlike any I've read before; I was locked in from the start. Tegan wants to leave her past behind, so she moves to a home in a small town in Utah. When she arrives, she realizes that appearances can be deceiving and that maybe this town is not so sleepy after all. There are so many secrets and I loved every second of it. This book gave me paranormal elements, mystery, romance, spice, drama, twists, and turns. I loved Cole and Tegan together. I am always here for a curvy FMC! Cole was...whew! He brought the heat! Bed of Roses is the perfect fast-paced, steamy, dark romance. It is well-written, and the storyline is amazing. I look forward to reading more from D.V. Fischer.
NARRATION: Ricki Layne narrated this story. Although I prefer dual narration, Ricki did a good job providing voices for the female and male characters. There were a couple of times when I had to confirm I knew who was speaking, and I felt maybe a little more bass would have helped distinguish the characters. Otherwise, this was a solid performance. Ricki portrayed the characters well and brought them to life.
Thanks to D.V. Fischer for providing me with an e-ARC. Opinions expressed are my own.
I was on the ARC Team and WOW! This book is INCREDIBLE! I loved the storyline and the banter between the MCs. The spice is chef’s kiss 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️! Love that there’s a curved FMC. She’s starting over in a small town where her best friend lives but the history and mysteries of this town have a few twists she was not ready for. The MMC with a dark past and a love for curvy women might not be who the town thinks he is.. or is he? 👀 The ending had me SHOCKED!
This was such an interesting read. It really sucked me in with the myster aspect. And the spicy was a nice bonus. Cole was totally swoon worth and supper protective of Tegan almost immediately after they met. The plot twist made my jaw drop because that was not how I expected the mystery to play out.
I think the book cover fits the book amazingly well, the roses, rose petals and barbed wire, when you read the book you’ll know! I also think that the roses & rose petals could also represent Tegan and the barbed wire Cole really well too.
The main female character Tegan’s parents have recently died and her rather callous boss at the funeral home she works at made her plan and run their funeral just like she would any other. Filled with that trauma and her grief Tegan attends her last therapy session with Dr Lynn informing him she is leaving her job and leaving Chicago to start afresh in Utah. Dr Lynn strongly advises against this saying that the fear of death Tegan has and her grief are things that need facing and that she should face them in Chicago instead of running off. Tegan is adamant she is leaving, in fact she has sold almost all she owns to fund the journey and initial costs of relocating to a small house that’s in desperate need of renovation in Fairview. Tegan chose the property at Fairview because the rent was reduced on account of her doing the renovation work and the fact it’s close by to Mount Pleasant, and her new job in her best friend dating back to university days, Tori Townsend’s new shop. Tori heartily encouraged her friend to leave the sadness behind in Chicago and start anew in Fairview & Mount Pleasant. Tori is a realtor but also owns a small metaphysical store, if like me you were a little unsure exactly what that is, it’s a store that sells spiritual, mystical and holistic items.
When Tegan arrives at the small property in Fairview, she can see just from the outside it needs work, but she can also see the beauty in its surroundings and its potential. Having said that I think she is still a little shocked at the state of the inside of the property, she wasn’t expecting as many cobwebs and as much dust. It is abundantly clear to see no one has lived there for quite some time. Her landlord Derek Wordon, shows her around and after a bit of gentle encouragement from Tegan, he reveals that the property has not been inhabited since his brother Neil went missing a year ago. Derek also slips into the conversation that there will also be a handyman by the name of Cole that will be working on the property with her that he hadn’t mentioned before. Derek informs her that Cole has already sorted out the plumbing and electrics.
What Derek isn’t telling her is that Cole has recently gotten out of prison where he was sent at the age of seventeen for committing killing someone. No one else in the area want anything to do with Cole, but Derek has given him a job at his property and rents him a trailer to live in. It’s insinuated that Derek has only done these two things to infuriate his step brother Sherriff George Smith who hates Cole and is connected to why Cole went to prison.
At first there is tension between Cole and Tegan as its clear he is not keen on her being at the property, he would prefer to work alone. Tegan on the other hand doesn’t know what to make of Cole, she doesn’t know why he went to prison and just takes Dereks word that though Cole may be a bit rough around the edges he will do her no harm. The awkwardness around each other soon turns into a simmering passion for each other. What starts out as using each other to scratch the itch of not having had sex in a while soon turns into something so much more.
