There was so much interesting information about Renoir's life and his paintings in this book. I enjoyed learning about his mixing the impressionist style with the classical renaissance style of painting once he visited Italy. Also, he suffered severely from arthritis in his later life but kept painting with brushes strapped to his hands. I was happy to know that he was recognized both professionally and financially for his work during his lifetime. This is a great series for art aficionados who have not studied art.
I would say this is an excellent resume of a truly great artist, who wasn't immune to self-criticism and indeed a change of direction. To me he comes across as a really nice guy and a family man, so dedicated to his art he painted to the end with brushes strapped to his arthritic hands.
Nice reproductions of major works. Love the technique and the variety.
Another book I borrowed for use for school next year for the girls. This book shows the work of Renoir and gives some good information on the artist as well.
