In the aftermath of Invincible: The Death of Everyone, Dinosaurus has left his mark on the world. Can heroes from across the universe - Invincible, the Guardians of the Globe, Tech Jacket, the Astounding Wolf-Man, and more - contain the damage? Or are the end times of the Invincible Universe ahead? The greatest heroes in the Invincible Universe take on their greatest threats: Red Eye, the Lizard League, and...marriage?!

A fun tie in to Invincible's universe. All of the stories are great, but I really liked the Le Bruiser solo issue and the wedding issue of Kid Thor and Knockout. They were both a lot of fun. El Chupacabra's subplot of dealing with his alcoholism while his sponsor is the supervillain Titan was quite enthralling as well. Todd Nuack has produced some of his finest work to date on this series.
Another great volume of Invincible Universe. I feel like Hester is definitely more comfortable with the characters and their relationships to one another.
This volume lets the team come into its own, as Invincible does show up, he is reserved for "big guns" status. I also like the way the team reacts to different villains. Hester gives them a chance to really show off their personality based on how they attack or defend.
There are two major stand outs for me. The solo story of Le Bruiser, which was may favorite, and the solo story of Best Tiger. I think these are the two best characters of the team so it was great to see them get the spotlight.
Definable check this out if you read the last one, its even better!
SCORE: 60 | C+ / B- TRIGGERS: graphic violence REVIEW: I read this before going to bed, woke up the next morning and forgot almost everything that happened...There are reptiles, superheroes and that's all I remember. Probably the most skippable of the lot so far. However, I do remember enjoying it at the time.
Invincible Universe Vol. 2 Above the Law collects issues 7-12 written by Phil Hester with art by Todd Nauck.
Further adventures of the Guardians of the Globe and their battles with the Lizard League.
This is probably the best arc yet featuring The Guardians of the Globe. The author finally found his stride with the characters and it is balanced very well. My favorite issue was with Le Brussier. The art has been strong through these tie-ins as well. This wraps up the tie-ins and crossovers and now I just have the main Invincible title to finish.
This was another fun spin off to read and was nice to get to see more of the lives of the supporting characters in invincible. I do wish they had more of these!
As I had hoped, this book contained both fun and a big bad that was built up from the beginning of this volume to the end of it. Really enjoyed these issues! There was even a nice Watchmen reference in one of the lines spoken by a J. Jonah Jameson parody character!
This is pretty similar to the first volume of the series, following the background heroes who I was only passingly familiar with from reading Invincible. It never really follows up on the "above the law" premise that was set up at the end of Vol. 1 and gives it its title, but there's plenty of fun superhero action.
I just want to start this by saying Todd Nauck's artwork always makes me smile. Its fun! The story he gets to tell is fun as well. The Guardians Of The Globe are thrown into some crazy adventures including a wedding, lizard army, alcoholism, prison riots, aliens, and more. I thought Phil Hester did a great job with these characters and made everything fit. The Invincible universe is packed full of wild ideas and this showcased them. Overall, an incredibly entertaining read.
its alright, basically just a bunch of stories about the guardians of the globe, and their villains. cant say im all that interested, there was basically little to no invincible here. best tigers issue was fire tho, i cant lie. i like the le brusier issue aswell; cant say i care all that much for the lizard league, or any of the villains presented here. but, its good world building. invincible is probably top 10 universes nobody should want to live in, like damn something is always going on
That was an improvement, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I'm looking forward to getting back to the main Invincible line. This did have an over-arching story which helped a lot.
Read this completely by accident and it was FINE but I didn’t have any context. Also........... best tiger’s english.......... somebody doesn’t know that Asian people can speak English......
Fundamentally unnecessary spin-off with too much time devoted to a knock-off of, of all the B-listers, the ruddy Serpent Society. However, the issue in which a superpowered French bulldog singlehandedly takes down a crime syndicate pretty much justifies the whole series, not to mention my suspicion of French bulldogs.
Ok, marginally better than the first volume, but still just a series of tidily wrapped-up side adventures, killing time before I get back to the main series. Best issue is the first, Le Brusier's tale, in which everyone's favorite Frenchie saves the day.