It soon becomes apparent that Tegan and Cole may both be haunted by their pasts but that Tegan is being haunted in the property they are renovating. Whilst Tegan is at the property, she first notices rose petals in random places, then when she is in the shower she sees the outline shadow of a large man. When she races around to see if Cole or anyone else is in the property with her, she glances in the mirror and sees the man standing in the rose bushes in the garden of the property near the pasture.
Characters I loved were of course Tegan and Cole, two haunted, broken people who come together awkwardly, with little to no expectations of each other, not even calling what they have a relationship but it blossoms into romance and more.I also liked the sassy, think before she speaks Tori and couldn’t becoming a little fond of Derek Wordon, who gave Cole a chance when no one else in the area would, not only employing him, but renting him somewhere to live too.
Scenes I loved and that had me feeling various feelings and emotions, were surprisingly the rather sinister ones where Tegan sees the shadowy figure and then receives the first random rose petals and then finally a bed of roses! The soft kind of mushy scenes I loved were, the hospital scene where Tori has sent for Cole is both amusing, heartfelt and a little bit of an eyes brimming one all rolled into one. The poignancy, and peacefulness of the scene when Tegan and Cole visit his sisters grave and Tegan educates Cole that people take flowers when they visit their loved one graves. I loved the way Tegan spoke to Cole’s sister and then to Neil Wordon whose body was finally recovered and buried in the cemetery.
I smirked at and saw the humour and irony in the scene where Derek Wordon parts with the reward money he had set up for anyone that could catch his brother Neil’s killer. He knows they deserve the money and have earnt it fair and square but it still stings Derek that he has to part with it!! I felt mixed emotions of amusement and suspense (though I’d guessed what was about to happen) reading the hospital scene where Tori has sent for Cole. It then had my eyes brimming a little, followed along with a sense of relief.
I should probably warn that there are quite a few steamy, raunchy, descriptively explicit scenes and a few intimacy act details that were kind of aggressive and rough. I would normally avoid books with them in like the plague but having read this author’s other books too and learning that such scenes are all part of a wider plot and not just there for the sake of it I decided to read this book and I’m glad I did.
My immediate thoughts upon finishing the book were Wow, what a journey this one takes you on. I have to admit I immediately loved bad boy Cole, especially when he warmed up to Tegan. Bed Of Roses was funny, sad, poignant, and it sure was....er...explicitly steamy!
Summing up Tegan and Cole both been through sad, traumatic things, no wonder they are both haunted by their pasts. When Tegan and Cole initially meet it’s because they are fixing up an old house but they end up fixing each other as well as catching a murderer and preventing that murderer from killing again.
I really loved Bed Of Roses and I can’t wait to read Field Of Lilies and discover what is in store for Tori and Killian. I’m hoping Tegan and Cole may feature in it too.
Wow! What a wild ride! I really enjoyed this book. I love reading romance and dark romance. In this instance, it was a good change of pace to read something with thriller/ spooky vibes as well. I was creeped out at a few stages in the book. So well done with that. I doubted everyone’s intensions and suspected them all! It was great that the book kept me guessing. I felt bad for both of our MCs and I just want them to be happy! The spice was about a 3 🌶️ Looking forward to the next book. Bring it on!
Spice levels: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Trauma Rating: ☠️☠️
Bed of Roses is a fast paced, dark romance story complete with ghosts, murder, mystery, twists and turns.
We follow Tegan, as she moves from the big city to a small town to escape her life that is surrounded by death, we meet Cole (we love Cole), we live in a creepy old house, haunted and all. Through creepy, haunted happenings, a murder mystery evolves, leading our FMC and MMC down a path of who-done-it.
The story is tense, the spice is immediate, and it’s a great novel to read if you want something quick, dark and spicy.
Arc: Bed of roses from DV Fisher is a dark romance.
I never thought I'd fall for a murderer.
The author keeps you gripped by the suspense from beginning to end. You get to know Tegan and Cole better by experiencing everything through their eyes. The story is well-structured, and the chapters flow smoothly.
