Bennett Alfred Cerf (May 25, 1898 – August 27, 1971) was an American writer, owner of The Modern Library publishing house, and co-founder of the American publishing firm Random House.
Cerf was also known for his compilations of jokes and stories, and for his regular appearances on the panel game show What's My Line?
Outdated jokes, the book was copyrighted in 1965, so most of the jokes were outdated. Many of the jokes/stories were sexist and racial. There were a few kernels worth keeping, but I would not waste my time reading it again and would not recommend it to a friend.
Some humor is funny, no matter how old it is. Other humor gets very dated because of the context and references, and the meaning is lost, as well as the humor. This book was first published in 1965.
That happened with the stories in this book. The context has changed so much with some of them, there really wasn't any sensible meaning, let alone humor. I was just left puzzled.
