I'd like to thank the author for giving me a chance to read and review this book. I was a little skeptical at first when i started reading because i don't usually read books that involve dark secrets, murder but as i started to progress further in the book i started lovin it. My favourite character was Rae for being strong, independent invidual who altough she doesn't want anything to with her old birth home and city, she really misses the home where she was raised, the people of Belle Rose and wants the stability of a home which she doesn't have because of her band being non-stop on the road. i really liked the ending how eventually she got chance at being in love and having a home where she is happy in arms of the Simon.

I won this book through a goodreads giveaway in exchange for an honest review.

Rae, a blues/zydeco musician returns to her small hometown after her dad passes away. Years before she'd left town after spending her entire childhood being harrassed and looked down upon because her grandpa had skipped town with another man's wife, and several thousand dollars 50 years earlier. Her main tormentor happens to be the granddaughter of the woman her grandpa ran away with, and the ex-wife of her new love interest. Rae sets out to clear her grandpa's name, restore dignity to her family, and open a blues bar.

This is one of those stories that while good, and attention grabbing (at first) starts to drag on and become repetitive after awhile. I didn't necessarily need to read multiple scenes of Rae and Toya arguing over men and money. The argument was always the same and just took some of the shine off the actual story. All the repetitiveness started to get boring after awhile.

Ultimately though the story wraps up with an interesting conclusion that's not predictable, and makes even the dumb girl fights worth struggling through.

first of all i would like to thank the author of this book for giving me the chance to read this book.....it was fantastic...well described locations (i felt like i was there) and characters (favourite character of mine is rae)...this book was about dark secrets, old enemies, a family promise which the main character of the book, rae, was trying to keep, a fifty year old murder and a love story which held out all the lies. This book is full of emotions and suspense.Be careful the ending will leave you breathless.... i recommend it to you all.....

This book in its nakedness gives us reflections on being, on the transience of life, in the constant search for harmony between being and the cosmos, between man and history. The style of the author has proved winning, fresh, frank and blunt. In a handful of pages we discover that we feel comfortable in the worlds she created, however absurd they may be. The narration is nonchalant and witty with the author managed to make them credible and attractive.