What makes this story enjoyable is the balance between suspense, humor, and sadness. The plot twist was very well-crafted. I highly recommend this to all dark romance enthusiasts. My list of favorites is getting even longer.
When it comes to stars I give it a 5. I love how the story from beginning to end flowed. The story, the characters, the building of the town and its people around the situations that took place in the town. I loved it. Will definitely be recommending to anyone that wants to read a small town romance.
When it comes to spice, I am going to rate it a 4. The scenes with spice were detailed and had to fanning yourself a bit, but the book wasn't full on erotica to be 5 peppers.
I feel it would be a friends to lovers type trope, and the girl falls for the bad boy ex-con that is helping her fix up her new place in the new town she moved to. The build between the two and the fact that the story is dual POV made it that much more enjoyable. Hearing and seeing things from both Cole and Tegan's perspective was refreshing.
I am definitely looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
This was a steamy quick read with a hint of thriller and paranormal sprinkled into it. It’s definitely quick and jumps straight into the FMC & MMCs relationship. It was entertaining but I do wish it would’ve been longer, I think it had so much potential to be a dark thriller romance and it left me wanting so much more of that!
Over all Cole and Tegan were sweet I didn’t really feel their chemistry all that much until the end which is why I wish it would’ve been longer than 230 pages 🥹 I loved how relentless Tegan was and even when she was running from the darkness of her past. I loved how she didn’t let what anyone thought get in the way of what she needed and wanted.
If you’re looking for something quick and steamy with just enough plot to keep you hooked definitely give this one a go!
Thank you to author DV Fischer for the gifted arc in exchange for my honest review!
❤️ I have feelings for this man. This murderer. This broken soul. This unseen soul. _____________________ Wow! Firstly, I absolutely adored Cole and Tegan. Their relationship developed very quickly, he’s the perfect grumpy to her sunshine. It’s also super spicy, I’d never tell that man no. I also love a curvy FMC who snags the MMC with abs who can throw her around. Not only that but there are some awesome twists and turns throughout the book while Tegan is adjusting to her new home. I did enjoy coming up with my own theories along the way. I’m looking forward to reading more D.V Fischer books, that’s for sure. _____________________ 🔥I groan as tears line her eyes. Sweet tears. Tears that I caused. It fucking thrills me. _____________________ ❤️ I love her, and I want her to love every part of me, even the ghosts that haunt me from my past. _____________________ _____________________
This story is a hot bed of smutty goodness, murder mystery, unforeseen plot twists, and good ol’ grumpy/sunshine.
Bed of Roses follows Tegan as she escapes the big city for small town living. Death has been ever present in her life, and as she tries to escape it, it was a knack for finding her.
As Tegan settles in she crosses paths with Cole. A brooding handyman, shrouded in mystery, with a troubled past. As tensions arise, their chemistry is undeniable. Trying to navigate through a complex relationship is complicated enough, throw in a chilling murder mystery and the stakes seem even higher.
This story was intriguing. The mysteries surrounding the house and its previous owner, will have you itching for more. Their chemistry makes for good spice and if you’re looking for something a little more thriller….Bed of Roses will be your jam.
I loved this book! I am super excited for book 2, Tori’s book. I want her story, but I also want more of Cole and Teagan. This was an ARC, and as soon as I started reading it, I couldn’t put it down. I read it all in one go. It’s not super long, so that wasn’t a problem, but I also didn’t want to do anything else other than read this book. It had my attention from the start! Cole. Damn, that dude made me swoon. Love him! Teagan was great, too. She had so much sadness, but still able to find joy. I really liked that aspect. I feel like there should be more to her story though. I hope we will get some of that in Tori’s book. Some of the book might be a little obvious, but it was such a fun read for me. It was dark, mysterious, funny, heartbreaking, thrilling, spooky, and had things that go bump in the night (and I’m not just talking spice here, although that was good too). So many new authors that I’m loving. My TBR pile is always growing, and DV Fischer is absolutely on that list!
Loved it!!! This book has everything from mystery, to romance, to spicy scenes that make you blush. The FMC is beautiful relatable as a curvy girl who just wants a fresh start from her life of dealing with death. Cole 🥵 what more needs to be said!!! Holy smokes, his sassiness, his attitude, just him. Loved their little snappy conversations from the beginning. Loved their relationship, even though it took him some time to get used to those feelings she made him have!! I could not put it down, and THE PLOT TWIST!! I was not expecting that 😳😳! I cried, I laughed, I gasped and overall I loved every minute of it!!! Absolutely recommend!!
i received this book as an arc & it was my first ever read by the author. i quickly devoured this book! i loved that it had all of my favorite elements of smut, murder mystery, grumpy sunshine romance, and a good didn't-see-it-coming plot twist, incorporated! i will definitely be reading more dv fischer books in the future. my only gripe would be that i wish there was more to the story in terms of length. this book is only about 250 pages; however, it is going to be part of a series which i think is a great idea for this specific storyline! i enjoyed dv fischer's writing style, sentence structures, & how much livelihood she gave these characters. definitely recommend!
Oh my... this book turned into something INCREDIBLE. I struggled to get into Bed of Roses to begin with, but wow, did it pick up the pace fast, and I couldn't stop.
This book had me giddy, jaw dropped, ripped my heart out, and then slowly glued it back together.
The authors writing is just phenomenal, and I'm so excited to showcase a physical copy on my bookshelf and read more from DV Fischer!
The storyline was just incredible and with the added spice... WOW.
A MUST READ for Dark Romance lovers and readers alike!
I loved this book! It was written so well and was a quick read! It had the perfect amount of smut, mystery, and plot. It made me extremely happy that Tegan and Cole found each other because they were just what they each needed. My heart was breaking for Cole, and his past Tegan made him realize that he's not a bad guy like he thinks. The plot twist at the end had me gaping with how unexpected it was!
I am a mom of 4 so this took me longer to read but if I could have I would have not set it down because she grabbed you from the beginning and never left you bored this is a perfect mix of thriller romance and the right amount of spice to keep you running to the next spicey part but staying focused on what was happening threw the story I will admit at 1st I thought she was being stalked but once it turned I was running with her threw this book I needed to finish it was a race against the clock and to see everything come full circle omg!!!!!! I didn't expect any of it I thought I new what was going on I INFACT DID NOT GO READ IT NOW!!!!
ARC Reciew: This was a great read! It captivates you right from the beginning! This was different than what I’ve been reading lately so I loved being immersed in something new! This book had a little of everything. Mystery and romance all in one. I really enjoyed the characters and the connection they had. I enjoyed peeling back the layers of Tegan and her love interest. Coles storyline was a really nice touch and the smut was nice and steamy! The writing in this was great and DV Fischer is good at what she does! I can’t wait for book 2!
Oh my gosh! DV Fisher has done it again! I absolutely loved this book! Bit of spice time and a bit of a murder mystery is a beautiful combo. My favorite character had to be Tegan! She is an absolute amazing character! Absolutely need to give this book a read! It’s so worth it!
This was such a ride! I didn’t expect the paranormal To be so good. It wasn’t out of place. The story was full of healing and acceptance. And the spice was spicy! This was a good quick read and I’ll be looking forward to the second book. Also we all need a BFF like Tori.
Wow. This book... I loved the connection between Tegan and Cole I love how they express their love everywhere in their home. It's crazy about the roses and the landlords and the brother who didn't go missing all of a sudden.. also I felt bad for Tegan how she lost her parents but had Tori as a best friend so she wasn't all alone. I recommend this book to anyone. But check tiggers especially if u don't like ghosts.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I’ve waited to write this review because I’ve been at a loss for words. I felt unsure beginning this because it has a fairly slow start. However, that all changes before you know it, and the story is incredible. One minute you’ll think it’s a typical romance, the next you’re trying to figure out what happens next but you can’t seem to guess any of it correctly. The last 2/3 of the book had me on the edge of my seat and I couldn’t put this book down. Highly highly highly recommend!!
I really enjoyed this book! It features so many of my favourite tropes, and the pacing kept me hooked from start to finish. The spice was well balanced, and the plot had me struggling to put it down.
I did struggle a little with Cole and Tegan’s romance, mainly because insta-love isn’t a trope I usually enjoy. Because of that, their connection didn’t fully click for me.
I also would have loved a bit more world-building and character development. It felt close to being really immersive, but I wanted just a touch more depth.
